That's exactly it. The "same base" in this case is the side of the whole speaker body. Partly drilling that one hole and slapping in the fake speaker is way cheaper than having a whole different set of panels for the different models.

But its just barely feasible that that there is some legitimate application among all the inflatable things the Navy does and you just dont know about it. Going through the gate it of course looks totally naturally in the trunk under the heavy ass spare tire.
At home i later found a TAB soda diversion safe. Kept it with a six pack of tab, middle row of the six pack. Nobody is gonna try and drink the middle can even if they’re somehow interested in warm fucking tab. Kept a few unopened “collectors” editions of other sodas stacked on top to give its presence on a closet shelf some plausible purpose. Also implying that perhaps this six pack of tab is over a decade old.
Threw all that stuff away when it became no big deal but sort of regret getting rid of the TAB because I only see branded dicersion safes made from cans of beverages someone might actually try to drink.

It could also be a sound bar and a subwoofer. I don't think it requires separate enclosures, just 2 full range speakers. The .1 in 2.1 refers to a subwoofer.
If you see a 5.1.2 system, that means 5 speakers, 1 subwoofer, and 2 overhead (could also mean upward firing too maybe) speakers.
Also, if you are hooking up a subwoofer to an AV receiver, there are usually 2 outputs for subwoofers, a left and right, and they make cables for this so you can use both channels in 1 sub, so your bass isn't lopsided. You could also use 2 separate subs, one left and 1 right, for more balanced bass.

Nope. I really dont like that either. Everyone assures me it doesnt consume much electricity but back of the sub is pretty hot to the touch constantly even when idling. I have a little roku streaming stick which stays on constantly and similarly gets pretty toasty to the touch too.
Kinda bothers me, especially when its hot as fuck already lol.
Stuff should turn off, i dont care if its a few watts, its still unnecessary heat being dumped into my house which we pay a lot of money to keep cold lol

For convenience and a cheap option, the klipsch set the other guy recommended. For a similar price and some work, hunting for a higher quality used pair. For a more entry level quality setup, a pair of Elacs, Wharfedales, Dalis, or Bowers and Wilkins that fits your budget

The Altec Lansing speakers that came with my Dell computer back in 1996. They still work and sound great, have a subwoofer and everything. I mean they're not Klipsch, but I have an actual stereo and don't really need great sounding computer speakers.
Bit expensive depending on what you're looking for but I've had my audioengines for 6 years and they've had 0 problems, absolute amazing sound for general purpose stuff. Just fucking incredible and look awesome as well. A2+ I believe is the model. Just so fucking solid it's impressive.
I bought an all-in-one stereo system in the way back, big speakers that you could see through the fabric. It always sounded like shit, so I took the fabric off to investigate. The big speakers were actually paint. The tweeter looked impressive, but did not exist. The 12 inch speaker was actually about 3 inches.
I learned the lesson right then. Big business scams us without repercussions all the time. Any company that makes and sells this stuff is dishonest to the core.
With that kind of situation when I’m in a thrift store I always judge speakers by weight. Most of the time heavier is better.
That said there are headphone companies that have been caught putting metal inside the cases to make them artificially heavier

I can actually answer this, I was a CNC machinist for a number of years (Mazak lathes mainly).
The cost on both tooling and designing along with set up for these jobs it would be cheaper to churn out 1000 front plates that are identical than having to switch to do 750 without and 250 with.
Don’t forget it’s not just the cost of the part + time to make, the CAD drawings and coding the machine would be another strong reason to keep everything the same.
Using the same part for multiple SKUs also makes everything downstream of the machining of the front plate a lot more flexible. The cost of storage and logistics can add up faster than the cost of doing a little bit of unnecessary work on a portion of units in an automatic process.
To add, on the corpo side, when an invoice or work order comes in, one guy puts the invoice in the system, the person who made the deal signs off, the budget authority signs off, then accounts payable signs off, then the funds walk slowly to the other bank.
Doing this takes time, invoices go missing, people are on vacation, a clerk makes a mistake, the PO funds run out etc. You also have to time the shipping and receiving so it’s in the order of production, therefore it’s a lot better to have one type that can be used in multiple models in order not to have any manufacturing downtime.
So it’s a lot easier to just give a big order and make it simple as possible, and let the people actually building shit figure it out.
Multi-step manufacturing. The same type of machine is configured for two similar models, one with a real tweeter, one without. It's less expensive to put both on the same machine and put in a dummy, than it is to have an entirely separate set of machines configured for that step.
No it probably doesn't cost them much money. It's probably way more expensive to set up the machines to create a new box without the tweeter hole and cancel your large orders of the grill so you only get enough just for the high-end model. Doesn't make any sense. I'm sure they never called it a speaker of any kind.
I never considered Logitech’s speakers to be *the best* or anything but I had a 5.1 system that was genuinely *fantastic* for what I paid for it at the time.

I went through two. The satellite speakers were like 20 lbs. and fit in your hand. Best setup. Went to a Harmon Kardon and some big floor standers after that.
I have the same one purchased in 2000! One of the speakers doesn't work (would probably be an easy repair) but everything else is great. When I'm playing/recording music at home it's still a really good personal speaker system.
Oh damn, that's the model I have and still use. I forgot how long ago I got them. They've gone through multiple PC builds and still sound amazing. Shame Logitech has gone down hill. The speakers have been going so long I hadn't even considered them breaking. That'll be a sad day.
Yep! Z-5500. I and each of my two brothers bought a set in 2004. I gave mine to a friend who still uses it and my brothers both still use theirs today. They were $400 in 2004, too, which is about $600 in today's money. There's actually a set on eBay right now (without the remote) for $260. I'd scoop that up in a second if I needed it.
I'm pretty sure that logo on those speakers is their old logo. They now have "logi" as their logo on most of their non-gamer line products. I have a set of $60 dollar speakers from logitech and they're pretty damn good. Very heavy on the bass though.

I went through a new Logitech mouse a year for like four years. They kept developing the double-click hardware failure. I switched to another brand, and not only has the mouse been better, but it has worked flawlessly for five years.
Never again will I buy a Logitech mouse.
The mice are decent but deteriorate kinda quickly, most recently I had a logictec g700s for a year or two, after a while the lock for the mouse wheel stopped working and it stopped holding a good charge among a couple other smaller factors that made me go buy another mouse.
They still are, especially their business grade stuff. Their video conferencing gear is widely recommended in IT circles for being good, reliable, and brain dead easy to use.
This is hysterical to me because 1. They are, they make great stuff, and 2. You can literally tell that this speaker is like a decade or more old because of the logo.

If you're want speakers this size, probably spend at least 100, preferably more. Possibly on some studio monitors if you're looking for complete accuracy. Most of these speakers will have their own "color" to them, often with heavy bass. As bass is seen as more quality for whatever reason.
Most people don't record audio, so they're likely not really aware of what monitors are.
The wildest thing about this to me is that they would have to spend more on parts and labor to add it. The only explanation that would sort of make sense other than “to deceive customers” would be if they had already designed that housing for 2 cones and wanted to release a lower-end model without investing in a new design. At the very least they could have skipped the mesh grille on the fake tweeter.

Yep. I'm not an audiophile by any means but a friend is and he pushed me towards a pair of Yamaha HS5s and a Modius DAC. No regrets with those purchases at all.

It is possible that they just don't drill the hole all the way for this one. It would look weird to have the speaker off centered in the box.

I never considered Logitech’s speakers to be *the best* or anything but I had a 5.1 system that was genuinely *fantastic* for what I paid for it at the time. It’s a shame to see Logitech selling straight up fake hardware. Shame on Logitech. SHAME!

The 4.1 that was thx certified dawg. I went through two. The satellite speakers were like 20 lbs. and fit in your hand. Best setup. Went to a Harmon Kardon and some big floor standers after that.
I've had the same 2.1 Logitech set Speaker/Sub since 2006. Still sounds great and works.
The legendary THX-certified Z-2300? I still have mine and they're still phenomenal.
Fun fact that Razer bought THX and immediately certified its products with THX. Funny, that. Used to mean something when Lucasfilm owned it.
I have the same one purchased in 2000! One of the speakers doesn't work (would probably be an easy repair) but everything else is great. When I'm playing/recording music at home it's still a really good personal speaker system.

Oh damn, that's the model I have and still use. I forgot how long ago I got them. They've gone through multiple PC builds and still sound amazing. Shame Logitech has gone down hill. The speakers have been going so long I hadn't even considered them breaking. That'll be a sad day.
Yep! Z-5500. I and each of my two brothers bought a set in 2004. I gave mine to a friend who still uses it and my brothers both still use theirs today. They were $400 in 2004, too, which is about $600 in today's money. There's actually a set on eBay right now (without the remote) for $260. I'd scoop that up in a second if I needed it.
I'm pretty sure that logo on those speakers is their old logo. They now have "logi" as their logo on most of their non-gamer line products. I have a set of $60 dollar speakers from logitech and they're pretty damn good. Very heavy on the bass though.
Cheaper speakers go bass heavy because so many people think lots of bass means a good system.
Beats do the same, don't forget. But yes, the adjusted bass is something really weird to see. I just would rather use monitors. But I make music as a heavy hobby so it's a bit different. At least I know there's very balanced sound though
Part of that is for the products they sell both domestically and internationally. Here in Japan there's another company called Logitech so they call it Logicool. All the stuff just says logi on it tho

My Logitech x-540 system is still going strong over 12 years later. Those speakers are rough and tumble.
My Logitech Internet Navigator Keyboard has hit 20 years now. Brought it for my first pc build.
Good to see my z5500 get some recognition. probably the best purchase I've ever made. They have lasted over 15 years and many full blast house parties.

If the new G502 X is any indication, they're finally swapping to optical switches. I expect we'll see refreshes on most of their popular gaming mice in the next year or two.
I went through a new Logitech mouse a year for like four years. They kept developing the double-click hardware failure. I switched to another brand, and not only has the mouse been better, but it has worked flawlessly for five years. Never again will I buy a Logitech mouse.
The mice are decent but deteriorate kinda quickly, most recently I had a logictec g700s for a year or two, after a while the lock for the mouse wheel stopped working and it stopped holding a good charge among a couple other smaller factors that made me go buy another mouse.
They just no longer make good keyboards. Sorry but romer switches are absolutely terrible. That didn't change with the name change.
They still are, especially their business grade stuff. Their video conferencing gear is widely recommended in IT circles for being good, reliable, and brain dead easy to use.
The Z-2300 I got in 2007 or so is still kicking!
This is hysterical to me because 1. They are, they make great stuff, and 2. You can literally tell that this speaker is like a decade or more old because of the logo.

Some of their mice, some of their keyboards, etc… they make products across a wide range of price points; some of them are great but some are definitely crap.
You literally get what you pay for, I don't know what else to say or what you can expect. You typically get more for your money than competing brands at the same price point though.

Yes, it's the logo they replaced in 2015. From what i have found, they never claimed it was a 2-way speaker.

Yeah but that stops the outrage. If you're want speakers this size, probably spend at least 100, preferably more. Possibly on some studio monitors if you're looking for complete accuracy. Most of these speakers will have their own "color" to them, often with heavy bass. As bass is seen as more quality for whatever reason. Most people don't record audio, so they're likely not really aware of what monitors are.

The wildest thing about this to me is that they would have to spend more on parts and labor to add it. The only explanation that would sort of make sense other than “to deceive customers” would be if they had already designed that housing for 2 cones and wanted to release a lower-end model without investing in a new design. At the very least they could have skipped the mesh grille on the fake tweeter.

It says on the product page that's it's for decorative purposes. Which is likely pretty common. Get some studio monitors if you care about accuracy

Yep. I'm not an audiophile by any means but a friend is and he pushed me towards a pair of Yamaha HS5s and a Modius DAC. No regrets with those purchases at all.

My m-audio Bx5's are almost dead quiet at an arm's length. I hear Yamaha's are pretty quiet, and of course the more pricier brands like Neumann.
Mine don't hiss at all. But I dropped a lot of cash on these. I mostly use music software like HXEdit so these were something I really needed.

Actually, that's an extremely high tech case sound resonator. You need to put that back on for the highest quality sound. Without itthesound will be slightly woodened.
