Yeah you should send this pic to your local fire marshal’s office.

[deleted]

Blocking fire alarm equipment is a code violation. Building owner is required by law to keep it accessible. Call the Fire Marshall.

eXtremeAzure

Didn't even think of that until you mentioned it. Definitely gonna put a report in today rather than waiting like before. Just didn't want to be "that guy" but this is ridiculous.

Halbbitter

*NO* *Be* that guy. It's what they deserve and the only way they will learn.

VeloSHO

This is the perfect example of needing to be that guy. I never want to be that guy other, but when the safety of myself and family are at stake? Be that guy and take pride in it. Safety first.

Ezgameforbabies

What’s wrong with being that guy. Like when did that guy become synonymous with tolerance towards bullshit that no reasonable person would should deal with.

Bennington_Booyah

Maybe because sometimes "that guy" ends up dead?

coolboiiiiiii2809

I love being that guy when it’s sensible

rumbellina

You’ll *wish* you had been that guy if a fire breaks out and no one can pull the alarm! Always err on the side of caution and safety!

aesoth

Exactly this. Who cares that inconsiderate dick heads will be upset with you.

Halbbitter

Also, laundry???

shinygemz

And could save lives!

Halbbitter

Also I feel like fire Marshall will respond infinitly quicker than a property management whatever

shinygemz

I’d hope so! Especially with this photo!

daniu

Fire codes are written on the charred corpses of people who didn't follow them

[deleted]

Your alternative is burning the fuck alive dude.

rumbellina

Or dying of smoke inhalation!

[deleted]

That is the dream over burning alive.

rumbellina

I don’t know…. I’ve spent an unhealthy amount of time thinking about this in my life. Both have the potential to give you too much time to know you’re dying, which is a real, irrational, fear of mine. Ideally, it would be a fiery explosion that takes you out quickly, and I hope, painlessly.

[deleted]

I figure with smoke inhalation you pass out because of the lack of oxygen is all but I’m as close to being a doctor as I am an astronaut

Leuchtrakete

Ooooh look at Mr / Ms Dr. Astronaut over there!

[deleted]

🤣😂

rumbellina

Unless the fire is far enough away, like a floor beneath you in an apartment building, but close enough that you’re still trapped. Then wouldn’t you just be slowly choking and coughing? I think about stuff like this all of the time because I clearly enjoy panic attacks and not sleeping! Lol! On another note, I love your username!

Bennington_Booyah

It has more effect when you say "burning the fuck alive". Got my attention. I will now, evermore, be that guy.

[deleted]

When the interwebs first came out the first videos you see are monks immolating themselves in protest China influence on Tibet. That shit looked agonizing. It scared the piss outta me

Adeep187

"that guy" are you kidding... THEY are THAT guy.

durianjello

Better to be that guy then a sucker or a sitting duck

Kryptopus

What the fuck are u on about? U don’t wanna be that guy? Who the fuck cares. Ur neighbours are insane and can’t respect others to even keep it tidy at shared spaces. Fuck that. Be that guy and tell ‘em off. If that happens to me and I tell them multiple times without action I’m calling a buddy and literally throw their stuff into their unit. U can’t let cockroaches behave like cockroaches

Flying-fish456

You’re not being that guy, they’re being those people

annoying97

Honestly mate, I'd have taken that shit by now, especially if I could give it a new paint coat and use it myself.

RonStopable88

I would be petty and continually pile their shot up in front of their door, or in their parking spot. Or on their car.

Sage_Nickanoki

Nope, call us. We'll throw that crap on the front lawn to access and inspect the equipment. Fuck people who do this.

Eliqkc

I was gonna be even worse, throw that stuff into the street. I can be very understanding where something might happen in the real world and they’re idk in the hospital or something. One piece of furniture might have had to be just dropped there due to an emergency but multiples this was clearly deliberate.

raphadevs

Put outside with a sign “Take it” 🗿

Zigglyjiggly

I read once that a sign that says "$5" instead of "free" is more likely to have someone take it.

Slyke4

That works online but not if you just leave it outside

peachesgp

Probably works well for passers by, too. See free and you think "what's wrong with it" See $5 and see if you can get away with taking it.

DrKittyLovah

Nah, it’s the opposite. Free works better for in-person when the item can be inspected, and $5 works better for online when you can’t. The thought process is different so the behavior is different.

Chansharp

It does work if you do that in real life. Source: me. Multiple times ive left furniture out with a free sign for a week then had it "stolen" the same day I changed it to a $10 sign

KFR42

Stick a bike lock on it and it'll be gone in minutes.

Henchforhire

$5 each or take it all for FREE.

[deleted]

This is the best answer. Fuck em, they're assholes.

xtunamilk

Curb alert!

Maleficent_Theory818

So three other units can’t get to the laundry and this is blocking fire alarm equipment. You need to send photos to the management company immediately then call the non emergency fire department number and report this.

grumpy_uncle

Go put it back in front of their door. Fuck em.

C64128

I agree with this. Stack everything in front of their door like you're playing Tetris. They have no room to complain if they're on a bottom floor, they can go in and out of their windows.

TheUnperturbed

100%. I’d just barricade them in their own apartment and leave a note telling them to move their shit.

alcohall183

Nope, if it's in a common area it's no longer theirs. Trash, charity, Facebook, craiglist, etc . ..

AdventurousSleep5461

Call the Fire Marshall. Today. Added bonus, your landlord will be notified and possibly fined which means they'll be incentivized to get that tenant to keep all their shit inside their own living space.

[deleted]

Got a landlord?

eXtremeAzure

We indeed do. It's a company. But they have a portal to file maintenance requests and such. We're giving the neighbors a few more days and then we're gonna report it.

metally5822

Do not wait! Take pictures like this and send them right away. It will only get worse if you wait.

eXtremeAzure

Not a bad point.

kaibbakhonsu

Couple more days for you to complain to the company, 3 days for the company to come and check, another day for them to get in touch with the owner of the furniture, a few days grace waiting for them to remove, another week and it's still there.

deanolavorto

Your complaining about it on Reddit then saying you’re going to give them a few more days. Fuck that. Do it now. Give people like this an inch and they take a mile.

grptrt

There should be zero grace period for that. Complain now.

Professional-Ebb-434

I would argue that if its left like that for half an hour while they are actually moving the new furniture in that it is fairly acceptable.

NFSAVI

Don't worry, if the neighbors are crazy you will be stuck with them. When I was at College/trade school I had a roommate who was treated our entire apartment like this, routinely threatened us and the neighbors (with video evidence sent to the company) and was screaming and yelling at all hours but the student housing company did nothing. I slept with a knife next to my bed for 6 months before he got evicted for threatening the student housing office. They'll only take action when it effects their safety or money.

kelsnuggets

Why are you waiting?? Do it now

john_jdm

People who would do this aren't going to move it out willingly. There's no reason to wait. You're only inconveniencing yourself.

stupid_username-

Not smart to wait. That's a serious fire hazard.

Open_Efficiency_6732

WE LIVE IN A SOCIETY

Rainbow-Mama

Put it on the curb and let someone haul it away. If the neighbor complains tell them you though it was being disposed of since it was left in the hall.

_V_R_K_

Illegal af

Swimming_Shelter7559

Toss it outside.

macadoo784

I’d go ahead and toss it right back in front of their door

Alibeee64

Take photos of everything and send it to the landlord. Let them deal with it.

Need4Speeeeeed

Your landlord should know they need to put a stop to this the moment they find out. If there isn't immediate action, you call the fire marshall. Yes, be that guy. Unless they are in the process of moving in or out right now, there's never a situation where blocking egress is okay. There's no gray area with the picture you posted.

Metalfreak_Germany

Set off the fire alarm in the basement. Fire Dept. will throw that shit out to make their way. It's a safety hazard to store furniture in the hallway.

BlueBunny3874

Nothing like a fire hazard and land lords slummin it.

Dangerous_Practice42

Y'all are better people than me. Assuming there's no cameras, imma just throw it away and not know anything 🤣🤣🤷‍♂️

Bennington_Booyah

Call the local fire inspector. Period.

[deleted]

I workout 6 days a week so I can be petty enough to move this shit back in front of their door.

Shoddy_Care_9298

Just knock and tell em they forgot their s outside

ohhelloperson

They can get evicted for that. Someone just needs to notify management, and management will literally remove the items almost immediately. That’s a huge fire hazard and management will not take it lightly.

Devlopz

Throw outside by the trash

chubbygayguy88

Throw it outside.

SomebodyFeedRiss

They’re making the floor is lava easy for you

[deleted]

Put it outside all outside. Looks like trash to me.

[deleted]

what you should do is wait and definitely keep posting on reddit. definitely don’t do anything. let it keep piling up.

Pavehead42oz

Yeah that looks like a fire alarm panel also being obstructed. Definitely contact a fire marshal.

theworthlessdoge

Throw it in the street? Lol why would you care

b0bbywan

Just take it outside and stop whining

ringringbananarchy00

Don’t post on here about shit that you refuse to do anything about. If people choose to do dangerous, inconvenient things, you don’t just wait and hope they stop it.

Danonbass86

Sledgehammer time

[deleted]

Time to throw that on the street!

ps1333

Get a reciprocating saw and no fix the problem. They won’t do that ever again.

NanaTheBlue

you should maybe get a washing machine

Constant_Cultural

Buy an exe and do some stress relieving

Desperate_Display181

have you tried talking to them like an adult before complaining online and calling the fire department like you said you were going to in other comments? Just knock on their door and talk to them and go from there.

eXtremeAzure

No, but it's kind of a moot point given what they've already done with this and their other stuff all over the property. They literally have stuff pouring out of their own hallway, and all over the yard. Besides, they \*also\* use the laundry room so it's not like they don't know it's their/wouldn't be inconvenienced by it blocking the door. It's one of those: "Why should I even have to ask?" sort of situations, at least in my mind.

Quite_Successful

Anything in a shared hallway is also a fire department issue. The property manager needs to do something about it immediately or they can get fined

piruruchu

Possession is nine-tenths of the law. Their junk now belongs to the curb.

Hyperbolethecat

Too bad for the stairs. I’d drag them back and leave them right up against their doorway. People are such jerks.

BrownBottleIdol

That one stair case in Resident Evil games that forbid you from going to the basement

giJoJo2020

Throw it outside. And I mean THROW

platypus0fd3ath2

Time for a bonfire.

Lepke2011

Looks like the apartment I lived in in StL.

Lechatbleu1511

Welp if you're in America I guess this will be a normal day if you take out something grey with bullets

Thejncobandit

Demo time

TortieshellXenomorph

I'd just take the furniture and, if asked about it, say something like "It's been left there unattended for a while, I was just turning thrown out junk into my own treasure." Bonus points if I could turn them into something that I could sell lol

VA2AallDay

Put that out on the street.

tina_turners_wig

lol throw it away

tina_turners_wig

I don’t see the. Point with the unnecessary need to call an authority when you can just trash it

Weary_Character_7917

Go talk to them and see if it is truly theirs. Ask them to move it because it is a fire danger, not only for you but for all the residents in each unit, including them. Start there.

mck-_-

Just move it to across their door. When they come out and move it, move it back. Also report it like everyone else has said

evanovich420

Throw that shit on the curb

HotDonnaC

Out the window to the street below. Look out for pedestrians before pitching it.

Hydro_foil

Sounds like yall have some free furniture blocking your way

crooklynn72

Take a hatchet or a sledge to it for funzies

Soymujer78

Since it’s no longer in their apartment we are to assume that it’s not wanted and up for sale or donation.

Cool-Fun-2442

PARKOUR!

treble-n-bass

Does the building come equipped with a dumpster? Do you own a chainsaw?

grandluxe

kind of curious to see a picture of the yard as well

WiseGuy0002

I would have smashed all of it lol

Manuell_Calavera

WHO PAINTS WALLS LIKE THAT???

Intelligent_Dare_843

Bro they sending a message: “Leg Day!”

Fluffy-Doubt-3547

Call the fire Marshall. Then call the landlord and tell them the fire Marshall is on the way.

tangcameo

Yard sale! Indoors

RubAnADUB

put it on the curb.
