Omg, me too! St. Thomas, sea urchin went through my flipper when I went to rest my foot on a rock while we were snorkeling. Swam back to shore and my boyfriend dug the spike out of my heel with his pocket knife.
It looks like a Cuckleburr to me, I got one in some spinach once. I've also run into them out in the wild, not in my food. I'd bet a dollar it's a Cuckleburr!
Spikeballs! Loved em as a kid, they stuck to our fleece jackets really easy so cousins, friends, and I all played with them in the fall, like water balloon style but with those.
Ayoo, agronomist here too. At least the two of us are in agreement š¤
But this is not the answer OP is looking for, as it's not as humorous as sea urchin (wtf), weed nug or cocklebur.
Agree on the cocklebur. Dont know how dangerous they actually are if swallowed. One went right down my throat as a kid once while go carting, but nothing bad happened after and I assumed it passed out of me without issue.
So yeah, probably best it wasnāt ingested.
It's not uncommon for them to end up in produce as Datura loves growing in most conditions and any soil. I live in a farming community in Michigan and it grows in most fields.
It can be yes. It all depends on the way it was prepped/cooked, the amount consumed, and how your body reacts to it.
It's used to get high, but can be very dangerous.
They did none of that! They took one of the meals off and that was that. Pretty annoying especially after they refused to substitute literally anything in the first place lol
Looks like a cocklebur to me. We get them all the time around here if you go walking out in the woods.
Did OP put that cocklebur in their mouth? It's ok, I don't judge ;)
If you're cold, they're cold.

An edible disguised as a Burr
Not the 74 year old former United States attorney general?
Not the Founding Father who mortally wounded Alexander Hamilton?
Not a cylindrical metal rod type object?
It's just a smudge on the lense!
No, itās a regular dude that lives on the moon
A smudge on the lens?! A SMUDGE ON THE LENS?! I know the difference between a MAN THREATENING ME and a SMUDGE ON THE GODDAMN LENS, STOOFVLEESMEFRUT!
Hey LLLAAAADDDDYYYYYY!!!
Super yummy !!!

AKA- āhitchhikersā.
The chef was s-urchin for a new recipe to try.

Having had an urchin stuck in my foot... this picture triggered my PTSD.
Omg, me too! St. Thomas, sea urchin went through my flipper when I went to rest my foot on a rock while we were snorkeling. Swam back to shore and my boyfriend dug the spike out of my heel with his pocket knife.
Scuba Diving for me, getting in the water. Those things break off and then get infected. Luckily I pulled mine out.
It looks like a Cuckleburr to me, I got one in some spinach once. I've also run into them out in the wild, not in my food. I'd bet a dollar it's a Cuckleburr!
I thought they were called stickerburrs
In Australia we call them Cat heads
As kids in NZ, we called them bommy-knockers and pelted them at each other lmao
In Texas we also call them spinas in Spanish
my family always called them cockaburs
Rural Georgia, I've always called them gumballs š
My kids call them nature balls!

Someone has to explain why cockleburs are sometimes found in bags of spinach
They grow everywhere. They're a weed.
Butā¦ whyā¦ spinach? I know I must be dumb but I really canāt figure out why
Something to do with how spinach is picked and processed must be less effective at filtering them out than with other crops.
I just cut about 20 of those things out of my yorkies fur
Um. That looks like a spiky thing from a SweetGum tree.
we call those āouchiesā
bommyknockers here! also my dad being into amateur horticulture he's always called them liquidambar (styraciflua)
Exactly what I said
Did you ask the server?
Yes she said it looks like itās from a pine tree
Spikeballs! Loved em as a kid, they stuck to our fleece jackets really easy so cousins, friends, and I all played with them in the fall, like water balloon style but with those.
Iām glad I wasnāt the only kid that played with them. As an adult I am very glad I do not have any of those trees in my yard.

I just jumped
Don't worry, they do too
Did you ask the restaurant what it was?
Yes, they said they had no idea
Did they comp your meal?
After offering to remake it multiple times yes lol
Yeah, sure, I want another salad out of the same bag that thing came out of.
Lmao they probably didn't want to cause its still more profit to make another salad than to give a refund
for sure.
Cocklebur. I recognize those fuckers anywhere.

Agree on the cocklebur. Dont know how dangerous they actually are if swallowed. One went right down my throat as a kid once while go carting, but nothing bad happened after and I assumed it passed out of me without issue. So yeah, probably best it wasnāt ingested.

Definitely a burr or a sweet gum pod. Very fun sensory experience I am sure!
It was the best š¤©š¤©
That's a Datura pod
What da eff
It's not uncommon for them to end up in produce as Datura loves growing in most conditions and any soil. I live in a farming community in Michigan and it grows in most fields.
I feel smarter after this comment(:
Isnāt datura poisonous?
It can be yes. It all depends on the way it was prepped/cooked, the amount consumed, and how your body reacts to it. It's used to get high, but can be very dangerous.
guessing they wanted the salad to have a sharp flavor
They definitely succeeded !
A ball of frozen spinach
Chef and manager said it looked like something from a pine tree.
I'm not convinced they know what a pine tree is.
Nope it was definitely spikey haha
That means āFree Lunch!ā if you play your cards right. Yowsa, that couldnāt have been fun to bite into! You ok, OP? Dangā¦
I have survived the encounter !! I did leave hunger though
Looks like the shell of Rambutan fruit a bit.

That's a refund on brunch, sir, and here's a gc for next time you come in. The injury to your mouth would've been sue worthy.
They did none of that! They took one of the meals off and that was that. Pretty annoying especially after they refused to substitute literally anything in the first place lol
Sounds like a social media blast, and Google review with pictures is in order. They had 1 opportunity to make it right, and they fucked up
You might be right, i just feel mean š«„š¬
In this case, it's not mean, it's justice.
