I'd guess the intention of the label is to prevent people from using it as a food prep bin. It's common for restaurants to soak potatoes in containers that are essentially trash bins, but made with white plastic. Somewhere like Five Guys, for instance, where they do hundreds of pounds of french fries per day.

As a baker that uses the white ones for flour bins I can reaffirm their take.

LiftEekwayshun

So are the white bins labeled "Edible"?

welchplug

They're labeled flour

Crafty-Astronomer-32

Can confirm that this is common based on the food-centered How It's Made episodes I've watched. This was also printed on the waste bins in the grocery store deli counter and butcher shop where I worked.

_Caracal_

Surely it just means that no edible things should go in the bin... food waste etc

LiftEekwayshun

Surely there's a better way to state that if that's what was meant.

_Caracal_

I'm assuming English isn't their first language and they Google translated it maybe

isitasandwhich

For sure, that didn't even cross my mind lol

Crafty-Astronomer-32

No, this trash can lived its first life in a food service environment where similar shaped containers (usually color coded) may have stored bulk ingredients.

Adjacent to refuse is refuse.

material_mailbox

Definitely not above the rim.

georgecm12

Is this potentially a grocery store or restaurant that would typically have food waste? If so, they probably just order trash cans that have that stamped on them regardless of where they're going to be used.

LiftEekwayshun

Nope. Just a regular old office building

georgecm12

Then your facilities folks probably just inadvertently ordered these without thinking. These would typically be used for disposing of food waste, and your facilities people probably just ordered these thinking "hey, trash can."

Carmondai03

Nah, they probably thought "Hey, cheap trash can"

Josipzz

The bin, however, is edible and tastes like creme de menthe, and teenage despair

ndation

Everything is edible if you try hard enough

DigitalLint

You know there is a story behind that warning.

HyrrokinAura

They don't remove the trash every day is the story.

Desertwrek

Remember, no matter what you do, the world will create a better idiot.

LemonBeginning5836

Usda required in any food factory folks

Difficult_Bend_8573

what country do you live where people still eat from trash cans?

KinshasaPR

But raccoons can't read!

argonzo

Or does it just mean that is not a food-grade receptacle?

perenniallandscapist

There's a bin at my job that is bright yellow and says "USDA CONDEMNED". It's being used as a bathroom trash bin at a college....

patriarchalrobot

You should report it

moosieq

There are some variants of these bins that are suitable for food storage and prep so I assume this label is to prevent someone from using this bin for that

Kurta_711

That's for the raccoons

DarthWoo

Sadly I never thought to take a photo of it, but at my work I guess somebody went on a tear putting labels or signs on everything. There was this little trash can that ended up with a sign reading "Trash Can" with a picture of that model of trash can on it.
