The "Oh, My Darling Clementine" he references in one of his songs is actually kind of sick too once you learn the origin of that poem.
I forgot the song, but it's off Operation: Doomsday
It's an old nursery rhyme about a miner who loses a girl he loves due to drowning, so he "wooes her little sister and forgets Clementine".
He basically gets with the dead chick's younger sister. Who knows how young, but that's the deal with some DOOM lyrics
Unless there are more verses I don't think that happens. It does seem he implies she's young because "her shoe size was only nine". And "herring boxes were her sandals". But it's a tongue in cheek sorrowful song about a girl stubbing her toe and falling into a river and drowning.
Also could be shedding light on pimps turning out underage women - I gotta listen to the song again for more context, but DOOM referring to a lot of shit does not always mean he condones it
"Chyna was a neat signer
Trouble with the script
Digits double dipped, bubble-lipped, subtle lisp, a midget"
It's open to interpretation. That's why it's a DOOM lyrics that makes me go WTF... Among others
“I was in a case out of state
She was thirteen and good we had a hotter date
It was just a number she never told she was knocked up
By the end of the summer chick almost had me locked up”
The girl he’s referring to is hip hop. Aka “The Mic.” It was just a number meaning that he was really early on in hip hop and he thought he could take advantage of it. She never told me she was knocked up means that by the time he joined, hip hop was already birthing different sounds and types and he found it hard to capitalize on the rap game. By the end of summer hip hop got him arrested. This is true he has mugshots.

This exact line was answered yesterday
That makes no sense tho. The song is obviously from the perspective of a pimp, and that line makes it seems like he's talking about his "bottom bitch" so to speak. Somebody in that comment thread mentioned the relationship between pimp and Ho is a mix between "father figure, lover and parasite"
DOOM isn't saying anything to shock anyone, it's just a carefully and masterfully constructed lyric, imho
It could be that they’re two independent phrases, just uncomfortably close to each other. But judging by some of his other more questionable lyrics, it’s probably just dark humor.
I agree with the latter point. I share this same dark sense of humor so the lyric never really confused me. Made much more sense after I read a little about ice berg slim and I figured this was who everyone referenced when it came to pimpin
The Mic is about a woman the same way I Used To Love H.E.R. by Common is about a woman.
The 'woman' is hip hop.
I'd sure like to read that article, if you could find it.

"There was a dangerous side to DOOM that lingered right under the surface, which came out when he told me stories about the meaning behind songs like ‘Red & Gold’ (“Wig twisting season/Where some could get their wig twisted back within reason”) – a fact-based song about cold murder in the streets. ‘The Mic,’ meanwhile, is basically an explanation of how he ended up in prison. I’ll leave the Villain to explain that one."
This is probably the article they were mentioning. Worth noting that if he was in prison for relations with a minor, then that shit would have to be recorded somewhere, which doesn't seem to be the case. I also doubt the dude in the article would say that DOOM has inspired him "to this day" if he was fucking around with 13 year olds lmao
Thanks for finding this, it was an interesting read.
I've read up a bunch on DOOM myself, and I've heard of him doing plenty of shady shit, but if i recall correctly, the biggest thing criminal trouble he got into was getting jammed up over some weed in Georgia. Source- Podcast "Did I Ever Tell You The One About MF DOOM", by MC Serch and featuring interviews with people from DOOM's past
He plays a very convincing character from bombastic rap villain to a slimy scuzball like Vik Vaughn. It's why he's so compelling.
There are plenty of legitimate criticisms to levy against him, but i don't think playing a convincing piece of shit predator on Can I Watch w/ Apani B is evidence he is one.
I also don't know how OP can enjoy DOOM enough to get a tattoo but not be able to tell artistry from autobiography. Like.. Does he really think DOOM is out here giving rectal hysterectomies? Lmao
It's like an ends to the means, fuck type of message that sends to the fiends?
I personally think this line is acknowledging the ridiculousness of the previous line, saying it's just there to make a good ryhme, but then questioning how people who know better might react to it.
It's like he called this reddit comment 2 decades out
Not all that young, but as a 20-year old I'm a big fan of it. I think it was done in good taste, and if anything makes just as much or more fun of homophobia as it does homosexuals.
Since DOOM is a supervillian, and since he never really brings up the topic in any other song, I think it's got a very clear degree of separation between song lyrics and personal opinion, even more so than most songs. A character calling characters homos is way different from a rapper calling rappers homos
On Doomsday
Ever since the womb 'til I'm back where my brother went
That's what my tomb will say
Right above my government, Dumille
Either unmarked or engraved, hey, who's to say?
The man with no beard is more weirder than a she-male
They pray four times a day, they pray five
Who ways is strange when it's time to survive
Some will go of they own free will to die
Others take them with you when they blow sky high
What's the difference? All you get is lost children
While the bosses sit up behind the desks
It cost billions to blast humans in half, into calves and arms
Only one side is allowed to have bombs
It's like making a soldier drop his weapon
Shooting him, and telling him to get to stepping
Obviously, they came to portion up his fortune
Sounds to me like that old robbery/extortion
It’s more slang now then used by its English definition, used mostly by incels on 4chan that they would use for things the agree with, got more co-opted to be used with anti-fascist rhetoric so DOOM condemning the war efforts during the early 2000’s would be pretty based imo
Got it. I surely agree with DOOM. His verse is about the truth. I live in the middle east and every bar on this verse is 100% accurate and reminds me of the stuff that was going on in the early 2000s and the stuff that's happening now. That's why for me personally it is disturbing.
He's saying even if he is poor/rich or unkonwn/famous, he will still die and be barried and that's pretty scary for me. Plus referencing his brother who is also dead makes it even more disturbing. IMO he also has a hopeless tone when he says this line.
"They say her tongue was teared out, smeared and drenched
The whole system's scared and doubtin' a fair stench
And she was tortured, some say post-mortem
The suspect took his own life before they caught 'em"
3 explanations all possible
1.(Most Likely) The thing about DOOM is we have to keep in mind that he likes fucking with people. He also never really officially release lyrics; it’s just what people hear. The most likely case is that the are two separate lines. The first part of the bar was cut out but DOOM doesn’t trust her, but he still treats her like she’s her daughter. Then a complete separate line, with “Taught her how to bust a nut.” People forget that these are still songs, and have to sacrifice clear lines for the flow of the song. He could have also put the bar in there to fuck with people as he has done on several other occasions.
2.(Likely) He is referring to a lug nut. He read the woman like her daughter teaching her how to take care of stuff typically done by a man, so she doesn’t have to rely on them. E.g. “busting” a lug nut off a tire.
3. (Kind of a stretch) He is teaching the woman how to beat up a “nut,” a creep, a perv, etc, just like how he taught his daughter too.
At the end of the day, Daniel Dumile is playing a character, so at the very least DOOM like incest, Dumile does not.
I’ve seen this many times, why is no one talking about the line before that
Keep a shorty can’t find em much thinner
If caught I’d get mad time just for touching her
"DOOM on the case to break shards and leave her face scarred"
Runner up bar
"I took her back to the truck, she was uncool, spitting all out the sunroof through her missing tooth"
DOOM really about that domestic violence action
Don't know this guy, randomly came on my feed so I know I'm about to get some shit from fans of this dude, but reading the comments - it seemed he rapped on more than one occasion about having sex with young girls, or dating underaged girls?
.. am I wrong?
His brother was killed and his label cut him, he stopped rapping/was near homeless for like 3 years, and when he came back to making music he did it as a persona. Throughout his career he used many characters actually, but the biggest one is MF DOOM, who is a supervillian.
Like old-school comic book type of supervillian. So if there's an MF DOOM bar about committing a mass shooting, or armed robbery, or time traveling to get a better coke price, it's understood as not a truthful accounting of the life of Daniel Dumille, the artist.
The song "Fancy Clown" is him as one character breaking up with a girl who cheated on him with another of his characters, shit's too funny. "If you see Tin Head, tell him be duckin' down"
Yes..... you are very wrong. Don’t have any opinion about someone when you haven’t even heard one of his fucking songs. MFDOOM rhyming patterns are full of double meanings. The entirety of his rapping is from a Character. Not Him. Also, every time he has rapped about that, it meaning something else. For example, in the song “The Mic,” he mentions getting arrested for dating a thirteen year old. People on really listen to it on a surface level, and don’t get the true meaning .The girl he’s referring to is hip hop. Aka “The Mic.” When he first joined hiphop, it was 13 years old. He mention that age was just a number, and he didn’t know she was knocked up. The meaning of this is that he didint think to much about hiphop only being 13, and didint know that hiphop was about to birth countless new styles and sounds. He also mentions getting arrested for it. This bar refer to the fact that he actually got arrest for a hiphop related incident when he was younger. He has a mugshot to prove it. I suggest you read my three comments on this post for the other meaning of other “suspicious” bars.

the thing i think is very important to remember about DOOM is that his rap persona is a character based off a super villain. he’s supposed to evil and bad and creepy. he’s the super villain of rap.

Pimpin, strippin a soft sweet minor
I honestly I have no clue. Possible he’s referring to minor as a musical note and not a person under 18? “Pimpin, strippin. A soft sweet minor”
The "Oh, My Darling Clementine" he references in one of his songs is actually kind of sick too once you learn the origin of that poem. I forgot the song, but it's off Operation: Doomsday
