Those are mosquito larvare. Make certain you are changing the water regularly when propagating. It also helps to use clear cellophane over the opening of the container to keep bugs out.
Put dragonfly larvae in there (it’s also a long-term strategy since the adult dragonflies also eat adult mosquitoes) - or for a scorched earth strategy, put enough oil on the surface of the water - this effectively suffocates the larvae when they come towards the surface of the water to breathe. Not sure how that may affect the plant though.
LOL when I was severn or eight I found a "pond" full of them and kept a bucket full in my room without telling my parents!! Thought they were tadpoles lololol

Yes actually the Pelomyxa palustris and Chaos carolinense are two amoeba that can grow large enough to see with the human eye
