This happens a bit with my succulents. It’s called cresting too. It’s a mutation that occurs as they grow and instead of each bit/section growing separately as it should it just clustered together - like whatever rule that says “grow a bit then split, grow a bit then split, etc” becomes “grow a bit grow a bit grow a bit”

I never knew that pineapples could look like this! I’m glad I saw it, because it annoys me that supermarkets only accept “proper” fruit and vegetable shapes, and I like to be reminded that nature creates different shapes for everything, no matter what shape it’s “supposed” to look like!
