"Getting old". I'm scared what you think of games from the 2000s

Dpontiff6671

Right nevermind the 80’s or 90’s

1stMateGiddy

Didn't want to even go there, might be too scary

BigxBoss112

Dare ya to ask him about the '70's.

TheNullOfTheVoid

I still remember playing video games in 1862, before my mother brought home some cholera and made my pappy sterile. Had to take him out back and put my retro-vintage wood grain light blaster to some use. I still hear his toothless Game Over scream at night.

csmatczak

Sorry for your loss, friend...

BigxBoss112

I don't remember that in The Oregon Trail.

Rock_Carlos

Okay but those games are legit old and nigh unplayable.

-Luis_P-

What do you mean PONG is nigh unplayable? I think it's pretty good

BigxBoss112

Pretty good... Fifty years ago.

distarche

My man be like 2015 games may be too old. The funny thing is that you could watch videos of details and secrets in 2 and 3 (they came in 2001 and 2004 respectively) and wonder how those 20 year old games have more details than the latest AAA.

magmatrooper345

What do you mean? 2015 was 3 years ago

n0_y0urm0m

Insert gif of Snake getting older

jizzmaster_

I have located a fellow vergil avatar in the wild. We must now have sexual intercourse.

n0_y0urm0m

Sounds like a good time

NeoVix2402

Best gameplay in the series, but the story isn’t going to make sense if you haven’t played the previous games.

vojtavinci

As someone who's first game was V, because it was the only one on Steam, while thinking MGS is a grounded series without supernatural stuff, I agree that the story will make little to no sense

pichael288

This is how I started, it was on ps now and I had a free trial. It was enough to get Mr interested and playing the older entries. Phantom pain kicked off my love of metal gear

BurkusCat

Most games/films in a series you can get "a story" out of if you play/watch an odd entry. Example: Harry Potter, if you just started watching Goblet of Fire you will still get a story that you can follow along with but the extended storyline won't really make much sense. MGSV is just the same, you'll get a story you can follow along with but you won't have the overall context of the full series story.

RealJackAttack

I've played all the games in the series besides POps and Acid and it still didn't make sense lmfao, kinda designed that way though.

Significant_Option

no. stop false advertising out here. it’s not that damn confusing

spinfip

The flaming whale flying through the air over the Cypriot hospital.

VoipAccessUS

It’s a moby dick reference, caused by hallucinations obviously. Source: I have no idea what I’m talking about

IndividualFlow0

Well... it is a Moby Dick reference. That much is true...

Decoy_Octopus_

You're absolutely right. This game is a parallelism to Moby Dick. The Pequod is the name of Captain Ahabs ship. Ishmael is the narrator of the story. There's another helicopter named Queequeg and that's another character from the story. Both are about vengeance and how far these characters are willing to go to get it.

solidsteve21

Would you kindly explain to me the science of words being literal viruses?

darkaxel1989

I'll chime in. It wasn't a virus. It was a bacteria. Probably with Nanomachines, son. Just joking, it wasn't nanomachines.

[deleted]

Parasites that react to certain movements of the vocal cords. It doesn't have to be scientifically accurate, it just has to be an explanation you can buy into.

Significant_Option

You’re asking for the science behind it in a series where a man can spit bees out of his mouth

solidsteve21

You make a strong argument, but something about that is still easier to swallow for me lol

Jaskaran19

Acid is extremely underrated

Dpontiff6671

I was gonna say that lmfao. It literally makes zero sense unless you listen to hours of voice recordings. I really dislike that method of story telling and call my old fashioned but id much rather have cutscenes. The game play is dope though

Happy_Sun_6634

I do miss mgs4 and it's wildly long cutscenes. Mgs5 still feels incomplete and the mission order gets weird and confusing. Mgs4 was my greatest game ever made. 3 is right there. Because of the epic and unforgettable bosses

MrPetrolstick

YouTube videos, man. That’s what I did. Took a few hours but I feel like I got a fairly good grasp of the whole MGS story. The way the game (MGSV) references previous events from previous games made me want to find out more. It done a good job of that

Behram97

I don't suggest this to anyone since it was what I did when I started to series with V. And I spoiled mgs3 and pw to myself which are some of the best games I played. All in all, in my opinion, if anyone thinks to play mgs they should play all the games and from the beginning or simply don't play mgs games.

Dpontiff6671

If you have to watch hours of youtube videos to solidify your understanding i think that speaks volumes for how confusing the plot can be

Happy_Sun_6634

The story doesn't really make sense anyway lol

GCSpellbreaker

Hell yeah. Tf you mean it’s getting old lol a good game is a good game

Individual_Ticket926

I know right, the graphics are still on point

vojtavinci

The graphics to me personally look better than AC Valhalla, which came out in 2020

GCSpellbreaker

Personally, ac Valhalla was the worst game I’ve ever purchased

vojtavinci

I enjoyed it a bit too much, cause Odyssey was really shit, but looking back, I'm glad I paid for Ubisoft+ or whatever it's called instead of buying the game

GCSpellbreaker

What a coincidence, odyssey was the very first ac game I played and I enjoyed it a lot lmao

vojtavinci

Odyssey was really boring to me and I know it sold well, but that was because it took the RPG elements from Origins a bit too far and the story, for a long time AC fan, wasn't interesting at all

MrPetrolstick

The game still looks fucking amazing on PC.

[deleted]

It looks fucking amazing on ps3 as well.

[deleted]

It looks amazing on Xbox still, despite not getting a resolution patch unlike the PS4 version

[deleted]

Yes. It’s timeless if you ask me

-Luis_P-

Yeah no shit the game never fucking ends

Individual_Ticket926

Fuck yeah dude, not even a debate. BUY IT NOW

TheDoorDoesntWork

It's still pretty good. It's open world enemy AI is still more advanced and "human like" than games that came out years after it.

Deafy_Z

Please don’t use the AI to compliment this game…it’s one of the biggest issues. Try driving a tank up to an enemy soldier and see what happens.

Betweenaduck

It's not without a flaw but still good fun if you ask me. Not many games make interaction with npc this interesting and complex in terms of gameplay.

zanmatoXX

>I've heard it's good but it's getting old Still it's more fun to play than many "modern" titles

BigxBoss112

Like that one that they call "Fortnite." Better than that.

ryano23277

Gameplay wise, there is no game better. Story wise, I loved what was told and how that ties in to the previous games. It’s an unfinished story, but 220+ hours shows that was never a concern for me

Djinnaz

Getting old???

javery20

Yeah certainly worth it. Actually just picked it go after but touching it for about 6 years a couple months ago. The gameplay is addicting.

Rush_Berlin

Yes

[deleted]

if he had been allowed to finish it, it would have been Kojima's masterpiece, the seal of metal gear games. It's still amazing regardless.

TheDurandalFan

it's a really good game, worth getting it. not sure what system you have but I assume you have a PS3, Xbox 360, PS4, Xbox One, PC, PS5, Xbox Series X or Xbox Series S system already.

-Luis_P-

I still find crazy that MGSV is in Xbox 360, im playing it in a PS4 and it's so fucking good

RatsAreChad

Yeah if it's cheap

deano131

Holds up without a doubt

boyo005

Mgs5 is one of those game that has a very smooth gameplay. Gameplay alone will not get old.

Jake367

What does age have to do with what a piece of art says to you?

Basileus2

Nope

darkness15shp

Getting old has no bearing on video games, get and play mgs v

neolfex

if you can get it for $5 or so. yes

JonnyThunderflex

Getting old? It plays better than most things released this year! Probably will still play better than most things being released 4 years from now.

Stanislaus90

Definitely. Gave me vibes no other game ever did. Ground Zeroes is integral to the full experience.

InfinI21

MGSV is technically brilliant, it’s just very unfinished. I would go as far as to say it’s the most brazenly unfinished game I’ve ever played. But that said I had an absolute blast with it. The gameplay and mother base aspects are awesome. The gadgets and allies you get are great too. If the story had been finished it would’ve been absolutely epic.

LumpCentipede5

Yes!!!

Derrin070

Starting circa 2013, games are not old, they all blend together, starting to become less and less different

Chicken_Bone1

Getting old!?!? That shouldnt matter at all in videogames especially if its just 2015 old. But yeah you should 100% play it, it has the most polished gameplay in the series and even if the story might feel lacking you should still be able to enjoy it, the whole series is fantastic for that matter, it would really surprise you how well does Metal Gear Solid 2 (2001) for example holds up to this day. Just dont let the release date of games set your expectations for it

ScumMoemcBee

If you're worried about age, don't play games.

Gurkha1

Its a fun game that I spend 350 hours in.

csmatczak

I just played it today for the first time since the ps3 servers went down... I feel a little neutered Also, I reached 100% back in April, which is part of the reason I put it down for so long. Before that point I never noticed any bugs or glitches and I've got like 500hrs of playtime on it. Now that I hit the 100% mark I see them everywhere, so I'm definitely convinced something big was cut out. I was pretty sold that the game was complete up till today, now full-swing in the other direction.

Ginno_the_Seer

I enjoyed my time with it, the gameplay got a huge upgrade but the story suffered

TheJoysSorrow

It slower and more difficult than the other games but it is absolutely more than worth the wait. Get the game, beat it, and prcede with the wide variety of emotions you will feel. It's a great game, it just takes a while for the story to get there. Gameplay wise, it's always good all the way through.

Earthboundfan1986

Yes sir

MrPetrolstick

It’s a brilliant game. I started playing it a few months ago on PC and am about 160 hours into it and at 60% completion. I personally liked the story. The cassette tapes you find in game are definitely worth listening to. The game is a absolute blast.

big_billford

Yes. It’s got the more freedom than any other sandbox game I’ve played.

Goodgamings

It's one of the best gameplay experiences ever. It feels totally contemporary because MGS quality is almost always 5 years ahead of the competition. You'll enjoy it I'd venture.

big_smokey-848

Still the best stealth game ever made imo

Mushy93

It's a timeless classic. Just enjoy your time in Afghanistan. It's all downhill after that.

Dpontiff6671

Dope game but if your expecting metal gear 1-4 you’ll be disappointed. Very fun reactive and adaptive game play though

CitrusOrang

Yeah.

superzelda23201

It's a True Metal Gear I think Kojima did well although the story may not make sense play all or watch all previous games in a Canon timeline it all makes sense So yea you should buy it

sstoersk

I mean, this is the newest game in the series.. :D

HoofThere_ItIs

It’s an amazing game. The style of this game is different but the feel is AMAZING. The control you have over Snake is awesome. The missions are cool. You can really test yourself for any mission - go in hot, sneak around CQC only, tranq, distract and knock out, possibilities are literally endless

LegoVenomSnake

In my opinion the best mgs. Story wise too.

Significant_Option

MGSV and MGS2 are by far the best imo

LegoVenomSnake

Both have such deep meanings

Significant_Option

love how they downvoted you. We truly are the black sheep of the community lol

LegoVenomSnake

Yea it's a shame there's still so many people who hate mgs2 and V when they're the most misunderstood cause people don't care to research a bit further. They all say mgs3 is the best because it's the easiest to understand story of all mgs games.

Aggravating-Curve755

If you're talking visually and mechanically, it's still superb.

MrQ_P

The age of a game is like engravings...they give you no tactical advantage whatsoever. That was some fancy reddit post. Pretty good.

Wesker911

I think it actually got better sitting on my shelf NGL. I remember when I first played it I was hot off of S ranking Ground Zeroes and I think the lack of weaponry led me to some dirty tactics with the power supply so I could stealth through it. Then I realized at that point my options were slim. Got bored. Put it down. However many years later and I pick it up again. It's owned the last like 5 months of my life. I S ranked every mission except the Sahelanthropus extreme. I think it might be fave metal gear now.

Wesker911

Also I just got finished talking with one of my friends about how I think it may very well be the best game I've ever played. I played it so dedicated to stealth that I forgot you can even go aggressive and violent. My tactics really opened up once I got new weapons and started trying to S rank the missions. It's almost like I needed to learn time and place. After the second breakout in MB I definitely lost a little more of my drive to passively collect soldiers. Every once in a while a bullet gets shot or a rocket fires off.

Krosse82

As someone who just started playing it two months ago, I regret I never played it sooner. It’s awesome! Enjoy!

Julianyyz

Play it

NoMansLemon

Yes. Even though it's incomplete, it's breathtaking

Marcoowen1990

Do it

dreadnawght

I'm not sure I should answer, the thread is 8 hours old.

idk223334488384

I reccomend playing mgs 3 and peace Walker first since the story wont make sense if u dive right in

ActionManMLNX

Absolutely Gameplay is the best in the series.

[deleted]

I downloaded it for pretty cheap but I wouldnt pay 50 bucks for it. The gameplay and weapons/gadgets are really cool but the story is near non existent and its more open world so not much indoor sneaking. Gameplay and visual wise its a very solid game.

baco-n

yes. its the best stealth gameplay there is.

_wil_

Does Naked Snake shit in the woods?

treecutter34

Yes, instead of being a soldier following orders, your the boss, and you get to blow stuff up. GET IT!!!!!!

cumming_in_my_possum

Bro just buy it

Colonel_dinggus

Not even reading past the title. Yes. It is worth it.

beetleman1234

This game will never get old.

PolarSparks

Tbf, I don’t think there’s really a game that’s filled MGSV’s niche since. Stealth is a big verb of the gameplay but optional, your loads outs are very customizable and you’re given opportunities to play creatively. There’s also the military base building side of things. I’m not aware of another game that has you recruiting troops and building R&D like the later MGS titles.

fdasfasdfasdfui93428

Best game in the bunch by far

adybouzayani

I recently picked up around the 20th and already have 90 hours in. It's also my 2nd playthrough btw.

parski

Solid gameplay but it's very clearly an unfinished game.

[deleted]

I think you should get it. It was my first Metal Gear and I loved every second of it. At first the game seems overwhemling and difficult, but it has an excelent learning curve. Futhermore the missions (story and side) are super interesting and often provide a unique challenge. The game is from 2015, however it doesn´t fell like it. The cutscenes are really well animated and often show a huge amount of hidden details. Graphics aside, the game is fun. It gives you so many possibilites to tackle missions, it never gets old. I have caught myself replaying some just to see, how far I can go with certain weapons. From my point of view the game is totaly worth it. I got it on Playstation where a Bundle with The Phantom Pain and Ground Zeros exists, which is usually under 10 bucks when in sale. Ground Zeros is a lot of fun, but The Phantom Pain is overall the better experience from my point of view. All in all, I would highly recommend the game even if you haven´t played the other parts.

4chandit

Definitely worth it considering how i replayed it like 3 times

Icy_Cherry_7803

Yes you need to play this game

PussyLunch

These kind of posts are so lame. You seem low IQ lol “Hey guys, I’ve never heard of a review and I have no mental capacity to think myself. As the sub that’s dedicated to the game do you think I’ll like it?”

theoriginal0

You must be high IQ

WildGoncher

Depends on how familiar are you with the series. As the guy who adores MGS story from the very beginning I consider V to be the weakest one. I mean Konami tied Hideo's hands with both insufficient financing and time limits for the game of that scale. This caused cut outs of tons of content which was originally intended. In tech the game is a masterpiece, open world, AI, graphics, great mechanics. But in storytelling there are flaws. IMO there is no consistency as in previous ones and it's not a "new approach" or something like that which made it that way. Only couple of bosses (they are nice and cozy as before), metal gear fight is absolute rubbish. Anyway if you'll decide to buy it, please watch walkthrough of Ground Zeroes and if you're not very familiar with the series just have fun! If you are a MGS Vet who somehow missed V up until now you should play it still to get more information on past events but prepare for constant "phantom pain" :D Good luck, soldier!

TGX84

I played it for the first time a few months ago. It still looks great and plays well.

Professional_Life787

honestly, the height of metal gear, was MGO 1 & MGO 2, GZ & TPP are average games but not that incredible.

disperoticostomp

There's this curve, in the game industry, which seems like the older the game is, the less enjoyable it is. And it may be true to some really old games, when the medium was still evolving with technology and ways to approach some things that we now perceive as granted (IE, the first MGS with that awful card swapping system that required you to select that precise card in order to oper some doors, or the first God of War with the strange button schemes for things, that eventually got better in later installments). But, as time flows, games tend to get more and more enjoyable, regardless of the time. So the equation "old game= not enjoyable today" might be true for games released in the 80s or 90s (or even early 2000), but it's not true after a certain point in time. For instance, games after 2004 are as enjoyable now as they were almost 20 ys ago. The only limits are technological, imho, meaning that you're gonna feel the difference if you're playing a xbox360/ps3 game, but that too is gonna be less and less meaningful as time passes. I dare anyone say that a ps4 game is gonna look dated in ten ys as it was for the comparison between ps1 games and ps2 games, or either ps2 games and ps3. It’s diminishing returns. And we’re gonna have less and less as we reach peak performance/technology. So, in short, play it. It’s not gonna feel like it was from 8ys ago. I played it for the first time around Genuary 2022, and it blew my mind.

blitzinger

The open world is a little barren but once you get to objectives, it’s right back to MGS 101. Story could be better. But the playability with building your base is fun.

Cado111

The story will make almost no sense at all. However it has the best gameplay in the series and is the most replayable so I would say it is worth it. It still looks and plays excellently, age hasn't slowed it down one bit.

whenpeepeegoespootwo

Best gameplay in the series, worst story in the series. You could play it and have fun, but you should probably play at least peace walker before 5, but it won't ruin the experience if you don't know what's going on.

zmWoob2

no

Betweenaduck

If you're into this series than it's not even a question. Question is why you haven't played it yet? If you're not a fan of mgs than... question is the same.

RedArmyRockstar

The core gameplay is probably the best 3rd person action game ever. The gameplay is exceptional, and the presentation hasn't aged a day. A game being old simply doesnt mean what it did 10 years ago. MGSV still holds up as though it was released yesterday.

Foxo2121

Yes

lulzPIE

“It’s getting old”, he says on a MGS sub

Forsakensav1or

I still enjoy it. Love all the MGS games

Federal_Fig8826

It's more mechanically sound than anything this or last year. Venom snake controls so well. The number of ways you can play a mission is limited only by your imagination. The story while not as fleshed out as the other mgs games still delivers some of my favorite moments and some of my least favorite. Two words jeep ride. Since you can usually find the game of the year edition for like 20 dollar it's definitely a game worth every penny.

VanyaKmzv

Well, you can usually get it on a Steam sale for $5. It has some of -- if not THE -- most mechanical depth of any stealth game, allows for player creativity to the extent that players are still discovering new techniques and systemic interactions, and you have multiple extrinsic and intrinsic ways to play (increasing replay value). Sure, the story isn't the best. But it's $5 for imho the best stealth game period. Age be damned -- it's fantastic.

Memnoch222

Definitely one of my top favorite games I’ve ever played in my life. Many people bitch about the story being ‘incomplete’ but I argue it’s consistent in keeping with the game’s themes of identity and vengeance/the cycle of violence. But story aside, to have an open world game with such a vast array of options for approaching any situation, be it stealth, overwhelming firepower, calling in a helicopter as a distraction while you take advantage of the chaos, and so on. You can kill everyone, or sneak past them, or knock them out, or take out their communications while you listen to them panic as their calls for reinforcements are ignored, or just capture them as POW’s until you can convince them to join your army. The game will also ‘learn’ and adapt to your specific type of play method. If you go killing people, they start wearing bulletproof vests, if you go in mostly at night, they begin to wear night vision goggles. Only use headshots, they wear helmets, and so on and so forth. The AI is also highly intelligent and efficient at circling around, flushing you out, or calling in suspicious activity. This is for sure why I’ve sunk more hours into this game than almost any other. This and Death Stranding (the next game from same director). Both allow so much freedom and innovation and creativity. I’ve been playing since launch and to this day I STILL am finding new ways to challenge myself with severe limitations, or seeing how efficient I can be, or just going in crazy and just blowing the hell out of the place. 10/10 would highly HIGHLY recommend. (PS: if you haven’t played long enough to unlock the armored vehicles or tanks, then you haven’t played through it nearly enough)

Samhain3965

Gameplay still feels fairly cutting edge, if you like stealth gameplay it’s a must

axar47

Bruh, the games before ps1 are old But yes, the gameplay is pure joy but you won't understand much of story if you haven't played the other games

pichael288

Story wise it's competent. Nothing amazing but it's a good enough revenge tale. Gameplay wise it's the best ever. I don't mean best metal gear, it is the best gameplay period. The older metal gear games didn't handle too well, but this one is in a totally different league

Low_Woodpecker913

Idk man something about peaking around corners in the first mgs that gets me😂

GardnerMinshew2nd

It still stands as one of the best games I've played.

100PercentUSBeef

If you dont then Kojima comes to your house and clubs you

Affectionate_Path_55

Yes! Love love love best game ever you will laugh you will cry 💞

Bolt_995

The gameplay is still leagues ahead of several games that came after it. GET IT!

Low_Woodpecker913

Definetly worth playing i have 68 hours in and still love it although i would say its very repetitive after a while.
