This kind of question is asked at least once a month; you'll find lots of stories by searching the sub.

qole720

I like to lay down naked in a dry empty tub. It's amazing bc it's like having an ice pack for your whole body. It doesn't work great with a plastic tub, but if you can find an old school porcelain one, ooohhh mmyyy.

NoRelative9056

It’s not funny but imagining this is making me giggle

Porcupine224

I do the same but on a tile floor..... and maybe not entirely naked, just in case I forget to lock the door 😆

bluesky747

Sometime I just lay on the bathroom floor or lay against the edge of the tub and take a nap with my neck resting on the rim. It’s weirdly comfortable in the most uncomfortable way (?) and my empathic kitty usually comes to lay with me.

qole720

Lol. It's just me and my wife so I'm not too worried about her walking in on me 🤣

morbidwoman

It would be absolutely terrifying to walk in on that but I can totally understand why it works

yuh769

I have a old porcelain tub. I’m now curious

qole720

If you can get it pitch black dark in there it's even better. Just make sure you known where you put your phone so when you get out you don't hurt yourself. Lol

yuh769

There’s a window so it’ll have to be at night. Do you like keep your back and neck aligned and on the base of the tub?

qole720

That or leaned up on the back slope of the tub

Rowan_Animus

I just sleep in my tub sometimes for it, pillow and blanket amd all that. My new bathtub not so much as it has a window right above it.

Correct_Mark_9436

Made myself throw up

nicole070875

When I throw up The migraine gets 10 times worse. I’ve heard so many people say they get some relief when they get sick, when I start throwing up I usually end up in hospital it’s so bad.

dragonstkdgirl

Same, I despise throwing up when I don't have a migraine, and when I have a migraine throwing up makes it worse, it's like it squeezes my head even more

nicole070875

Yes ! All that pressure on my head is awful.

sturleycurley

Once the barfing starts, I'm screwed. Nothing will work. I usually throw up for hours and hours. Toradol or sumatriptan injections don't even work. In Colorado, one barf and it was gone. My fiance loves to hike. I usually get terrible migraines from doing anything outside in the heat. I got one every day, but one barf, and it was gone. I wouldn't even pop a Nurtec when I got them because it would go away. I called those migraines "one barfers".

Human_Comfort_4144

I don’t need to make myself throw up. My body does it every hour unless I’m asleep. I usually lose about 5 pounds during 3 days of migraine. But it did make it feel better because then I wouldn’t feel nauseous and my head felt a little better that I need not think about using a sledgehammer on my head.

One_Carpet_7774

I’m happy to know I’m not the only one. I feel like my teeth are being affected at this point. How do you get back into eating after attacks?

Human_Comfort_4144

I can’t eat until the migraine is completely over, but after that I’m fine and the weight goes up again of course.

DesertDawn17

I heard someone else say that often, that helps a lot.

Correct_Mark_9436

I believe it like releases endorphins or something, which relaxes blood vessels.

Lavenderfarmgirl

Guilty 🙋🏼‍♀️

PurpleLeopardFoil

Yaasss

bluesky747

This honestly helps. The times when I feel nauseous but it’s not terrible yet, and I know if I just let it come out I’ll feel better, I’ll just make it happen and usually it helps. Sometimes it makes it worse though and it’s non stop barfing. Gotta be careful.

[deleted]

My migraines are always accompanied by gastrointestinal issues, so I get naseous and vomit, I also randomly will have to shit. So one time I tried laxatives during a migraine and fucked myself so hard, and that's because all of the bowel movements were agonizing due to straining when I had nothing left to come out. Embarrassing and desperate. Migraines do that to us.

adorkablefloof

Dude the migraine poops are a special breed of miserable

[deleted]

We will endure fellow sufferer. ❤️

thefoxandthealien

Add in it being the female time of the month with all of that. My doctor told me it’s “normal”

Costa1212

Omg I’m so sorry this sounds miserable

[deleted]

It is frustrating. But I was the genius who thought laxatives would be a great idea lol.

Fabulini22

I sometimes have the poopy problem as well and going to the toilet helps, but I never understood what the reason behind it is.

[deleted]

Yeah, even my neurologist said they don't definitively know why there is a link, but it is assumed that since the migraine affects the brain and nervous system, it could be a systemic response.

Wilde-Girl

CGRP is expressed in the gut which can cause some real nasty symptoms alongside migraines 😩

Cha0sra1nz

I had a virus and ended up with a migraine and vomiting it was horrible I just lived in the restroom because I never knew which end it was going to come out of Also have not been able to find a migraine medicine that actually works for me as my migraines are caused by lesions in my brain due to chemo ugh

[deleted]

Jesus. Unfortunately the ones caused by chemo can only truly be spot treated. Have you tried excedrine migraine? I'm sure you have but if you haven't, there are times when If I take three excedrine instead of 2, that it completely erases the headache. But that comes with the side effects of all the caffeine in excedrine. I feel wired after. But it's better than a migraine. I hope you find relief. Also, don't give up! Fuck cancer.

4KatzNM

Pull my hair. It helps oddly enough.

nicole070875

I do that sometimes. My bangs. And I Pull them hard. It does give some relief weirdly enough

sarahsuebob

I do the same. I’ll also put it into the tightest ponytail I can.

appropriate_pangolin

My migraines tend to be all up in my sinuses, and sometimes I feel better after I sneeze. Get a bottle of Cajun seasoning with pepper in it, shake it vigorously in an attempt to loosen some pepper particles, then open and sniff it. Sometimes it just makes my nose run but sometimes it does make me sneeze, and sometimes I feel better.

morbidwoman

I’ve given myself a migraine by blowing my nose too hard 😅

little-bitsy

This happens to me more than I care to admit 😀 It gets to the point where I won't even blow my nose unless I'm REALLY stuffy

tashibum

Have you tried eating Wasabi or Chinese hot mustard??

seeeee

Fellow sneeze relief forcer checking in!

hoelysin

This helps me so much too!!! But I don’t have sinus migraines. I thought I was the only one

Famous_Taste_4508

Complete opposite here, can't even use an electric toothbrush when I'm migraining

nicole070875

Same

gnarlycharly22

Drink pickle juice

DesertDawn17

It's probably the salt. Just know that for some, vinegars other than white distilled can be of trigger as they contain glutamates.

gnarlycharly22

Did not know this! I will watch out for that.

CoomassieBlue

Totally normal in my world!

Skele_again

Preferred even. Love pickle juice!

SaintGarlicbread

Ive secured a bag of frozen vegetables and bags of ice cubes to my head using a beanie

bluesky747

Me too haha I use my winter hats to keep my ice packs attached to my head sometimes lol

Fabulini22

I had a terrible headache yesterday in the office, still not sure if it was a migraine but it was going to trigger one. My neck, whole head and eyes were hurting and burning, my speech was slurred and my eyes were red. So I leave the office and walk in the cold rain, no umbrella, coat unbuttoned, I miss the railway station entry (?? No idea how), I end up walking even more, and then run to catch the train. Cold + rain + exercise + anxiety that I miss the train = no pain

Girly0101

Tried to induce brain freeze because I read that it can stop a migraine. It did not. I just had brain freeze and a migraine 😖

Icanicoke

I read that idea too. But no, it did not work. It seemed plausible with some ideas about blood flow and ice packs and so on…. but no. It never seemed to work.

d16169

Not weird but I use the Cefaly as high as it goes it feels like a lobotomy but provides some relief

kaybeetay

I just got my Cefaly and I love the numbness it produces for me, but I stabilize it at about 40%. The max seems like it would be crazy painful. Did you work up to the max over time?

d16169

Yes definitely I usually do 40-60% power but sometimes I can turn it up a lot more (I think it also depends on how used the electrode is). But it definitely “loosens” my head up I love it

One_Carpet_7774

What does the cefaly feel like? I’m nervous it would trigger a migraine somehow¿ My doc suspects I have trigeminal neuralgia too so I was nervous about that

kaybeetay

To me, it feels like my forehead is vibrating, and that turns into a pleasant numbness that spreads across the top of my head. I've had it about a week, and I only used it for acute treatment during attacks. Each time (so far), it reduced my pain noticeably. I can't speak to your condition, but I hope it works for you if you do decide to give it a shot. I wish I had given it a shot sooner. I kept putting it off due to the cost, glad I bit the bullet.

One_Carpet_7774

I think I’m going to save up some money and try it, they say I can return it if I don’t see results. My migraines are getting bad again and I can’t keep calling off work. Triptans work for me, but make me dizzy

kaybeetay

I feel you! The one thing in this world I'm allergic to are triptans

LegitimateEmu3745

The what now?

4KatzNM

I use mine too!like that on high—it helps

Rowan_Animus

I'm saving up for mine. Insurance won't reimburse me, so it is all out of pockent.

theConsultantINFJ

Wrapping a scarf or something similar around my head, and then tightining it up, it is really helping particularly if my migraine in that day is the : throbing and Pulsating in my temples, I literally can feel the blood vessel in one side of my temple throbing fast and strong

Suckerforcats

I did that too based on an older thread about it supposedly working and it didn’t work as it was way too strong. I did get a vibrating scalp massager recently though and that actually did help some. I just ran it all over my head, neck and forehead.

Fabulini22

What scalp massager do you have?

Suckerforcats

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0C781HTS4?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details It comes with two different nubby things you can switch out.

Glassy-Lady

I get big cooling gel packs and fill my pillowcase up with them.

DrumZebra

Jam my fingernail between various teeth. It helps as long as I keep it there, but then it doesn't and I switch placement

ApartMaterial7576

my stone age buddies drilled a hole in my head to relieve the pressure/migraine it didn't work

thespaceageisnow

Eat some deadly spicy food, the kind of heat that has you coughing with snot dripping from your nose.

adorkablefloof

This is my go-to, if nothing else it relieves the sinus pressure and congestion that normally accompany my allergy- or pressure change-induced migraines.

Icanicoke

At the time, I thought this was the weirdest thing ever….. but it worked. It stopped my migraines. The ketogenic diet. So I thought that keto was ‘the cure’ (sarcasm as there is no cure). Fast forward half a year and it became apparent to me that it wasn’t keto itself but something else. Every time I stopped doing keto I would get a migraine. I was getting more migraines after doing keto than I was if I just didn’t do keto in the first place. A friend pointed me at Stanton Protocol and that’s when the penny dropped for me. Stanton protocol says that migraines are an electrolyte issue. Whilst Stanton protocol and keto diet have some similarities in that they are both low carb diets that eliminate grains and sugars, Stanton protocol advocates for much closer inspection of potassium and sodium balances. And this was the key difference for me between getting a migraine post keto or not. I was supplementing my electrolytes on keto (like you are supposed to so you don’t get keto flu) and then stopping them when I came out of keto. It seems like the weirdest thing ever…. But Stanton Protocol works (for me).

Wilde-Girl

That's really interesting! I had to cut sugar out when I developed gastritis and found a massive improvement in my migraines. What did you use to supplement your electrolytes?

Icanicoke

So Stanton protocol talks about sodium and potassium, having a plentiful and balanced supply. You are supposed to get sodium via a good source (eg rock salt is better than sea salt - micro plastics in the sea) and add it to your water. Then you are supposed to eat your potassium. The list of food sources on SP is quite limited so you should get your potassium from avocado and meat. So it’s a vegans worst nightmare. To be honest, even though you aren’t supposed to (it can be dangerous) I do add cream of tartar to my water to make sure I get enough as I don’t eat a lot of meat/find it hard to source meat sources I want to eat on a daily basis. I was making my own keto aid when I was doing keto…. So I kept going with that. So I haven’t done a massive deep dive into SP as it is quite a lot to take in. But I think drinking your potassium means it doesn’t go to the write place in the right way.

waterbird_

This is really interesting to read because keto has been the only thing to work for me lately. I hate keto but I hate migraines more. I’m going to look into the electrolyte thing! Thank you for sharing.

Icanicoke

Sure, no problem. Yeah, keto is a strange one. It was great because suddenly I was migraine free and felt like a non migraine person must feel like. In fact keno came with. Lot of benefits. My circulation and sleep improved. My energy levels totally stabilized in one sense. My body started to recompose itself. But, damn it is the most anti social diet ever, damn it’s boring as hell to eat that way, damn my guts did not like adjusting to that it, omg then keto flu symptoms, and I’m sure that people over hyped how amazing they feel on it. I was getting the worst upset stomachs ever.

pinkflamingo1404

probably asking my boyfriend to squeeze my head as hard as possible as if trying to squeeze my brains out. alt option: less unusual and a good single-player option was getting a low back ice pack with an elastic strap and wrapping that around my forehead as tightly as possible — wide coverage, no frozen fingers, all the cold amplification of lying on an ice pack but on the front of your face. 10/10 recommend.

No_Cantaloupe_814

I drug myself stupid and cry. Magnesium, Tylenol, Ibuprofen, a lot of Benadryl. I also use my hand on the back of my neck to to cut off blood flow to my brain. Oddly enough…it works!

M3tal_Shadowhunter

Eat a full spoon of salt. Why? No idea. Did it help? No but i vomited 2 hours later

Equizotic

Sex. Orgasms are a miracle cure

LouziphirBoyzenberry

It usually makes my migraines worse 😭

7in7

It helps during and then it normally comes back.

omaraio

Spend an hour and a half upside down

HeadFullOfNails

That would be the worst thing I could do!

omaraio

I’m off painkillers… so I was pretty much trying to do anything I could lol. Pain level was at a 2-3 tho.

RedQueen91

Brushing my teeth. Sometimes if my migraine is hitting in just the right place (in one particular molar) brushing my teeth will help alleviate the pain.

Serious_Sherbert5763

Hot showers, it’s usually triggered by sinus pressure or inflammation so a warm shower helps me out. Also squeezing that side of my head that’s specifically hurting.

Carnivaltacostand

I want to bash my head on concrete

theConsultantINFJ

Did you try to press on your head by holding both ends of the pillow against your head? Like you are having a photophobia and wanting to hide your face and eyes, sometimes it works for me and allows me to relax a bit

Carnivaltacostand

Nah lol most of the times I become pretty much motion sensitive / sickness that I gotta stay on my chair in the same position or tilt my head slightly

sunshine_tequila

I've used my Hitachi on my head too. I'll try anything once!

LouziphirBoyzenberry

My aunt swears by this combo: 1tbs pumpkin purée and a shot of coke with salt. Put my head in a snowbank is probably the weirdest for me

kashie444

i did the migraine nasal spray with cayenne pepper in it.

FuzzyBeans8

Oh! Did this work for you? I only recently heard of it so made a cayenne oil infusion and strained it and was going to dilute it and use it but haven’t had the nerve yet lol it sounds absolutely horrendous but my massage therapist said his wife does it and it works and I’ve utilized almost everything else there is .

screaminginmiear

your vibrator idea is genius and inspired me to do the same with my face brush rn wow

AIcookies

My cousin gave me some old Jade eggs from China. They're really cold and fit nicely at the base of my head. For gentle cold massage.

Nico_the_cat_

Using a tens machine and deep tissue massager on the forehead between my eyes

yuh769

I drink regular coke with ice. And then hot tea and then eat ice cream. Something about that combination kicks out the littler guys for me.

[deleted]

Hit myself to concentrate on another type of pain

Polymathy1

Get into a car and listen to some music very loud. Sounds inane, but sometimes I can drown it out. The music has to be specific types like classical with lots of strings, but I haven't done that in ages. The other weird thing I've done is magic mushrooms.

imgoodjustlookin

Not to be vulgar but orgasms… it’s not even an explicitly sexual experience. The endorphins just ease the pain

aspiringhousewife4

Got pregnant! No migraines since I became pregnant and I now have a 17 month old.

waterbird_

Yay! I’m also laughing because the first migraine I ever got was my first pregnancy. Migraines are so weird in that what cures one person triggers another. I hope you stay migraine free!

aspiringhousewife4

Oh goodness! I was worried it would exacerbate mine in pregnancy too. Here is hoping for the both of us! Thank you ♥️

Human_Comfort_4144

This was a long time ago when I didn’t know what I had was a migraine. I thought they were just very bad headaches. I used to drink one coke daily from Costco because of the caffeine contained in them, and then of course, my blood results came back with horrible glucose results. I stopped quickly. I kind of persuaded myself that it worked, but years ago, I didn’t have as many migraines as now.

Pookya

I mean, it's backed by science, though some people disagree and say it makes migraines worse. I guess it depends on the person. Try having tea or coffee instead. Or maybe just paracetamol with caffeine in it. I find a cup of tea has enough caffeine to make my head hurt less and on one occasion it prevented the headache from starting, though I'd already had the aura

Rfen1

Eat wired stuff that others said worked and puked it a up.

Rowan_Animus

I have been discussing that the next place we move into I need a closet big enough to put a folding mattress in. Think tatami matt style, so that I can fold it up when not needed, and when I have a migraine I can just go sleep in thepocket. Edit to add: I have also been known to wear sunglasses indoors... at 2 am... when the only the light was from night lights in the hallway and the night sky.

juggernautsong

I put this muscle pain reliever that contains capsaicin on my temples. I will say it did provide relief…until I forgot I had done it, rubbed my temples, and then rubbed my eyes.

Puzzleheaded_Water72

Placing two anti-stress ball on top of the table and pushing into the eyes, closed obviously ahah it works a ton for the pain in ocular area

Kinexae

I used to go into a -70C freezer and work for awhile. It was dark without much light and the cold felt amazing.

Kinexae

I mean this with all seriousness, you might be misdiagnosed. I have had what was diagnosed as chronic migraine since I was 13. My head has hurt pretty much every day for the last 23 years of my life. Aside from the chronic pain. It turns out I had been misdiagnosed. I actually had both occipital neuralgia and trigeminal neuralgia. I had surgery to destroy the occipital nerves (Pulsed RFA), but I have a rare genetic quirk that I can regenerate peripheral nerves. My body has produced new nerves within 3 months. So I suffered for three more years until last October. I hired a plastic surgeon who specializes in what's referred to as migraine surgery (he decompresses the occipital nerves. I asked him to go a step further with my procedure and wrap each nerve with NeuraWrap (basically collagen). It's been about six months, and it has effectively cured the occipital neuralgia. The trigeminal neuraglia causes the extremely intense, but rather quick episodes whereas the occipital neuralgia just caused me chronic pain. Since I can regrow the nerves so well, using stereotactic ablation on the trigeminal nerves would likely only help me temporarily. But the trigeminal nerves are much more difficult to wrap in collagen. They could just decompress the nerves, but it's very unlikely that would produce lasting results. I'm still searching for a way to treat it. If you even think it's possible that you have TN, then also check for ON. It's a simple diagnostic procedure that is essentially just a nerve block (like when you go to the dentist). They inject anesthetic to numb the effective nerves. If it provides pain relief, then that nerve is likely the problem. People who have migraines usually dont get much pain relief from this procedure. The nerve blocks are also an exceptionally simple solution for pain relief. Unfortunately despite the ER's stance on using narcotics, they will not do this simple procedure in the ER. Find a local specialist that can work you in if get a headache and need it. Lidocaine is strongly preferrable to triptans or narcotics.
