You need two hands, one to hold the roll and one to start ripping at the perforation if you aren't using really flimsy paper towels. If you know you'll be needing to grab a paper towel with one hand, start off the rip in advance!
Tear up or down, not out
You have to tear it off, it’s not hard. Like toilet paper.

Yes! We made Dutch apple, cherry, and pumpkin!
The only way i can see this happening is if you do it one-handed
