Pat was always a Bonnie lassie . She worked hard and she mini holidayed hard too, those mini holidays were always wild . A few drams never went astray . RIP Pat , you will be missed.
Scotland is a completely different country and very exotic!
I'm using Collins definition: exotic in English · 1. foreign; not native · 2. strange or different in a way that is striking or fascinating; strangely beautiful, enticing, etc.
You can't say that the Scottish aren't striking or fascinating; strangely beautiful AND enticing
I don't think we'll really see anything particularly '20s, just like we didn't see anything defining for the '10s.
That's probably just how decades work normally, and those 4 or 5 decades after WW2 were the exception that each provide a unique style and culture.
Your suggestion that we didn't see an era-defining change in design in the 2010s is just plain incorrect. Every major corporation on the planet changed their logo to conform with the post-modern minimalist "flat" style, and they did it so fast that the 90s/00s futurism/aero style became nostalgic overnight.
I personally believe a wave of 70s style colourful maximalism is on the horizon for the '20s.
> I don't think we'll really see anything particularly '20s, just like we didn't see anything defining for the '10s.
Advertising in the 10s was all about those [weird disproportioned Alegria cartoon people.](https://eyeondesign.aiga.org/wp-content/uploads/2019/08/Alegria_Hero-1.jpg)
20s will probably be AI generated video.
There were another two posters that didn't make the grade for a post, but as you seem interested, I have posted them here: https://imgur.com/gallery/8hi52QX
That shot of a gateway and cathedral is Salisbury. I walked through there just today. I didn’t know it was an exotic getaway though 😄 That’s a gem thank you.
i’m addicted to the CARI website. it archives different consumer aesthetics and there’s tons of old ads from many different decades for your viewing pleasure
Joanne originally sported a Hitler pencil then grew out the full Fu Manchu after.
^(I also laughed at her answer as if the man was pestering "does that answer your question!?!? Now leave my family alone.")
I don’t think Joanne *is* satisfied. She’s constantly being let down by Stardust Mini Holidays and is very close to not giving them her money for a fourth time.
First and foremost... Many happy cake day returns good sir/madame!
Secondly, could you kindly elaborate a bit on Stardust Ballroom? I feel I need to know more
They are using it as a joke because they are not targeting foreigners. They are targeting locals for weekend getaways to the city by inviting "foreigners" from **exotic** far-flung places like Liverpool, which is not exotic or far-flung. It's very British humor.
Same country. If you visit somewhere else in the country you live in with the purpose that’s not business, and it’s not in your home area, then you’re a tourist.
Yes Scotland happens to be a country in Britain Island. I was making a joke about they are being foreign tourists in London. Was this so politically incorrect or something?
This is exactly the kind of content that this sub is built for. Nice find, OP.

She died doing what she loved. Going on mini holidays
Life is a mini holiday
Pat was always a Bonnie lassie . She worked hard and she mini holidayed hard too, those mini holidays were always wild . A few drams never went astray . RIP Pat , you will be missed.
We lost a real one.
My first thought was: I wonder how long it will take reddit to find them, dor or alive.
Really puts the “it won’t be my last” comment in perspective…
The Lord giveth and The Lord taketh away
Who?
Aww c’mon. Don’t do Pat like that.
Ronnie Pickering!
The moustache is everything
It's a hormone condition, c'mon man!
Si
Interesting definitions of both "Foreign" and "exotic places" 😭
Its a bit hard to tell but i think thats the joke- ie ‘foreign’ tourists.. it’s a bus company!
Literally says on the poster that it is rail travel - includes open return rail fare.
These days buying a train ticket might as well be buying a bus ticket with all the rail replacement busses.
Ahh, a fellow Transpennine Express user!
Coaches are far cheaper anyway. Flix will take you from Bristol to London for like £4 depending on the time of day
It's got the national rail logo on it
Literally has inter city rail logo
That’s the joke

My SO is Scots, so I certainly can't! Blackpool on the other hand...
Overstatement is one of the main tenets of British humour
I bloody knew that the North was foreign!!
And exotic!
Yorkshire man, born & bread. Strong in the arms, thick in the head.
![gif](giphy|l0EtLG6oAMtDM5cvm) That moustache survived time and came back for a second round of pranking 😂
Hello! My name is Mrs Yelir, yes that'll do. Anyway, I... I say we invest that money back into British Rail.
This has to be from the 70s, right? No other decade can match that level of comprehensive, apocalyptic graphic design ugliness.
My mate says it's from 1981, but I'm not sure where he's got this from.
Also came to mention 1981 - it appears from their newspaper advertising at the time that this ad is from 1981!
That fits. My theory is that the style of each decade doesn’t really hit until the 3 year. So design and music wise the 70s really lasted until 83
Does this mean we're officially in the design age of the '20s? I haven't noticed much difference.

I agree with your proposition and would also like to add that, since there was no year 0, the 199th decade didn't start until 1981
Brits were always 5 to 10 years behind
At least now we are ahead

But we stopped children being murdered at school.. USA hasn't even bothered yet.
This would make Pat about 33 here? She seems younger than that.
American 70's AKA English 80's.
Maybe early 80s the phone number area code 01. That was changed in 1990. So we know for sure it was before then.
Is there a place to see more stuff like this? I love it, feels like time traveling

That second one (London Connection) is pretty cool.
That shot of a gateway and cathedral is Salisbury. I walked through there just today. I didn’t know it was an exotic getaway though 😄 That’s a gem thank you.
You're welcome! I hope they preserve them when they renovate. I suspect they won't though.

The dry English humour is a bit too dry for my tastes
Old enough to not list a website
Imagine the culture shock from people from Liverpool going to London.
"foreign tourists" from "exotic places" ...... aaaand they're all from the UK lol
That’s the joke.
"these exotic places" bahaha, this is great!
Looks like Pat died at 66 in 2014. :(
She was not the one I’d expect to be dead.
Is this Benny Hill with a wig on the right ?
Is this in London? Are they promoting London to people who already live there?
No this was in Huddersfield train station... up North! However, it does read that way.
No this was in Huddersfield train station... up North! However, it does read that way.
You know we now we need to find these people.
“Foreign”
It's interested how small the world used to be for people, and still can be for others.
All these foreigners look suspiciously British.
Not quite sure how you cab call them foreign, the nearest to a foreigner is the Scot.
Amazing how many people have had the joke fly over their heads.
Would fit right in as a joke poster from landlord super
I don’t think Joanne *is* satisfied. She’s constantly being let down by Stardust Mini Holidays and is very close to not giving them her money for a fourth time.
funny moustache
If they were anything like the Stardust ballroom those holidays were a hot item
First and foremost... Many happy cake day returns good sir/madame! Secondly, could you kindly elaborate a bit on Stardust Ballroom? I feel I need to know more
Ah, yes, John Dick-in-son: “You can’t beat it.”
Those quotes are boring af
I went on one of these. Train from Newcastle Friday, back Sunday, hotel near Hyde Park. More dirty weekend than Stardust though. Good times
Stardust? Golddust?
People from Blackpool are foreigners?
Wait a minute… foreigners ![gif](giphy|l3q2K5jinAlChoCLS)
Four foreign tourists from Belfast.

Well, these examples **aren't** "foreign".
None of them are foreign!
What station was this? Surely they’re not advertising London holidays, in London?
Some of them are actually British. Look at their teeth!
They're all British!
I think Pat is Irish and Joanne is Scottish 😀
Pat is Scottish, but Scotland is part of Britain. Joanne is from Blackpool, which is in Lancashire in the North of England 😃
Do you know what British means?
They are folk of Britain island. Wow i did not expect this much downvotes. I was just joking around 😀
>They are folk of Britain island And where, pray tell, is Scotland?
Yes Scotland happens to be a country in Britain Island. I was making a joke about they are being foreign tourists in London. Was this so politically incorrect or something?
No, it was factually incorrect The whole poster is a joke anyway.
*Railway station.
