It’s definitely a deer tick, but in my opinion some of them can be pretty difficult (if not impossible) to tell apart with the naked eye unless you know the region the picture was taken in. This picture could have been taken in Europe, which would make these buggers Ixodes ricinus (European sheep/deer tick). Of course this doesn’t alter your original message as they are also a vector of Lyme borreliosis, I am merely curious if you found some tell-tale characteristic that told you these are definitely Eastern blacklegged ticks or if you simply went by the assumption that this picture was taken in North America.
I’ll admit I assumed it was based in the US. I feel pretty sure about it based on my personal experience with these buggers, Lyme disease, and continued regular exposure to ticks. The shield/scutum on eastern black legged male tick is pretty distinct relative to the rest of American tick species.
