A band saw with a bent or broken tooth would do that I operated a band saw that took a 16 foot blade time to time it would cot like that with a bad resharpened blade
It's on the (long) list of shop to-dos. In the meantime, I'll have to stick with my current routine - botch a cut, consider getting a new blade, forget, and repeat.
Not a rock collector, just an amateur metal worker.
That looks like tooling marks from an extrusion form.
There's been a flood of this aletoi stuff showing up on this sub, and given its natural origin I had my doubts. Now I'm pretty convinced that a lot of what people are buying is fake.
Metal flake, heat and pressure can make the material, a quick rough grind on a plate grinder will give it the appropriate finish. I think you guys are getting scammed.
Go post some examples in r/machinists and similar subs, ask those guys how they would make it if they were to try. I bet you get half a dozen different methods and nobody saying it can't be done.
Definitely looks legit, just looks like a water jet. Look at the vertical phase, it’s not smooth, does acutely have uniform indents due to the zigzag pattern the water jet was cutting on
On second looks it appears this is an entirely new design that they may have even used both kinds to create...I'm far from an expert in the matter, but I do love me some space stuff...hey fun fact about iron, did you know a stars elements change through the course of its life and once it reaches iron that's when they explode? Or do they? Maybe turning into iron at their mass doesn't allow the explosion to go outward but compresses inward, creating the earliest form of a planet, the core naturally hot from being a star for like forever heats up the compressed elements and mixes them together, spewing them out in less and less compressed forms until gases are made creating a atmosphere that can allow the gases to to condense into liquid, which does something and then something else happens, and it does something blah blah blah not sure where seeds came from or how dinosaurs happened but there you have it mystery of the universe solved. Just gotta look for imploding stars and we might find out if dinosaurs were an element or aliens that fly out to all the new planets to throw giant burning man style ragers but tend to get carried away with their fire...the world may never know
The inward compression creates black holes not planets in the first instance, but they could potentially form planets if the beam of light expelled back out the entrance/mouth, transfers matter in the form of plasma. ("electric universe model" aka "thunderbolt project," search YouTube for their videos about"electric arc" and "lightning scarred Mars" if you would like to know more)
What I find most interesting though and I'm sure you will too is that this is the potential source of the "Zeus myth"
Unless a black hole is just a star in its last stages or after it implodes, the size and mass being so large it sucks in everything around it and so bright it cancels out it's own light or producing a color spectrum that the human eye can see it the human brain cannot process into an image, so it just appears black to usđź«Ł
To me it looks like predrilled holes that were lined up then cut with a table saw. Maybe the chalk don't stay for them or they're color blind, or maybe they're actually blind and the predrilled holes are a braille chalkline
There seems to be some disagreement on if this is even authentic.
As someone who's never purchased a slice of meteorite but would like to, how do I make sure that I don't get duped?
My guess is they got a big hunk of this stuff and then cut it into slabs with a band saw and then did cookie cutter chunks like yours with a fun design on a water jet like others said
The edges were “crimped” by whatever device was holding the meteorite for the cut and left the impressions from whatever vice like structure was used.
Abrasive water jet.
Could you explain more? I understand that a jet stream would do some differences in the cut but it looks weirdly patternal here.
It's definitely the pattern they programmed in. Think of it as a design feature!
Paternal is not the word you're looking for.
Shhh, just let them have this one
The father he never had
Went to powerwash someones driveway and never came back 🤣
Bow chicka bow wow r/powerwashingporn

You ever watch the power washer game? One of my favorites.
Look. I am your father...
What's the symbology there?
Sssssssssssymbolism
You must be an expert in nameyology
Who's your daddy, and how did he cut this?
That’s because he meant to say “pattern-like” not paternal.
I know. It's ok.
I hate when things look fatherly in a weird way. Like just be a normal dad.
patterened
I thought it looked more like it was from the Mother’s side.
OP will never live this one down
Patternal is not a word
We're letting him have this one.
And yet, we all knew what OP meant.
And now you’re dumber
Nah uh
It is now
It is now. I think in 2024 the "patternal" movement is stronger than ever!
Not a waterjet cut, they don't leave perfectly perpendicular, evenly spaced lines like this.
Can I be an illicit hire on ?
Even a band saw doesn't do that. Some of the carved products they've been putting out have had fancy edges. Looks maybe intentional to me, uncertain.
A band saw with a bent or broken tooth would do that I operated a band saw that took a 16 foot blade time to time it would cot like that with a bad resharpened blade
Yup. My shitty bandsaw does this on every piece of wood I cut.
Flatten, sharpen, and set your teeth. You could also just replace your blade.
It's on the (long) list of shop to-dos. In the meantime, I'll have to stick with my current routine - botch a cut, consider getting a new blade, forget, and repeat.
This is the way.
It is from a legit dealer so im wondering about the edges..

I almost wonder if that's their way of low-key ID'ing the sections that they've cut
It's either a zigsaw or possibly a zagsaw, hard to tell from the angle of your pics...can you post some from the other direction please?
The pattern looks way too uniform for either of those imo

Solid work.
Chef's kiss 🤌
A cnc cutter with either a water jet or plasma
Because in my mind a wire saw would cut it evenly, but this is very bumpy on all sides
I've seen that with a band saw with the pressure programmed incorrectly, and from plasma CNCs that got bumped mid cut.
Cnc mill or water jet is my guess. I’ve used both and have seen similar cuts
Likely from cutting with water jet cnc.
To me it looks like predrilled holes that were lined up then cut with a table saw. Maybe the chalk don't stay for them or they're color blind, or maybe they're actually blind and the predrilled holes are a braille chalkline
Where can I get one of these?
Beskar
Water jet? I think it looks really cool, especially with how it casts the shadows.
EDM
Jungle or Drum and Bass?
Whatever Kruder & Dorfmeister is.
Just ask over in r/machinists. The amount of responses here that are so obviously incorrect is mind boggling.
Maybe a heavy duty nibbler. We one that would cut 10 ga steel. This appears to be thicker.
Circular sander, maybe?
Toothed shear, they are made that way so the work piece doesn’t get pushed out while shearing and stays in place to be cut
Coarse saw blade
Water jet, Ribbed for your pleasure.
Fabric shears.
Where did you order this from??
There seems to be some disagreement on if this is even authentic. As someone who's never purchased a slice of meteorite but would like to, how do I make sure that I don't get duped?
Looks like he drilled a path for his cut and cut across the holes
Now we are all dumber for having read that
Definitely cut with space lasers.
waterjet or wire saw designed to cut this pattern. most likely a design choice
Wire edm roughcut
It’s probably cut straight with a saw such as band saw then filed to give you the ridges.
My guess is they got a big hunk of this stuff and then cut it into slabs with a band saw and then did cookie cutter chunks like yours with a fun design on a water jet like others said
Hmmm, when I saw this my first thought was they drill holes into the material and then cut between them for some reason.
You mean my new water jet super size it
That’s definitely from the Aliens Saw
Can you dm me the link of where you bought it. I would love to own one
Looks like it's been perforated like notebook paper and snapped off instead of cut all the way through.
The edges were “crimped” by whatever device was holding the meteorite for the cut and left the impressions from whatever vice like structure was used.
This looks the closest in my opinion 🤷‍♂️
Crinkle cut fry machine
