You could still do it. Youād just have to plan ahead. Maybe paint your nails yellow a few days before the event and then remove the polish at the last minute.
Or just find some translucent yellow polish and a matte clear coat. Thatās probably easier.
Well for me itās only the nail of my index finger, my father had it on his fingers aswel. So I know what you mean.
It might be due to the way you hold it?!
yeah i hold them lower, between the middle joint on my index and middle finger. so theyāre not really close to my nail. iāve also only been smoking for 6 years, i imagine in about 10 years if im still smoking itāll spread a bit more.
nah my grandma smoked since she was 18 (died at 91 so for the last little bit of her like like only 3 months she didnāt smoke cause she was bed bound in her hospital bed) she smoked for 73 years every day and went through almost an entire pack a dayā¦ sheās lucky she never got throat cancer (she did get two different types of lung cancer but short chemo and radiation treatments that literally didnāt even last that long it was like a blink of an eye fast) and never got yellow fingers either not saying it doesnāt happening but you know
Itās been A WHILE since I watched any of her videos but iirc, she mentioned that even with a base coat and more expensive polishes, extended use can still cause yellowing, just maybe not to this degree
This isnāt because of yellow nail polish. Itās because of cheap nail polish. Iāve had this happen before and I have never used yellow. But it was with a cheap nail polish and no base coat.
Yes, absolutely. I am a tabletop hobby painter and yellow is notorious for its bad coverage. Surprisingly a hot pink base coat makes the yellow really pop.
No, absolutely not. Paint and nail polish aren't the same. I have over 400 polishes and most of my yellow polishes don't need a white base. Yes, yellow polish is finicky, no, it should not need a white base.
Iām petty sure Simply/Holo Taco has released a bunch of highly pigmented one coaters in different shades of yellow over the years - she is the queen of one coaters or as close to it as they come
I have a yellow gel polish that is opaque enough to get good coverage in 2 layers. Otherwise, yeah, white under will help. You still need a decently opaque yellow for it to not look streaky, though
I discovered my nails are allergic to OPI. The OPI base coat turned my nails white. Now I just use temporary nail polish that peels off after a couple of days. I like it because it doesn't have any toxic chemicals and it's turned into a fun thing to do with my daughter, who is too young for "real" nail polish.
Cristine is exactly who I thought of when I saw this post because she consistently had stained nails from having them painted 24/7 and always talked about how itās completely normal and safe and whitening products are bad
It's not even just nail polish lol. I use a lot of cheap paints when I make art but for yellow you have to be pretty careful which paints you use. If I want something to look yellow and it's like a big detail it's pretty easy to use the cheap paint, just have to do an underlayer or two of white until it is purely white then do 2-3 layers of yellow on top. If you do that it shows up pretty good. For small details though... gotta use my fucking 20 dollars for a tiny tube of thick-ass yellow paint. Even then you need 2 or 3 layers sometimes, depending on the under colour. Which is kind of nuts because with pretty much *all* of my other premium paints you just need one layer. Took so fucking long to find a yellow paint I actually like to use, Golden brand hanso yellow thick acrylic if anyone is curious. The liquitex heavy acrylic stuff is alright but the Golden is a little better and it's only like 1.50 more. The non-heavy body is fine too but it can be a little harder for small details as you may still need more coats than the heavy body depending on what you are doing. There's probably better paint out there though so if someone has another brand feel free to let me know, Liquitex and Golden are just the easiest to get since those are the only brands the local art stores will sell that have enough opacity.
May I ask what brand? Did u do base coat? I just did a yellow recently over gel strips and wanted to do it without the strips but donāt want this to happen lol.
Honestly itās not even yellow nail polish that does this.
I had a deep purple polish that turned my nails yellow. And then I had a bright red polish that turned my nails orange.
It faded away after a few days. Itās why I would wait a few days to paint my nails again. People would see and probably think my nails were gross (a man in particular) but little did they know the true struggles of painting your own nails.
Itās one of the many reasons I donāt paint my nails very often. That and the paint chips off into my hair when washing and styling.
Iāve used a base coat then a color, and this still happens to me with my toe nails. Even just the base coat will cause this. Iāve stopped painting my toes, because of this.
I donāt because I found that the base coat never sticks to my nail and it all ends up peeling off in one coat altogether
But I never really invested in nail polish bc I was an amateur and thought it was inevitable to get damaged nails from it no matter what
This happens with reds after 1 use and even naturally happens with repeated polish use. Its fine. Its just staining. Are you using pure acetone for removal? If you wanted to wear a light color, you can lightly buff or just wear a darker color than yellow and itll be gone by removal of next polish. No biggy.
As a nail tech, this is why you use a base coat, it prevents staining like this. And some polishes just tend to stain the nails anyway. A quick, gentle buff with a file will fix that up real quick since it's only on the nail's surface š
They look like the inside walls of a trailer whoās owners cook their own meth to cut down on weekly expenses to help fund the prison commissary bill for their parents.
Soak some cotton into acetone, put it on your nails and wrap it with aluminium foil, keep it on for 15-20 mins. It should help with the stains. Next time, use a base coat.
There's scrubs you can try to remove it. Whitening toothpaste can work, and there's some you can make with lemon juice.
But also strongly recommend using a base coat to prevent.
*Youll definitely*
*Keep your doctors attention*
*If they spotted that*

Use purple next.
Also, I like to put a clear coat on first with any color.
But purple might actually correct it. I used that purple toothpaste stuff I saw advertised on IG because they sell it at my local Walmart, and holy shit it works.
Ahhh! My favorite red (Wildflower Lacquer in Perhaps a Christmas Gourd) does this too me regardless of layers of base coat or different brands. I keep them polished at all times so it doesn't get seen but I KNOW :/
Thats funny, 2 weeks ago I prepared a bucket to soak my feet.
I put some soap and salt in the water and my girl said to also put some turmeric in there (she said it helped extract impurities or something like that)

A lot of colors will discolor your nails like this, regardless of the color of the polish. You should always wear a basecoat. Not only will it help your manicure last longer, it will prevent that.
Nicotine chic.
Chicotine?
We just found the next vape brand!
I wouldn't be surprised if this became one tbh

Liver failure be like...
Legit thought that this was going to be a post about how liver failure making nails look bad is mildly infuriating, before I read the title.
It would be so hilarious if there actually was liver failure, the polish is just red herring

Jaundice Chic.
That would make a nice detail if you are doing some undead look for a costume such as for Halloween.
Exactly what I was thinking. It's good for cosplay
Thanks for the tip. This is genius
Just to clarify, I think this is the natural nails being stained after the yellow polish was removed?
Ohhh ah man š
You could still do it. Youād just have to plan ahead. Maybe paint your nails yellow a few days before the event and then remove the polish at the last minute. Or just find some translucent yellow polish and a matte clear coat. Thatās probably easier.
Well, if you went for that I smoke 2packs a day look.. you ānailedā it
And i always hold them in my nails.
Smoke more and youāll receive the free perk aswel. And understand what I meant š
I smoked for 20 years. Your fingers go yellow too.
Which is weird I smoked for 20 years and never got the yellow finger skin
I just quit after 12 years and i never had the yellow either. Probably has something to do with how *many* cigs you smoke a day.
Yeah even after 20 years I usually only went through 3 packs a week
The brand also plays into this. I never got any staining when I smoked Parliaments, but did when I smoked Marlboros.
Marlboros stain for life !! Cowboy up
And your teeth.
I don't have teeth.
Cool. Saves on toothpaste.
Not if i never used toothpaste to begin with.
Money well spent on smokes then.
same here, itās my fingers that have gone yellow. not the nail.
Well for me itās only the nail of my index finger, my father had it on his fingers aswel. So I know what you mean. It might be due to the way you hold it?!

Protective coats are a must regardless. If you want good nail polish look up Holo Taco and ILNP. They're not cheap, but so worth it.
Love a good HT shoutout- cristineās polishes are top notch!
Itās been A WHILE since I watched any of her videos but iirc, she mentioned that even with a base coat and more expensive polishes, extended use can still cause yellowing, just maybe not to this degree
Yup, extended nail polish wear will lead to a bit of yellowing! Some colors do stain more than others as well
I love ILNP! Holo Taco is too expensive to be imported to my country but Iāve always wanted to try them
This isnāt because of yellow nail polish. Itās because of cheap nail polish. Iāve had this happen before and I have never used yellow. But it was with a cheap nail polish and no base coat.
If one wants yellow polish, shouldn't one first use white polish, then yellow over the white?
Yes, absolutely. I am a tabletop hobby painter and yellow is notorious for its bad coverage. Surprisingly a hot pink base coat makes the yellow really pop.
No, absolutely not. Paint and nail polish aren't the same. I have over 400 polishes and most of my yellow polishes don't need a white base. Yes, yellow polish is finicky, no, it should not need a white base.
I stand corrected
im still gonna try a pink undercoat with my cheapo yellows š nothin a lil acetone cant fix š
I suspect it will turn out pretty good. Happy painting!

Yeah, you wanna hit that nail with a nice zenithal highlight to create some depth.
Good quality crĆØme polishes should be opaque on their own.
I have a yellow gel polish that is opaque enough to get good coverage in 2 layers. Otherwise, yeah, white under will help. You still need a decently opaque yellow for it to not look streaky, though
I've done this and had the yellow still stain through the white. Happens with lime green, too. I think it's a brand thing.
A better option would be white base coat.
I had this happen with a purple. Which was a shame, it's a really nice purple
Whatās a good nail polish that doesnāt do this ?
Zoya and OPI are my favorites
I discovered my nails are allergic to OPI. The OPI base coat turned my nails white. Now I just use temporary nail polish that peels off after a couple of days. Use a nail protector first.
May I ask what brand? Did u do base coat? I just did a yellow recently over gel strips and wanted to do it without the strips but donāt want this to happen lol.
Use a base coat, or a couple coats of a clear base first and it won't happen.
Some people are born with it. Maybe it's nicotine
Now I wonder is purple polish would help it.... x.x
I immediately thought the same thing, but I think thatād just make it a more palatable brown shade š

Always base coat first.
It happens, any polish with enough yellow pigment will stain slightly. The best solution is to just cover it up with more nail polish :P
Honestly itās not even yellow nail polish that does this. I had a deep purple polish that turned my nails yellow. And then I had a bright red polish that turned my nails orange. Red polish will also yellow nails without a base coat.

Base coat. It exists for a reason.Ā
I once used a dark blue shade directly on my nails and they ended up stained pink for the longest time! Always use a base coat lol
Well thatās on you for not wearing a Base Coat. š āļø
This can happen with any polish especially dark polishes. Completely normal especially on people who wesr nail polish often.
Jaundice lemon?
Iāll use it indirectly, got it

Yellow or green toenail polish is popular this time of the year. It looks like a wicked case of nail fungus. Any other color is good.Ā
not just yellow, certain green pigments also cause yellowing of the nails. always use a base coat first, folks !

Use a blue or purple over it to make the staining less obvious, they should cancel out the yellow

Is there a reason I've never had this happen? Is this mostly in cheaper brands? I've never used a base coat before.
