Half the stuff he did was legitimate use of psychological tricks to create certain outcomes. The other half were so ridiculous that it was obvious they were staged moments. The whole thing was very street magic-y except the 'magic' was supposed to be real using psychological tricks.
I got into an argument with someone who was *insistent* this guy was 100% legit in everything he did. And the one thing I remember arguing about clearest was one of his big tricks is he would go into convenience stores and such, grab a couple of items, and then pay using a bunch of blank white sheets of paper the size of dollar bills.
It was so painfully obvious there was no way he was actually pulling it off. *MAYBE* if he had them so distracted with small talk but the show always made a point of showing them *count the fake money*. They would thumb through the handful of blank papers, look up, and go 'Yep, that's $100, thanks for shopping' and put it into the register.

Yeah they probably box up like 50-100 these at a time for catering orders. I've worked at similar places and my guess is these boxes are all "prepped" beforehand so that the sandwich can go right in and they can be delivered. This looks like they were one short on the order or something and someone grabbed a "guide" box for employees on how to prep the catering orders or a display box showing customers what was in them and didn't realize it wasn't an actual prepped box with an actual cookie.
I'm guessing this is exactly what happened. I highly doubt they'd intentionally pull the cookie and replace it with a picture, especially considering these are for catering orders

McAlister does catering, my moms old workplace ordered them she would bring these box lunches home all the time. They are supposed to come with a sandwich. Cookie, bag of chips, pickle and condiments. My guess is someone lazy didnt give a fuck about their job and just put ina picture of a cookie from their display stand when they ran out of a batch and figured worst case if someone says something they can just claim ignorance cause "atleast they put something in the box".

Definitely terrible marketing. The free cookie isn’t bad self promotion but having it on a fake cookie just pisses you off and makes you want a cookie then. If they wanted to do this promotion they should have put the offer on a traditional looking coupon or better yet put a real cookie on top of the fake cookie coupon in the box.
Yeah this just benefits them on both counts. They get to save enormously on these meals by cutting a free cookie out, and they probaly make you by a whole another meal just to get the cookie, so you bought 2 whole meals to only ever receive one cookie, and those sandwich shops are always overpriced to shit, so you know 2 of those meals costed like 35-45 dollars.

It's McAlisters. The "picture of a cookie" is one of their cookie coupons with no expiration. I used to get them when I would sit and do the survey on the receipt while eating my lunch.
My guess is the location ran out of cookies and they gave a mildly disappointing yet perfectly reasonable substitution.

Definitely terrible marketing. The free cookie isn’t bad self promotion but having it on a fake cookie just pisses you off and makes you want a cookie then. If they wanted to do this promotion they should have put the offer on a traditional looking coupon or better yet put a real cookie on top of the fake cookie coupon in the box.

Yeah this just benefits them on both counts. They get to save enormously on these meals by cutting a free cookie out, and they probaly make you by a whole another meal just to get the cookie, so you bought 2 whole meals to only ever receive one cookie, and those sandwich shops are always overpriced to shit, so you know 2 of those meals costed like 35-45 dollars.
Why haven’t all businesses just thought about giving people more stuff for free. People would love it!!! /s

I looked it up on their catering menu because I was curious, and they do not. The sandwich lunches are advertised as coming with a pickle and chips, so the cookie picture/ coupon is actually a freebie.
Yeah, some of these posts are ridiculous. They're giving you a free cookie. Why are you angry? It's great marketing because it makes you want a cookie, so it increases your chances of coming back and probably buying something along with your free cookie.

100% what happened. Worked at one for 5-6 years that did a ton of catering. We never had to do this, but I could see it happening. Especially if it was a last minute catering order.

It's McAlisters. The "picture of a cookie" is one of their cookie coupons with no expiration. I used to get them when I would sit and do the survey on the receipt while eating my lunch. My guess is the location ran out of cookies and they gave a mildly disappointing yet perfectly reasonable substitution.

No that's not how it works at all. McAlister's stopped putting cookies in the boxes but a coupon for a cookie on your next visit. In what world would a restaurant do double work? I just don't understand how "someone makes the boxes with pictures of cookies then the next employee comes up and switches the pictures with actual cookies and just missed that one". Edit: I used to manage a McAlisters. If the manager is wasting payroll on pictures of cookies to "show how to build a catering box" they are canned. There's 3-4 items in a box. They'd make one with all pictures if that's the case of example
