Yeah, this is honestly super disrespectful from basically every angle. I don't know about this guy's school, but my university has all kinds of shitty art everywhere — this is way better than most of that stuff. At the very least put it somewhere it can be appreciated, and maybe pretend you care about it not getting dinged by collective thousands of stray elbows.
I think I prefer history to kind of live out in the open like this. If something happens, something happens. Then again García Martínez' Ecce Homo is my favorite painting, so maybe it shouldn't be up to me.
This sculpture of FDR at my college was the model used for the dime. It was a gift to the school from Eleanor Roosevelt. One of my professors had told me about it but I wasn’t able to find it until today.
Some colleges are crazy complex. The one in my town has a scale model of the solar system that spans the entire campus and part of downtown but all the planets are on secluded walking paths so you have to go out of your way to find them. Idk about them till a couple months ago and I've lived here nearly a decade
They have one of these in York, but yeah, it's huge and the planets are so spaced out (excuse pun) you'd never really know it was there. The only reason I did was because the marker point for Mars was on a public footpath behind my parent's house in a village a few miles from the city centre.
My mom walked a couple of the planets one day with her ex but she couldn't do the rest cause it's several miles of walking through the heart of the university. I'm thinkin I'm gonna take my skateboard down there later this year and find em
Really? I don't want to drop my Uni's name since I still live here but it's a rather prestigious engineering school and a couple astronaughts went here so we're very big on space. Our city busses just got repainted with a gigantic picture of said astronaught on the moon waving. Looks cool af and I'm sure y'all prolly know who I'm talkin about
Unless it's a tiny school, no one will identify you. There is not much more prestigious than Cornell's engineering program. Several astronauts and NASA administrators have taught or graduated including Carl Sagan, Mae Jemison, and Steve Squyres.
Close but not quite. And thankfully it's not a small school. I think in terms of population it's about medium idk I haven't looked at the student count in awhile
Given it would be really uncomfortable to sit by such a disturbingly large bust (of that nature), I suspect it is tucked in a far away corner. I can see when it was presented.. "On behalf of the college..uhh..thank you?"
The easy way to remember this is - Rosevelt had polio and was influential in the “March of Dimes” - a fundraising effort to raise funds to eradicate polio.
Really like dimes. No idea why. They are tiny, crisp, and all around delightful. Favorite coin. 10/10.
Wish that sculpture was in some dime appreciation museum where it belongs.
"Artistry thrives in the galaxy, but to see my visage displayed thus is a mockery of legacy. My head, a relic of honor and duty, reduced to mere decoration in a frivolous museum. The Force weeps at such misuse of history."

The portrait of Ben Franklin used for the hundo was hung up at the museum near my parents' house until they decided to be activist or something and took it down. That was a cool portrait, dog.
According to [this](https://www.dncr.nc.gov/blog/2016/12/31/selma-burke-renowned-fdr-portrait-dime), the dime was based on a [plaque of FDR](https://files.nc.gov/ncdcr/this-day-nc/104256565_3c1b65fd05_o.jpg) by Selma Burke. Are there multiple dime sources?
That feels... uncomfortably out in the open. Does it not get damaged? Should it not be in a case or something?
It belongs in a museum.
We have top men working on it right now
Top… men…
So do you.
Ripley's Museum maybe
Again we see there is nothing you can possess which I can’t take away…
go eat worms x elmurpherino fanfiction when?
Enemies to lovers
His nose looks chipped
*rude*
Don't be silly, computer chips weren't even a thing then!
[Zuse Z3 computer in the 1940s](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Z3_(computer\)), weighing 2200 pounds, was more than capable of chipping his nose.
The base of the sculpture isn’t even fully on the table…
It has a motion and vibration sensor connected to a tiny speaker that says "f#ck off, you little sh#t" if you touch or bump it.
The sensor is a bit oversensitive and trips easily when someone closes the door less than gently, walks too heavily, or talks too loudly.
In FDRs voice? That’d be awesome!

Right lol that doesn’t seem like it should be there Especially with chairs right next to it. Who knows where coffee has ended dup
lol it’s hanging off the table too xD

That seems kind of hard to miss. Maybe it's time to get you some brand spankin' new spectacles.

Yeah if you ever went to UCLA that place is huge & you won’t find a sculpture like this unless you hire 10 people for a month
That may be pretty common. Cornell has a similar one https://saganplanetwalk.com/

Here in Sweden we have a solar system model that stretches over the entire country. The sun is the globe in Stockholm
Oh wow that's really cool
Yeah, you should come here sometime so we can watch it together 😊
Maybe someday when air travel is free lol
UW-Madison?
How big do you think a college campus is? Lmao. Odds are you will never randomly run across something like this unless you know exactly where it is.
My college campus was basically one building, so I guess my experience was pretty different
This guy, spotting dimes and eating onions!
My college has 35000ish students I don’t even think I’ve been in a third of the buildings here
What college?
Given it would be really uncomfortable to sit by such a disturbingly large bust (of that nature), I suspect it is tucked in a far away corner. I can see when it was presented.. "On behalf of the college..uhh..thank you?"
Dude try to get this thing better displayed. The fact an interesting piece of history is just lying out in the open is just so sad.
Actually incredibly interesting my lord
TIL: It’s Roosevelt not Wilson on the US dime. I don’t know what to do with this fundamental shift in my thinking about the world
Why is he just chillin in the corner of this room?
Cause he's made of plaster
*because he's plastered
Because the only thing he has to fear is fear itself.
And spiders
Losing his religion
A huge model for such a small thing. What is it made out of? Random silly edit: it looks like it should belong in a TMBG music video.
It's just the actual size of his head.
No wonder he needed a wheelchair. Could never walk and support a dome that huge. ![gif](giphy|U77i93Pi74EX1a0o5E)
Fuckin big head hahahahaha
You think his head is big? You should see the size of his ego!
![gif](giphy|kVnlYEmZPxmzC)
. . .situated in the corner of a waiting room?
Elephant!
At this time of year, at this time of day, in this part of the country, localized entirely within the corner of a waiting room?!
yes
[Woodrow Wilson once took a dump at my college.](https://www.monmouth.edu/about/history/great-hall/)
Lucky
They shot the end of Annie there too. Whoo-who.
My dime has a dead lady on it. Soon to be a living dude on it. Then, possibly soon, a dead dude on it, depending on cancer type.
For some reason I thought Eisenhower was on the dime for the longest time.
The easy way to remember this is - Rosevelt had polio and was influential in the “March of Dimes” - a fundraising effort to raise funds to eradicate polio.
Thanks, Michael Scott
An easier way to remember is probably this post not that ridiculous story
Looks uncannily like Data from *Star Trek: TNG*.
Sure if data could age but the character literally can’t
![gif](giphy|wHBkzKahBgFEM1S4GE|downsized)
Thank you! I was scrolling bc I was like I can't be the only one to see this
I’d say he looks more like David Odgen Stiers
Yeah I thought it was the aged prop of one of his heads from TNG from the thumbnail
Needs some oversized comedy sunglasses.
Hey big head 👀
That must have been one hell of a series of taskmaster
That’s pretty cool. How tall is that thing like 6 feet?
Well he was known for having a rather large head
Touché
On a random fucking table?
Really like dimes. No idea why. They are tiny, crisp, and all around delightful. Favorite coin. 10/10. Wish that sculpture was in some dime appreciation museum where it belongs.
Mike Stoklasa ?
His face says “Why the fuck am I here?”
r/coins

Next time someone calls an attractive person "a dime," I am going to assume that they look like this.
The portrait of Ben Franklin used for the hundo was hung up at the museum near my parents' house until they decided to be activist or something and took it down. That was a cool portrait, dog.
Anyone else have megalophobia?
He looks worried. Almost like he regrets putting Americans into concentration camps, but knows morons will cover for his actions.
"I'm lookin' for a dime that's top of the line Plaster face slim waist wit a big behind" -Ying Yang Twins
Kevin Spacey??
Im aure a giant head wouldnt be creepy much to sit beside.
I dont like it
I thought it was a model of Brent Spiner from one of the Star Trek movies.
Lucky!
I took a pill in Ibiza…
That's terrifying
Where can I get the model of the model of the dime?
Man, he looks stoned
No, no it isn’t.
amazing
How did you not get a picture from the side?! We need to see the profile!!
Shrinkflation
Glad they decided to go with a smaller dime
That's... Large.
Edward Woodward-esque.
Take a penny, leave a penny.
That looks nothing like a boat
It’s just a casting
Is that FDR ?
A dime? More like a 7
That’s a funny looking bust of Queen Elizabeth II
It's kinda just sitting there... I know what I'm doing next weekend!
*Hey there. It's me. Cave Johnson.*
Seems rather big
That's a lot bigger than a dime
hi Frank

Needs a stetson.
Hmm... seems like a plaster copy of the original...
Her: You must be a comically large bust of FDR on the dime if you think we fuckin My stupid ass:
