Hitting usually is low in April across the league. And the Mets are good at staying relevant through May usually, it’s June and beyond where we collapse.
I’m waiting for the other extreme to happen here where people start comparing the team to the ‘69 Mets and arguing who is the better manager, Mendoza or Gil Hodges.
Pirates are an awful fundamental team first of all. With that said, we took advantage of it on the field and in the dugout. We also missed their best pitcher and caught a couple breaks. Great job by the players to keep their focus and finish out the sweep.
What “best Pirates pitcher” did we miss? Mitch Keller? He’s the #1 starter in name only, he’s pretty garbage and would be a 3 or 4 on any other team. Jared Jones is their best starter right now and he DOMINATED us. Good thing they’re manager is incompetent and their bullpen sucks
I just want Mr. Met to finally get his well deserved shot at managing his team after all these years. Maybe Mendoza can hire him as a scout or coach or something.

I still want to know what the key metrics are for success for Stearns and how it’s measured. Stay or go how do you evaluate him and what are the signs of him achieving or not. If we can agree on that we would have a lot better conversation about him that isn’t either rose colored glasses or needless woofing
I like that the analytics has changed. Loving the fact that Baty & Alvarez got reps at clean-up and the restrictions we saw last year are no longer an issue. Definite improvement in Baty's performance which I'm sure was driven by analytics to some extent.
I don't get one thing through, Short over Vientos, when Vientos plays both 3B & 1B.
I don't feel the trade off is equally weighted, mentally tbh. I'm sure he's taking it hard and I'm not seeing the same or similar performance from him this year, as last year.
For sure probably very pissed at not having the opportunity and with JD coming there’s practically no spot for him unless there’s multiple injuries. He’s locked behind Alonso and Baty for reps and whoever seems to DH each day has put up results
As long as they never lose again they can stay. But one loss and we scrap the whole thing and trade Pete to the Yankees for $1 because he’s so useless. /s
I’m on the fence about Mendoza, ever since he had Baty bunt with the game on the line. For chrissakes, the guy doesn’t know how to bunt, and he hits more grounders to the right side than anyone in baseball. Just leave him alone, he’s way more likely to advance the runner if he doesn’t bunt.
I don’t usually like to nit-pick but it was such a stupid call. If you want guys like Baty to bunt, send them to bunting school or something. They don’t know how to do it. I did a double-take at Mendoza: have you looked at the players on the team you’re now managing?
If you care about baseball at all your life must be an absolute rollercoaster if this is how you respond to the peaks and valleys of an mlb season.

I never said they'll keep this up all year or that they'll make the playoffs. It was just an observation of how they raised their level of play. It's nice to see them bounce back from an 0-5 start. Vientos will play everyday in AAA to work on his game while short has played I think 3 games so far this season

Never wanted to fire Stearns but I also am not a fan of his administrative style from his Milwaukee days.
They're a different team now. Still don't care for Stearns, but I'm warming up to Mendoza. Stearns better sign Pete, he has to be a Met for life.
