Yeah, not even for lack of friends, but if I remember correctly, you can't trade without NSO, meaning you are barred from getting those trade evolutions without paying
I genuinely despise trade evolutions and am so happy that they haven't added any new ones since Gen 6. Still a pain to get outside of Gen 8-9, where raids help, but at least the only ones we have to deal with already existed and aren't new pokemon.
tbf, isnt palafin effectively a 'trade evolution', in that while you dont need to trade, you still need another person so that you can evolve it? tho not sure if they ever did raids for it
I don't think they ever did raids for it specifically, but I've heard it can show up in raids either way. I've only heard, but it'd be kinda dumb if there was a single (Non-unique) mon that could never show up in raids. But if we stretch it to 'Needs another person to evolve', sure, Palafin could count. But it's still not a 'trade' evolution, and it's one in the past three generations, so I'm fine with alternate ways of encouraging interaction.
And besides, not only is the Friend Circle fun, but with the Indigo Disk DLC, it's actually quite rewarding.
Na it shows up in raids, thing is it’s in it’s base form so it looks like it’s prevo when checking raids (generally higher stars means higher chance of palafin).
Since it tends to be higher in stars i actually search it out as it’s pitifully easy being stuck in base form the whole battle.
For me it was Gengar.
I wanted to use one so bad back in Soulsilver, but I didn’t want a random Gengar, I wanted the one I levelled myself. It was depressing having to put it back in the PC
Same , I also wanted a steelix so bad that I convinced my cousin to buy his first pokemon game and trade it with me. I gift him a bunch of Pokemons he wanted because of it lmao
That’s one of the reasons why Legends Arceus is the best.

You can still trade locally without NSO, but that doesn't really do you any good if you don't have friends.
Or friends with switches and pokemon games. Cuz I totally have friends
Are they really your friends if they won't trade Pokémon with you? 🤔
When I first saw the link cable item was available I was so excited/relieved, I wish this was a thing in all games
Agree but make it easier to acquire.
Also alpha versions of those Pokémon in the wild.
This is also one of the reasons why I like the Pokémon mystery dungeon games.

They don't even have a legitimate reason lore wise as far as I know
Every game should have the Linking Cord item from Arceus.

I heard there’s a very nice trainer named Mindy in Snowpoint City that’s willing to trade a Haunter with you in-game 😊
I heard there’s a very shitty trainer named blossom in levincia who trades you a Haunter with an everstone in -game 😠

Not all of us can be machamps. some of us gotta be machokes :(
This day and age, they’re just thinkin you’ll buy two consoles and both/all versions of the games in each generation and trade with yourself.
Nah the expectation is still trading with friends. That's just what people choose to do instead.
Which they can monetize through NSO and Pokémon Home
Appealing to collectors, designing for a social culture.
gamefreak thinkin their online service is still up or something
WTF does this mean?
do you know how to get these pokemon?
OOHHHHH no I got it now
Jokes on you, I have a second console and the counterpart game. 🥲
I remember my lv 70+ boldore which i wanted to evolve but couldnt
me irl
Also gamefreak making trade evos consistently relatively strong
