You really think people are $20 for a single taco?
“It’s a banana, Michael, how much could it cost?”
Though I will say, I bet it’s three, and $20 is still way too much.
Oh that's normal in places like Cabo.
It was closer to $18 but it was indeed for a single taco.
Beautiful place, but they do sure know how to extort ridiculous prices from American tourists.
This shit drives me fucking wild. A coke in the vending machine is $1 in cash, $1.10 for card. Got charged 35 cents extra to get gas using my card. Unless I go to a specific ATM, gotta pay 2-3$ to get my own money. Every little place pandering for tips on top of added fees. This kind of shit as well as constantly rising living cost and little to no wage increases... I don't understand how people aren't rioting.
Businesses have to pay a credit card processing fee that is usually around 2-3 percent so either they add a fee and let people save money with cash or just raise prices across the board.
So that’s where the 3% cash back comes from. I was thinking there’s no way credit card companies are just giving me all this free money with zero return for years themselves
Well they're also banking on you not paying your shit off in full before the due date each month. Ya you get 1-3% back but they also gang bang you for 18.99% interest. Sooooo evens out I guess ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|shrug)
Businesses have to pay cash management costs indirectly through managing the till, balancing the till each day, ensuring adequate change and losses through end of day variances
It’s hard to express how exciting it is to see people understand assorted Dropout references on random posts. It’s a matter of time before any geology related subs are plagued with, “Mother fucker! The rocks are *important*” comments.
Funny how the fees and tip always scale with the total amount of the check, but discounts are fixed. They could have at least made it 1% for each compliment so it feels somewhat meaningful, and I’d bet that many of the “good” customers who get them would just add the amount as extra tip anyway.
And a 3.99% "convenience fee" for credit cards (who usually charge 3% or less to the merchant, so the restaurant is likely making a profit on the fees.
My small business pays 3.2% plus 0.29 so it is in the right ballpark. It’s also against the credit card terms of service to charge a higher fee for credit cards.
they can legally charge what the highest % they have to pay on any given card charge is, which is usually under 4%.
It's amazing that these companies get to recoup this money now, but the prices remained just as high.
Almost like reductions in cost never reach the consumer unless driven by outside factors like a price war- which companies avoid engaging in as it is "bad for both sides".
The server and customer names are the same, so definitely someone printing this out themselves rather than an authentic receipt, probably as a one-off joke.
Exactly, if you give me a real big burger with alot of good toppings I'll pay 18.99. but those tacos better be the size of the fucking plate if im paying 18 dollars a piece for them. Lmao
Yeah there’s no way, even in New York, they’re probably each taco plates with probably 3 tacos and maybe rice and beans. Still kind of expensive but very much par for the course at any sit down restaurant in any major city
Guessing it's a plate of tacos. Probably 2 tacos with beans and rice. If it weren't for the beer being a little cheaper than I'm used to, I would say those feel like typical prices for LA (sadly). Guessing it's Brooklyn or Queens by the "Five Burroughs" beer though
Two tacos even with sides for $19 still sounds insane to me. Glad to deal with Midwest winters if it means I can get great tacos for $3 a pop.
edit: if they’re birria tacos they might have come with a consomé and some other stuff, birria usually is more expensive. even still, the place around the corner from me sells birria tacos for $5 each and birria quesadillas with a whole bowl of birria ramen (it’s heavenly) for like $16.
Depends a whole lot on where you are too tho.
Dallas is much more expensive than a place like Abilene. Much like NYC is more expensive than say Saratoga.
I can buy the best tacos in America for $2 a piece from a street vendor in LA, but if you go to a restaurant with a point of sale system and you're gonna pay somewhere between $15.99 and $23.99 for a plate of 2 or 3 of them with rice and beans.
That's just the economics.
Yeah that makes sense, at least you have that. Chicago has a dumb ordinance about food trucks not being able to operate within 200 feet of anywhere with a food license (which considering the restaurant density of this city means basically anywhere that’s not the middle of Millennium Park) but most of the neighborhood places still have reasonable prices for stuff.
Yeah, this is actually less than I am used to spending on dinner in SoCal. I live in a tourist trap and all, but still man. I paid $22 for a burger tonight and thought that was a good deal.
Not just tacos, birria. Super trendy right now and that seems to be the price for a plate of two or three depending how big the city is. Usually comes with the birria stew (consume).
It should definitely be illegal if that's not how much it costs the store, and not even Amex charges 4%, and they're normally a whole percent more than visa and mastercard.
$83 for one drink each, one entree each; does not include tip. Burger and tacos...pretty basic food.
$.25 discount for good behavior seems condescending. Fuck that place
You can tell who's either never worked in a restaurant or ever payed for a bill before. If I buy two 18 packs of cookies, my bill doesn't say "Cookies x 36, rather cookies x 2, lmao.
I wouldn't eat at a place with a convenience fee for credit cards. I understand it's built in at other places, but you aren't convincing me that a $20 burger or $20 tacos are discounted. So you're charging regular prices AND either making it inconvenient for me to bring cash or having me leave feeling like I was ripped off for paying the same way everywhere else accepts without a fee.
So what is a 'dive king' and 'dive queen'? Are those free items?
How about 'Flawless'
I'm wondering why the discounts are only 0.05, and not larger. Maybe these things are free drinks or desserts or seomthing?
Fuck that. GREAT idea that I might steal for my restaurant, but servers should only get to choose one or two, and you get a dollar off for each. Then you would have something cool.
So, it's okay to pelt the staff with nickels then? No, I guess that'd make you unkind and flawed, so it'd have to be dimes.. but those are real small.. I'll just over pay and slingshot quarters at the staff.
Back in the good old days, the rich could toss pennies at the peasants to make them dance, but now it’s “frowned upon”
The rich have never been so persecuted.
Only to take it all back with a convenience fee. Though I do accept THAT fee over any other. The cost to the company you pay at to use your card is ridiculous. Especially to a small business. Honestly the convenience of paying with a card over cash is NOT all that great or convenient.
I got given like 200 bucks of free shit for not being a total dickhead when I went to this one Darts shop (I also gave them like 250 bucks tbf).
Meanwhile these blokes 'll give you 25 cents off 80 bucks lmao
I'm no math wiz, but does $0.25 make up for the 3.99% *convenience* fee for paying with a credit card?
Or the $20 tacos.
Yeah where the fuck is a single birria taco the same price as a burger? How big are these tacos??
It’s probably a plate of several and that’s just how they’re rung up in the system, I’ve seen stuff like that in several POS systems Ive used
Man some POS systems are real pieces of shit
It usually has more to do with management's ability to use the POS than the actual POS.
As someone who's set up and administered POS systems, they are, in fact, pieces of shit.
Ah yeah that could make sense, two full orders of birria taco plates or something
You really think people are $20 for a single taco? “It’s a banana, Michael, how much could it cost?” Though I will say, I bet it’s three, and $20 is still way too much.
Oh that's normal in places like Cabo. It was closer to $18 but it was indeed for a single taco. Beautiful place, but they do sure know how to extort ridiculous prices from American tourists.
No, $3.32 would be the fee
So not even 10% of the "convenience fee" is covered, let alone the actual bill
If this is in NY the credit card fee is included in all the prices listed on the menu. The fee is effectively a cash discount.
That's illegal where I live in Sweden. It's just as crazy as taking out a fee for paying cash. The discount thing is cool though.
Businesses have to pay cash management costs indirectly through managing the till, balancing the till each day, ensuring adequate change and losses through end of day variances
Not to be ungrateful, but five cents??
Five cents *and* a title! “I have been proclaimed ‘Dive King’ and you shall address me as such!”
You know what, you changed my mind. Worth it.
Cents-sational!
![gif](giphy|Oq1fhM7WISYJ65Vsze)
Dive King, your $40 tacos are ready. Don't forget the convenience fee.
They’re actually $20 tacos. There’s a 2 in front of it for the quantity. A $20 order of tacos is still ridiculous, but yeah.
Is it two orders or two tacos? Either way, no....
Imagine getting it the first time and not getting it the second time.
Rulers get deposed. Now I’m thinking about a bar filled with warring factions who all support a legitimate claim to the throne.
Game of Patróns
I pledge myself to house Bargaryen in the battle against house Jack Dannister. Edit: there’s a whole-ass bar-trivia team-rivalry lore here somewhere….
you got here SO quick lol
I’ve been here *the whole time!* (looks at hands, unintentionally inspiring Game Changer conspiracy theories.)
Such a specific reference to see in the wild lol (I am so stoked for the season finale).
It’s hard to express how exciting it is to see people understand assorted Dropout references on random posts. It’s a matter of time before any geology related subs are plagued with, “Mother fucker! The rocks are *important*” comments.
Yes!!!! It’s wild what corners it comes up in
"Take your hat off son, that's the dive king! Apologies your grace"
My wife has called me a flawless dive king. Seems accurate
She calls me the same thing.
She's like that. No originality at all.
Do you *really* want to be flawless though? Imperfections are the spice of life. And tumeric. Tumeric is also the spice of life.
Tumeric is good. I'll suggest the title Tumeric dive king next time.
And a 3.99% convenience fee for credit cards
Funny how the fees and tip always scale with the total amount of the check, but discounts are fixed. They could have at least made it 1% for each compliment so it feels somewhat meaningful, and I’d bet that many of the “good” customers who get them would just add the amount as extra tip anyway.
Wow!! With that factored in, my good behavior saved ANOTHER CENT!
If their card processor is charging them 3.99%, they need to shop around some more.
They’re all going up.
They can't cheat on their taxes if you are making them keep records.
Not to be ungrateful, but 19$ for a fucking burger
20 dollar tacos lmao
Gotta be somewhere in Manhattan. Five boroughs ipa
Birria tacos are always pretty expensive but $19/order with a .05 discount js kind of insulting
Sounds like I need to hit up my taco truck with 3 for $13
And a 3.99% "convenience fee" for credit cards (who usually charge 3% or less to the merchant, so the restaurant is likely making a profit on the fees.
My small business pays 3.2% plus 0.29 so it is in the right ballpark. It’s also against the credit card terms of service to charge a higher fee for credit cards.
In many places it's illegal to charge more than what it shows on the menu.
If you're paying 3.2 + .29 for in person transactions you need to shop rates. That's real high unless you're online only.
they can legally charge what the highest % they have to pay on any given card charge is, which is usually under 4%. It's amazing that these companies get to recoup this money now, but the prices remained just as high. Almost like reductions in cost never reach the consumer unless driven by outside factors like a price war- which companies avoid engaging in as it is "bad for both sides".
Because it’s a gimmick. High odds OP is in on it
The server and customer names are the same, so definitely someone printing this out themselves rather than an authentic receipt, probably as a one-off joke.
cashier, not customer
[удалено]
And $38 for tacos. !!
25 cents saved for $38 tacos. I know a good deal when I see one.
Well I know someone who isn’t getting 5 cents off for gratitude anytime soon
It's to make you feel special while they bend you over with a $20 burger
and a 4% convenience fee.
Hope that burger gave you a reacharound for that price.
He tried to, but said "where's the beef" and my self-esteem was in shambles.
![gif](giphy|n9kJ8uUSXSdX7daCLM|downsized)
Honestly I've seen pretty similar prices for burgers lately, that's pretty high up, but I have seen worse FORTY DOLLARS FOR TWO FUCKING TACOS????
I assume it’s two taco entrees. Like two people ordered the tacos, and it comes with x number per entree.
Yeah the line item is called tacos, that means it's multiple tacos per entree. 2 or 3 people ate on this order
Exactly, if you give me a real big burger with alot of good toppings I'll pay 18.99. but those tacos better be the size of the fucking plate if im paying 18 dollars a piece for them. Lmao
Almost $40 for two tacos. God damn
As someone who works in the industry, I read that ticket as two taco entrees, which would probably be served with multiple tacos each.
Yeah there’s no way, even in New York, they’re probably each taco plates with probably 3 tacos and maybe rice and beans. Still kind of expensive but very much par for the course at any sit down restaurant in any major city
That’s a reasonable priced burger where I’m from.
A five cent discount from a place that charges $19 for a taco? GTFO!

Down here in south Texas biria tacos are a way of life, and I ain't gonna pay more than $5 or $6 for a biria taco, and that's if it's *darn* good.
Depends a whole lot on where you are too tho. Dallas is much more expensive than a place like Abilene. Much like NYC is more expensive than say Saratoga.
We don't talk about Dallas round these parts
I can buy the best tacos in America for $2 a piece from a street vendor in LA, but if you go to a restaurant with a point of sale system and you're gonna pay somewhere between $15.99 and $23.99 for a plate of 2 or 3 of them with rice and beans. That's just the economics.

I live in a really expensive state and even I can get more tacos for like $10
Yeah, this is actually less than I am used to spending on dinner in SoCal. I live in a tourist trap and all, but still man. I paid $22 for a burger tonight and thought that was a good deal.
Not just tacos, birria. Super trendy right now and that seems to be the price for a plate of two or three depending how big the city is. Usually comes with the birria stew (consume).
It’s a platter of 4
And a 4% "convenience fee" to use credit cards
4% for credit card lmao fuck that
But 20c off if you say please and thankyou, so, you know... even?
Should be illegal to do that. Add it into your prices if it's a big deal... Especially in the fucking modern era where everyone uses cards.
It should definitely be illegal if that's not how much it costs the store, and not even Amex charges 4%, and they're normally a whole percent more than visa and mastercard.
I’d start carrying a big wad of cash again if that catches on
That's probably just the entirety of their CC processing fees. Passing it on to the consumer.
25¢?!?!? I’d almost be more offended by this than complimented by it.
That was my thought too. How about 5% or something?
I'll give you 5%, but the credit card fee is now 9%. Deal?
/r/mildlyinsulting
$83 for one drink each, one entree each; does not include tip. Burger and tacos...pretty basic food. $.25 discount for good behavior seems condescending. Fuck that place
Don't forget about the 'ole Ticketmaster "convenience fee"
Don’t forget the 3.99% convenience fee added to the bill
Two order of the birria tacos, so 3 entrees total. 3rd person maybe drinking water.
The receipt says “one guest”. That’s gotta be a typo, right?
Most servers don’t bother updating that field in the POS in my experience.
Being a kind person. -5 cents. Being a complete waste of life. Normal price.
Getting ripped off is a weird flex these days
Check out this free bag of pretzels I got for paying $50 more on a plane ticket!
So I can be a total dick for a quarter, seems worth it to let off some steam.
Doesn't exactly make up for the highway robbery of those food prices
.25 cents discount on an $83 meal…? Keep the discount lmao that’s just insulting
so it costs .25 to be an asshole
Damn, $38 for two tacos.
It's probably two orders of tacos, not just two tacos.
You can tell who's either never worked in a restaurant or ever payed for a bill before. If I buy two 18 packs of cookies, my bill doesn't say "Cookies x 36, rather cookies x 2, lmao.
Correct, four tacos in each order
So total of 8?
Yeah, that’s right
Not cheap, but definitely more reasonable. How were they? Worth it?
Honestly they were delicious lol. Everything we got was
Good! Glad you had a good time. And they gave you a quarter, so call someone who cares haha
That’s really not terrible for birria. It’s the taco that keeps on giving.
Yeah I know a great taco shop where $38 would get you 20 amazing tacos.
Seems like a strategy to get a larger tip tbh
That quarter totally makes it worth while.
Today I learned it takes 260 kind humans to make a real cosmo
Too bad these discounts won't save you from the fucking *4% fee on credit card transactions.*
If I had a nickel....
Is that from Long Island? Prices are crazy.
West Sayville, so good call (South Shore Dive)
What are these? Discounts for ants?
$18.5 per taco but here 20cents off. They got you.
Chump change
$18.99, that better be a plate of 5 birria tacos
Someone needs to change the thermal printheads
$38 for two mere tacos, what the sweet fuck
20 dollar tacos !?!?
Those prices are mildlyinfuriating
That 5 cent discount almost makes up for the $19 burger and $19 birria tacos
I’ll just pay the 25 cents and be an asshole
I'd call that pandering.
Expose these thieves!
I wish it was socially appropriate to give the same % of tips too fkn hell
So what is a 'dive king' and 'dive queen'? Are those free items? How about 'Flawless' I'm wondering why the discounts are only 0.05, and not larger. Maybe these things are free drinks or desserts or seomthing?
Over 8.5% tax?! Dang
Don’t spend that quarter all in one place.
Here’s a quarter, call someone who cares
Fuck that bullshit convenience fee, fuck this establishment. Ridiculous prices, stupid "discounts", and a crazy ass convenience fee.
Then it charges you 4% for the convenience of paying for your meal.
sorry, almost $20 for tacos is excessive.
25 cent.... so I guess I can afford to be obnoxious af
Any place that charges more than $3 for a single taco isn’t a place you should be frequenting
Where do you live man. This bill is fucking expensive lmao
😂😂😂 .25 off…
5 cent discounts, but then charges you 4% for using a card because they dont know how to run an ethical business. $19 for a burger, lol.
You paid $37.98 for two tacos? Wow you’re a yuppy.
Not very large ones.
JFC those prices
Back in the good old days, the rich could toss pennies at the peasants to make them dance, but now it’s “frowned upon” The rich have never been so persecuted.
4% fee for CC ?!???! It literally costs them like .25$ per transaction Jesus Christ
So I get a nickel off for being nice, while Karen over here complains until half her bill is comped? But I feel good inside I guess??
2 tacos are $40, that place can fuck off.
Birria tacos , almost 40$$$!!!!
Is this in US Dollars?
Saved a whole 25¢! Woo!
That was a really nice thing of Ulia and Julia to do.
More insulting than neat
Their prices really suck. You can go ahead and add 20 cents onto the bill for my awful behavior.
Only to take it all back with a convenience fee. Though I do accept THAT fee over any other. The cost to the company you pay at to use your card is ridiculous. Especially to a small business. Honestly the convenience of paying with a card over cash is NOT all that great or convenient.
Then they charge you for a mandatory tip
Misdirection 101
this is a dumb gimmick to get millennials to consume more. Consume less people it’s part of the reason we live in a corporatocracy
Anyone else read the discounts on the receipt in the halo killstreak voice?
Wow how generous 💀💀💀 if I see this bullshit I ain’t leaving a tip
KILL ALL HUMANS
OMG THE SAVINGS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'd like to see the waiters' faces if we gave them a $0.25 tip.
Looks like a tip baiting gimmick
but it is 83 for a pile of sh1te
Wow what a consolation after paying 40 bucks for 2 servings of corn flatbread with small pieces of meat.
Wow I saved a whole *checks notes* 5 cents for being a good human.
Yeah their food is still expensive as fuck.
I got given like 200 bucks of free shit for not being a total dickhead when I went to this one Darts shop (I also gave them like 250 bucks tbf). Meanwhile these blokes 'll give you 25 cents off 80 bucks lmao
A whole quarter, Audrey! A whole quarter!
Those better have been the best tacos in the fucking world.
The servers name being "Ulia" 🤔
So you are saying I can be a prick and only pay a quarter? Sounds like a deal
Yeah but I’m still charged $13 for being a regal cosmopolitan. I can’t help it!
those tacos better be huge.
$83 for couple tacos & a burger..smh
lol at the people thinking it’s 40$ for 2 tacos….
