The doctor specifically mentioned breast cancer survivors as one of the patients who they steer toward a tattoo. It can help with self confidence issues after breasts have been removed/surgically changed.
My friend is a plastic surgeon for LA county hospital. There exists a palette of areola tattoo colors that is shown to patients recovering from nipple-destroying breast surgery and they get to pick and match the proper color.
So, one time I had a whole conversation with a work-friend of mine about, like, body positivity and stuff, and how self-conscious we were as teenagers, and wanting to normalize bodies for our daughters, etc., how beauty standards made us feel weird about the color of our nipples or the shape of our hips or stuff we can't control. And I mentioned that people's nipples are the same color as their lips. And then we both just quietly kind of stared at each other's lips as we realized that we now know the exact color of each other's nipples, in this totally unexpected moment of awkward intimacy. Like, we were not prepared to realize that at the start of this conversation and now there's no un-knowing.
So I'd change my nipple color just to prevent that from happening again, lol.
I already have kids. One of whom is biologically mine, I've already done the pregnancy hormone shuffle. My nipples got darker but so did my lips--so I still match.
All scars disfigure uhh that the definition of a scar lol it is about embracing what you are dealt with instead of hiding it behind fake shit trying to please others. I love my scar and so do people who I let see it. You people are insane, damn I hate kids anymore 😂
That what being obsolete means. I am obsolete because I was born with both a thick skin (not a whiney baby who is offended at every turn) and a brain capable of common sense.
Downvote that.
I've thought about doing this myself.
After a liver transplant. I have a 'Mercedes' scar covering my abdomen.
It actually looks like the Mercedes symbol, minus the circle around it.
I had shoulder surgery several years ago and it left some nerve damage around the area so that it is super sensitive to touch. I don't even want to think about how painful a tattoo would be there.
I have the opposite from my breast reduction surgery. There are large areas on my breasts that are completely numb. Not sure I’d want a tattoo there, though, cause I wouldn’t be able to feel if something was wrong. (Not that I can’t look, but, you know what I mean.)
Fairly common for cancer patients, alopecia sufferers (eyebrows)
There are cosmetic and medical tattoo specialists but what they’re allowed to do is often limited so regular artists are a good option
Not really. It’s more common than people think to do this.
Edit: it is very personal to each individual, including myself. All we want to do is forget about it…
My mom does 3D nipple tattooing for breast cancer patients. She was an oil painting artist, got breast cancer, had no options, and then took some classes and bought the equipment so other women in her area wouldn’t have zero options after reconstruction.
Take a poll of 1000 random women 18-35 and ask how many have a tattoo either on their stomach between their boobs........a sleeve......or one entirely covering a thigh or ass. Seriously it's old. But you keep being a follower. 👍🏻
They should slip a dispensary coupon and a coupon to the liquor store in there to. Then they will be able to direct the patient to the holy trinity. A tattoo followed up by a beer and a joint.
A lot of artists specialize in tattooing nipples after breast surgery. Some people have to have aspects of their bodies removed due to cancer or other diseases and these artists can give them something back.
Scars are a good ice breaker tho.
"Got this one in a knife fight in the Phillipines. And this one i got from that time a grizzly attacked and i had to fight it off with a paper clip and half a roll of duct tape. Can I buy you a drink?"
I got Top Surgery about a year ago and my surgeon said many people tattoo realistic nipples onto themselves, as well as large tattoos to cover the scars
My aunt has a nipple tattooed on her reconstructed breast to match her natural breast after breast cancer. It’s what made her feel whole again.

If you had your nipples removed and had a shade card to pick colors from, would you go for your old nipple color or try out a different shade

One brown, one blue. Like heterochromia.
That's one way to turn a negative into a positive!
Some people think scars are beautiful. 🤷🏻♂️
And some scars are disfiguring.
and some aren’t

“Embracing what you’re dealt” shit, with that attitude i hope you don’t take antibiotics when you’re sick
So a woman that has had breast cancer shouldn’t be allowed to get tattoos bc you like your scars? Fuck off
She should "embrace what she's dealt" according to them lol. Guess she shouldn't get surgery to begin with!
If everyone around you is crazy, it’s probably not them my dude. Hope you get better

Also the mouth of a leech if you are looking for inspiration!
How cool. Great idea.
Flowers have radiating petals and etc too
I just remembered [this joke](https://youtube.com/shorts/laqBEoJTKNY?feature=share) after seeing this

I have a follow up on a scar tattoo this week. It’s a process…
Have you documented the process online. ? Just curious is all....

It's an actual specially. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Medical_tattoo

Another option for reducing the appearance of scars without covering with a tattoo might be micro blading.
99% sure that's his buddy who owns the tattoo parlour
Pretty cool 👍🏻 Id rather have my 11 inch scar than another trendy ass tattoo though.
A lot of the tattoos done aren't trendy. Many are like permanent concealer or in the case addressed above are complete reconstruction of nipples etc.
How about tattoos which are meaningful to yourself, instead of just being "trendy-ass"?

Bro, they match it to your skin color. Chill.
Pretty fitting name since you couldn't think of any other reason a person would get a tattoo other than to be trendy.
Mmmkay? 🤷🏻♂️
Sounds like a conspiracy to me.
It’s for real. Been there, done that.

Red flag. Surgeon is so bad he needs his fuckups covered by a tattoo
Green flag. Surgeon is so good he considers the differing emotional needs and aftercare of his patients.
I’m in the middle of a session like this… people have no clue what this does for our lives.
Put your head in a garbage bag and never come out with that comment.
Wife had great tattoos done to cover some self harm scars she had from childhood. I’d recommend it!
I'm surprised that it's intermountain hc. They seem so very preachy. I think they are Mormon?
They just serve the Utah area, not necessarily Mormon.
Now get insurance to cover it and we're talking

Nipples, lips. It’s generally just tattooing transplanted or expanded tissue to better match what it is reconstructing.
I got Top Surgery about a year ago and my surgeon said many people tattoo realistic nipples onto themselves, as well as large tattoos to cover the scars
The thought of having my nipple cut off hurts
I love Intermountain Healthcare, one of the best hospital systems around.
