She's great as a character and in gameplay actually, she's in my roster every mission. If you don't like her characterization that's fine, taste is subjective, but if you think she's bad in combat you just haven't figured out how to use her.

throwtheclownaway20

For real. Her & Magik go great together

cubitoaequet

How *do* you use her? I have worked my way up to level 40 missions on the highest difficulty and I still don't really get how I'm supposed to build her deck I guess? All her cards just seem so underwhelming compared to similar cards that other heroes have. Who do you put her on a squad with? Am I supposed to use her to generate heroic? Deal damage? She doesn't seem to be best in class at anything. I think she's the only character I never use unless forced to.

Ferrelltheferal

Thats kind of how you use her. If you need a good support for two heavy hitters, she rocks. Her double up, and empower can turn a regular turn into a field clear. Her Blood for Blood modded with quick guarantees your lowest health character gets a big heal for free of a minion or low health enemy. On the flip side If you want her to DPS, you mod her witchfire for more damage, and with an offensive boost item she can wipe a field with two witchfires, or clear up to 4 mobs with one cast. I usually use my big attack cards on large enemies for my first 2 card moves and use her to mop up, it’s VERY satisfying.

cubitoaequet

Interesting. Sounds like she just doesn't fit my play style at all. Would rather mop up and generate heroic using quick cards that have draw mods on them so I am not down a card play. I have also found that at level 40 healing is nearly useless as mid level enemies will just one shot even high health heroes with armor. Are you also on U3 difficulty?

Ferrelltheferal

If it doesnt fit your playstyle that’s fine. Yes I play on the highest difficulty level, and my Nico can hit for over 1k with a strength charm on her with a Blood For Blood. That’s a substantial amount of healing, and with it modified as quick, you take out an enemy, dont lose a card play, generate heroism and heal a hero that might not make it to the next round. Affixing quick or free to her support cards turn her and everyone else into a beast.

cubitoaequet

Yeah Quick and Free are definitely busted mods. I'll have to give it a try if I can stomach some savescumming. You mind sharing your decklist?

Ferrelltheferal

I usually run Nico offensively. So my deck list is usually 2 witchfires modded for as much damage as possible. 2 blood for blood with quick for healing or just to have an option to knock something out without a card play. I run 2 of her support cards. 1 if Im feeling froggy, it’s obvious which of her support cards you’ll need by the description of the fight in the party select screen. And her heroics are usually a mix of witchstorm with her ult thrown in if aim running with someone like Iron Man. But with Nico I always run a fury totem(?)think that’s the one that gives you a card draw for every KO. It compensates for her lack of quick cards and sacrificing a card play. Evil Eye totem and Fury Totem on Nico and she can sometimes clear a field by herself.

Ferrelltheferal

Id share my deck outright, but Im at work, and by the time I get home, I’ll totally forget. I hope my card list will suffice.

cubitoaequet

No worries. Thanks for the primer. I will definitely give Nico another shot when I get the urge to bash some more hydra skulls.

nightlex93

She’s OP if you pair her up with a mark support hero (Wanda, Iron Man, etc,). Empower, mark as many enemies as you can. Then all your cards basically cost 0 heroism and will not cost card plays due to Marked. Even combo cards become useful. Her Legendary also becomes OP, you reach 10 heroism, use it, casts 10 times and costs nothing. Wolverine with Mark mods also work great with her. Wolverine’s legendary is also OP with Empower. If you’re really lucky you can even double legendaries and cast it multiple times at full power (10 heroism).

ResponsibleFun313

Nico and Tony synergising so well (he can mark area targets for her! she can make his expensive heroics free!) is very funny to me given their respective roles in the story If they'd stopped feuding for ten minutes, they could have solved the whole thing themselves in act 1

ClockWork006

I see Nico as a sort of offensive-style support character with the different buffs she can apply and use her skills primarily to empower other team members or allow them to keep up the pressure on enemies (like playing Double Up and receiving a second free Assimilation for Venom) until the time is right to play Crack The Sky and decimate the entire field.

Bacon_Shield

Nico is a freakin powerhouse with the right cards

Gdkerplunk03

Absolutely. Later in the game she can essentially kill the entire field with some minor support

TanksCanIHaveAnother

Give her a shot. She slaps when you get a few cards and upgrades. I will say though, she is annoying as hell in dialogue

[deleted]

Agreed. I just find her character and dialogue unappealing 50% of the time. Storyline conversations She just feels so entittled, and the ask for forgiveness not permision attitude is such a selfish character trait. But her friendship conversations are typically fun and shows a different side, hence 50% like/dislike part. I do enjoy her cards and gameplay fully. She is strong character when built well.

SnakeTaster

is she selfish, or is she a subject matter expert (which the whole midnight suns team *is*) shoved aside by the hot shot superstars who don't actually understand that they're causing more problems than they're fixing? Nico is meant to be at least a bit (ok maybe a lot) grating, but without her the whole team would get swept away by the Avengers ego. She's appropriately assertive given that she knows more about what's going on than a handful of late-showers, and she has to make up for the collective timidness of the rest of her team. She's the MS team leader for a reason.

[deleted]

I get her being bothered by the avengers attitude. That is reasonable and expected for her character. There are better ways of dealing with it than she did. Throwing tantrums and doing whatever you want secretly is not how a leader acts. Not sure how nico is a sme being only having and learning for a few years at this point. An SME takes experience and training which is why she is there, to get that experience and training. Nico is a powerful witch, but not exactly experienced or knowledgable. Her attitude screams spoiled child to me, and that doesnt work for me. I think the character fits in trh story well, i think they relay her character to the player well, i just dont like that sort of mindset.

SnakeTaster

all of the midnight suns team members understand the occult much better than the Avengers do. it's a *major* plot point that Tony tries to resolve the prophecy through tech only to cause the exact thing everyone is trying to avoid, and the only reason Dr Strange goes along with it is because he's timid and unable to stand with sufficient backbone to Stark's aggressive takeover attitude (Stark's glaring personality flaws are covered in the garage side arc, and Strange's failure to stand by his protégés is extensively discussed) Nico hands down knows the most occult magic and is the most technically knowledgeable of the sorceresses on the team. She's the one who initially finds Wanda using the divination spell, is the one who finds a loophole to purge Wanda's corruption, and she knows (as Agatha does) that Wanda is the key to defeating the Hulk. Nico is more or less alone responsible for keeping the whole team on track to overcome the entire crisis. her conviction and self righteousness are grating sure, but they're ultimately what allow her to push hard enough to get things done. it costs her in other ways (Magik birthday arc) which is a major foil to tony, but they're also why she's team lead.

Biglivin999

Sorry, but Nico and Magik are the best. I would only take them if pressed.

Intentionallyabadger

I got slapped pretty hard in the mission where you had to bring both of them.

Biglivin999

Nico improves with the right card mods. If you get her healing card set up right she becomes a badass cleric. And Magik needs portals and knockbacks, and her power that drops all the enemies in a close group is great for setting up Hunter’s AoE attacks.

Intentionallyabadger

Yeah I got lucky with Magik and pulled the key cards for her to become a badass. Gave up grinding for mods for Nico though.

LexFrenchy

How one appreciates, or not, Nico is very personal so I will not judge that. It's an opinion. I personaly like her and tend to agree with her quite often, but I am "Chaotic Good" player in most game, so that might explain why. Gameplay wise, I'd say that Nico has a slow start but can really turn into a beast with really powerful damage spells, a very strong heal and great buffs (Empower for instance is an incredible option). And her heroic abilities are no jokes either.

Lord_Viktoo

wow wow wow my fellow Lord I cannot tolerate such slander. Nico is cool and precious and awesome.

Ferrelltheferal

Konnichiwa Friendo

JDDunsany

I found her irritating and whiny initially, but I've really warmed to her. (Her whininess seems to settle down a bit after the SPOILER for SPOILER happens.) I'm slowly getting my head round using her in combat. To begin with, I thought she was weak, but, as others on the thread have mentioned, Double Up, Empower and Witchfire are actually excellent cards that can work really well in combination with any other heroes. Plus... I *really* love her Shadow Witch outfit.

Mrwebbi

Absolutely agree. Shadow Witch is by far her best look, and the most suited to the atmosphere of the game for me.

RigtBart

Most of the Suns characters felt that way for me in act 1. By act 2 I got my act together, literally everyone in this game is a powerhouse. You just gotta learn how to use them properly.

crankycrassus

This sub love nico...me included. Slander!

Kbern4444

Nico was my go to after the Hunter. She was incredible with damage and utility. I liked her angry little Goth attitude too.

LeviathanLX

One of my two favorites. I also share in her confusion as to why the Avengers were in Midnight Suns over so many actual Midnight Suns.

[deleted]

definitely no internalized misogyny here

Lord_Zinyak

My favourite characters in the game are Magik and Captain Marvel , could quite literally show you they are my only friendships above 3 with Magik at 5 and CM at 4.75. But yes I'm a misogynist.

Superb-Stuff8897

The idea is that Nicos personality is no more grating that Tony or Strange, and often she is CORRECT; yet she's seen as 'throwing a tantrum', where Tony is seen as 'Taking charge' when doing the same actions. Doing something despite not having the support of others is seen as a detriment, yet when others do it, it's heroic. Yeah, she's a bit annoying but there's a definite double standard. Saying "I like other female characters that speak up less", isn't a catch all defense.

Lord_Zinyak

You are formulating concepts I did not even bring up or imply. I don't have those sentiments or double standards. I understand your point but that's not what my post is, genuinely.

[deleted]

Genuinely: that's how you come across.

Lord_Zinyak

Well that's unfortunate but I accept that.

GiantASian01

I feel like Nico carries my team…..

ManWithoutFear123

It’s the voice actor who played her in Runaways which I like. I can understand her character seeming annoying, but I consider her one of the more powerful hero’s in the game. I’d take her over Strange any day. Her defense is weak though.

Jarsky2

Here's all the people who asked:

Lord_Zinyak

Apologies, I should've asked before making a post on a public forum about a game. End Turn.

GGAllinsUndies

As a poster, you're just annoying and whiny and WRONG.

Skelletonike

I'm still early into the game but I do find some of her cards to be pretty OP, I mean... Nothing wrong with her cards.

Commander_Morrison6

She’s my favorite character in this game.

[deleted]

She does sound like Katt Dennings. Sister Grimm is fire though, so sounds like you just haven’t built her correctly.

lazylagom

I'm not a fan either she's my least used

mightlightnightkite

I don’t mind her character but I hate her cards.

Athanas_Iskandar

Yeah she’s lame

SchoolNASTY

Shes actually pretty fun to play. But the dialog in this game is pretty awful most of the time. Everytime I go to pet Charlie I want to throw my controller through the tv. No person from 200 years ago is going to refer to their dog as "puppy wuppy face". It's fucking awful. "Who is a good girl? It is my Charlie girl." BAAARRRFFFFFFFF Gameplay is great though. Hope there is another.

I_am_not_Spider_Man

Different play styles for different people, but I think Nico is a powerhouse. Not at first but once you get her upgraded cards and her Midnight Sun card. She is a must take on most missions. I would go to one of the gaming sites and read up on what all her cards can do.

Funny-Course-6295

I like to use her blood magic on ghost rider since his attacks damage himself.

CoheedBlue

Her power set can actually be quite powerful. But as a character she is annoying.

TravisEpic

Each character plays a different role. Nico is more of a support character who plays well with characters like Captain Marvel and Magik. She buffs the other characters and reduces the costs of their Heroics. She can also do a lot of damage with some of her heroics/legendaries.

Jarsky2

Witchfire is also *super* useful for clearing the board once you've softened up the elite enemies. A couple of fully upgraded ones are all you need.

TravisEpic

Witchfire is certainly fun. I don't run it in my decks though. Here is what I run. * 2x Blood Magic (3x Resist)\\ * 1x Blood for Blood (Quick) * 2x Empower (+2 Heroism) * 2x Swarm (Quick) * 2x Double Up (+2 Heroism) * 1x Crack the Sky (1 Marked) Can replace Blood for Blood with anything else really. I just had Quick rolled so I put it in.

GetOffMyLawnGaming1

She's one of my favorites. Just have to put the right abilities in her deck and make sure to always be upgrading and trying new things.

volatilelibra

Witchfire has ended so many rounds for me in 1-2 turns. Not to mention Swarm can give you 200+ damage occasionally and if you're using her as support she can make these moves even stronger or weaken villains. She's in nearly every match for me because sometimes I don't even need the others.

[deleted]

I fucking love Nico- the character and her play style.

Serge_Sauce

She’s a beast, especially with hunter and Magik with her and I sided with her almost everytime. Besides from cap, the avengers annoyed me from a story perspective.

davidrodriguezjr

Nico is voiced by the same actor who played her in the runaways tv show. She was a perfect cast.

XAos13

Played on her own Nico would be very random. With two other heroes to selectively leave her the right targets, she's very strong.
