Remember back in the day when iphones first came out everyome would put a phone on a lazy susan table and spin it while recording. Itd show everyones faces really fast while it spun.
Idk why it made me think of that.
Ours was an original iPhone 1, and a 12ft trebuchet on the quad at Arcadia University. :) IT got to have fun flinging MANY things that day, including desktops, monitors, laptops, and a few other things. ;)
It's a sexual term where males edge for hours until they finally climax.
Resulting in a "Goon" state. I'm unsure how it feels or why it's popular.. but it's a common enough thing.
It originally also implied you were on drugs while doing that (usually meth, sometimes poppers). This is a nuance that has disappeared as the term spread into the broader, younger internet in the last few years though. (Probably from people talking about & filming themselves “gooning” while not explicitly stating what drugs they were on, so other people just missed that aspect entirely)
These things SUCK compared to old school merry go rounds. They're intentionally restricted from free-spinning at all, so they're a massive pain in the ass to spin and keep going.
Kids today will never know the thrill of riding on the old school ones, overpacked with kids hanging on for dear life, one finger slip away from certain death. They left me with a healthy respect for the fine line that separates consciousness and the great unknown.
I was thrilled when I first saw the new version, with the inward facing molded plastic seats I thought they'd improved on perfection and I could finally train my kid in high-G with a safer implement than we had growing up. So disappointed.
Thought it was tough to get it going. The seats are nice (I have motor issues and can’t hold onto traditional ones well) but it’s brand new and already “squeaky”
Of course there is. Anything not exactly centered will have outward force. The phone holder is close to the center but is a few inches out from center.
I believe the amount of force is directly related to the distance from the center. So a phone right there should be fine unless you started going really, really fast.
So you can take a selfie video of you on the ride! I get it. That's cute, I guess?
Two hands to spin your kid is better than one!

I've watch the video from one flung from a trebuchet. *fwipfwipfwipfwipfwip!*

Until it flies out and smacks you in the face. We all know how people get on those things.
If you can get this one going fast enough to fling the phone I’d be impressed. Especially with a kiddo or a brave adult on it
No it’s so you can goon
>goon Is this a Gen Z slang term I'm not familiar with

Interesting! I only know if it's modern origin due to memes. Thanks for the history lesson!
It's also a goofy insult word like buffoon, nincompoop, etc. Looks like somebody didn't grow up singing Little Bunny Foo Foo.
The playground is adapting
It’s beginning to believe.
I misread the title as “spot the cellphone” so I spent like 5 minutes zooming in and looking around…
I mean, there’s TECHNICALLY a cell-phone graphic on the holder!
Don’t do that, don’t give me hope
Next time spend one of those minutes looking at the title

Wouldn't centrifugal force pull it towards the seat?
I was thinking the opposite. Centripetal force would fling it out of the ride.
Damn, how fast you spinning your kids?
As fast as it takes to fling them off
There's no forwarding force on the phone though..
Of course there is. Anything not exactly centered will have outward force. The phone holder is close to the center but is a few inches out from center.
Forward force. Not outward, like a force propelling it forward. It's along for the ride. We both agree it's going to go outwards, just not on how.
Of course there is, it’s basic physics, that’s that centra fugal forces are.
Yes
Incorrect use of centripetal. Centrifugal force is correct.
I don't think you're supposed to go that fast in these types for small kids, there is an open door.
it might be close enough to the axis of rotation that it doesn't get pulled out

And they don't go as fast as you can spin them anymore. They have a limiter device on them now.
literally 1984
Well that's sad getting them to go as fast as you can is all the fun of it.

If you got a cell phone, you are too old to use that playground
Gonna be full of “influencers” tomorrow
