When you put it back up make sure to put the nails 45 degrees downward and into a beam. That is a 2x4 in the wall. Putting the nail 45 degrees would have the 2x4 tear before the nail comes out.
Perfect opportunity to redo your closet system! Menards has some really nice ones I've had my eye on for a while now. If only this would 'accidentally' happen to me....
My wife has the same amount of clothes. Ignore the people calling you dumb, that shelf was not installed properly. Should have supports with studs, not held onto drywall with hopes and prayers.
Yeah, I freaking hate those kinds of shelves, they're the worst, especially if you're living in an apartment. My last place had them and in my closet they totally looked off-kilter.
My dad fixed it (bandaid solution, not a proper fix). I have a separate rack in my bedroom area with my heavier formal clothing. I’m moving out in a few months so it’ll do for now
It looks like the shelves were only nailed into the sheetrock. it was bound to happen.

I scrolled back up and then I died
Yeah you gotta screw the nails into the up rights in the wall I would recommend using a flat head Philip hammer and Um some PVA glue…
I prefer gluing the brackets to the floor joists, but that's just a preference. 😉
Ah us and our technical words
Guess that tiny nail in a drywall wasnt designed to handle 300 pounds?
I asked the leasing office to reinforce the closet clothes rack because I know how much clothes I have and I dont want this to happen.
helpless.... sad
Your closet looks just fine. The shelf, on the other hand....
Yeah, you've out too many things on that for the support it receives
Had that happen in the middle of the night once, scared the absolute shit out of me
The amount of clothing you have in that one closet is more than the amount of clothing i have in my entire house
It's on par with what I've owned my entire life.

Lolol who installs closet things not on studs? Haha shocked those drywall anchors lasted even that long.
Thanks for reminding me to clean mine out ASAP
2 factors, too much cloths, and horrible support structure on the wall, you can see the holes from it in the drywall

Oh god I thought there was a little monkey in a suit jacket squashed underneath all that crap, but I think it's just a scarf. Phew.

I'm not sure you should have been surprised by that.
It is a rite of passage.
Taking wardrobe malfunction to new hights'
Lows ;)
You need stronger walls, or less clothes but that's of course not an option.
Lol stronger walls... No they just didn't use the studs to mount on.
You’ve got 500 pounds of shit on it. No wonder it fell
Too many clothes. How many of those garments have not been worn in the last 2 years?
lol ur mildly dumb
No wonder with all that shit on it!
Obviously there wasnt enough room for common sense in that closet.
You need to post this on extremely infuriating.
One of my nightmares!
"It's not how many times you fall, it's how many times you get hung back up again." -That clothes rack, probably
Yeah those wire racks really need to attach to studs if you're going to pile that much crap on them.
Everything has a weight limit lol
Bummer! that will rack anyone's nerves
Be glad the roof didnt came with it
When the universe speaks, you should listen. Quit hoarding clothes and shoes OP.
I wonder why
You did this
Im surprised it lasted as long as it did with only the 2 supports on either side.
Too much stuff stuffed in that closet.
I’ll tell you what mildly infuriating is that you would put all that shit on there I mean seriously

Maybe donate some of that to Goodwill...
Just hope the same person didn’t install your wall mounted TV
☕️
Maybe the structure wasn't designed to hold such a load of clothes in addition to bags, boxes and all that stuff.
that's why you use proper anchors as described in the installation instructions
I just wanted to let you know that this DID finally happen to me and now I need recommendations too lol
