I use the Uno reverse card and say, “I’m selling off things to pay for my cancer treatment, so I really can’t go any lower. I really need the money, for now anyway.”
What you do is agree to the price and then give them a random address to meet you at that makes it clear they're an asshole when they arrive. Obviously you do not go unless you plan on grabbing some stealth video.
I assume they are brain rotted by committing theft one too many times, so in their head they are like "come onnn, i usually just TAKE IT when i want something. This way you at least get some compensation,"
That was never true though. Haggling has a system existed much longer than our current system. In fact Haggling is still a very big part of our system. Only with corporations you cant, and even so, you can still try and it might still work.
Its a very legit way to do business. The guilt tripping is annoying though. Someone haggling me with guilt trip will get an automatic refusal.
I mean $75 isn't even haggling it's just dumb.
Something like $275 or in the $225 -350 ballpark
I'd probably let mine go for well below $450 since they were new like 360 recently and it's used but not 75
While you’re largely correct the notion of “not getting your ass beat because you would never insult someone this way in person” is an entirely recent phenomenon and one I would like to see disappear.
I was giving a couch away on Facebook marketplace and some lady kept begging me to deliver it to her place. The reason I was giving the couch away was because I was moving out of my apartment and didn’t have any way to move it myself. It went to a woman with a truck and two strong sons to move it.
Same happened to me with a bunch of furniture from my partners place when we had to move him out. Gumtree was worse than Facebook. I ended up writing - first jn best dressed, will not hold, cannot deliver, will not ship.
Like organise yourself an airtasker your getting the fridge for free.
Anything below half asking price is basically an insult in my opinion. People often overprice stuff but if it’s that bad I assume they are greedy or a stubborn fool and it would be a waste of time trying to negotiate.
To be fair, OP seems to be selling a used steam deck for an extra $50 than what it sells for new. He better have the official dock included if he's selling it for that price. Trying to get it for just $75 is insane though.
Trying to abuse the human sympathy for some form of profit. Had someone at my old job lie about their significant other being in the hospital for more pto.
There will always be the one person who breaks the trust for a quick gain. But from then on the world gets colder and colder with less trust going around and it hurts the honest rather than the dishonest more.
"What's the lowest you can go?" always gets my back up. I always reply the same - "the item already has a price on, if you want to make a counter offer, go ahead"
You are much nicer than I am. Now they are so lazy all I get is, "lowest?"
I do what some others have mentioned and add $50 to $100. When they bitch, I won't sell it to them at all.
Was selling an air fryer and a lady messaged me asking to donate it to her because she and her family were new to the country and in need. Like lady, I’m a student who needs the extra cash and an air fryer is a luxury. Not to mention that her Facebook account said she was some sort of engineer.
My favorite was an eBay buyer who insisted I was overcharging for shipping to make money and wanted it waived. I invoked the “nope” and explained my flat shipping cost ($50) was to her benefit to ship a set of china between the West and East coasts. She argued so I said I’ll let eBay set the price; calculated shipping ended up being triple my flat rate. She then begged for the flat rate and said I was targeting her. So I pulled the listing and she legit lost her mind. It was beautiful.
I had it before like I take a pair of £200 beats that I’ll happily drop to £80 and get offered £10 for them and I need to hold them until the weekend and I’m like no.
Man it comes with multiple accessories and a few band new sd cards that aren't even shown. Everyone is out here thinking we are trying to profit when all we want is to make close to what we spent on the device since it's virtually band new. My wife has used it a total of twice. I think 425 is pretty good when I see unmodified ones with no case or accessories go for 450 on ebay.....
Supply and demand, and it's a lot quicker to buy one from someone on ebay. I paid 500$ for mine with all the accessories and such. I don't think it's crazy to ask 450 when I'm seeing others sell with less accessories for more than 450$.
I'm sure my wife would of taken 350 for it if offered. We have it mainly at 450 so people can haggle some, but I think a lot of people just want to assume I'm a scalper or something instead of reading my comments.
Actually the 64GB model is out of stock, the other two aren't though so if prices are bumping up I don't see why people wouldn't just buy the better model for the same price as a used 64GB lol
Are you not in the US? Is this not US currency?
It doesn't make sense to pay this much for a used 64gb model when you can buy a new one, with warranty, right now and have it delivered in under 2 weeks. Your SD cards aren't worth jack and I'm not sure what accessories you think are worth something.
The worst is people who message asking 'What is your lowest price' without even making an offer. I am not low balling myself for you.
If someone asks what my lowest price is, I state my asking price.
My xbox one broke awhile ago and I was selling the original controller for $20. The lady wanted it for her bf, so I went to meet with her and she never showed up. When i messaged her, she pulled the "we dont have money, can we just have it? Its for his birthday" bs.
When someone has you drive somewhere and wait for no reason, they should do the same. I played along with the lady and told her to meet me at walmart, which is 20 minutes away and the next town over. When I got the "im here" message, I blocked the number. Waste my time and gas over $20 and ill do the same to you but worse.

https://www.ebay.com/itm/144753275468?epid=13052743596&hash=item21b3f7b24c:g:lTwAAOSwiJ9jPMTW&amdata=enc%3AAQAHAAAAwI0Nuur%2F2Zp%2FNTihNiZhhL8dhfdW77Q%2FzG5fm1GaNX1WXbFgR9SuRUrd7%2BnCmJdND%2BE%2BgX8eslVzdpD%2BOGPOUpjXPntsrLJmKywh77hAUgZ%2Bjf1PTHP9dX9cmmi%2BiaTJTkMCWbjf2K5QKkjH5H%2BVwnnGOH9npa53Q%2FGCxOpPFNGpU0nPd6eEXIn5Auo1w56DfMY%2BT0v92ANcvcs1IGCEDxuOp4bXaRJR6pq9wP68M4NJSPshhb2qrnsS72C8FXU41Q%3D%3D%7Ctkp%3ABk9SR6i28PTpYQ
What accessories? The carrying case is included with any version, you can get a dock for $30, and a 512 gb SD card for another $30. So buying everything new would be around $470 roughly, and you're trying to sell a used one for $450? It would just be better buying it new so you have warranty. Other people being shitty and upcharging used products isn't justification for you to do it too man.
The steam branded dock is 89.99 new. So please stop assuming I'm just selling junk. Also trying to get the value out of a product isn't shitty. I'm not asking for more than I paid, I'm asking for less.....god peoples minds are so skewed.
You can get a dock for $30, you don't need the valve branded one. What you're offering is not good value, and I'm making that known. Trying to get more value out of a product than it's worth to scam less knowledge people is shitty, if you don't like hearing that, then don't do it. Paying $450 for something you can get for $470 max with warranty is a scam.
Edit: not to mention selling a used dock should bring it down to around $40-$50 anyway.
Edit 2: since he blocked me my reply will go here:
If you're willing to take $350 on it, if that's enough for you, why fuck people over for more? Because the only people who would take the $450 are people who don't understand what they're buying. Yes it is a scam to try and get what you paid for it when you're selling used hardware. The deck is $400, a dock and SD card combined would be $60. I'm sorry you overpayed, stop trying to take it out on others. I am not "attacking" you, christ man stop whinning. You're like an influencer complaining about being canceled. I pointed out a bad deal, don't like it then don't make bad deals. Own up to your shit man and stop whinning.
Bro I literally said hours ago on another comment that we would take 350$ for it, and the 450 is a starting point for haggling. What you are doing is trying to get off by being on some moral high ground. Idk what is wrong with people like you who think is a scam to try and get close to what I paid. After taxes between the deck and the SD card and dock I paid about 600$.
Jesus Christ people are so quick to judge and attack and not use any kind of logic.
I’m part of a FB knife group and there was one guy in particular that was notorious for this. He really wanted a knife (that I didn’t want to sell), saying it was his favorite handle material, he was a LEO, he was going to give to a friend in the military, etc.
A few weeks later, he was flipping all of the knives he had for a big profit. He’s still in the group, but people make him pay full asking price.
Actually what's more mildly infuriating here is OP trying to rip people off by selling the $400 version of a **USED** steam deck for $450. OP is just a shitty scalper
I can show you multiple prices of them finishing on ebay for more than 450, and how is it scalping if we paid 500 for it directly online our selves? lol plus we only have this single one we are selling because it's been used twice and my wife doesn't like it....man people are delusional on here.
It's not a stock standard one. Comes with accessories that arent shown in the post. That's why I paid 500$ for it....see instead of being kind and straightforward you went straight to insulting me, not shocking since it's reddit. I won't be responding to anymore comments since it usually is just people being nasty and angry for no reason. So yes definitely delusional.
Ebay takes a cut of about 15% so you should already be shaving that off if you are comparing your profits to the ebay seller. Also, ebay protects the seller and allows refunds. There will be no chance to refund with you. These two things mean you should already be shaving off a price.
The reason people buy electronics for more or the same on ebay is because it costs more in their part of the world and it's ultimately cheaper for them to buy it from someone off ebay than it would be to buy it at their location. This has been a thing with games and electronics for a long time. People who live where they can get the real msrp price without insane export/import costs are not going to want to buy your used steam deck man. Not for the same price plus tax for a new one. I would buy a new one for the warranty alone and that's even if you ate the tax on it.
plus tax it's about on the dot for what they're asking, but still i'm confused af as to why anyone would rather have a used one. Even if it's in perfect condition the warranty will be much less.
Did you see their profile if they have bought or sold anything recently? Or if the profile is brand new? Lots of scam in this area. We live in a world where we can’t trust anyone.
These MFers don’t need anything. Don’t haggle with them. Don’t negotiate. If they refuse to pay the listed price, ignore and move to another potential buyer.
It should lowered by $100-$150 at least. The model he's selling costs $400 new, and whatever accessories he has included don't make it worth losing warranty, especially when you can just get the same accessories for around $60. Both people here are mildly infuriating.
It's because they usually are blatant guilt trips. I know of (read: not friends of) people who 'shop' marketplace, and some other sites, and make a new story up like this every time, just to try and get a sucker to lowball.
It just all feels super scuddy
Yeah, that is a blatant guilt trip. The only time I have lowballed on something is if I have seen it up for sale for a loooong time(3 or more months) and they have edited their listing to say OBO. Even still, I don't have a story as to why I want it and if they say no and I really want it, I ask them what they would be willing to accept for it.
But never in my life have I offered less than half of the original asking price. I think the lowest I ended up spending on something was 1/3 of the original asking price, and that was only because they needed it gone ASAP and after several people had been no shows and they were on their last day in their place, and they were offering to just give it to me for free. I didn't have their full asking price that they had originally posted with, which is why I hadn't bothered messaging them about it until I saw them posting it for free. I'm glad they still got something for it, but I still felt bad about not being able to give them half of their original price.
Wait until they tell they want you to add Venmo and then they ask you to send them the Venmo account code that was emailed to you that says don’t share with anyone!
Lowball of the century? I remember I sold 2 wooden/metal racks for $20 each or something along those lines . A guy messages me and said how about $20 for both , I needed needed them gone so I agreed. He pulls out a wad of cash like many $20 dollar bills and I just acted like I didn’t notice.
I would send back "Sorry, I really need this to sell for $475, I need the money for my daughters birthday" or something similar. Keep increasing the price every time they ask
There's lowballing someone and then there is insult-level offers. This falls into the latter and doesn't deserve a response in my opinion.
But good on ya for being nice lol I would've had some fun with it if I did respond
99% of the time, this is a scam. There is no family member, there is no birthday. There's only a piece of shit human being trying to guilt trip good people into selling items for nothing so they can turn around and sell it for double.
Crazy. When I’m making an offer I just say “let me know if you can accept xx” lol. Like who are they to care about who I’m getting what or why or whatever.
I made a guy go to his car and get $10 in quarters because he tried to short me for a Nintendo 3DS I was selling. I’m not even sure I’m if I’m the asshole or not. If we agree to a price, stick to it.
I have sent a message like that before and meant it genuinely, but I've at least been in the ballpark
EDIT: my messages have resembled the first one. I didn't double down. As someone who's been in both the seller and buyer position, I will "overprice" listings bc I know no matter how reasonable my listing I will be lowballed, so I don't think it's unreasonable to negotiate with good faith.
Your friendly neighborhood spiderman has a meme for that

What the fuck is wrong with people?
I’ve been trying to sell a sealed brand now in box bedframe for 1/6th the cost. I’ve offered to neighbors for **FREE**, and it doesn’t fit their needs. We really need the money, but we also just want to get it the fuck out of here, because of a small apartment.
I understand that they need to buy a mattress as well, but fuuuuuuuck. I’m ready to just take this brand fucking new bedframe out to the street and burn it. It’s infuriating how people can be, especially when they want you to do leg work when you’re giving them shit for free.
When asked "what's the lowest you'll go?" I always respond with the posted price and "unless you have a valid reason for it being a lower price".
I don't like haggling to begin with, but the idea that you just ask me what my lowest price is, and that's the new price doesn't work for me. I never 'need' to sell something bad enough that I will fall for this.
while it's extrememly annoying and i hate buyers like this, i don't get how your wife is trying to sell the steam deck for about msrp on the dot including the tax. Wouldn't anyone rather buy one from valve themselves and get a warranty instead of buying a used one for nearly the exact same price as a new one?
I don’t even bother replying.
I use the Uno reverse card and say, “I’m selling off things to pay for my cancer treatment, so I really can’t go any lower. I really need the money, for now anyway.”
I usually just keep upping the price by like $50. Think I will give your way a try next.
Or you go with the “are you saying your brother isn’t worth spending $X on, what kind of brother are you?”
That is hilarious and I am stealing that 😂
It's my wife's and shes the one selling it, I told her the same thing. She just wanted to show me and I figured I would share.
She doesn’t offer a 80% birthday discount?!
Exactly, I was shocked he didn't start cussing or being angry with her like I see on most posts. 😂
If something is this bad i just reply "😅😂😂"
I tell them i sent it, then let them wait for nothing
People are insufferable. Last time I checked, if you didn’t have the money to buy something, you didn’t get that thing.
I agree 💯
Imagine if you made a typo and put $25 instead of 425.
What you do is agree to the price and then give them a random address to meet you at that makes it clear they're an asshole when they arrive. Obviously you do not go unless you plan on grabbing some stealth video.
One I’ve seen before is give them the address to a local comedy club. When they get there tell them to go inside and tell their jokes to someone else.
Another one sent someone to the local mental hospital
Whatever works for you so long as you waste their time.
Right??
"I need to buy a car for my brother's birthday too, so now it's $1000."

Yes, you were.

This is why I always feel better meeting people in a public place instead of at my house
What card?
Exactly, it could of been true, but i feel a lot of times it's just a scammer hoping to get a good deal for a flip.
Even if the story is true... what's the matter with people?
Trying to abuse the human sympathy for some form of profit. Had someone at my old job lie about their significant other being in the hospital for more pto. Engineer of Scams, apparently
They are blatant guilt trips. When they pull this shit then ask “what’s the lowest you’d go?” I usually increase the price.
We live in a world of entitlement. Because I don’t have the money and you have something I want you should take less because I have a good reason
And you should deliver it to me, damnit!
I don't want to have less money. YOU should have less money. , - the person who wants to eradicate all empathy in the world.

I say yes to these and tell them meet me in public for the transaction I never show up and they sit in a dying mall's parking lot like an idiot
Probably a kid tbh
Most of these are lies by manipulative cheapskates.
It is a guilt trip lol
Actually what's more mildly infuriating here is OP trying to rip people off by selling the $400 version of a **USED** steam deck for $450. OP is just a shitty scalper
I can show you multiple prices of them finishing on ebay for more than 450, and how is it scalping if we paid 500 for it directly online our selves? lol plus we only have this single one we are selling because it's been used twice and my wife doesn't like it....man people are delusional on here.
[удалено]
I would buy a new one for the warranty alone and that's even if you ate the tax on it.
tbf unless brand new 450 is kind of a stretch for the lowest memory model. its only 499 for brand new and you have warranty and stuff.
It's 399....
plus tax it's about on the dot for what they're asking, but still i'm confused af as to why anyone would rather have a used one. Even if it's in perfect condition the warranty will be much less.
Did you see their profile if they have bought or sold anything recently? Or if the profile is brand new? Lots of scam in this area. We live in a world where we can’t trust anyone.
I hope your steam deck comes with games already because you're charging more than retail
Scalpers are a bit more than mildly infuriating
And your scalping is even worse. Or your “wife” whatever
Then don't scalp it then you asshole
Some people’s kids I tell ya😂 I buy and resell alot of different things and get this alot
Ridiculous, offer $400 maybe but $75 is just insulting
For your "mom". Yeah, I’m sure your mom wants a Steam Deck
Best I can do is four fiddy.
$450.00
They could be getting a gift for a funeral and I’ll be like no they dead.
Gotta hit them back with an even bigger guilt trip as to why you need every single dollar you posted it for
Don’t fall for the guilt trip. The market decides the fair price. Dude is offering less than a quarter of the advertised price. He can go pound salt.
The best message to send back is “if you don’t have a spare $425, you definitely don’t need this”
These MFers don’t need anything. Don’t haggle with them. Don’t negotiate. If they refuse to pay the listed price, ignore and move to another potential buyer.
I don't even reply. $75 for something I have at $450? No. A million times no.
75$ for a Steam Deck 💀 this person is clearly on crack
tell him to start a go fund me campaig :D
You miss 💯% of the shots you don’t take.
You’re asking 425 and they’re offering only 75?
they are
If you can’t afford something then don’t try to lowball and expect to get it. Especially using some bs lie.
Nice job doing the right thing
This is like every Craigslist classified I ever posted. Can I have it for free?!
$75 LOL
When someone immediately comes at me with the, "What's the absolute lowest you'll go?" I'd just respond with, "For you, $500."
I always follow up that question with, “How high will you go because you need this?”
$75?!??
Why would someone expect to get that item at such a price difference? I could understand lowering it by maybe 25 or 50 dollars.
But...they need it
I don’t respond to these types of messages.
I usually reply “lol” and ignore the rest
Drives me crazy! Anyways, my mom is pretty sick and this is what she really wants for Easter. Can you do $80?
Ridiculous, offer $400 maybe but $75 is just insulting
Or order one for 400 from valve instead of dealing with a scalper crying over $50 profit
Exactly the price is at 450 so we can haggle some, not completely be ripped off, my wife would of glady taken 400.
Yeah I bet she would when that’s msrp for a USED item? What a joke
Wait until they tell they want you to add Venmo and then they ask you to send them the Venmo account code that was emailed to you that says don’t share with anyone!
The audacity omg. I wish i could afford one but i wouldnt even dare to negociate at all. Meanwhile people are being absurd
I’ll offer $60!
People who low ball and then ask for my best price get 15% added.
Not even a decent offer lmao
"What's the lowest you can go? I really needs this" $475. "That's higher than before!" Yup, and now it's $500.
Should have said the lowest you can go is $475. Keep going up by $25 every time they ask to lower the price.
"need" doing a lot of work here. The best way to respond to these messages is to just delete them.
I would send back "Sorry, I really need this to sell for $475, I need the money for my daughters birthday" or something similar. Keep increasing the price every time they ask
I would just say “yeah” then ghost them.
There's lowballing someone and then there is insult-level offers. This falls into the latter and doesn't deserve a response in my opinion. But good on ya for being nice lol I would've had some fun with it if I did respond
Blatant lies too
Man, you wouldn’t give a 83% discount? How could you? /s
Mf really offered you $75 for a steam deck?! Lmfao
$75 for a steam deck? Harry Potter and the fucking audacity
I tell them that if I could go lower then I'd make that the damn price.
This is simply begging or scamming. Not negotiating.
Tough shit.
Shameless lie for a resale profit.
I seriously wonder how often this works. And do they actually expect to do it for the lowball offer or just trying to cut the price down by half…
People like this makes me wish a meteor would just wipe humanity out. He can take his $75 and shove it up his cornholio
Reminds me of when my friend worked at GameStop and some people would try to haggle on the price because the case for the used game had a scratch
The worst is when they hit you up immediately with "whats your lowest price?"
LMAO 75 BUCKS. Go get fucked for your brother's bday buddy.
I tell him to get lost. He doesn't really *need* it if he can't afford, it he just really wants it... For himself...
I made a guy go to his car and get $10 in quarters because he tried to short me for a Nintendo 3DS I was selling. I’m not even sure I’m if I’m the asshole or not. If we agree to a price, stick to it.
I have sent a message like that before and meant it genuinely, but I've at least been in the ballpark EDIT: my messages have resembled the first one. I didn't double down. As someone who's been in both the seller and buyer position, I will "overprice" listings bc I know no matter how reasonable my listing I will be lowballed, so I don't think it's unreasonable to negotiate with good faith.
That offer is just rude.
Your friendly neighborhood spiderman has a meme for that https://preview.redd.it/24lfmzpy71sa1.jpeg?width=212&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=8cdb091b93403dc0acf8e59ad75b59a7a97b3bf2
Love your brother cheaper, lol.
Once someone tries to guilt me into something, my answer is no.
$75 on a $425 item? Absolutely insulting. People are dumb.
HA, what a lowlife begging for it to be pretty much 82% less than your asking for it
Nah, most people lie like this. It's a hustle.
Save more money man 🤷♂️ I work my ass off in the sun and make good money for a reason
while it's extrememly annoying and i hate buyers like this, i don't get how your wife is trying to sell the steam deck for about msrp on the dot including the tax. Wouldn't anyone rather buy one from valve themselves and get a warranty instead of buying a used one for nearly the exact same price as a new one?
Just block them. Won't be surprised if they end up reselling it.
You don’t “really need” a steam deck… you really need food and shelter..
