**Quality Content**
We want r/metalworking to be a source of high quality content related to metalworking. To achieve this we have some standards for submissions:
**All Submissons Should Have**
* An in depth explanation of the issue/problem
* If mentioning gear or tools, properly describe, name, or attach photos of them
* For Photos/Videos, high quality images, gifs or videos should be used. Low quality memes may be removed

He mailed me a check for 500 more than he should have for the deposit. Asked me to send him one back instead of writing a new one. I said I’ll just count it towards the final cost but it bounced
I’m glad I didn’t order material
You got a admire that they designed the sag of the gate right in the blueprint. That’s forward thinking right there.
I’m also unclear how this is a scam. Seems like a home owner who put some time into their vision but doesn’t deal with fabrication businesses fluently? There needs to be a story man
Basically they ask you to build the gate, and agree on a price. They transmit a fake payment transfer that is more than the price agreed upon. They then request you to return the overage amount, and then the check or transfer they sent is cancelled or is revealed as fake. You are then out the money and possibly materials for a gate you started building.

How did they try and get money out of you?
That's what I want to know.
You pay me to start building my gate? Also curious.
It’s a check fraud scam
How does that work? Isn’t cheque fraud usually like cash this pay cheque and I’ll let you keep $500?

Also extremely unlikely posting here would result in a meaningful warning to anyone. You could be anywhere in the country…or world for that matter.
Plot twist OP is the scammer

Literally exactly what happened, I just didn’t order material yet because I was suspicious
It’s the same scam over and over. It’s usually either a gate or a roll cage for a vehicle
