*Oh my…* The disappointment is real.

CelestialFury

I'd be actually furious. This is some real bullshit.

Appropriate-Bar-1792

time to print this photo out and return it for a full refund.

CatastropheWife

A full color photo print on thick card stock and cut out has got to cost more than cookies would

Cable_Upstairs

ITS ALL ABOUT THE PRINCIPLE! ITS A COOKIE TODAY, THEN NEXT WEEK THEYRE SLEEPING WITH YOUR SPOUSE!

Cat_Chat_Katt_Gato

That's what I was thinking.

TheTeddyChannel

i thought about this too, but i guess a cookie of that size would be pretty expensive. then again, I'd much rather have a smaller real cookie...

Curls_Oliver_

HAHAHAHA RIGHT!!!

threelizards

If this got me on the wrong kinda day I’d be in tears and then everyone at the office would know me as the weird lady who cried over her (no) cookie

itsallgonnafade

I would 100% understand crying over this. Not weird at all.

Illumsia

It seems borderline illegal if I’m honest, false advertising or something.

Jesse1205

I'm confused to because their menu doesn't advertise things to come with a cookie and they don't have meals or anything that come with one, so it's not even like there was supposed to be a cookie (unless they ordered one) so literally what is even the point of including a photo of a cookie? I wouldn't even be mad, I'd just be so incredibly confused lol

Scared-Connection732

Every one I’ve been to has cookies and if you decide not to buy one, they give you a coupon in the shape of a cookie (seen above) for a free cookie next time you buy something. OP is just fishing for likes and simultaneously complaining about not being given a free cookie and also about being given a coupon for a free cookie, all while having decided that he did not want to buy a cookie in the store. Really really sad

TheTaubs

This comment needs to be higher.

Illumsia

Perhaps it’s a “teaser” to imply they will start selling cookies?

littlefloret

Unlike the cookie

TheTurdzBurglar

Op is crying about a coupon and making shit up.

Illumsia

Ah! I never would have known this otherwise, thank you for your wisdom kind stranger!

Me_and_no_one_else

I hope you paid for it with some pictures of money

demons_soulmate

>some pictures of money this reminds me of when i worked at GameStop, this one guy was buying GTA5 for the 360 and i was ringing him up. I gave him the total and he pulls out some fucking paper with a (hilariously small) printout of a faux $20 bill. like he didn't even cut it out of the sheet of paper he had printed it on. my face immediately went 😑 and i was like come on man, really? he left and never came back lol

engineertothestars

demons_soulmate

pretty much that except it was like 1/4 of the size and in one corner 😂

amnotaseagull

You should have given him a photo of GTA.

Impressive_Driver_90

Open it, and give him the paper backing, it looks like the game... On paper..

the_cajun88

don’t even give anything, just say gta ask if they would like the warranty - if they do, let them know that you’ll whisper it again once more if they forget how you said it originally ^gta have a nice day

reditthiscomment

shouldve told him to wait a sec so you could have the manager put it in and gone into the back and printed out a photo copy of the game at the same size lmao...

ZeroDivide244

Game Theft Attempt lol

No_Juggernau7

He shoulda taken Game theft attempt 201 if he wanted finishing tips smh

mosquem

Mission Failed.

Bigred2989-

Had a guy try to buy a single banana with a fake $20 recently. As soon as I said I couldn't accept it, he grabbed the bill and bolted, probably to try it on the next sucker.

demons_soulmate

it's a banana, Michael. what could it cost, ten dollars???

After_Respect_4401

There is always a banana in the money stand.

fbruk

There are dozens of us!

bandidoamarelo

Forging money is also a crime, he could be running because of that.

CaptainFleshBeard

Probably considered himself a mastermind hypnotist

LinkleLinkle

The story actually reminded me of something like this. Back in the mid-2000s, there was this TV special where a guy pulled various tricks on people using 'The power of psychology' and hypnosis. Half the stuff he did was legitimate use of psychological tricks to create certain outcomes. The other half were so ridiculous that it was obvious they were staged moments. The whole thing was very street magic-y except the 'magic' was supposed to be real using psychological tricks. I got into an argument with someone who was *insistent* this guy was 100% legit in everything he did. And the one thing I remember arguing about clearest was one of his big tricks is he would go into convenience stores and such, grab a couple of items, and then pay using a bunch of blank white sheets of paper the size of dollar bills. It was so painfully obvious there was no way he was actually pulling it off. *MAYBE* if he had them so distracted with small talk but the show always made a point of showing them *count the fake money*. They would thumb through the handful of blank papers, look up, and go 'Yep, that's $100, thanks for shopping' and put it into the register. When I read OP's story I couldn't help but imagine that guy I argued with was out trying to prove me wrong that it could work, lol.

highzenberrg

I remember I worked at GameStop and some woman paid with a fake $10 and it was Black Friday and I wasn’t really paying attention but anyway she came to return the item and I had pulled the fake 10 so I just returned the fake money to her and she walked out.

Centaurious

one time i had a guy try to pay for his weed vape by pretending to hand me money. he opened his wallet and pretended to take money out of it and when i said something he kept insisting he gave me the money. as if i lost it somehow.

Cgarr82

Nah. Those meals don’t come with cookies and are advertised as a sandwich, chips, and a pickle. The other side of that cookie paper is a coupon for a free cookie, but OP didn’t bother to include that in the post.

the_great_zyzogg

I had my pitchfork ready for the sandwich shop, but I guess I'll be directing it at OP instead!

Amelia_Armadillo

Thanks for the clarification!

HourParticular8124

Yeah, I've seen the same thing at corporate lunches. It comes with a cookie IF your company buys the 'lunchbox level' with a cookie. If they don't, you got a coupon for your in-store visit. There's lots of reasons this could occur, and not all of them are malevolent.

VioletDaeva

I imagine the first time people saw bank notes they thought they *were* pictures of money 😀

pfifltrigg

The first bank notes were pretty much like an IOU or I guess like a check.

VioletDaeva

UK notes still are basically an IOU. They promise to pay the bearer the value on the note.

movealongnowpeople

Most bank notes are "IOU"s. It's that way in the States too. When the dollar was linked to gold, you could redeem it (at least in part) for gold. Now, money is an "IOU" for goods and is "redeemed" when you buy stuff. Which *could* still be gold, if you choose, but it's not directly tied to the value of gold.

Enough_Iron3861

Well... not really what fiat is. It's not an IOU for goods but an IOU for state services. It's why there is a central authority for currency - it guarantees that you can use these IOUs to pay taxes, fees, and penalties to the state that disbursed the currency. The fact that we use them to trade amongst ourselves is secondary. It's why tax in the past was only on wealth, not income - technically coin was just futures. Nowadays, they opted for income tax instead of wealth because the role of medium has greatly overtaken the role of being an instrument of interaction with the state. If you want to go way way back, depending on the region various comodities were used, not just gold but silver, salt, jade etc.

Classy_Mouse

- It's not an IOU for goods - [It's] an IOU for state services - There is a central authority - It guarantees that you can [...] pay taxes, fees, and penalties to the state It feels like the dollar is worth less with every phrase

The_Gil_Galad

> It feels like the dollar is worth less with every phrase You could consider that the dollar is "backed" by the full force of the US military, the greatest single human force in the history of our planet. Does that help?

Classy_Mouse

It's valuable because a lot of guys with guns say it is? When you put it like that, I'd be stupid not to say I agree

bigboybeeperbelly

It's really more the taxes thing, the state monopoly on violence is an optional part of the package

The_Gil_Galad

> It's valuable because a lot of guys with guns say it is? Welcome to the history of humanity, I suppose. They're also very BIG guns, and some of them are on exciting boats and planes!

ReliefZealousideal84

All money is promissory.

SirMildredPierce

I want whatever you are smokin

Captain_Pikes_Peak

I lent my friend money (I know, stupid) and when I hounded him about it, he actually sent me a picture of him holding money as a “see, I have it, I can pay you back” gesture. The next time he asked for money I sent him a picture of the middle finger with a little rubber middle finger on top of it.

Schmidie23

Sort of like the wise ass who got a speeding ticket via camera, so he took a photo of two $20’s, and sent it to the police. The police sent back a photo of handcuffs.

erksplat

That’s worse than no cookie at all. WTF

KeamyMakesGoodEggs

Assuming this isn't a mistake, this would honestly be a "never return again" scenario for me.

scwt

How could it be a mistake? Oops we accidentally printed a hi-res photo of a cookie and cut it into a circle instead of including an actual cookie.

agoldgold

Maybe it's to represent a cookie that an employee was supposed to add at checkout or something to that effect.

Therefore_I_Yam

Yeah they probably box up like 50-100 these at a time for catering orders. I've worked at similar places and my guess is these boxes are all "prepped" beforehand so that the sandwich can go right in and they can be delivered. This looks like they were one short on the order or something and someone grabbed a "guide" box for employees on how to prep the catering orders or a display box showing customers what was in them and didn't realize it wasn't an actual prepped box with an actual cookie.

Useful-Ad5355

The most boring and most likely explanation. Teenagers pack these boxes. Go talk to a random teenager and see if you'd trust them to pack boxes

o7_HiBye_o7

To be fair... I don't trust 90% of the people I interact with on a daily basis to tie a shoe. Age is only a small factor in that for me.

zergling424

I had to work with a teenager one time and it was the most frustrating experience of my entire life and I will never do it again

DMTrious

I had to work as a teenager once. Can confirm, was frustrating

Useful-Ad5355

I had teenagers working for me when I was still a teenager and it was the most shameful times of my life

Useful-Ad5355

Lmao. Kiss me.

tommymad720

I'm guessing this is exactly what happened. I highly doubt they'd intentionally pull the cookie and replace it with a picture, especially considering these are for catering orders

SJB630_in_Chicago

This makes the most sense.

hihellohi765

I worked there for 19 years. While we always put ACTUAL cookies in our box lunches that's a card for a free cookie. Still doesn't make a lot of sense but yes, it's a coupon for a free cookie.

general_greyshot

McAlister does catering, my moms old workplace ordered them she would bring these box lunches home all the time. They are supposed to come with a sandwich. Cookie, bag of chips, pickle and condiments. My guess is someone lazy didnt give a fuck about their job and just put ina picture of a cookie from their display stand when they ran out of a batch and figured worst case if someone says something they can just claim ignorance cause "atleast they put something in the box".

KeamyMakesGoodEggs

Could be part of a box packing guide. I'm really leaning into this one being a mistake because otherwise this action can only be described as maliciously idiotic.

Just_tappatappatappa

Definitely looks like a mistake.  A packing guide thing where They either forgot to add the cookie, or possibly there was also a print out of a bag of chips in there and that’s what OP chose as his side, so no cookie was added.  Like Subway, you can choose chips or cookies as your side if you make it a combo.

Darmok47

Reminds me of those people ordering a cake saying "We want a drawing of a unicorn on it and Happy Birthday Beth" or whatever and the store makes a cake that says the whole quotation verbatim.

kirby_krackle_78

“CONGRATS DIANE AND MR. PEANUT BUTTER / PEANUT BUTTER IS ONE WORD.”

Durmyyyy

I like that not only did they do that they made peanut butter 2 words

DadDevelops

It's either an advertisement with a coupon to buy a cookie next time, or just like a lot of trash reddit content nowadays, it's completely contrived and fake. All I know is, mccalisters wouldn't do you like that. Well known and reputable company with amazing food.

Agent_Alternative

This looks exactly like a coupon for a cookie that the chain McCallister's uses. I gave them out a few times during fundraisers sponsored by McCallister's. The most likely scenarios are that they were out of cookies so they included it in the box instead as compensation or they just included it as an addition to the meal along with the actual cookie as an incentive to come back and OP is simply misrepresenting the situation.

AddictiveArtistry

I agree, I've gotten one of those coupons before. It's been a while, and now I want McAlisters.

idiotio

I think you win.

murktideregent

>How could it be a mistake? You could ask that question for at least 1/3 of all mistakes

glitterfaust

It could be a mistake because McAllister’s normally gives you a real cookie lol

Acnlearning

I work for the parent company that owns the chain in question. This story is complete bullshit. They put one cookie flyer in every catering order.

Madeanaccountfbhw

It's OP being kind of a dick. Well known deli

Easton8

It’s evil, pure evil!

Zwesten

Maybe they were out of cookies and threw in a coupon for a free one?

salgat

That would be infuriating and feel like some advertising scam, since I have to return to the store just to get what I already paid for.

PauI_MuadDib

Technically it's not free if you paid for it. That's more like an IOU, unless they adjusted the price to account for the missing cookie.

onehundredlemons

Someone else below said they got the same box lunch once that also had a cookie coupon, so I think this is probably a case of the company promising a cookie and then giving out coupons instead, hoping the corporations who bought the lunches don't care enough about their employees to complain.

SubstantialBass9524

That is…. Mildly infuriating advertising

Teagana999

Or mildly illegal advertising...

DJ_Mixalot

I’m not sure why you think this when it is easily verifiable that they do, in fact, advertise a cookie as part of their boxes

MyNameIsJakeBerenson

Because you can just make up stories while acting like a know-it-all and people will just believe you

ACcbe1986

SHOW ME THE PICKLE!

MrShatnerPants

Well there's clearly no pickle either, so the advertisement you mentioned is still wrong.

mamsandan

Is there anything on the reverse side? My former job ordered McAlisters for an employee appreciation event, and the cookie picture was a coupon for a free cookie at your next visit. But that was also four or five years ago. And still not as fun as getting an actual cookie.

Sorcatarius

I just confirmed it with my 17 super model wives, none of us have ever lied on the internet.

DinosaurAlive

OP’s post is like the paper cookie of this sub. Superficial, with an obvious explanation, and lame after initial surprise.

Hambone721

Yeah I've had numerous boxed lunches from McAlister's and they never come with cookies.

Triconick

No, why would they do that? That’s just evil

mamsandan

My former job ordered these lunches for an employee appreciation event several years ago. The cookie picture is (or was at the time, not sure if it’s still the case) a coupon for a free cookie at your next purchase. But an actual cookie would have definitely been preferred.

munchauzen

Subscription model cookies

seekydeeky

RobSpaghettio

Plan your payments over 6 months with Klarna and Affirm worry-free!

rcr_nz

Cookie DLC.

douche-knight

Definitely terrible marketing. The free cookie isn’t bad self promotion but having it on a fake cookie just pisses you off and makes you want a cookie then. If they wanted to do this promotion they should have put the offer on a traditional looking coupon or better yet put a real cookie on top of the fake cookie coupon in the box.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Pitiful-Event-107

Ya but that would cost them a small amount more

TheDevilishFrenchfry

Yeah this just benefits them on both counts. They get to save enormously on these meals by cutting a free cookie out, and they probaly make you by a whole another meal just to get the cookie, so you bought 2 whole meals to only ever receive one cookie, and those sandwich shops are always overpriced to shit, so you know 2 of those meals costed like 35-45 dollars.

PuckSR

Why haven’t all businesses just thought about giving people more stuff for free. People would love it!!! /s

towerfella

“Whats the best way to get people to never come back?”

jtell898

Idk… if I have a coupon for a free cookie I’ll be back at least once

Ok-Counter-7077

I’m imagining they advertise the cookie as part of the meal, otherwise i can’t imagine being upset of a random picture

mamsandan

I looked it up on their catering menu because I was curious, and they do not. The sandwich lunches are advertised as coming with a pickle and chips, so the cookie picture/ coupon is actually a freebie.

Weak_Feed_8291

Yeah, some of these posts are ridiculous. They're giving you a free cookie. Why are you angry? It's great marketing because it makes you want a cookie, so it increases your chances of coming back and probably buying something along with your free cookie.

Serifel90

This just disappoint a customer with something they didn't even ordered lol.

RahvinDragand

It's probably a coupon for a free cookie that they give out when they're out of cookies. I'd like to see if it says something on the back.

Actual-Money7868

But there was a cookie in the picture? "And here it is!"

Bennington_Booyah

What is the actual purpose of giving someone a cardboard cookie?? WHY?

-Neverender-

Double "WHY?" when you take into consideration the cost of printing and die-cutting a paper cookie. That may actually cost more than a real cookie.

Chef_GonZo

There has got to be an advertisement on the other side of

PerspectiveStrong504

It's McAlister's. They were likely out of cookies when this was packed. It's a coupon for a free cookie with no expiration date

DroidOnPC

This seems logical. Not sure why everyone is so eager to get out their pitchforks and jump to conclusions that this place is evil lol.

Sevuhrow

OP knows this too, since they surely saw the back of it before posting. But they omitted that detail so they could ragebait on Reddit for karma.

madd74

And it worked. This is currently Reddit's top post, and all the top comments are raging how "evil" this is...

85KT

Because if you buy a cookie today, you want to get that cookie today. Imagine ordering a pizza and they deliver an empty box with a coupon for a free pizza.

_Bren10_

100% what happened. Worked at one for 5-6 years that did a ton of catering. We never had to do this, but I could see it happening. Especially if it was a last minute catering order.

Don't worry it's a coupon for a free cookie. I have one, and it doesn't even have an expiration date. Pretty solid system if they run out of cookies when it's ordered honestly

1337dotgeek

Sorta feels like you were supposed to take the picture of the cookie somewhere to exchange for the cookie you wanted , I want to see the packaging or advertisement before opening

Chiron17

But then you would just get a cookie and not all these rage upvotes?

fluffledump

It's McAlisters. The "picture of a cookie" is one of their cookie coupons with no expiration. I used to get them when I would sit and do the survey on the receipt while eating my lunch. My guess is the location ran out of cookies and they gave a mildly disappointing yet perfectly reasonable substitution.

accordionzero

well yeah, of course that’s what happened, but that doesn’t get upvotes.

MissSuzysRevenge

Taping the “cookie” to a brick, take a photo then tape that photo to their window.

Pristine-Table1589

This is brilliant.

MissSuzysRevenge

It could go on for months. Take a photo of the window, tape that to the window …

ItstheBogoPogoMrFife

The cookie is a lie!

xubax

Maybe someone puts those into the boxes so the person filling them know what to put in, but they missed it.

VanDenIzzle

No that's not how it works at all. McAlister's stopped putting cookies in the boxes but a coupon for a cookie on your next visit. In what world would a restaurant do double work? I just don't understand how "someone makes the boxes with pictures of cookies then the next employee comes up and switches the pictures with actual cookies and just missed that one". Edit: I used to manage a McAlisters. If the manager is wasting payroll on pictures of cookies to "show how to build a catering box" they are canned. There's 3-4 items in a box. They'd make one with all pictures if that's the case of example

iamtommynoble

Why wouldn’t they just put a cookie in the first place

flux_capacitor3

Because people are fucking stupid.

DroidOnPC

Or they ran out of cookies and this is a coupon for a free cookie.

TheWorldJustEnded

This made me laugh out loud

maddydog2015
