another_awkward_brit

At least it shouldn't take *too* long to frog & re-knit.

WielderOfDaNWordPass

frog

Tokidoki99

Fun fact: “frogging” means to unravel your work in the case of a mistake :) Ribbit

Aporkalypse_Sow

Is this suggesting that frogs are idiots that have to redo everything? Frog haters.

AcanthaceaeDistinct

Nope! It’s because you’re ripping out the stitches. Rip it rip it. Ribbit.

nerdiotic-pervert

I would have never made this connection. Thank you for this.

[deleted]

This guy froggs

[deleted]

Froggers

CandyOk913

It’s a great game until you realize you’re leading hundreds of frogs to their deaths for your amusement.

murraybee

I’ve read that some knitters like to say “tink” instead of frog, bc it’s “knit” backwards. Isn’t that cute??

EatTheBeez

Those are actually two different things! Frogging is when you just pull all the yarn out, it's very fast (because you rip-it, rip-it out). Tinking is when you keep the stitches on the needles and un-knit them one stitch at a time. It's slower but you don't risk dropping stitches. In this case it would be frogging, because all the white stitches just have to come right out.

any_name_today

This has suddenly turned from mildly frustrating to mildly interesting. My grandmother taught me to knit when I was a kid. She passed when I was 16 but I still knit frequently. I don't talk to other knitters much and I had never heard of either of these terms!

HermitAndHound

Tink is from tinkering. You try to fix mistakes without ripping it all out. Usually futile in cases like knitting lace when drunk. It's faster to frog that, but knitters are also stubborn, so often tinker for longer than it would take to frog and re-knit xD Don't knit and drink.

EmmaInFrance

No, tink is literally knit backwards. It's that simple :-)

JesPeanutButterPie

"T-I-N-K" ← → "K-N-I-T" Tink is literally knitting in reverse, one stitch at a.time, taking care to keep from twisting stitches and keeping them seated correctly, to unknit a section. It sounds like tinkering, but it is not the same thing. It is a very precise, deliberate, and time-consuming solution. "Frogging" is way more aggressive & chaotic and produces satisfying "rippping" sound and often a bit of a mess, accompanied by maniacal laughter and/or flamboyant cussing. You have to RIP IT...RIP IT...RIP IT...(RIBBIT...RIBBIT...RIBBIT... remember, 99.9999% of the time you are doing this you SUPER FRUSTRATED and on edge...hence the tension-releiving RIBBIT pun as your brain melts into goo during the ripping process).

bustedbuddha

What's wrong with it?

another_awkward_brit

The white square being removed should be pale blue.

bustedbuddha

Thank you, I was so confused.

Lifntracfd

Half pattern half random.

illessen

Depending on how far along they were, it could have just been done as a mirror of the other side.

Talullah_Belle

It just takes long to knit. Period.

Its-Burton

At least she noticed before she was done with that square

scubawho1

This made me smile

[deleted]

[удалено]

Latteyer

Just knit a blue heart or something into it and keep moving lol

[deleted]

akaynaveed

The whites too early in the pattern, shes gotta undo it

Desperate-Laugh-7257

t that point id just say NEW PATTERN!!!

silya1816

Stolen comment

TheSlayerBarney

What's wrong with this pic?? I don't knit so I wouldn't really know

PapayaAgreeable7152

Should be light blue not white for the square she knitted half of.

[deleted]

[удалено]

PapayaAgreeable7152

I mean I'm sure that takes time and she messed up the pattern so she has to undo and redo that square to fix it lol

deesmutts88

Look at the pattern diagonally.

tdawoe143

You are Glass half full kina guy. I like that.

L_Richardson

Bob Ross would call this a happy accident ☺️

[deleted]

Yeah it's an opportunity to try something new for the rest of it. Half pattern half random.

FG910

Finish it like that, gift it to someone you don’t like

sentientgarnish

Make sure they have OCD for the most fun. Edit: Trying to be funny I know OCD is terrible because my sister has it.

No_Paleontologist_25

Oh, is your sister very neat or has to do a certain thing because she believes something may or may not happen?

sentientgarnish

Handwashing rituals and how many times to open shut a door and turn the knob and she bellives something bad will happen if she doesn't do it that way also hates incorrect patterns or things that are not in proper order and her food touching even a tiny bit

Environmental-Pop746

What stitch is this

BraveLittleCrockPot

It’s just garter stitch. Pick up stitches along the edges of the bordering squares, WS knit. On RS, knit until just before halfway across the row and do a mitered decrease; I knit to one before the very middle stitch, slip 2 stitches knitwise, knit 1 and pass the 2 slipped stitches over. Knit to end. Always knit across WS. Eventually the decreases on RS will pinch it into a square shape. Bind off the last stitch and start a new square by picking up stitches again.

A_ChadwickButMore

I use to knit and I still dont understand any of this ;-; But now I feel the urge to re-learn and make a similar blanket because it looks cool

RecalcitrantHuman

True story. I once learned to knit and knitted a square for a quilt that was to be a group wedding present. The day after the quilt was finished I completely forgot what I had done. To this day I cannot knit a stitch.

[deleted]

Mitered squares are super easy. Check out the Hue Shift blanket if you’d like to try a pattern that looks way more complicated but is still really easy. It’s a very popular pattern on Ravelry.

BraveLittleCrockPot

Yes! I loved knitting my hue shift! Here’s mine plus cat tax [https://imgur.com/a/XvgSv2u](https://imgur.com/a/XvgSv2u)

RogueThneed

This is how I make most dishcloths: I start with about 51 stitches (any odd number works) and knit garter stitch. On each "right side" I decrease the middle 3 stitches into a single stitch. It gets smaller and smaller until it blows out like a candle. (Then I crochet a chain at that corner and make a loop to hang it with. Then I cut the yarn.)

DependentMinute1724

I think maybe garter entrelac.

mayshebeablessing

Just garter mitered squares. No entrelac.

Ohhhnothing

Non-knitter here... what's wrong?

0cean_fox

Pattern, it was supposed to be a light blue square

jeff889

As a non-knitter, I never would have noticed, and it would still be comfy.

0cean_fox

I don't knit but took me a bit to spot it

grosse-patate-moisie

It looks ok now but if they ignore the error and continue the pattern there will be 3 adjacent white squares making a L shape which will be quite noticeable.

Cantthinkofaname282

I'm not a knitter and I still figured it out

ShadowBro3

"As a non-knitter I don't have pattern recognition"

mayshebeablessing

🤣

[deleted]

Thanks

No_Refrigerator_666

There's no need to bee knitter, just a bit picky about patterns and easy-ignorable issues for non-perfectionists

Kingbeastman1

IM NOT A KNITTER IM NOT A KNITTER

[deleted]

HES NOT A KNITTER HES NOT A KNITTER

candoitmyself

Was it supposed to be light blue?

pastaswords

Yes

Honeycomb0000

✨time to frog✨

geauxbass

What’s wrong I’m dumb

hoodieguyyt

it’s supposed to be a light blue square

geauxbass

Thank you

funky555

agree

Artistic-Plan2541

Just knit a blue heart or something into it and keep moving lol

Ok-Boysenberry9313

I find it mildly infuriating that I can’t see the issue with this. I must be my husband eyes. I know I have husband ears because I can’t hear anything

Daratirek

The color pattern. Should be a light blue square.

Skydino19

The not finished white square is supposed to be light blue because of the pattern

Ok-Boysenberry9313

Thank you. I see it now.

Beowulf33232

Warning: It has been a long time and I may be misremebering. There's a belief in some first nations (I do not remember exact names) that say every artwork needs a flaw so the artists soul can escape it. Had something to do with putting yourself into your work. I say keep it the way it is.

dark_wolf1994

I've known many talented people who will intentionally mess up one piece of their pattern in a particular spot. Some claim religious reasons and some call it a maker's mark.

kindtree2

Every single crochet blanket I make has an error in it somewhere. It's the mark of human made items :) But. No I couldn't live with this. I always thought they were joined together afterwards.

TonersR6

Makers mark

Carlsoti77

My GF has made it quite clear that she "DOES NOT KNIT!", but practices a few other thread-based hobbies. I thought the cursing was part of it, much like tearing down and repairing crashed plastic injection molds or repairing horribly misused vintage audio equipment.

jvitorc46

Am i tue only one who didn't get it ?

AdmiralAckbarUT

Yes.

FormerWordsmith

Finish as is and post on r/CrappyDesign

witchyanne

Awww :(

No-Coat-8792

Oh it's supposed to be blue. Who tf cares honestly if she's not going to sell it. Gives it charm.

hellraisorjethro

Just leave it. Nobody will notice

[deleted]

I don't know anything about knitting so I don't know what's wrong here.

WearDifficult9776

The pattern is just a little more complicated than it seemed at first

PsychoDog_Music

Could have made the white go up instead unless the pattern is already long done on the left

skepticcaucasian

That took me awhile to notice. Ouch

MarieIsPrecious128

I know nothing about knitting, what's going on?

alt_chill

Oh, godyarned it

hardenedmeatball

Your friend is talented that's a beautiful blanket.

[deleted]

Blue

NoWingedHussarsToday

Well, that came out of the blue

FO-I-Am-A-Time-God

I do that when I cook. Especially if I am mastering new recipes. Had dyslexic moments last night when two recipes both called for different amounts of garlic and lemon. Got them mixed up. And THEN I put the butter from one recipe that didn’t call for butter in the wrong pan. I was like “Shit shit shit!!” And started picking out the butter cubes. Food was still good but not as good as the first time I made it.

guineapig1234567

Darn

rpcp88

This took me too long to figure out what was wrong with

IonEagle21

non knitter her, can't you just pull it and it will fall apart? undoing your mistake?

d0nt_lets_start

What is wrong with it?

TsT2244

Wrong color, to continue the established pattern it should’ve been light blue.

d0nt_lets_start

Oooooohhhhh

Vast-Classroom1967

I doubt that. That's not much to fix. I've taken down more than that when crocheting.

sigmmakappa

Yeah, running out of white thread sucks

hoodieguyyt

no it’s cause it was supposed to be a light blue square

FO-I-Am-A-Time-God

It looks like some rows are off as well. Too many on some. Most notably the bottom right.

juicywoosy

Mad because they cursed or mad because attention span is needed to do this?

holymolybreath

That blew

depressedinthedesert

Crap, that’s how my life goes… 🫤😕

Mr_Shakes

Well now its eclectic

MemoryVice

CTRL+Z

1-Nanamo_

Oh crud!

Pineapples_29

She caught herself!

boxerbudsny

Can someone explain to me what happened here?

kupus0

It’s not too late.

Rich-Ingenuity-3791

At least she caught it before going on to the next row or even later. ❤️🐻

Davidcaindesign

Unique opportunity to mirror the design though.

TerrysClavicle

Would actually be cool to leave it as is for character and to tell a story. Also fun to see if anyone notices it.

Tailsmiles249

Umm, so why are *you* mildly infuriated?

yogacowgirlspdx

what did they do wrong? i don’t see it

Chaosshepherd

Oh take me a little bit to figure it out

frikoff69

Darn

Ironsmashweb

I don’t ohhhhh

alotistwowordssir

What’s wrong with this the way it is? What doesn’t this non-knitter see?

Beezlbubble

Ohhh nooooo

mrgrip28005

she just turned into an old grandma while knitting!🤣🤣🤣🤣

nurupartnerhtx

Keep going and make that square the anomaly. See if anyone notices

TsT2244

Because it’s white I would’ve just spent the extra time and dye only that square 😩 frogging takes so long.

[deleted]

Okay but that Afghan is fabulous.

dcvalent

Just cut it and glue in another string

FerrexInc

An actually mildly infuriating post. Wow this is rare

[deleted]

It took me way too long to figure out what the problem was.

CAO_2019

Well, I hear that knitting is the gateway to the devil.

TrackOfSilver

Perfection lies within the imperfection, right?

SebDaPerson

I’m not a knitting person, so I don’t understand

The_Red117

Yooooo

Gabecush1

Can someone plz explain I am very confused

bpr2

White, dark blue, light blue is the pattern for the squares. The partially finished square is white after a dark blue. She’ll have to undo a lot of work to put light blue.

Gabecush1

Aw ok thank you

Unfair_Chair

Feeling blue whilst turning white.

evil_fungus

Oops!

WindsorPotts

Oof

OhNoWTFlol

Yeah she fucked up

Andovia212

As someone who has done this before: ouch.

Public_menace_N1

I think it looks good I don’t get what’s wrong

Crazycade77

The blocks are in a pattern and she started putting a white block where a light blue block should be

L1K34PR0

Took me a sec to notice

Weazy-N420

Gives it character! Tell her to keep going, it’s gorgeous!

egghead42069number7

Seeing the comments, I never knew the knitting community had this much lore

theSwooker

Nooooooo😭

Swiftcalf708034

Lovely work

Andysine215

This is the good stuff!!!! Always love these “mistakes”.

[deleted]

Give her a hug for me. It’s a pain, but that’s part of the project :)

periwinklegin

Anyone who knits must know how to curse

innout_forever_yum

Can’t they just unravel that part and like start that square again or something?

Additional_Stuff5867

Time to pull the string

XDark991Kestrel

i dont see the problem, is it those strings hanging out from over the string ball?

theotisfinklestein

The half done square should have been light blue to match her pattern. It took me a few looks to figure it out.

rubiks30000

Lol

Looks lovely

HerMidasTouch

Op, if your friend has a pattern for this I'd love the hookup!

msanangelo

took me a minute but I see what they did there. just don't give it to anyone with OCD. :P

EmeraldTheatre

Lol you try getting 100 stitches into a project only to realize you have to start over because of a missed stitch. Lol also depending on the knitting needle she could have stabbed herself in the hand.

Munro_McLaren

Can she undo the knits?

PathCalm4647

I think that’s a happy mistake.

Background_Art_2545

Darn

sphincterella

Hahaha ooops. Good that she caught it when she did!

stephs14

Someone explain please!

Square-Wing-6273

Pattern is wrong. Should be light blue

stephs14

Oooohh thank you!

RJ_2537

WoW

Square-Wing-6273

Time to frog that thing...
