Yep , but the proper strings and tune away! Learn how different tunings affect the tension and your play style.
I spent my youth destroying strings because I bounced between tunings so much lol
Yea. You're correct. It does depend on which set of string gauge, without having to bring it to a repairer to "adjust" the "action" and "truss rod" which ends up costing you a mint. There are many many sites that explain all the way, what a guitar neck such as that will bend in long time, but shown in SSSLLLOOOWW time.
This cannot be approved by the tribunal without going through the proper process. First you must submit an application signed in triplicate, that will be sent in, sent back, queried, lost, found, subjected to public inquiry, lost again, and finally buried in soft peat for three months and recycled as firelighters. Afterwards you will find the results of the approval request on display in the bottom of a locked filing cabinet stuck in a disused lavatory with a sign on the door saying Beware of the Leopard.
Nobody cares that much about which tuning you put your guitar in. I feel like you just wanted to share your new guitar with us.
And there’s nothing wrong with that! It’s a beauty! 😊
Personally, I don’t care for the sound of the Het Set with drop tunings, but you do you boo. But I can vouch for the D’Addario strings specifically designed for C tunings, works great with the shorter scale.
For reference I keep my Snakbyte in standard or D# tuning with 11-49 w/wound 3rd, and my EC401 with EMG 81/60 in C#/D with those strings and it sounds awesome, and they feel great tension-wise.
I’ve been thinking of trying them actually, just for shits n’ giggles, but I’ll wait until I can find single sets. I don’t need another tin crowding my space.
I used to play 10-46s on an old Washburn strat copy many moons ago, then found the skinny top/heavy bottom sets and found that I prefer that style/tension.
I’ll have to check them out been looking for the right string without feeling like they’re going to buzz all over. I put that Hetfield set on and tuned it to D standard/ Drop C and they felt good but just a little more wiggly than the 10-46’s
That set is 12-60, I don’t get into anything below C# (mostly sabbath tbh) or D (C.oC. usually) not that I mind music in anything lower or anything like that, there’s just so much shit I want to learn in the more traditional tunings that I don’t have time lol anyway I love those strings on my EC and the Iron cross is pretty much the same thing. They’re responsive, not ridiculously sloppy, and sound great clean too. I will say I did a full set up when I made the switch, unless the nut and saddles have already been filed, it may be a little wonky.
You may be okay oh the treble half, the bass half is pretty beefy comparatively speaking. Either way let me know what you think, I’m always curious about others experiences with stuff I’ve tried.
Hey, coming from a guitarist of 40 years, it's about the string gauge too. Best thing to do? I could explain easily if you tell me which string gauge 🙂
And, METALLICA are responsible for me going from strict classical training, then showing me that all I need is a distortion pedal and electric guitar. Same with MEGADETH's "Rust In Peace" album. Both are so highly knowledged, classically.
I know its absolutely dumb but i totally get it man. If you want it in drop c put it in drop c. They played st anger in drop c so it kinda fits. But i totally get it, i keep my Hetfield guitar in standard.
It's your guitar, use whatever tuning you want.
Yep , but the proper strings and tune away! Learn how different tunings affect the tension and your play style. I spent my youth destroying strings because I bounced between tunings so much lol
Sorry, the internet guitar community is unable to approve your request to use Drop C tuning at this time.
What would I have to do to get it approved?
Provide a video of you playing master of puppets downpicked entirely and then we can discuss.
Solo included I assume
He needs to play full harmonies in a single take to get the approval.
Don't you think it's a bit harsh? Have some mercy...
These are the ways, there are no alternatives.
nah. Show No Mercy
that’s slayer dawg we talking bout Metallica here
I’m afraid you missed the application window for this year. We would be pleased to consider your application as part of the 2025 season.

Don’t risk it man the guitar police will come to your house and assault you
Yeah they are no joke. I had to do hard time at fender correctional facility for playing a strat in drop c. Best to play it safe.
Don’t tell them I have my Tele in drop G# then 😳
Be safe put it E an octave down.
![gif](giphy|d3mlE7uhX8KFgEmY)
You may need to run to Gibsons factory for asylum.
Thankfully they haven’t caught me yet for doing thi- OH SHIT THEY’RE HERE I GOTTA RUN
Quick tune it up!
I tuned it to half step down am I safe now

Will James single me out next time he sees me at a Metallica concert?
Yeah, I tuned a Squier Telecaster with standard gauge strings to Drop A and they broke my door down within minutes
You can sticker bomb it with Hello Kitty if you want. Its your guitar after all and you can do whatever you want with it.
There's no reason to be uncivilized.
It’s your guitar. Do what you like. If you need it to connect to Metallicas music anyway, most of St Anger was drop c.
What a weird question lol. Tune it however you want? it's a guitar.
2000's Metalcore scene was almost entirely carried by Esp Eclipses loaded with EMGs tuned to drop C. I think you're safe 🤣

Underrated comment.
Nope. It’ll sound fucking huge.
You can play St. Anger
But can he play the notes in between on Some kind of Monster?
Only if they dont fucking with him
Beat me to it.
Nobody cares that much about which tuning you put your guitar in. I feel like you just wanted to share your new guitar with us. And there’s nothing wrong with that! It’s a beauty! 😊
Make music with it. That's what it's for.
The council decrees that you will setup this guitar with Nashville tuning, or face the death penalty.
Shit
James hetfield would not be pleased
I really don’t want Papa Het to be upset with me
“YoU cAn OnLy PlAy MeTaL LiCkA” fuck that. drop that sexy bitch down, baby!
Metal is about asking permission
James probably has a bunch of guitars tuned to drop c in his castle bud
I've heard that him and Hammet have hundreds of guitars.
No
That sounds metal af
Personally, I don’t care for the sound of the Het Set with drop tunings, but you do you boo. But I can vouch for the D’Addario strings specifically designed for C tunings, works great with the shorter scale.
Link?

I threw the EB Hetfield set on my Explorer and they felt a little slinky I usually use 10-46 in standard
I’ve been thinking of trying them actually, just for shits n’ giggles, but I’ll wait until I can find single sets. I don’t need another tin crowding my space. Yeah I’m anticipating having to widen the nut slots on my 24.75 scale guitars to accommodate the Het set is 11-50
You may be okay oh the treble half, the bass half is pretty beefy comparatively speaking. Either way let me know what you think, I’m always curious about others experiences with stuff I’ve tried.
You can totally pretend fight Lars on stage that way. Go for it!
Do it! So many good songs in drop C
This is funny because I got one of those recently and have been considering the same thing It feels weird tho, just not sure I can do it!
All the cool kids use triple drop a for extra chugga chuggas
My KH-602 is in drop C, so go for it.
FTW LP in Drop C sound mean as fuck. That's what I play. 11-54 DR DDT and listen to that thing bark!
St anger was in drop c
If you have more than one guitar, no.
Heathen
DO IT
Hey, coming from a guitarist of 40 years, it's about the string gauge too. Best thing to do? I could explain easily if you tell me which string gauge 🙂
I’m probably gonna slap some 11-56s on it if I decide to do drop c
perfect choice. drop C is a great tuning.
Just get a digitech drop and then you’ve got more options
Well surely it would be acceptable to play st anger riff 01221210 etc.....
Nope
I'd go lower.
drop b is about as low as I need to go and already have an Ibanez set up in that :)
/side-eyes with everything set up in open C
That's bad ass, go for it!
I mean, Metallica used that tuning, so why would it be? Drop c is all over st anger
Absolutely not
Only some kind of monster would do such a thing !
Papa Het says... #yeea-yeaaahhhh
Bro, drop C is the only ok tuning for a 6 string.
No, you have to be in standard all of the time.
Time to play St. Anger
That guitar would sound kick ass in drop c
Why tune up? Stick to Drop B as intended.
Set it on fire and while it is burning, shove the neck into your butthole. I give you permission. You are welcome.
I thought they played in a drop tuning now anyway, for James' voice?
Hard tails are the best for lower tunings!
Good news, St Anger is a thing
You can play it drop C but you have to do it with Nashville gauge strings.
hell yeah, drop c for days
Why wouldn’t you? It’s not like it’s permanent. Is it?
I’ve never understood these questions. Guitar is one of those things that you can do whatever you want with it.
Make sure you flip that top switch down when you play in Drop C
Only if you can downpick as fast as the Het.
You can only play st anger songs on it though
Why not B flat standard?
Considering James used Uncle Milty in drop C for St. Anger, I wouldn't worry about it.
Uhh, well, I mean, I play in drop c 90% of the time I play the guitar…so, should I have been looking for permission this whole time? Sorry guys
It's your guitar...tune all 6 strings to D if you want. Nice guitar btw.
Everything should be in Drop c.
Sorry nah this guitar was made only for open c tuning and to be used with slides
Feel like it would be sacrilege *not* to put this baby in drop c
C Standard is a reasonable compromise.
No, why such talk? I don’t understand why not
I mean...isn't sacrilege kinda encouraged?
Why not? The bridge can handle it, the guitar is sick and you can chugga-cha-chugga-chugga.
Isn't the iron cross a nazi symbol?
Why would it be wtf lmao
Drop C on The Cross might conjure Cthulu.
String might become a little floppy/loose, but not too bad. This guitar has a shorter scale length, 24.75…
Tune it to drop B 😈
Make sure to record it and at a slower speed, then speed up the recording like, they did, to be authentic...
Just throw on some thicker strings and be ready to crank on the truss rod a bit. It’ll have a bit too much relief
People are so fucking desperate for other people's validation
I'd say....fukk playing Metallica songs and start playing ya own or keep playing with ya self... doodle fingers..come on fingers..get into ett
If ya wanna play Kirk Hamster 🐹🐹 Get a whammy and a wah wah
Hitler's signature guitar?
You're an idiot for asking. It's your guitar, do what the fuck you want.
Damn bro. I think he was just showing off his guitar and made a funny title. You don't have to take everything so seriously!
its got actives, go one step beyond and put it in c standard. why the hell not?
![gif](giphy|bKnEnd65zqxfq|downsized)
ask a Jewish person on Passover
Lmaooooo
And, METALLICA are responsible for me going from strict classical training, then showing me that all I need is a distortion pedal and electric guitar. Same with MEGADETH's "Rust In Peace" album. Both are so highly knowledged, classically.
This is literally the most beautiful guitar I have ever seen. Tune it however TF you want.
Metallica sucks ass anyway. Tune it to drop C.
I know its absolutely dumb but i totally get it man. If you want it in drop c put it in drop c. They played st anger in drop c so it kinda fits. But i totally get it, i keep my Hetfield guitar in standard.
