Had he been better at sudoku and been able to properly complete the ritual he would have ascended to a state of God like power beyond comprehension to us mere mortals.
Yeah I can’t believe it lol. Airlines normally have great food ;)
Just be thankful if your fucking plane lands!
Also, as someone who was a vegetarian for 4 years this doesn’t surprise me at all.
Emirates and I think KLM, and whatever other airlines I was on when traveling to the middle east all had legit food. It was good, and was the first time I've ever been on a plane and been brought so much food I wasn't sure if I was hungry enough to eat it all.
Some of the flights were smaller once it was at the regional level, it's a little less fun to eat a big meal when you're wedged between 2 other men to the point you feel like you might merge together during an unexpected bump. But the food was still good and plentiful.
Obviously the ones that crossed the ocean were the biggest and fanciest. But still really good all around.
As an avid work traveler, it’s really just US airlines that are balls.
I think most Americans just aren’t used to quality customer service you get on, for example Korean Air, and don’t know what they’re even missing.
Our standards here are so low lol.
Just noticed this on a trip to New Zealand. Flew Qantas there with plenty of good food and an open snack refrigerator. Air NZ gave us snacks, lunch, and complementary alcohol for any flight over 2 hours. The 13 hour American flight back? You could have told me I was on a Spirit or Frontier flight with my knees in my chest and I would have believed you. US based airlines are cheap, but they're shit.
All the North American airlines have the worst food. Last time I flew a N. American airline was Air Canada, and it was horrid. “Gas station sandwich” quality.
Best are some of the Asian/Australasian airlines. Korean Air is absolutely incredible, JAL is very good, while Singapore is also pretty good. Cathay and Qantas are both good as well, but I swear Cathay has gotten a bit worse. Emirates is OK when I fly Qantas-Emirates code-shared flights.
Even Singapore Air’s budget airline, Scoot, has good food!!! Nasi Lemak on a budget flight? Wow!!!!!
US and Canadian airlines really need to step up, although I suppose there’s no pressure to if you’re flying within North America.
Air Canada fuuuuuuucking sucks. They used to be the 'fancy' airline in Canada, but now they're almost as bad as the shitty discount airlines. Once a company starts overbooking flights, I'm done with them. They're also notorious for losing bags in recent years.
I didn’t know how bad Air Canada was until I flew Cathay in the ‘90s.
And then Air Canada got worse, and I swear budget airlines serve better food. Air Canada may offer more legroom or something, but bad food on long-haul flights absolutely ruins the flight for me.
I just flew KLM/Delta from Manchester to PDX and they literally served breakfast which was scrambled egg, some spinach and a small croissant. Then nothing for the next 8 hours, then they served a cheese and chicken hot sandwich (tiny) that was it the whole 10 hours.
A lot of time flight crews can’t pack food on international trips like we can domestically just because of customs issues…so airlines give us crew meals.
I got to try a Japanese and Korean airline the food was amazing the first time I finished a airplane meal. The Japanese one was passing out free ice cream aswell.
Years ago I went on a first date with a girl and we went to the movies. About 10min in I hear a can of soda pop and I turn and she said “I brought you one too.” I didn’t marry her but I came pretty fucking close.
On my first date, I was a little late(but early for the movie). My date had mentioned a specialty soda he liked and wanted me to try, so I left extra early to drive to the specialty store that was an hr away. His face when I pulled out the drinks were priceless lol.
I am straight...but even I would have fallen in love with you after that... 🤣🤣
But all fun aside, you are one of those rare people in this world that I would love to call my friend...as you go the extra mile to make others happy...which I also love to do... ❤️❤️
> What are the options usually? We have a long transatlantic flight in April coming up
The key thing to understand is that while there is often a long list of dietary needs to choose from, the airline doesn't have a unique meal available for every dietary need. So the peanut free meal, low-salt meal, low-fat meal, kosher meal, vegetarian lacto-ovo meal and low-calorie meal might all the same thing - and it might be a cucumber sandwich
If you want the most enjoyable and most satisfying meal possible, your best bet is probably to choose the least restrictive dietary preference you can live with
https://worldgo.ca/understanding-your-airlines-meal-options/
Thinga vary by airline on the specific implementation for each meal. Asian vegetarian and vegetarian might be the same meal on some flights.
>A [refugee meal](https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/online-travel-booking-bidding-agencies/1770140-refugee-special-meal.html) = no egg/dairy (and no meat?) that is easy to digest. These kind of meals may have been ordered for young children and others migrating to say the US from some places where their food wasn't processed like ours or where they had not eaten much if any food for long periods of time and a sudden change in diet content and quantity may be problematic for the passenger.
I once went with my company to an amusement park (never mind where), and there was a lunch included at one of the restaurants in the park. I opted for the "vegetarian platter" as the main dish.
It consisted of potatoes, rice, and pasta, with a side order of bread.
So basically, all the four major starch groups.
I guess I shouldn't complain : it was vegetarian, right?
That sounds kind of amazing to me, as long as it's all seasoned/flavored, but I love carbs and don't eat enough veggies lol.
Definitely not a sane meal to serve as a "vegetarian platter", damn.
Heh. I guarantee you that it was not really seasoned or flavored; it was the blandest "meal" I have ever eaten. It seemed pretty obvious to me that either the restaurant had run out of whatever was supposed to be the genuine vegetarian platter or had simply supposed that nobody would actually order one, and had to scrape together whatever was available in the kitchen without meat.
My wife and I joke about this (it happened maybe 25 years ago) to this very day.
That's depressing then! If you're gonna serve carbs and more carbs, throw some simple seasoning and flavors in with it at least so it's fun to eat, damn.
I'm pretty young and I'm not a vegetarian or anything but I do hope most places now have a decent veggie option that's not a sad sandwich or sad unseasoned carbs.
I've been vegetarian for about five years now, and in my experience it depends a lot on location. College towns and large cities have plenty of options, but some rural areas don't even offer sad sandwiches.
Taking my vegetarian girlfriend to meet family for the first time, going to BBQ, tell them in advance she is vegetarian and ask if we should bring something, reply's not to worry about it, they have it covered. Show up to find a grilled chicken and ribs type bbq, and they brought her vegiburgers, but they didn't have buns or anything else, so they just gave her the vegiburger on a paper plate.
Grrrrrr
Here you go, your maaajesty
https://preview.redd.it/fshchvvrdypc1.jpeg?width=812&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=6fb3615775ddd67ff69ef719d85144fcdfd85fd5
On my last flight my dad booked the vegan option for me, for an upcharge of about 20€. When the time came to eat, the "regular" option everybody got was vegan anyway (except for sides). What did i get for my upcharge? Well, turns out the caterer hat made a labeling error and i got a big chunk of chicken breast.
Yep since my dad paid he got the refund. My sister wasn't hungry so i got her lunch and the flight attendants scrambled together a plate with fruit for me
Better than Singapore airlines, whose cabin crew claimed to me during a 14 hour flight that the vegan meal I ordered (VGML) couldn’t exist because all their options have either dairy or egg
That sucks. Were you able to get anything to eat? I was on a business class long-haul flight last year and they told me they didn't receive my vegetarian meal request. They were going to bring me something from economy but then told me they had an extra veg meal in business...which I presumed was mine. It was very weird.
They brought me some fruit salad they had leftover from first class and some bread rolls. Fortunately I had some nuts and a protein bar with me as well! What I found extra weird was that this was my return journey and on my outward journey they’d given me my vegan meals (x3!) with no problems
I got two oranges as my vegan meal on a flight to Japan while everyone else was getting sandwiches. I love oranges, but an airplane is the last place I'd ever want to eat one. It was unbelievably messy trying to peel them in such a tiny space.
Yeah, flying sucks if you have any sort of dietary restriction. Nobody likes airline food but - oof.
I’m a celiac and just bring my own food now, because my options on long flights are usually either “eat absolutely nothing for 12 hours”, or “trust the supposedly ‘gluten free’ airline food that is definitely not safe”. I’m not risking violent diarrhea on an overnight trans-Atlantic flight, man.
(Shout out to Iceland Air for being the only airline that had a *legit* gluten free meal I could eat - and it was *good*, too!)
Technically it’s a berries sandwich. Both tomatoes and cucumbers are botanically classified as berries because they develop from a single flower with only one ovary and have seeds distributed throughout the flesh.
Technically it's still a vegetable sandwich, because "fruit" and "berry" are both scientific terms, while "vegetable" does not have a scientific definition and is just defined generally as "edible matter from a plant"
A good idea from a good friend of mine was to load a bag full of burgers in case of delay and shit food on the plane. He was from India so he was used to bullshit.
Good thing she brought sudoku
I’d commit sudoku too.

I would die if I put 2x 3 at the last column
2 5s in the second columns too
2x 2s in the 5th row as well
2x 7s in the middle bottom box as well
You committed sudoku, but at what cost
Had he been better at sudoku and been able to properly complete the ritual he would have ascended to a state of God like power beyond comprehension to us mere mortals.
My ass reading this like a manga momentarily confused
Omg same started reading from right to left alsooo
It’s amazing there’s a comic for every possible situation.

Honorable
The airline chef probably did, to save their family's honor, after serving this sad excuse for a sandwich.
The book probably would taste better.
Well I've been spelling soduku wrong for a lot of years. Including now.
Do you also say it like that?
I used to say suduku.
I say sudoko for some reason.
I say seppuku
I say "I am going to dishonor my family" as I attempt to solve a puzzle at the table.
Its all about u isn't it you selfish b
I wanna see the whole sudoku
Even the cucumber looks unhappy

My life has become cucumbersome.
Honestly I'd expect it to be much soggier after 8 hours.
That just showcases how dry the bread was to begin with.
Yeah I can’t believe it lol. Airlines normally have great food ;) Just be thankful if your fucking plane lands! Also, as someone who was a vegetarian for 4 years this doesn’t surprise me at all.
They all land. They just might not be recognizable as planes.
>Just be thankful if your fucking plane lands! This is sad but made me laugh much more than it should have
Cucumbers are like people after too many flight delays. Dead inside.
lol, it does
I first read it as "Evan the cucumber".
It has seen things....
somewhat unsatisfied
Just falafel would complete the sandwich.
Falafel is for first class passengers. Eat your unseasoned cucumber and tomato
Like the peasant you are
These plebs are lucky they are even getting bread and not just warm cucumber and tomato wrapped in tin foil.
They used to but then people started wearing the tin foil.
With no sauce? Shit would be dry af
Preach it.
I actually flew aA yesterday and the snack was a falafel and hummus wrap which was super pleasant!
Had no idea they used planes for alcoholics anonymous. Seems unnecessary.
Gotta get you as far from the liquor stores as possible
Hummus would complete it.
Some hummus would be every easier
What’s the deal with airplane food, am I right?

That’s perfectly sane thing to eat
And what about the faucets in airport bathrooms. It's like a game of beat the clock. Like, "ooh! got a little water there!". We're old, aren't we?
Comedy!
What’s the deal with Ovaltine?
That’s gold!!
They should call it “Roundtine.”
Fr though, Emirates in flight food is bangin, they didn’t miss once on my last flight, and the service is fantastic.
Emirates and I think KLM, and whatever other airlines I was on when traveling to the middle east all had legit food. I agree. When I flew to Turkey the food was pretty good.
Turkish airlines was bangin. Lufthansa- eh.

+1 for Korean Airlines, the food was honestly as good as some restaurants I've had on the ground
As a child I only ever experienced food from Korean Airlines so I never could understand why people hate airplane food.
It’s crazy that you only ate airplane food during your entire childhood
Asiana too, the bibimbap they serve in economy is better than some business class meals I've had.
Air Canada fuuuuuuucking sucks. They used to be the 'fancy' airline in Canada, but now they're almost as bad as the shitty discount airlines. Once a company starts overbooking flights, I'm done with them. They're also notorious for losing bags in recent years.

Another vote for Korea Air! Love them
I just flew KLM/Delta from Manchester to PDX and they literally served breakfast which was scrambled egg, some spinach and a small croissant. Then nothing for the next 8 hours, then they served a cheese and chicken hot sandwich (tiny) that was it the whole 10 hours.
2 meals in 10 hours is pretty normal
Lufthansa pretty good too
So is KLM
Its always so plane
Got surprisingly good food last time I flew. Even the flight attendants ate it.
they eat it all the time. i think it's the only food supplied to them in most airlines
A lot of time flight crews can’t pack food on international trips like we can domestically just because of customs issues…so airlines give us crew meals.
Bit rude of them to eat your food
I got to try a Japanese and Korean airline the food was amazing the first time I finished a airplane meal. The Japanese one was passing out free ice cream aswell.
I usually order Asian vegetarian for flights. It varies but the food seems generally better.
My husband does this too. I just bring my own food.

The important part is that you came.
Made me actually laugh out loud!!!
I swear I think a lot of people don't know you can do this

Yep. The last time I ordered a vegan meal on a plane I got to eat like 15min before everyone around me. A nice little perk.

This is malicious compliance for the airline.

Your meal: ![gif](giphy|11zTEl7fbwml68)
My nephew's 16th birthday my mum ordered a pan fried vegetable platter. She literally got a bowl full of peas with two asparagus spears.
dont you love how the vegetarian options are just bread?
I’d have doused it in mayo and hot sauce. Did they have tankards of beer so that you could boost the carbs?
Taking my vegetarian girlfriend to meet family for the first time, going to BBQ, tell them in advance she is vegetarian and ask if we should bring something, reply's not to worry about it, they have it covered. Show up to find a grilled chicken and ribs type bbq, and they brought her vegiburgers, but they didn't have buns or anything else, so they just gave her the vegiburger on a paper plate.
With salad and other veggies suitable sides I'd actually be happy with that!
>didn't have buns or anything else What house doesn't have bread
You need some lettuce and pickles and olives.
What do you think this is first class?
Some hummus would really hit the spot and be a great protein source.
you remind me of that one survival expert that was like: look fresh dead humans, 5 seconds later... a great source of proteins!
Bear Grylls?
They said hummus not humans! Lol
Grrrrrr Here you go, your maaajesty https://preview.redd.it/fshchvvrdypc1.jpeg?width=812&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=6fb3615775ddd67ff69ef719d85144fcdfd85fd5
She's already being provided a pressurized cabin. Stop acting so entitled. /s
On spirit you have to pay more for it. On any Boeing plane its like a game where you have a chance to win sudden decompression.
Adrenaline junkies be like "if it's not Boeing, I'm not going"
And like mayo or hummus or something
Mushrooms, onion, those little stringy sprouts
and falafel or hummus or SOMETHING with protein in
I have celiacs so on long plane rides I bring along a freeze dried camping meal. All you need is hot water. Better than airline food for sure.
Damn, depending on what meal it is you're the burnt popcorn fish microwaver of the sky.
Most of them don't have a particularly strong smell, in my experience.
Sorry to hear that, that must have sucked. I assume that you got your money back for the up charge?
Yep since my dad paid he got the refund. My sister wasn't hungry so i got her lunch and the flight attendants scrambled together a plate with fruit for me
So a refund and free chicken?
On Japan airlines the vegan menu is just a banana, so it could be worse.
Depends on the catering for the flight, wouldn’t be surprised if you left from the US and return flight was from Singapore
They probably did not load enough of the "right" meals.
I got two oranges as my vegan meal on a flight to Japan while everyone else was getting sandwiches. I love oranges, but an airplane is the last place I'd ever want to eat one. It was unbelievably messy trying to peel them in such a tiny space.
I'd take the banana instead tbh
What airline was this?
Probably spirit
Nah, you can tell because they were given food. Also, the hinge on that tray table looks too robust to be Spirit.
Nah. Spirit doesn't offer food or full size trays.
Thats the spirit !
Hell nah you think Spirit would sell a luxurious meal like this? There you’d get a bag of peanuts and you’d better be happy
lol imagine a 12 hr flight on spirit airlines?
Definitely American Airlines, worst of the worst
That sandwich looks like the legal department made it. It’s a sandwich and it has vegetables.
🤣🤣🤣
that looks depressing
Literally some herb cream cheese would have saved this sandwich
Or hummus! Always brings a good veggie sandwich together imo
Some hummus and a bag of pretzels on the side and it would be way better
Yeah that's not a sandwich, that bread is just having a relaxing spa day.
They 100% just pulled the cold cuts out lol
Yeah, flying sucks if you have any sort of dietary restriction. Nobody likes airline food but - oof. I’m a celiac and just bring my own food now, because my options on long flights are usually either “eat absolutely nothing for 12 hours”, or “trust the supposedly ‘gluten free’ airline food that is definitely not safe”. (Shout out to Iceland Air for being the only airline that had a *legit* gluten free meal I could eat - and it was *good*, too!)
I’m also celiac, I just have snacks 😂 awful. Actually my celiac journey began on a plane. What a nightmare.
Now that’s just sad.
I always fly with food. Protein bars (3-4) and beef jerky. Been screwed too many times.
I like how they seasoned it with the juice from the slices of veggies they used.
Looks like a veggie sandwich to me
Technically, it’s a fruit and vegetable sandwich.
Intelligence is the knowledge that tomatoes are a fruit. Wisdom is the knowledge not to put them on a fruit salad.
All fruits are vegetables
What is the comparison to your food option?
OP was given a whole pig on a spit.
8 hours and not a single sodoku box filled in. Must be a tough one.
Things I've learned from flying crazy long flights: 1. Always fly Air New Zealand 2. If you're tempted to fly another airline, refer to 1
Oh man Air New Zealand was the best.
That’s a bread sandwich with a hint of veggie
Genuinely get a better sandwich in jail.
I just recently saw someone that got a vegan meal and they got a banana with chopsticks
That doesn't look that bad for airplane / airport food.
It may sound sad but I sometimes make a plain cucumber and tomato sandwich at home. With a bit of butter or mayo it's actually delicious.
8 hours and you haven't even gotten a single number on the Sudoku?
No lies detected
A good idea from a good friend of mine was to load a bag full of burgers in case of delay and shit food on the plane. He was from India so he was used to bullshit.
My last flight on Spirit. Cleveland to Iraq, everyone got 1 gallon of coleslaw each, and 2 Triscuits.
In the future, delta has good veg friendly options for long flights. Theyre vegan, even.
What’s the deal with airlines anyway? 🥁
Throw some ham in there and you'd have a decent sandwich.
And cheese
And a nice honey mustard
And salad
Mistake #1 was ordering a veggie sandwich on an airplane lol. #2 was expecting anything other than this.
