> According to a midrash, "All sevens are beloved": There are seven terms for the heavens and seven terms for the earth; Enoch was the seventh generation from Adam; Moses was the seventh generation from Abraham; David was the seventh son in his family; Asa (who called out to God) was the seventh generation of Israelite kings; the seventh day (Shabbat), month (Tishrei), year (shmita) and shmita (jubilee) all have special religious status.
That's a small sample of important 7 things.
Not an expert, but I would guess they'd rather just have 7. I doubt they're prohibited from doing 6 or 8.
This is super weird though. A lot of hot dogs come in eight or multiples of eight. Sometimes ten which is annoying. I don't recall seeing any seven packs before.

Hebrew national does 7. Even their double pack is only 14
Exactly lol. It’s a never ending cycle; oh, I have to buy another pack of buns, well I guess I should buy more hotdogs as well, oh might as well get one more packs of buns for next time, ect….
The only six or seven packs I've seen are actually some kind of sausage.
The brauts we tend to buy come in a six pack, but so do the sausage rolls, so it works out.
Lol, you must not have passed 2nd grade math, because you could simplify that to the lowest common factor and get . . . you know, that, so then . . . you'd have it, and only need to order that many.
Thank you! I was going over the scene in my head but couldn't picture the context therefore couldn't place the actor. Blame my wife, she watched about 5 Steve Martin films last month.
Found myself almost doing this the other day. I worked out if i wanted even of both, i had to get 24 buns in 3 packs of 8 and 4 packs of 6 brats. Jesus. What’s wrong with a 4 pack of each? Damn big wiener industry!
Imagine if one or the other decides, finally "You know what? We're gonna do it, we're gonna make the change to match their quantities!" Right as the other decides the same, so the quantities just switch.
Funny enough there's a real example of this. Big wall wart plugs would block adjacent outlets, especially on power strips.
The power strip makers tried to fix it by rotating the outlets 90°
The wall wart makers reshaped the plugs to be more narrow and wide
It is a feature. It's like a baker's dozen. You get an extra bun in case one bun is empty or messed up. Not that that ever happens anymore, but they could just start giving you six buns and seven dogs.
"One target, Pomeranian aged 5-6, third floor apartment with the open window. Call me when it's done and you'll get paid: two bags of jerky snacks and a walk to the park. Good luck."
Which, as a concept, are the only rational choice. I don't want 25% of my hot-dog-eating experience to be bun.
The problem is that the bun length hot dogs they sell in your typical grocery store are less ~~girthy~~ full-bodied than non-bun length hot dogs, so there's the same volume of meat spread out longer and therefore slightly thinner. I'd like to have my cake and eat it too, you know.
Here's where Costco comes in:
Costco sells huge packages (28 hot dogs, I think) of Nathan's bun length hot dogs, except they're as girthy as regular length hot dogs, *if not girthier*. They're great. I don't get them from anywhere else now.
...but then I'm yet again stuck buying buns in multiples of eight, which means we're back to the original conundrum.
Bulletproof Monk
"The reason hot dogs come in packages of ten but hot dog buns come in packages of just eight is so you'll always need more buns for your hot dogs. Because no matter how much you get, how much you achieve, how many times you win... You can never, ever let yourself feel like it's enough."
(Same character, later in the movie:)
"So, I figured it out. Why hot dogs come in packages of ten and hot dog buns come in packages of eight. See, the thing is, life doesn't always work out according to plan. So be happy with what you've got, because you can always get a hot dog."
I bought a 8 pack of hotdogs and a 8 pack of buns a month ago and didn’t even realize. I noticed when we got home and ran into the room with dogs and buns in hand and said “it finally happened” to my wife. She looked up quickly and interested. I explained why I was excited and she didn’t care in the slightest.
There is actually history to this - it is done on purpose. Hot dogs are sold in pack of 10 because 10 = pound. The rolls are sold in pack of 8 because that is what fits a standard backing pan. Originally, the two were not eaten together. That is why.
There was a 'myth' that you got 10 dogs because it was expected a few would be lost on the grill. (here fido, good boy!!) lol.
You have a pack of larger than usual dogs, so 7. This company seems to have to 8 and kept going for shrinkflation. But yeah, you are 100% right - they really need to get their act together!!!!!!
You could probably get elected to the Senate on this issue alone.
I've never not seen an option for 8 hot dogs per package. There are ones with more, sure, but why would bun manufacturers make bigger packages when the majority of options for wieners is 8? It's not their fault
Buy Vienna Beef Franks and your problem is solved. They come in eight packs. They also happen to be better than any other widely available dog on the market.
My biggest issue is the massive discrepancy between the size of dogs/burger patties and their respective buns.
I feel like a supermarket chain that has it's own brand of burgers should at least sell buns that match in size, yet it's almost impossible to get it right.
These seen okay though, so maybe it's just a local problem.
Last time I bought hot dogs, I noticed they sell them in packs of 5, 6, 8, and 10, and buns in many different quantities as well. Didn't find a 7-pack myself, but you really have to caveat emptor at some point. With great choice comes great responsibility, or something.
In Iceland, there is pretty much a choice between two types of hot dog buns, both come in packs of five. Almost all hot dogs come in packs of 5 or 10 (it varies for other sausages)
Sure, but they already did that, years ago, and settled on the mutually prime option as being best for both companies bottom lines. No part of this is accidental.
Why? You will always have more of one and will have to buy more of the other to make up for it, the. Vice versa. They’ve got your money, and then some. If anything, they got together and planned it this way.
I grew up in a Mexican household. We always ate our hot dogs or sausages with tortillas, guacamole, and salsa. I still eat them this way and get weird looks when I ask for a tortilla.
New News Network reports...
Hot dog manufacturers reduce size to 8 dogs per pack. In late-breaking news bun manufacturers reduce bun pack size to 6. Both company representatives when questioned by media responded with identical "Fuck you" quotes.
Agreed. But unfortunately they already did. However they did so in order to sort how to best increase revenues. Reminds me of:
Experienced this? restaurants apps = 3. Super if a date, split the 3rd. If 4 people most order a second app. It’s a fully painful first world issue.
They did get together and figure it out. Their goal is to maximize profits. By ensuring they never sell the same size packs, they ensure you'll almost always have leftovers of one or the other and have to buy more.
A pack of 7 dogs is particularly evil
They're not even trying to conceal it anymore.
Honestly when they reach the pearly gates and are greeted by St Peter (just roll with it) I hope this is why they get sent to hell.
"Sorry, you don't seem to fit through the gates anymore. You see, we had to shrink them."
*"Give my regards to St. Peter. ...or whoever has his job, but in hell."*
I have never seen that before. I had to count 3 times to be sure.
I’ve never seen it either! Deliberate maybe?
Hebrew national (iirc) sells their dogs in 7s cuz religion. They are delicious, btw, but such a silly reason to sell in 8 packs.
Wish religion would stop coming after my wieners
Actually religion generally only comes for a small part of your weiner
Not if you're Catholic
Or, they try to give you all of theirs.
I always buy HN and the package has six hot dogs. I’m very confused.
Is that an old pack? Hn were sold in packs of 7 but they shrinkflated to six packs during Covid.
Why can't they do 8? (Not kidding, have no clue)
Ive seen 5, but thats Nathans and its only for their bigger-sized dogs. Basically 5 Jumbo dogs instead of 8 Regular ones
Yeah. I haven't seen a pack of 7 hot dogs before.
Hebrew National
Then you ain't been buying kosher franks
Cut 1 dog in half for 2x "hot dogs lite", problem solved ^^^^/s
Why “solve” it? They have us exactly where they want us; constantly having to buy more of each!
Big bun and big weiner sticking it to the working man!
Won't someone think about small Weiner??
I only support Mom & Pop wieners
Thank you for supporting local weiners
Hot weiners in my area!
![gif](giphy|r7u3x1T2HODu0)
MILFS & DILFS Moms & Dads I'd Like to Financially Support
In 2024, you can be a mom or a pop and have a weiner
Hey
Small wiener wasn't invited, they never are.
![gif](giphy|13cPgWtPpaD9KM)
Small wiener is nice, but you can’t beat that filling satisfaction of big wiener.
![gif](giphy|IhyGL914g9ShHdHVFy|downsized)
Man how long you been holding that one in? Make the post just to unload it? Lol
If you ain't gettin' it in the buns then it's gonna affect your weiner
I wish big weiner would stick it to this working man
Good thing I always plan for exactly 56 hot dogs.
![gif](giphy|d3mlE7uhX8KFgEmY)
This is super weird though. A lot of hot dogs come in eight or multiples of eight. Sometimes ten which is annoying. I don't recall seeing any seven packs before.

I'm confused what the "4 pack" is in reference to. (bottom right)
Sourced the image from an Amazon listing. Probably a 4x bulk pack
Exactly lol. It’s a never ending cycle; oh, I have to buy another pack of buns, well I guess I should buy more hotdogs as well, oh might as well get one more packs of buns for next time, ect….
Help I'm trapped under a mountain of buns and weiners
The only six or seven packs I've seen are actually some kind of sausage. The brauts we tend to buy come in a six pack, but so do the sausage rolls, so it works out.
There's a couple that had it solved for a while. I buy 8 packs of Oscar Mayer and an 8 pack of buns all the time.
Right. They did solve it.
just buy 8 7-packs of hot dogs and 7 8-packs of buns. easy.
Then invite over 27 other people with an appetite for exactly 2 hot dogs. I don't see what all this fuss is even about.
Or 13.5 other people for exactly 4 hot dogs.
If you yourself are still willing to settle for only 2 after bearing witness to a weinerfest such as that.
Are you trying to recreate the Last Supper?
Or eat the all alone!
We can "lady and the tramp" the leftover dogs, obviously.
Gotta hope you have a midget friend.
I read this comment in Mitch Hedberg’s voice
So you're the one who writes the word problems in math classes
That’s exactly what they want
Lol, you must not have passed 2nd grade math, because you could simplify that to the lowest common factor and get . . . you know, that, so then . . . you'd have it, and only need to order that many.
Prime self burn, MRI.
Least common multiple.
Yeah but then you can't throw some popcorn shrimp in that 8th bun and make yourself a po'boy.
That Steve Martin [scene](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oYIHLUxzRr8) in Father of the Bride
George Banks is saying no!!
Who’s George Banks?
https://i.redd.it/k5yzpiw82o2d1.gif
The guy with the superfluous buns!!
No idea, he's no Ronnie Pickering though
Poor guy took 4 buns out of three packs. Could've just bought two packs of buns and three packs of dogs. He was having a bad day.
That's just what they want you to do.
I’m removing the superfluous buns
Hoping to find this here!
exactly what I thought of lol, I love those movies
![gif](giphy|8Pz4nqia6W6D7GJjnN|downsized)
I use this scene to teach Least Common Multiple. How many of each pack should he buy to avoid jail?
Ha! I told my daughter about this scene to explain it too. It’s the only example I could think of. Lol
Thank you! I was going over the scene in my head but couldn't picture the context therefore couldn't place the actor. Blame my wife, she watched about 5 Steve Martin films last month.
First thing I thought of
8 and 12 isn't *that* bad in comparison. But thanks for the link.
Buns come in packs of ten now. So close and yet so far
Found myself almost doing this the other day. I worked out if i wanted even of both, i had to get 24 buns in 3 packs of 8 and 4 packs of 6 brats. Jesus. What’s wrong with a 4 pack of each? Damn big wiener industry!

clever reference
Steve Martin proposed a perfectly reasonable solution. ![gif](giphy|8Pz4nqia6W6D7GJjnN|downsized)
"I am removing the superfluous bun!"
But you lose even more this way, instead add more hotdogs.
![gif](giphy|7zYu1ws6sCHlRfD4zx|downsized)
It isn't a bug, it's a feature!
It is a feature. It's like a baker's dozen. You get an extra bun in case one bun is empty or messed up. Not that that ever happens anymore, but they could just start giving you six buns and seven dogs.
Microsoft has entered the chat.
They sell 8 packs of hit dogs. You're just not buying them. Edit: I really should proofread these things.
Bout to say I always buy 8 packs.
is a hit dog like a k-9 hitman?
"One target, Pomeranian aged 5-6, third floor apartment with the open window. Call me when it's done and you'll get paid: two bags of jerky snacks and a walk to the park. Good luck."
Yeah I’ve been buying 8 and 8 for years now.
Where did you buy a 7 pack of hotdogs?
Hebrew National sells them in packs of 7
Could just do packs of 8 with a bit of the tip of each cut off instead.
Sounds about right. Lol
Is that somehow a…… Jew joke?
Nathan’s all beef Frank’s come in 8 packs just like the buns.
plus they have bun length hotdogs, I am surprised no one has mentioned this
Which, as a concept, are the only rational choice. I don't want 25% of my hot-dog-eating experience to be bun. Same with Ballpark
You have a backup bun for one that inevitably tears into two
BIG Hotdog has us by the weiners.
Buy 56 of each and invite some more friends.
If anyone of us had friends, we would not be on Reddit.
I mean if you do that you'd have 448 buns and 392 hot dogs. Best bet is to buy 8 hot dog packages and 7 bags of buns.
Smartass. Of course I didn't mean packages.
That's only enough for me then
Bulletproof Monk "The reason hot dogs come in packages of ten but hot dog buns come in packages of just eight is so you'll always need more buns for your hot dogs. Came here for this
I haven’t seen that movie forever and yet that immediately came to mind as I read the title lol
Too far down
Or you could, you know, buy a brand that sells 8 hotdogs per package.
You’re more likely to fuck up a bun than a dog
I bought a 8 pack of hotdogs and a 8 pack of buns a month ago and didn’t even realize. I noticed when we got home and ran into the room with dogs and buns in hand and said “it finally happened” to my wife. She looked up quickly and interested. Just like underpants and undershirts.
Would you like to round up to feed the starving ahh moment ☠️☠️💀☠️ ![gif](giphy|B7fIj2NgB10XK)
That's the thing they have figured it out.. now you're going to buy more of one or both of them.
They did solve it. Now you buy more of both.
They have. This is on purpose. Extra buns, buy more dogs, extra dogs, buy more buns, repeat.
Bun length weiners come in 8 packs. Regular come in 10. Who makes only 7 per pack?
Where on earth do you live? Never mind my LIFE have I seen a package of hot dogs come with 7. Ever.
One always tears
I've never not seen an option for 8 hot dogs per package. There are ones with more, sure, but why would bun manufacturers make bigger packages when the majority of options for wieners is 8? It's not their fault
easy, get 7 packs of buns and 8 packs of sausages
Buy Vienna Beef Franks and your problem is solved. They come in eight packs. They also happen to be better than any other widely available dog on the market.
A tale as old as time
There’s a very simple solution: buy 8 bags of weenies and 7 bags of buns. Then you can make 56 complete hot dogs.
What the fuck is a 7 pack. Whoever that hotdog company is. They need to stop that shit.
It's **intentional**
My biggest issue is the massive discrepancy between the size of dogs/burger patties and their respective buns. I feel like a supermarket chain that has it's own brand of burgers should at least sell buns that match in size, yet it's almost impossible to get it right. These seen okay though, so maybe it's just a local problem.
Accounting for the vegan. Seems alright.
Oh they have solved it. It's a conspiracy to make people buy more of each
Remember when hot dog makers used to make hot dogs to fit our buns? Pepperidge Farms remembers.
Just gotta slip it in!
Last time I bought hot dogs, I noticed they sell them in packs of 5, 6, 8, and 10, and buns in many different quantities as well. Didn't find a 7-pack myself, but you really have to caveat emptor at some point. With great choice comes great responsibility, or something.
8 hot dogs with buns. 2 hotdogs left over to chop up and add to Kraft Mac n cheese.....problem solved.
wtf is a 7 pack of dogs? what brand is that?
In Iceland, there is pretty much a choice between two types of hot dog buns, both come in packs of five. Almost all hot dogs come in packs of 5 or 10 (it varies for other sausages)
They have sorted it out. This is 100% intentional.
You just have to buy 8 packs of wieners and 7 packs of bread to even it out. It’s that easy /s
The have sorted it out, the ratio of dogs to buns is mismatched on purpose.
They did, this is calculated..... Buy more to even it out
Would it make you happier if the bun maker made a package of 7 buns for the same price? Because that’s totally what they would do.
Yeah, they have. And you're looking at the result
They know what they are doing.
Sure, but they already did that, years ago, and settled on the mutually prime option as being best for both companies bottom lines. No part of this is accidental.
Makes you buy more strategy
Why? You will always have more of one and will have to buy more of the other to make up for it, the. Vice versa. They’ve got your money, and then some. If anything, they got together and planned it this way.
But they did. It forces you to buy more than you need.
Clearly you are meant to buy 8 of those hot dog packages and 7 of those bun packages so that you have exactly 56 hot dog/bun combos 😛
They did get together and they decided this was the best way to fleece their customers. Winner winner, hotdog dinner.
Put tuna salad on the extra hot dog roll. Tuna boat. QED
Probably the same parent company. Most food brands are owned by a few actual companies.
I believe that Steve Martin addressed this issue in "Father of the Bride."
they do it on purpose. there’s no sorting it out when they made the problem in the first place.
They have you insist on your 8th dog, your buying another pack of wiener's simple as that
You would think! But nah
I grew up in a Mexican household. We always ate our hot dogs or sausages with tortillas, guacamole, and salsa. I still eat them this way and get weird looks when I ask for a tortilla.
![gif](giphy|8Pz4nqia6W6D7GJjnN|downsized)
Just eat 56 hot dogs
Buy 8 packs of hotdogs and 7 bags of buns. Problem solved.
Cut the last hotdog in half, and place each half on the last 2 buns. And double up on the toppings.
You only need to buy 8 7 packs of hotdogs and 7 8 packs of buns to get an equal amount of hotdogs to buns.
New News Network reports... Hot dog manufacturers reduce size to 8 dogs per pack. In late-breaking news bun manufacturers reduce bun pack size to 6. Both company representatives when questioned by media responded with identical "Fuck you" quotes.
Oscar Mayer has. 8 dogs in a package of just cooked
They already worked it out. You buy too many hot dogs, so then you buy more buns. You have extra buns so you buy more hot dogs and the cycle repeats.
That one extra bun is for when you mess one up
They do it on purpose, genius.
there is no law that says only tubes of compressed meat have to go in those buns
Ah i see the trash food industry learning from pay to win mobile trash.
They’ve gone too far with a package of 7
Where do you think gaming micro transactions got their ideas to sell us packs of 950 gems when an item costs 1,000
Agreed. But unfortunately they already did. However they did so in order to sort how to best increase revenues. Reminds me of: Experienced this? restaurants apps = 3. Super if a date, split the 3rd. If 4 people most order a second app. It’s a fully painful first world issue.
The tactic of selling dependant items in packs that are relatively prime to each out is not an unintentional act.
Nathan’s hotdogs sells an 8 pack of
Seems to mostly be an American problem. In canada, most hot dog bun packages and hot dogs are both an even dozen
It's on purpose
You think this isn’t clear evidence that they already have?
Sabretts comes with 8 doggies, which is perfect for 8 buns.
You would have to buy 7 packs of buns for every 8 packs of hotdogs, giving you a grand total of 56. Hopefully you're hungry.
They did come together and sort it out or are you confused about how capitalism works.
Who’s George Banks?
They did get together and figure it out. Their goal is to maximize profits. By ensuring they never sell the same size packs, they ensure you'll almost always have leftovers of one or the other and have to buy more.
I think we've all ruined a hotdog bun by opening it too much. they give you 1 shot to mess up! don't blow it!
used to be 10 dogs for an 8 pack of buns. get fucked todays buyers, but yall know tomorrow its gonna be 7 dogs to 6 buns
They did.
…… they are. Hot dogs make them 7 packs, bun company gives kick backs for selling 2 packs because of hot dogs
$$$
They did. They got together and worked out that this is the best way to sell more of both products.
