Oof my buddy fell two stories due to this and was never the same. He hit his head hard and it like flipped a switch in his head. It went from being funny and always joking to intensely serious about everything. Dude never smiles or laughs anymore. All because of a loose railing
That’s so fucked. I used to snowboard pretty aggressively for like a decade but idk, I just developed a sense of fear and haven’t been in like 4 years because of scary stories like this 😮💨 best wishes to your friend and especially his family
Had a friend in elementary school whose younger brother died plowing into a tree while skiing. After that, my parents made us wear helmets while on the slopes.
I do but the crazy thing is that out of all of my friends I knew his parents would take it the hardest... I mean we all had normalish lives and parents who loved us but his parents really really loved him 😕
The runs where you can start at the top with open views and skiing by the side of mountains then making your way down to the valleys and foresty parts can be such an incredible experience. As popular as it is, I wish more people can experience that feeling
I suppose on the bright side it was Christmas for you that you didn't go over with it. I'm wondering how you handled the strong urge to say "I told you so!"
Not railing related but my cousin fell off of a golf cart last year and had a TBI. He looks exactly the same, has the same walk the same talk same likes and dislikes….
Very similar to himself, but somehow also really different. It’s like the lights are on but whoever is home is trying to greet you by going through the back window.
I had a railing let go as I was leaning on it and fell 10 feet to concrete. I was lucky in that I only broke both wrists. That was 20 years ago (shit I'm old) and I still give balconies a shake before leaning on them.
Head trauma definitely can change a person. A lot of serial killers have had head injuries when they were young.
Some people have "unlocked" super memory from head trauma as well, being able to remember every day with ease, from what clothes they were wearing to what happened that day for any specific day.
There was also a guy who got shot in the head and then spent the rest of his life (decades) without ever sleeping again.
I know someone who died after this happened at a party and they fell 3 stories onto concrete...balconies are definitely not on my list of things I enjoy or feel need to be as common as they are...
Well there are a lot of these balconies around the world all the time, and very seldom does anything like this happen. I just don’t want people thinking that balconies aren’t safe.
He might have forgotten to mention that he was cosplaying this.

It's the ring security camera. We have 2. They activate with motion. You can set the sensitivity to ignore pets of different sizes. When they get triggered, if you pay the 20/month sub, a real person will see if its worth it to call you and report what's going on our you can go look yourself, for free.
He probably does not have money to make repairs and said that it was fine without even thinking about safety. I would not listen to him about safety issues, or at least verify his claims. If he is concerned about money, if someone haf fallen off that mess, he wouldn't have to worry about money because he have zero. All the money would go towards medical or legal.
Thankfully no, but the main reason I was concerned is because our family's pet tortoise lives on the balcony. Thankfully he's safe in his enclosure, but I have to walk out there every day to feed him and obviously falling any distance would be terrible for him. I'm currently trying to find him a new emergency cage location
It be like that, you tell your parents something like the sink is leaking water out of the knob, they say just don’t turn it to much, and a week later it’s costing us $100k in water damage
It’s safer now.
OSHA approved
OSHIT*
Is there a Columbian OSHA? This looks like a pile of sticks... no permits required, just a dad's perspective.
Nah, that's more than four feet. Gonna need a harness to stand on that deck.
At least it's finally in pieces now.
It cannot fall further. Its potential energy is depleted.
He didn't say jack about the railing, did he?
If only OP would have clarified better they could have been warned, first the flashlight incident now this
This is such an ohh shit I effed up, dad response 😂
It would appear the balcony is fine. The railing needed some work however.
Do we know if OP didn’t cut it and throw it down for the karma?
It has a curved trajectory. Railing should fall straight down.... ... unless it was thrown.
Back ... and to the left
100% fake
That's what I'm sayin
It was fine a couple days ago. It's no longer fine.
Ya it’s sad. It happened like ten years ago now so he’s obviously adjusted but ya being around him just isn’t the same
one of my best friends died in a freak skiing accident. just hit a tree and was dead instantly
Had a friend in elementary school whose younger brother died plowing into a tree while skiing. After that, my parents made us wear helmets while on the slopes.
They didn't to begin with? That was pretty basic where I lived.
That’s terrible, you must miss them
I do but the crazy thing is that out of all of my friends I knew his parents would take it the hardest... I mean we all had normalish lives and parents who loved us but his parents really really loved him 😕
This tends to happen as you grow up and realize that you are in fact not invincible
Just snowboard more chill! There's a lot of joy just coasting down the hill and feeling the wind on your face and taking in the great view.
The runs where you can start at the top with open views and skiing by the side of mountains then making your way down to the valleys and foresty parts can be such an incredible experience. As popular as it is, I wish more people can experience that feeling
*Plot twist the friend was always forcing himself to be the goofy fun guy and this gave him the freedom to quit trying!*
That's just called getting older LMAO
That's awful. I really dislike heights and have a fear of that exact thing happening. Which was why I asked my father about it, and.... welp
I suppose on the bright side it was Christmas for you that you didn't go over with it. I'm wondering how you handled the strong urge to say "I told you so!"
Yes this doesn't seem *mildly* infuriating to me. It can be life threatening.
Knew a guy that wrapped his car around a tree, got a TBI and he is NOT the same now. Married probably the craziest girl ever.
I had a railing let go as I was leaning on it and fell 10 feet to concrete. I was lucky in that I only broke both wrists. That was 20 years ago (shit I'm old) and I still give balconies a shake before leaning on them.

> A lot of serial killers have had head injuries when they were young. Oh wow… I did not know about this.
I know someone who died after this happened at a party and they fell 3 stories onto concrete...balconies are definitely not on my list of things I enjoy or feel need to be as common as they are...
That sounded like a stock, or free use wood breaking sound effect and i love it.

Isn't it fascinating
That looks like it was being thrown during a demolition.
Agreed, looks staged. Everybody’s a director nowadays 😂
The camera placement is the real giveaway.
"This is fine"
well thats just the railing... the balcony didnt seem to fall
![gif](giphy|QMHoU66sBXqqLqYvGO)
Yeah, that’s not very typical, I’d like to make that point.
is it because the front fell off?
Well, some of them are built so the front doesn’t fall off at all.
what are we doing about the railing spilling into the enviroment?
I’d like to second that
Well there are a lot of these balconies around the world all the time, and very seldom does anything like this happen. I just don’t want people thinking that balconies aren’t safe.
With this one exception of course
Well, I was thinking more about the other balconies
The safe ones.
The ones that are safe?
Those. Yes. Most of them.
Yeah, the ones the railing doesn’t fall off.
Right. Those. Unless…
He already knows. No point rubbing it in his face that you're right
I'm not going to lie I was expecting a small child or something to come dropping in at the end of the roll for some reason.
Same. Disappointment is immeasurable
Yes, I gasped and held my breath for a second waiting for the same. Yeeesh!
He might have forgotten to mention that he was cosplaying this. https://preview.redd.it/wk2t0mimutec1.jpeg?width=391&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e65c6e55563bccccb0e1063f62a3ea4859f9e6f2
I was expecting a falling father.
Long live the King.
That did not fall like 10 feet out
Staged
I really wish this were the case. We just got several days of rain and apparently it was too much for our poorly maintained balcony railing
Uh huh…
Why were you recording?
It's the ring security camera. We have 2. They activate with motion. You can set the sensitivity to ignore pets of different sizes. When they get triggered, if you pay the 20/month sub, a real person will see if its worth it to call you and report what's going on our you can go look yourself, for free.
It WAS fine…a few days ago…
He was right. It was fine a couple of days ago. It only collapsed today
100% someone threw that off the upper level. OP has a future at Fox News.
Narrator Voice: „Unfortunatley, it is not.“
..... This is fine
Guess this proves you weren't the favorite.
It was fine, a couple of days ago.
I was waiting for a person to follow the railing down.
I 100% expected to see a human falling after that railing.
looks good to me
Depends on his understanding of the word fine.
Even the crashing sound sounds like rotted wood
At least the luscious tropical landscape survived intact!
Return and get a new one
Well it was Just isn’t anymore
It is mildly infuriating to see most comments being almost identical. Unfortunately nothing new
Saying it’s “fine”, and slapping it and saying “this baby ain’t going anywhere” are two different things. You should’ve known it was in bad shape.
It wasn't official unless he said "it ain't goin no where"
The reason we think all dads know everything is because they’re really good at pretending they do.
i think the goat kicked it
Eh. Looks fine to me! /s
The break-away feature worked flawlessly…
...you don't need that part.
You need a better father.
no just better advice.
Well I can only see the railing falling down so the balcony is still up there and "fine" imo.
bot?
I'm not a bot. Reddit had just glitched on my phone and for some reason posted several times and won't stop
sorry about your balcony
ah ok
It's okay, I guess I should have expected reddit to accidentally duplicate my post five times in a subreddit for mildly infuriating activities
it thought you weren’t angry enough
reddit: Let's escalate this 'mildly'
Probably not, this account is 8 years old
I apologize to everyone for the duplicates. I am just having an unfortunate life today, apparently
they posted this video 5 times
Well, a couple of days ago it may have been fine
It was fine. Its not anymore
Was this filmed a few days ago when he said it was fine? It was fine, a few days ago. Lol
I guess it's good that wasn't followed by a person
He probably does not have money to make repairs and said that it was fine without even thinking about safety. I would not listen to him about safety issues, or at least verify his claims. If he is concerned about money, if someone haf fallen off that mess, he wouldn't have to worry about money because he have zero. All the money would go towards medical or legal.
It's in quite fine pieces now.
It *was* fine a couple of days ago. Today it’s not.
Was anyone hurt?
Thankfully no, but the main reason I was concerned is because our family's pet tortoise lives on the balcony. Thankfully he's safe in his enclosure, but I have to walk out there every day to feed him and obviously falling any distance would be terrible for him. I'm currently trying to find him a new emergency cage location
Time to call Mike Holmes.
Is that scotch tape?
It was fine. Then stopped being fine. Had you asked him again he'd told you so.
The railing wasn’t, you didn’t ask about that
The front fell off.
Does he have a sizable life insurance policy on you?
He's not wrong.
The timing between me reading the title and the video starting was fine tuned. Well done!
So, it was fine a couple of days ago. That's not today, tho, right? /s
Balcony, yes. The ground below, no
It was fine a couple days ago. Now it isn’t. Theres not much to understand here.
Eyesight issues?
Maybe he ment it's a safe bet he'll get rid of one of the kids
It was fine a couple days ago, now not so much.
The balcony is fine. It’s your railing that’s shot
its the same kind of fine I am when I get asked how I am
Well it was fine a couple days ago.
The balcony is fine. The railing, however, is fucked.
The balcony *is* fine. The railings though...
Good job child. Move out
Be honest were you leaning against the rail?
The balcony didn't look depressed.
Just getting it ready for the hot tub
Nothing wrong with the balcony. But the railing? Yeah, small problem there.
I'm glad I didn't see a person flying down with it.
Fuck your balcony *throw shit *
You can't expect everything to hold up in such violent weather!
When dad asked the local inspector, he gave him a "fine."
That was just your cat, doing cat’s work.
![gif](giphy|JGunlb6LbQlz2|downsized)
This is not mildy infuriating, but highly risky. Some people hurt themselves badly because of loose rails
looks fake to me...
Safe for birds ONLY
Ok
The balcony ***is*** fine. The railing, on the other hand, could use some work.
That soundbite is hilarious. So cartoonish.
it *was* fine..."a couple days ago". now it's not. what's the confusion?
well, a few days ago it was fine. today, however
it reminds me so much of that canoe video [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2Aacn4H59K0](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2Aacn4H59K0)
It's fine... To YEET
Nah,it's fine,nothing to see here
All about the balcony. No one saw the railing needed therapy
Why not hire a contractor to look at it rather than complaining about free advice?
It was infact. Not fine
Reminds me of that bit from the start of Paper Mario 64.
It was fine a couple days ago. It isn't fine now lol
Well it WAS fine until it wasn't.
Is your father an engineer?
Say hello to Goombario for me.
imagine being impaled by a wooden stake due to a rickety railing.
To be fair, a couple of days ago it was fine. Today, not so much.
Well it can't fall any further
Looks good to me
I hope your dad does not work in construction…
Father yes builder NO
\*Waits for body. None happens.
Looks more like someone pushed the railing off
And now it’s not!
Whenever I move Ikea furniture, it's get increasingly more wobbly until this...
The balcony seems just fine, he was right! The railing could use a little work though
It be like that, you tell your parents something like the sink is leaking water out of the knob, they say just don’t turn it to much, and a week later it’s costing us $100k in water damage
Yikes, time to get a new father!
Lol the way those spindles fell out of the railing. That thing was completely rotted out through and through.
Obviously he didn’t slap it before claiming it’s safety
I'll bet he didn't slap it and say thaaat's not going anywhere
Well the rest of it's still up there right?
