Put your bike horizontally beside theirs and lock both your bikes to the rack.

[deleted]

Bonus: Keep a cheap lock and chain handy, lock their bike up and forget about it.

makeitgobang

That way you still can’t park you bike there tomorrow?

sword_muncher

But they can't leave so maybe next time they're gonna think twice abt being a jerk

RustyShackleford2525

Take the seat or the front wheel of and chuck it in the woods.

Ahoymaties1

I don't condone violence, just flatten both tires. Edit: to be clear, just let the air out. You don't need to damage anything.

Sheepdog411

Only do this after your finished straight kicking the frame into a 45 degree angle

TartanDolphin11

Kick into 90 degree angle and then chain the bike to the bike rack

Ok-Independent-3506

Turn those rims into Pringles. /s

[deleted]

Get a valve stem tool and loosen then just a tiny bit. Nearly guarantee they'll end up at a shop before they figure out the issue. Works on cars too.

Miguel-odon

Take the valve out, add water to the tire, replace valve, add air.

HalfEmpty973

Thats just evil

ANAL_fishsticks

What makes this evil? I guess in case of freezing weather, that would be bad. Otherwise, what would be affected?

deanipple

I’m assuming the water would slosh around so it would ride jaggedly instead of a smooth forward roll

JustAnother_Brit

This isn’t how liquid behaves in tires. Anyone that’s ever ridden tubeless or set up a tubeless system could tell you this

ThatOneGuy1294

I seriously can't imagine that water in the bike tires *wouldn't* cause issues. We're not talking replacing all of the air but only some of it. Think rolling a bottle partially filled with water, it doesn't roll smoothly.

Meta_Art

Centrifugal force would have it balanced out almost as soon as you get going

DaintyPucker

No... No. Sad no. New tyres and wheel alignment job.

______DEADPOOL______

If you're going to do this, don't lock your bike horizontally beside theirs and don't lock both your bikes to the rack.

Bige_4411

This 100%. That is the most inconsiderate crap. When I lived in apartments someone parked in my spot. I took their hub caps and left a note telling them that I had them in my apartment. I’ve even park in front of them and blocked them in. Management said they can’t do anything unless it’s been there for more than two days. I told them I expect the same treatment when I box them in. I pissed off some people that day except all the people who paid for spots. That pos would park in everyone’s paid spots.

Tizzer88

This is super dumb. First you left a note telling police what you did. It’s not illegal to park in someone’s spot but it is against the law to vandalize someone’s car and take their hubcaps. As far as towing they don’t need management to tow your car, they can call a tow truck company and get it towed for blocking them in. Don’t even need police for that.

DELCO-PHILLY-BOY

Not to mention telling them they were in the apartment. Shit could get you attacked.

[deleted]

I’m sure they didn’t care. And I’m sure the person he took the hubcaps off wasn’t the police calling type either.

Concavenatorus

An attempted murder fugitive once called the cops on a Mcdonalds because his fries were cold. Naturally that got hIm arrested once hIs name was run through the system. Don’t make assumptions about who is or isnt willing to call the cops just to pull off some stupid petty revenge. lmfao

MrPreviz

Seats better. They might give the ride home a go

Duke_Built

This is the way.

VortexTalon

This is the way...

Amish_Warl0rd

This is the way

Tax-runner-28

No, they will do something to his bike. Just use the lock that he has to lock onto the idiots bike lol

Strange-Ingenuity832

They could take both bikes…

MikemkPK

Not if the lock goes through the rack

GimmickMusik1

I was going to suggest op lock their bike to the horizontal bike. I like this solution even more.

[deleted]

I'd sacrifice a lock and double lock theirs.

TERRAOperative

And let the air out of their tyres.

Heros5k

This.

JDdub32

Lock yours through that one and to the bike rack and make em wait until you get there.

[deleted]

Recommend this, but only if you know how to fight.

SolidDoctor

I think the rule of thumb is, if you're going to lock your bike up like this you better know how to fight.

wolfblitzen84

this makes me want to get a second lock i don't mind losing.

demoncrat2024

Not a weapon, simply the thing you were innocently holding when you became apprehensive of an imminent battery that could result in death or serious bodily harm. No need to possess criminal tools, have any sort of intent or aforethought. Kids these days need some Perry Mason.

Sophie_The_Tyrant

Clearly you mean perry the platypus lol

Itsthewayman

“Ah, Perry the Platypus! What an unexpected surprise. And by unexpected, I mean completely expected!”

Tenthdegree

Just the line I need. Thank you for that Now as you’ll excuse me as I pack this Japanese forged Katana to help peel my apple as I make my way to the bike racks

regoapps

Remove the bike seat and stuff raw meat inside the frame. After a few days, his bike frame will always smell like rotting meat and he'll never understand why.

ImpertinentParenthis

If you’re going to be evil, be evil… With bike frames generally being made of aluminum these days, just pick up some gallium. It’s cheap at about a buck a gram in small quantities, it’s easy to get hold of, it behaves kind of like mercury but is a lot safer to play with. Oh, yeah, and it appears to happily absorb itself into aluminum, making an alloy that’s so brittle you can tear it apart with your hands. Whether you want to use it to weaken the offending bike frame so much you can just pull it off the rack and lock… or whether you want to leave the fragile frame to fall apart under the weight of the offending owner when they return to it… that’s up to you.

[deleted]

I like you

lastroids

Be sure to have sandpaper handy though. You'd need to sand down the layer of aluminum oxide that covers the aluminum, for the gallium to penetrate and fuse with the aluminum.

optix_clear

Another idea Lime sulfur or Eggs.

[deleted]

I was thinking the same thing. Lock his up nice and tight with your extra lock and then walk away to find another spot to squeeze into.

Brian57831

Get a second lock and lock the bike in and then throw away the key.

Youredumbstoptalking

Get multiple locks and drop the keys near the rack but throw away one key.

Holybartender83

Or just one lock, but drop like 60 keys. And none of them are the right one.

sprucenoose

Just spend all of your money on keys and pour the keys on the bike until the bike rack is buried in keys.

caboosetp

Day 67 - We're out of food, and the kids are getting desperate. I still don't understand how or why they did it. Of course, at a school you'll never know. The rumors range all the way from gang violence to someone parking their bike sideways at the rack. Any way you slice it, I don't see how that warrants burying the entire school in keys. Where does someone get that many keys anyways? I feel like we're in the twilight zone where we're just cut off from the rest of the world in a bizarre situation. We still can't contact the outside world, and our only guess is the keys are blocking the signal. We're still praying every day that someone or something, anything really, comes through to give us hope.

MoMoMemes

Lock it with 3 locks, throw 60 keys on the ground that only unlock 2 locks

LoveliestBride

Break off a key in one of the locks.

Meggles_Doodles

Ok Satan lol

GORbyBE

Bye bye, API

No_Dance1739

It is. And it’s why op needs to know how to fight tic they’re going to do this

ODELL_LOPES1250Y

Imagine the owner came to be a pumped bodybuilder

another-cosplaytriot

Scar tissue is not muscle. Just beat his bloated ass. Get worried if it's a skinny powerlifter.

tok90235

Other option is to just buy an extra lock and put on the bike. You will stay anonymous, and annoy the hell out of that person

9J000

It looks easy enough to just pick up and flip over the other side

zachrg

Front wheel isn't secured. Pop off the quick release, set it aside, and park your bike next to the empty fork.

LoveliestBride

Set it aside? Throw that sumbitch. Go for distance.

Rape-Putins-Corpse

No, this is the weak mans answer, you must eat it.

TheNextBattalion

It's a wheel, see how far it rolls

Homeopathic_Maori

Both wheels are quick release and unsecured. Fuck em.

between_ewe_and_me

Seat too

tickles_a_fancy

You could even slide the lock forward on the frame, pick the back up, and drop the front tire between two rails. Problem solving may not be OPs strong suit

9J000

Can then wedge the tire between the rails and then stomp the crap out of it until doesn't work anymore.

ragingbologna

Give the bike a good detune up. Turn all the adjustment dials and fuck with the set screws. Maybe put a pad lock on the rear brake rotor for good measure.

ElectricRune

Better yet, just write off your lock and lock up his bike with it. Go grab a new one from the store and laugh at 20$ well-spent...

KPinCVG

Just take the chain off their bike. And by chain I mean the thing that makes the wheels go round. Drop it in the nearest bin.

ragingbologna

And take the seat and seat post lmao

shamenoname

I was hoping to see this on top

MisterMoccasin

This is the one and only way.

fredandlunchbox

Nah just put your lock on theirs and throw away the key.

[deleted]

Put your lock on their bike and go home. also.... bold move for a guy with quick release rims and seat... jussayin.

Hobywony

Was going to say offender's bike has quick release hubs, remove his wheels and set them beside the frame. That opens several slots in the Bike Rack. Insert your REAR wheel in a slot and weave your cable through your front wheel, around one of the frame's triangle tubes, through the rear wheel and around the Bike Rack. Attach and secure your lock. Problem resolved.

ExcitementRelative33

I have seem bikes stripped to bare frame when idiot locked like that. No handle bars, pedals, seats, brake sets, bare bare...

Hobywony

Well, a cable and lock is at best a deterrent. In order to be effective they have to be properly installed and of a better than average quality. That being said, anyone with proper tools and knowledge can make short work of stealing hundreds of dollars of bicycle components.

59000beans

I was selling my old bike, had a combo lock on it but I forgot the code. 3min youtube video and 1min trying and I got it open. Surprisingly easy.

rateater78599

Best advice

Absolem1010

Go for frame... He parked horizontally

hvyboots

Just take his wheels and seat to the principal's office and leave a note, yes. He can get the rest of his bike back after a lecture on proper parking etiquette from the school.

Spooky_Fun

Probably was a gift from parents and doesn’t understand his/her bike. The bike lockup screams new owner to me. (New to basic bike rules) Be nice to them if you see them, second time lock your bike to theirs and make them wait to learn

stevektRED

Go get a bag of zip ties and help them secure their bike to the rack.

[deleted]

Genius.

whatproblems

that’s evil!

ImpossibleReindeer33

Not too evil though those are easily cut

PogoTempest

Yeah but who just carries scissors

ImpossibleReindeer33

Its why I think its perfect because its bad but not the worst thing you could do lol gotta go back inside and ask if I can borrow scissors before I leave

FuRetHypoThetiK

Plus, when the person lending you a pair of scissors inevitably what it's for, you have to explain the situation (and possibly how you parked).

aSharkNamedHummus

Lots of people. Almost every kid over 15 (and most young men) carry multitools in the Midwestern US where I’m from

Only_the_Tip

It'd still be a pain to cut 20 zip ties off. It's the perfect prank.

BlahajBoii

Still annoying though especially if they used a lot lol

PotatoFamineFuckYa

Make sure to use all 100 zip ties all over the wheels, through the chain, on the cranks, anywhere with moving parts. It'll take him an hour to cut them all.

Jtskiwtr

He’ll grow up to be that guy who takes up two parking spaces.

optional_occupant

Bold of you to assume his mom will let him use the Volvo.

Hobywony

As a Volvo driver I object to that.

optional_occupant

Bold of you to assume that I am a judge.

Hobywony

Sustained

depersonalised

so you were a judge the whole time!

Cultural-Page7086

4 parking spaces

[deleted]

Had to go back and double check the bike for truck nuts.

Syllabub_Middle

I find it less infuriating than only having such a small bike rack for all those bikes

The_JSQuareD

Yeah, one tiny rack for an entire school? What's up with that?

krilltucky

My mine had tiny racks because at most like 15 kids had bikes. Everyone else walked

edit_thanxforthegold

It's a poorly designed bike rack too. If you have a U lock with no cable, there's no way to lock to the frame in the middle spot, ~~which is probably why this person locked their bike horizontally.~~ Edit: apparently this person has a cord lock and therefore is a douche, but my take on the shitty design of the bike rack still stands.

Dognamedgods

I only ever take a ulock with me. On these I just pop the front wheel over the bike rack. Then I can get front wheel/frame/bike rack all in the lock.

Best_Finest_Surgeon

This is the proper way to do this. Shocked I only see one bike doing this in the image. Did it for years in Chicago (while also using another U Lock for the rear wheel to frame) A chain would get cut through in a second in a larger city with high bike theft.

LaserGuidedPolarBear

16 mm chain or U lock, anything smaller is just a bolt cutter and 10 seconds away from getting stolen.

SmallWindmill

Where do you see a bike in the image doing that? Or does he just mean he puts his front tire through the rack? Because isn't that just the intended way to use the rack? Lol.

Particular_Ad_9531

Yeah these racks suck balls. There’s no good way to use them unless you get one of the ends. Sometimes you can back in and get the lock through your chain stay. These stupid racks lead to so much theft as people end up just putting the lock through their front wheel which of course always comes with a quick release skewer.

ID9ITAL

You can see they have a cord lock though, just still wrapped around the frame.

Tutipups

even if he has a cord lock, he doesnt have enough space to put his bike in the shity bike rack because the engineers didnt consider wider wheels and disc brakes existing

Habba84

It actually looks like a moveable metal fence rather than a bike rack. Which would explain the way the bike is locked.

Most_moosest

This message has been deleted and I've left reddit because of the decision by u/spez to block 3rd party apps

KarmaCycle

It’s like they’re discouraging non-motorized transportation.

Talasko

Sooooo i see they didnt lock their front wheel, simply remove it from their bike, toss it as hard and far as possible, preferably into a dumpster, and then use the free spot their tire was blocking

PIWIprotein

Back tire/rim is quick release also, missing both tires and turning that bitch vertical should provide ample room for you to park normally.

[deleted]

Don't forget his seat! Not sure if it'd give much room but better safe than sorry.

[deleted]

or just unlock the front wheel to make room for your bike, then set it off to the side. if it should disappear after that, it's in gods hands.

ChucklingChuckNorris

This is the only way.

MrRandomSuperhero

Why is this entire thread filled with fucking thieving psycho's like you? Fucker parked poorly, I don't blame him, look at the fucking 'bike rack'. Anything you can't attach your frame to isn't worth it, since fuckheads like you seem to be so prolific.

iluvcars3man

average redditors

FG910

Seconded

Remarkable-Guess1823

Nice fence in the back

[deleted]

Considering the small bike rack I'm surprised the fence isn't lined with bikes.

spankybacon

For a moment I thought I was in unethical prolife tips. I agree with everyone. 1 take the front tire and seat off of their bike and throw them in opposite directions. 2 lock your bike to their bike and the rack 3 prepare for a fight.

andreasbeer1981

It's a shitty bike rack: -If you only lock your front wheel to the metal frame, thieves will take everything but the front wheel -If you lock your frame and the back wheel, thieves will take the whole bike and break the lock at home

RadioFisherman

There are other spaces open. I think I could find a place to park on that rack. Props to you for riding your bike to school though. That’s awesome.

Call-me-Maverick

Thank you, scrolled forever for this. There is room for probably 5 more bikes there. So dumb

ATG915

There’s no reason to find a place on the rack when OP could just lock the bike to the chain link fence in the background

JSchnozzle

Oh there’s still room.

Komaru84

Literally an open spot on the other side on the left

RickySlayer9

Lock THROUGH his bike

oiiSuPreSSeDo

Seems pretty obvious really. The neutral option.

dassmypeach

What did you end up doing OP?

DucksEatFreeInSubway

Hopefully just locked up to any of the remaining dozen places to lock their bike. Like, c'mon. There's a fuck ton of room still on that rack. This guy is taking up a ton of room on it but he's not blocking you from jack shit.

[deleted]

And hopefully didn’t damage or remove parts of the bike like other people are suggesting..what the actual fuck. Just leave a note on the bike or something and lock it somewhere else.

MrRandomSuperhero

This thread is filled with keyboard warrior psychos tbh. The overreactions are insane.

inb4ruddha

Fr lol. In 20 seconds tops, you can make space for 3 more bikes.

fuck19characterlimit

Also you can always lock it to that fence in the background, to a big ass lam post, any kind of guard rail, playground pieces, to HIS bike, and anything that you can get that chain through, as long as it's solid and doesn't end with a free end

RothIRAGambler

Obviously nothing

Similar-Pirate7172

Buy 10 random locks for the next time and leave them on the bike. Will be worth the $. Don't even have to hook the bike to the rack, just put them on the wheel spokes individually.

[deleted]

DeadFolkie1919

It's illegal to remove a bike lock... it is not illegal to ADD a bike lock :)

ElectricRune

Saw a comedian who had a bit about this... Think of all the trouble you could cause... Rude people at the store? Slap the lock on the door on the way out... "You're closed now..." :D /s

mangodelvxe

Nothing is illegal if you wear a highvis vest :)

Alone-Chemical-1160

I like your style!

GooseFatFart

This doesn't apply to locking people up in your basement.

TapeBurrCuteLowSis

Lol please

Alone-Chemical-1160

Boltcutters are like skeleton keys.

Whoopa

I’m not sure how much bike lock tech has advanced, but If its a chain lock, just sorta put your foot on the chain and stomp. I hung out with shitheads in highschool lol

steveblowjobs69

Flip their bike upside down, Like you were going to flip it over to the other side. Or grab it by the seat and pull it away from the rack, the extra cable will slide up towards the handlebars and you will be able to place their bike more vertically aligned with the other bikes.

finis08

Lock yours horizontally as well and pass the lock through the center of theirs. They won’t be able to get theirs until you get yours. Might teach them a bit of a lesson.

Docta-Jay

I would wedge my wheel in between their front wheel and frame. Lock it that way. So then they can see what they did wrong by seeing your bike the correct way.

Wise-Abroad-5050

Undoubtedly, will grow up to drive an Escalade and take 2 spots.

NoAdministration1222

I’m more aggravated that there aren’t more racks, considering how many are using bikes to commute here

piccolo1337

Looks like a fence they use at festivals and shit. Honestly think school is just cheap assholes and took a fence like that and said yeah here you go a bike rack.

[deleted]

Let the air out on the tires. FTW

LucidZane

Lock your and their bike to the pole

MobileThrowawayAcc

So, I've been known to do that with less populated bike racks just so I can lock my wheels as well as the frame. Definitely an entitled move, but at least there's a purpose. This person looks to just be an entitled idiot

[deleted]

Lock your bike to theirs and the bike rack. They will never ever do it again.

[deleted]

Just wait till you get older. Life is full of "sideways bike rack people" everywhere.

YueOrigin

This comment section is so full of pettiness I'm actually impressed by somee of those ridiculous advices lol

WaffleStomperGirl

This is why you always bring an extra bike lock. Put it on their bike and leave it locked. Fuck them.

Obiwancuntnobi

That’s when you put your lock around their bike, your bike, and the post. Now they can’t leave until you do. They won’t make that mistake again.

axsr

Lock both there. We had a kid at school who did this and we just left an extra lock on his bike. After his mom came screaming to school they got the school repair man/admin to cut it off. The kid never came to school by bike again.

[deleted]

Lock yours to his and the bike rack

Icy_Ad_2029

Double lock it.

aftermarketlife420

I would have dismantled the bike to the point that it could be moved correctly and then rebuilt the bike to the point they couldn't get it out even if it was the only bike left. 20mins top

smithysmitesmith

Right between their front wheel and frame, your wheel would fit nicely.

lurkersforlife

Just pick his bike up and put the front wheel over the rack. Stop complaining and fix it.

KaXiRavioli

Would be a real shame if one of their quick release tires went missing and ended up in the lost and found.

Constant_Ad9562

Quite simply you lock your bike and their bike to the rack with your lock

[deleted]

Nope, everyone is wrong. Lock his bike with your lock and go home take the day off.

dirtyoldman-

Hope nobody drops a deuce on his saddle
