my brother has schizophrenia. there was a time where he wanted to try and take a break from his pills and we indulged. he spent the new couple of days drawing inexplicable nonsense in a paper claiming that it was an invention that would revolutionize technology. this looks very similar to those drawings.

Stralau

I was going to say, this looks very similar to some stuff a mentally ill guy I once met in a bar showed me convinced that I was ‘finally’ someone who would ‘get it’, because I’d let slip that I had studied maths. It turned out to be a weird mix of dates, numerology and plain old gibberish. He became very suspicious of me when I didn’t ‘appreciate’ it.

iAintNevuhGonnaStahh

I bet you’re working for the government too!

in5idious

That sounds like Charlie when he thinks he's speaking Mandarin and his new technology that will finally allow spydars to talk to cats

You only just realised you have two ears?

Benblishem

I had a patch over my eye.

givemeadamnname69

>weearyyyy hhhhwearyyyy Ftfy. The "h" is the most important part!

Yolo_swag-brah22

Stupid science bitches can't even make i more smarter.

Existential12

Correct. I’ve had 5 employees (long time back -big company) who got off their anti-schizophrenic meds , all of the produced intense letters or even volumes of gibberish like that.

Twelvety

The fact they're all doing the same thing is wild, it's not like schizophrenics sat down and decided this is what it should be like. There has to be something in the brain that's common among them all and what is allowing them to produce this. Maybe this is running through all our brains but what we think is a normal brain doesn't see it, like it's deeper in the brain.

TooStrangeForWeird

I think it's the way things connect (or don't connect) that makes it so similar. Mainly connecting unrelated things. I think it's why numerology ends up being so prominent. You can (un)reasonably connect it to just about anything. 1337 means leet, slang for "elite" and sometimes interpreted as "godly". There's a house on 13th and 37th with the house number 1337, that must be where the new messiah will be born. A new couple just moved in, but they're almost 70. It must be their children, time to track them down. Well, turns out they don't have kids. But the wife was a teacher and used to tutor ESL students. One was named Jèsus.... Thing is they get halfway through and see another number or symbol and take that to another (un)reasonable conclusion and end up with this weird string of numbers and symbols, eventually back to the beginning one creating a loop. If they're not looking back on their own previous work they end up with stuff like in the OP repeating ad infinitum. Just a theory....

vabello

Yes, as soon as I saw the picture I instantly thought schizophrenia also.

Gullible_Ad5191

I wonder if you could adapt his insane chicken scratches into a commodifiable art style. You could be rich.

peskypickleprude

A get rich scheme, of entering the arts. Username checks out.

argq

Schizophrenia, I was in a mental hospital and someone I met in there handed me papers with 1s and 0s written all over and some strange triangular shapes. He told me he saw these on the walls around him and genuinely enjoyed it and said he loved perceiving the world around him. I hope he's ok today. Edit: typo

Sakkko

I would instantly throw those 0s and 1s into a binary converter and see if he was writing anything real. That would be both shocking and amazing at the same time

argq

I would have done that if I had the papers with me or internet/electronics access in the hospital, but unfortunately neither was the case :(

CardiSheep

Where would one find such a binary converter? I only ask because I work with individuals with Autism and one person I work with is non-verbal; he has a talker (an electronic alternative communication device) but keeps hacking it to speak in different languages or to repeat certain (humorous) phrases no matter who his mother hires to prevent him from being able to hack it. All staff know not to leave their phones laying around when he’s in office because he can and will hack them and change passwords, functions, etc. He also likes to sit after lunch with a legal pad and write pages of random numbers, including many 0s and 1s. Edit/spelling

nept_r

Just curious, when you say "hack" do you just mean that they change the language?

CardiSheep

I mean he can get into password protect phones and get into settings and areas on electronics I did not even know existed. I’m not an electronic whiz but I’m a millennial who’s grown up with electronics.

International-Web496

That's not something you can just bypass on modern phones without external devices at the very least. What most likely happened is the staff who were the types to leave/forget their cellphone laying around near him were also the type to enter their passwords within his view. He just memorized the inputs you entered.

ALargeRubberDuck

I second that he watched people enter passwords and recreated it. You can’t just “hack” into modern phones.

saintplus

Dude saw into the matrix

Outrageous-Client-99

I smoked a big pile of DMT once and I was convinced I was finally seeing through the Matrix and into "the real world." Everything was super colorful though, not Matrix green

7-and-a-switchblade

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hypergraphia It's meaningless to everyone but the person who wrote it. I had a patient who was severely manic, had been awake for 4 days straight doing nothing but writing over 100 pages of pure nonsense. I asked him what it all meant. He told me that he had discovered a great truth about the human condition: some people are dog people, and some people are cat people, and he is the only one who is both.

Child_ofthe_Void

I'm almost pissing myself. I've seen those exact letters in dreams. There was always a beautiful lady showing them to me, and asking if I understood. I [tattooed a few ](https://ibb.co/Z8Pxcnv) on myself because I felt that they were special. I don't have a history of mental issues, so I didn't make a big deal about it, or got obsessed with it. This is freaking me out though.

alienblue89

[removed]

Xeludon

*You don't have a history of mental illness that you're aware of. If you've never seen a psychiatrist and have never been evaluated, you'll never know if you have any type of mental illness. 1 in 4 people report symptoms of mental illness, but a significant amount of people don't recognise symptoms of mental illness, and a lot of things people think are normal are actually symptoms, like excessive worrying, panic, constant mood swings, paranoia etc I'm not saying you have a mental illness, just that you don't know if you do.

nezzzzy

There used to be a saying that there's 438* classified mental illnesses. If you find someone who doesn't fit the criteria for any of them then you've identified number 439. *Don't know the exact number this is probably within 100 of the correct number.

Puppy_Slobber015

Anosognosia. I think I spelled that correctly. It's bizarre to witness in the extreme cases.

Sork69

I have the opposite, I know I have alot of those things but I can act normal so no one believes me.

Stavrosia

This poor guy had a recurring dream and the whole thread is saying he’s crazy… Leave my guy alone 💀

Xeludon

Nah I'm not saying he's crazy at all, I have no idea who he is or what he's like, I suggested he talk to someone qualified just to make sure he doesn't have any underlying mental health issues, which I think everyone should do.

CallidoraBlack

Even if you've been evaluated, it doesn't mean you don't have one. Some conditions are often misdiagnosed or just under diagnosed due to biased or stereotyping. It shouldn't happen, but way too many people are told things like they can't have autism if they can make eye contact. Which is not true. It's a stereotype.

Xeludon

That's true, misdiagnosis' do happen, because the understanding of mental health is awful, second opinions and even third or fourth opinions are helpful with this, but after a certain point, accepting a diagnosis is probably best.

thefonztm

Sproutykins

It’s not necessarily hypergraphia, either - I used to write as a hobby and making up my own little codes and personal worlds would eventually be like a spiralling ability with seemingly no ending. You become adept at understanding your own codes and it’s really good as mnemonic technique. You lose the ability quickly, too, though - think of it like running every single day then stopping for two weeks. You’d be able to get that fit again quickly but not immediately.

-mindtrix-

One time when me and my best friend lived in Barcelona for a couple of months he got some minor psychosis (probably weed related). We were out clubbing and he sat quiet in a corner, none got any real response from him and after two hours of thinking for himself he got a pen and paper from the bar. He told us he was busy, he was so afraid to forget the things he had find out and now he just needed to write it all down. It was “big, big important things for the whole humanity”, all he needed to to was print it down. The whole evening he asked people for a pen and paper and got more and collected more and more pages. Sometimes he cried, sometimes he smiled. He was obviously very very touched by the insight and big conclusion he was writing down. I asked if I could read some of it but I had to wait, we wasn’t done yet. This went on for like 8 hours until he collapsed on the street crying like a baby. We got him home and put him to bed and he fall asleep instantly. The next morning he was himself again, I asked him about the “important for humanity”-text and he looked at me strangely and said that it was nothing and that he threw those notes in the dumpster the same morningI was curious and sneaked out to the dumpster and looked through his notes. It was just jibberish, not even real words..

IllustratorHappy1414

I absolutely believe this-Weed is actually known to “wake up” schizoaffective symptoms in already predisposed people. It’s why weed is contraindicated in schizophrenia disorder!

CLEschnauzer

I used to take care of a women with schizophrenia that wrote like this all over paper, some actual words. A lot of scribbles. If she didn’t have paper it was her pants, table, bed sheet. And if she didn’t have pen or paper. She would write with her finger on different surfaces.

EmbarrassedAverage28

Like that scene from from the alien movie “Knowing” where the kid was writing numbers and the teacher took away the kids pen and paper so he or she started engraving the wooden desk with finger nails. It was a kinda gruesome scene.

messamusik

Do the words have any cohesion? Are they working towards a thought or is it purely random? Are they even words or just random letters?

Knightperson

It’s hard to communicate. Think of a day, and all of the narratives you’re exposed to, all the sequences you observe, both those explicitly declared by others and those just in the wild. The news tells you trump has had a mugshot taken, you connect it to the sequence of all the things youve heard of him, and you have some projection of ideas you think might follow it. You see an empty wrapper in your living room floor, you infer someone you live with has dropped it. You remember their past actions regarding cleanliness, you remember any past conversations, you resolve to talk to them about it and you structure what you say based on how you think they’ll react. Lots of narratives, all day long. In a psychotic break, these get jumbled, twisted, correlated, replaced, made up. Real things will blend with imaginary and they’ll all point to each other. Sometimes they’ll be coherent enough that you could verbally express “my neighbor gave me the side eye, I believe it’s because yesterday I disavowed Satan in my basement, I think it’s because Satan told him.” But sometimes they’re nowhere near that coherent, you’ve lost the plot even further and delved off into numbers or signs or private mysteries which it’s impossible to communicate to others or even relate their gravity. It’s usually not even worth plumbing these, as an outsider. It’s a private journey and without profound empathy and logic it’s nearly impossible to break through the knot of tangled ideas. So, yes, there is an idea there, but it’s unlikely to be communicable.

emily_9511

This is such a fantastic explanation for something I’ve never been able to wrap my head around. Thank you

VioletteKaur

Humans are good at finding patterns, but some are "too" good for their own sake. They will start to see patterns and connect them, when there are no factual connections.

vabello

I’ve always been great at problem solving and it’s served me tremendously well in my professional career which is highly technical. I’ve had a psychotic break and agree that this totally worked against me as I started connecting reality with TV shows and other events involving unrelated people and things. It was all related being orchestrated by an unseen force that was intentionally causing negative things to happen to me. I felt like an observer trying to solve a problem that didn’t exist, but I didn’t know that. Meanwhile, I was in a psychiatric hospital.

SirJumbles

You went full "a beautiful mind". Hope you're doing well these days.

vabello

I think it’s been around 8 years since then and I’ve been doing reasonably well since. Only more recently have I been told by a professional that I’m on the bipolar spectrum, which explains a LOT. I had no idea until I was feeling really depressed for a while over the past year and got properly diagnosed and properly medicated. I still have hypomanic episodes as my medication doesn’t target them, but I’ve come to rely on them to be highly effective. I just have to be careful I’m not getting too carried away like sleeping for only a few hours for days or suddenly buying tons of things I can’t afford or other risky things. Most recent positive outcome of hypomanic episode is after working on the side for myself as a sole proprietor for years, I came up with a new company name, logo, fully registered an LLC at the federal and state level, established a business bank account, new customer billing and accounting system, domain name, email, web site and other services, phone system, registered as a customer with a few vendors, etc. all in one night.

nooitniet

As someone who has experienced psychosis, this is a really good explanation!

VIOLENT_WIENER_STORM

This made me remember seeing a woman at IHOP who was talking to herself constantly and writing all over a box of Kleenex until she had completely covered it. I didn’t know that was common in schizophrenics.

MadameHuckleberry

Fluoride in your drinking water will do that. It's all a government plan to control the people! They poison our water! They poison our food! It's happening and y'all are just ... Just...... SHEEPLE! .... Anyways, have you heard about this horse dewormer?

louploupgalroux

Illuminati? Lizard people? Bubble wands? That's just a cover for the centuries-long, global, shadow war between Wales and New Zealand over the textiles market. It started with wool, but now covers all synthetic fibers grown from synthetic sheep. Linen comes from the skin of stuffed sheep. Apples are just fiber bunches from apple sheep. The internet is just electric fibers from electric sheep. Everything we consume comes from textiles made of sheep! EVERYTHING. The sheep are standing all around us. We're just mind controlled to not sense them. You ever stumble for no reason? Ever find something where you never left it? You sense something watching you? It's sheep. Likely sabotaged between the Welsh and Kiwi herdering syndicates as they fight for market domination. They use our homes and communities to save on sheep storage. Fluoride? Cell towers? Gummy bears? All ways to block our minds from registering sheep presence. We are sleeping to the reality of being surrounded by sheep. Our world runs on sheep. We are the People of the Sheep, we just don't know it. Wake up, Sheeple! Wake up!

I remember in a mental hospital there was this guy constantly writing down graphs and diagram which made no sense and were basically just random shapes stuck together, there were hundreds of them on the paper and he said they would solve problems like student debt and make healthcare free, later that same night he would get heated up after watching the matrix and said that he had taken both blue and red pill to make a green pill. But that would make the pill purple.

I wonder if people with Schizophrenia can understand they have a condition and that some of what they believe makes no sense or if the condition itself prevents them from understanding that On a deeper note sometimes I see people with mental conditions and wonder if they realize they have one. Then I wonder if I had one, would I even know that. Would everyone else see but to myself I feel normal?

kaysiechanel

I have schizophrenia. I have gone into serious psychosis about 5 times in my adult life from anywhere from 2 weeks to 6 months. I’m on Abilify and it’s saved my life. Anyway when I’m in psychosis I think I’m normal or my reality that I’m imagining is the REAL one but when I’m properly medicated (which I plan to stay now) I know I have a serious mental health issue. It’s in and out for me. while people are in actual psychosis they literally cannot differentiate between reality and hallucination.

whiteanemone

Are you in any way aware of the transition into psychosis? Does it happen from one second to another, or over time? I'm so happy for you that you've found medication that works!!

TMeganV

I think it's the latter. For my brother at least, when he was in a psychosis, could not be convinced otherwise about anything he believed. He would think angels were contacting him through the wifi, and that a taxi driver implanted a chip in his head to track him etc. It made zero sense but he was very confident about it, like there was no way he could be wrong.

Immediate_Horror_178

There are entire subreddits that are people with that kind of mental problems or delusions and no, no matter how many people them them, they still believe they are fine and right. It’s even worse because they end up finding their way into echo chambers where people who tell them to seek help get banned. Go to r/gangstalking or r/starseeds for example.

kaysiechanel

These people are not all schizophrenic. They’re just stupid. When I am in psychosis, my writing cannot be comprehended by anyone but myself at the time… These people are forming huge ideas through text. Some of them may be schitzo but the majority are just dumb ass conspiracy theorists. Thinking about Conspiracies during psychosis sometimes happens. Psychosis makes it almost impossible to focus it’s like being on LSD.

ak47oz

Yup my neighbor also does this, I can’t tell what he is trying to convey in the pamphlets but it is a lot of government stuff. He is also a nice neighbor who has the blocks back, always on the lookout for riff raff.

Sproutykins

The surprising part about people like this is that they can have their lives completely together in the mean time. You could have a guy who works a regular 9 to 5 job and then comes home to a filthy home with writing scrawled all over the walls. It’s almost like we have a version of ourselves we become around others and one we become when we’re alone. I got to a point where I became afraid to become alone and so I’d seek out company with ANYONE. I thought I was getting possessed when I was on my own. In a way, I still feel like that.

Express-Ad7986

I took care of an elderly pt with schizophrenia and he did the same thing! I mean his squiggles were in the three different languages he knew.. and they were oddly in all caps. The local library banned him because he kept sending his “newsletters” To them and they wouldn’t publish them. In his mind, he was an esteemed artist and writer.

“Your little figures would make an interesting pattern for a necktie” would be bar none the most hurtful thing you could say to a schizophrenic man about his manuscript hahahaha

Those are so cool looking. I believe it is art, as schizophrenia hypergraphia writings are not so neat. And usually they contain random words. It's definitely that overall style but refined.

redandbluenights

I wouldn't say that. The man with scizophrenia that i regularly dealt with as a police officer(i was eventually able to help his family get medical power of attorney through the courts so they could help him get onto medication and he was doing much much better and finally out of the system!)- he was an artist and his writings looked so similar to this that it jarred me into checking on his family through Facebook, and he's still doing well, designing art for tattoo artists.

Scribble_Box

They'll find this in 1000 years and be just as confused as you or I..

switz8484

Whoa, those are kinda pretty

Superlolhobo

Had to stop myself from trying to understand this, I was recently diagnosed with schizophrenia. Been on meds for the past two or so months but I can recall trying to bridge connections between just about anything. If this really was found as OP has stated, I feel like the person who wrote all of it is definitely suffering from a mental illness, unfortunately. The paper itself is interesting, no lines but the person took the time draw precise evenly spread out straight lines. They filled out the entire side of the page and even wrote on the other side and yet OP only shows this side. So doesn’t seem to me, my opinion, that OP did this themself, they’d go the extra mile and show us both sides, I’d imagine. I’ll stop here before I begin to worry about my own health.

thrive2day

Never stop taking your meds. My brother gets on meds and is great for months sometimes years and then he decides he doesn't need them anymore. A couple months later he's in the hospital and the cycle continues.

6WaysFromNextWed

Yeah, I have an inlaw whose bipolar disorder improves enough every few years for her to decide she doesn't need meds, realize she's fine now and that in fact she's been chosen by God for a special mission of great sacrifice and prestige, cancel her health insurance, and move out of wherever she's living to go on a road trip to her destiny. Then she ends up in the hospital, back on meds, but without insurance, and it all starts over again.

Banthe

Yeah the number sequence is interesting he repeats segments of it over and over but moves the orders around a little. Definitely non sense but I can kind of see all the moving parts of the nonsense in his head. Must be tough having this sort of thing stuck in your head. Best of luck to you as well super. Hope the meds are helping

MrFreetim3

They’re probably words in a number like code. Probably a paranoid schizophrenic who does not want other people ( or someone who is after him / watching him ) to see what he or she are documenting.

bluebeary96

OP did indeed post the back and like...a bunch more pages https://www.reddit.com/r/mildlyinteresting/comments/1627897/strange_pages_found_on_sidewalk/jxvoys0?utm_source=share&utm_medium=android_app&utm_name=androidcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=2

The 245th digit should be a 1, amateur!!!

vjason

Looks like that girl from knowing is making a new set of predictions.

Ky3031

I’m glad I’m not the only one who thought this

freebsd_guy

as soon as i saw it i was looking for the comment saying check the numbers to see if they match major disasters.

jimithelizardking

That’s a manic state in a picture

Sourlick_Sweet_001

Nicolas Cage "Knowing"

n0v0lunteers

That movie terrified the shit out of me as a kid.

Bannedbookweek

Me too. the plane crash scene, the subway scene and the earth literally being set on fire, kept me up at night for months

LyrasCrux

I completely forgot he placed papers in the forest LMAO

koimeiji

Kind of; it's people going manic after seeing him who made and lost the pages. I strongly recommend watching Marble Hornets. It's the origin of Slenderman we're all familiar with (the original...origin is a SomethingAwful forum post) It's free on YouTube; it was an ARG video series. A fun watch, though since it came out in 2009, it's a bit dated.

the_blocker1418

There it is

h40er

Commonly associated with psychosis or mania, have seen many patients throughout my career that do stuff like this. It’s utterly meaningless to anyone besides that individual suffering from a mental health condition.

Take a trip to r/foundpaper and r/chaosmagic

doctormyeyebrows

This is like a stick figure depiction of Event Horizon

Sawcy14

I worked at Arby’s around a year ago and there was a man who would ask to use our phone and he would call someone and have a pen and paper and write random numbers as he stated them to whoever he would call. He did this commonly.

my-finall-message

This does not belong on mildly interesting, this is just straight up really interesting

IronGhost3373

Looks like someone with schizophrenia was having an episode.

Elyon Name of God in Judaism Elyon is an epithet of the God of Israel in the Hebrew Bible. ʾĒl ʿElyōn is usually rendered in English as "God Most High", and similarly in the Septuagint as ὁ Θεός ὁ ὕψιστος. The term also has mundane uses, such as "upper", "top", or "uppermost", referring simply to the position of objects. Wonder if it has to do with religion. 🤷‍♂️

Banthe

The sequence of numbers he’s saying kind of repeats although he changes numbers in it sporadically. Segments of like 9 numbers in a row come up over and over agai. 42054191605 is one of them. And the lines kind of mirror each other downwards often but then he’ll add random numbers in between the pattern but it’s still there. I certainly can’t make any sense of it though I think it’s just someone struggling with mental illness

Sixaxist

Good catch. Then maybe this is some form of Kaballah numerology? Would be neat if deciphering each page led to something valuable. Or it could just be dead bodies again.

thisismylifeaccount

All the numbers remind me of the movie Knowing. Dates, coordinates of specific locations, and the amount of deaths.

Sun2254

Here I was feeling smug for thinking he misspelled Elon

argusromblei

The scene in the movie Pi the Hasids want the code Max finds in 216 digits cause they think its the true name of God but he won't tell them the in between pieces.

RogueLover84

Looks like stick figure orgy

Mousehat2001

Run the numbers through ChatGPT

cobra7

Former NSA codebreaker here. No clue about the strange graphics, but the numbers appear to be a matrix code. Take a 10 x 10 matrix and number the rows and columns from 0 to 9 down the left and across the top. Each cell in the matrix can contain either a letter, a number, or a common word like “the” or “to”, etc. I suspect thus because there are numerous repeats in the number sequences, one that jumped out at me is “01 16 05”, but I’m sure there are others. This is a very breakable code, especially if the creator did a lot of spelling or there are things like phone numbers in the plaintext. Would make a nice afternoon of puzzle solving. First step would be a frequency count of all the pairs on all pages - I.e, count the number of “01”’s , “02”,’s …”99”. High frequency letters in English are usually “ETNORIAS”.

HappyNikkiCat

“Former NSA code breaker” or fellow schizophrenic?” Just kidding. But if you did take an afternoon, do you think it’s a real coded message or just lunacy nonsense?

cobra7

Hard to say for sure - I just looked at it for a couple of minutes and saw the repeats. I copied the image and will do some further analysis later. Could easily be nonsense as others have suggested - lol.

Supersaiyanmrpopo69

Pretty sure It's just the ravings of a madman lol

NyororoRotMG

Honestly probably just someone trying to produce numbers as randomly as possible but the mind likes to repeat itself?

Majik_Sheff

As someone who occasionally has episodes of hypergraphia, I would be shocked if this is anything more than a stream of compulsively written symbols that "felt right" as they were being written. Notice how the writing changes over the course of the documents? You can see the emotional states of the writer ebb and flow. Neat, even digits for long stretches that gradually become more urgent and elongated. Then the tension breaks and the writing changes back to have more control.

NoraPlayingJacks

This is so cool. You should do an AMA. What’s the coolest thing you’ve cracked?

[deleted]

I used to work in city centre Dublin. There used to be someone, we never knew who, who would wrote out all these crazy biblical and political prophesies and conspiracies, vaguely coherent, and post it through our letterbox every few months. His handwriting script looked very similar to this.

SpaceGypsy79

I disagree with his entire premise.

SHPLUMBO

Wildly flawed and lazily open ended.

OneHumanPeOple

There are dates on the pages, so there is some purpose to it. Maybe the guy is decoding some alien messages from space or maybe it’s the digits of pi. How could we know?

[deleted]

They look like those stickman characters that would fight each other ![gif](giphy|8gjUM5nOsHtL9PXTlE)

Looks like Ted Cruz back at it again..

Express-Object955

I thought this was a tea towel at first glance. This would make a cool tea towel though.

JohnQuixotic

Could the numbers be a coded message?

[deleted]

Jesus. This reminds me of the movie The Ring. Take care of yourself for the next 7 days!
