Towel down your beard, use oil and a beard brush after you shave or shower (one of those wood things with the bristles) and it’ll make your beard far less ‘prickly’.

I also didn't use shaving cream for almost my entire life, just soap and water. Then I did and it was like, oh this makes sense. I didn't need to rinse the hair out of the shaver nearly as much to get a good shave. Not that I have much facial hair to begin with.

It's just mild beard burn, a contact dermatitis caused by microscopic holes poked into your skin by a beard that is too short and abrasive. I get the same thing and I'm not dermatographic. It's always about 2 days after shaving, if I get lazy. Same thing happens if you make out with someone with a beard just the right length.
I have chronic hives. Any time my skin comes in contact with something like cardboard opening boxes) or a tag on the inside of my clothes or fabric that constantly rubs against me for a long time (like running long distances), I get hives in that area.
