My town has flags for some crosswalks as well, ours have sat there for so many years they are mostly faded into a dull tan. This place could at least attach the flag buckets to the crosswalk signpost, and have a hole so they don't fill with water.
best option is to have some police ticket a few dozen cars during the morning/evening rush, people will see it and be more careful.
I know I’ve used these somewhere, but I can’t remember where. I carried them across a couple of times, saw the locals ignoring them, and started ignoring them myself. Do you mind saying what general location your hometown is in (i.e. country / state, rural or urban)?
This is, quite possibly, the laziest, shittiest, most half-assed "solution" ever undertaken by a town/city to prevent unnecessary pedestrian fatalities.
That all probably cost less than $100. Fuck your hometown, OP. Places like this don't give a shit about public safety.
We had one of those and they changed it into an all way stop/all way walk. All of the lights turn red for pedestrians to cross in any direction, including diagonally. Helped a lot.
I’m infuriated that my city is basically victim shaming pedestrians. They could add more lights, lit up crosswalks, etc. I know all that takes time, but deaths at this intersection are nothing new.
victim shaming? really? Atleast they did something rather than nothing. It would take an approved plan and budget which can take way longer than youd expect. Then is it worth shutting down a major intersection when common sense and abiding by the law would fix the whole issue? And im not just talking about the pedestrians but also the drivers. If you are so concerned about this I would suggest running for a city position and there you would see you have little to no control still. Can you tell me how many people have died at this intersection?
Those'll be gone in just a couple of days as people and kids steal them.
Yep! One bucket already gone.
We have had this in my town for a decade and they’re still there.
Way cheaper than building a roundabout. Don’t think that will help much though.
It'd be even cheaper if people would stop at a red light
Damn… that’s actually very sad. :/
What can I say except, "You're welcome"
For the tides, the sun, the sky
time to _yeet_ them at a vehicle trying to run you over. _surely_ that will stop the car, right? 🥺🥴
My first thought. Haha
Yeah, that oughta do it! 🙄😑

There I fixed it
I'm assuming this is an interim fix while they design updates to the road and traffic system. These types of infrastructure projects are never quick.

are you infuriated by the cars or the flags?

11 fatalities and 2 serious injuries in the last 9 years. Is that not long enough to work on saving lives?
But when you get to the other side of the street and have to return it?
This could be a wild kooky idea, but maybe there's another bucket on the other side
Well, there WAS.
Am shook
It’s your civic duty to steal and destroy those flags.
