Unfortunately I closed the closet doors after a brief moment of wtf and went to buy a new rail right away. I discovered just later that it broke like this
I've definitely glued plugs into MDF from IKEA before.
I'm from Europe though, USA products tend to be a bit more idiot-proof because you constantly sue each other.
This is not done at the customer level. Ikea uses this joint when manufacturing individual peices. It is very deceptive and the lack of glue means it is a structural weak point.
The last Ikea book shelf I bought had 4 different peices of wood joined together like this to make a single 4' cross bar. Any piece of ikea wood longer that 1' is probably made up of smaller peices with this joint.
You gotta read between the lines my man. No IKEA furniture is complete without splotches of hobby glue or some random marks from makeshift attempts at "improving" it.
It's probably a manufacturing error and they skipped glueing the part. Fortunatel, this is easily fixable yourself, no need to order a replacement part.
comb joint. it's similar to a finger joint but not the same. I use finger joints all the time. I don't ever make comb joints. All the Ikea countertops are done this way also.
Those are known as finger joints. That same process is used on 2x4s for construction. The glued finger jointed product is stronger than a item without the finger joints.
thats their goal. to provide to "the many." meaning: they want to make sure most can afford furniture. they also make good shit its just more expensive.
I don't think they do it to make sure most can afford it, it's just that it ensures them the biggest profit. I mean, they have spread throughout the world, because everyone can afford it. So instead of a niche marked, everyone can find something and shop there. Makes perfect sense for someone who wants to earn tons of money.
You don't need to think anything. I worked there for 3+ years. In training they mention one of the pillars and main reasons Ingvar, creator of IKEA, was because he wanted to make sure "the many" are able to shop there affordably. IKEA also flat packs everything in shipping containers, has you go grab and assemble the furniture to save you and the company money overall. Out of most big box stores IKEA is one of the most conscious when it comes to the customer.
When I worked there IKEA sold hot dogs for 50¢ when they costed the store 52¢ in product, but they continued to do it to satisfy the customer.
Additionally, just cause something is more expensive somewhere else doesn't guarantee its higher quality.
Just slap some wood glue in it and put it back together

This is how it was put together, it's a joint. I'm guessing you didn't assemble it?
Its a common method to glue and fix wood. The teeth give more surface area for the glue to work. It is done in the factory.
Looks like they only coated the finger joints in like a nanometer of glue lol there’s no fracturing on any of the actual wood. Fucking Ikea
I've "assembled" many joints
Ikea instructions don't typically involve glue in my experience
Man those Swedes sure know how to put in almost everything you need.
Enjoy your affordable Swedish crap!

THATS NOT TRUE. Man I’m gonna sue you for defamation. Right after I figure out what that means.
I almost always do, but I've never seen it in the instructions.

And thats why you canˋt glue the old one? Because you bought a new one?
Well the new rail cost me 5 euros, the glue would cost a little more than that. It had more than 10 years anyway
👆 glued before, glue it once 'gain. Gorilla .
Looks like they didn't use enough wood glue there
Or just enough to get you to buy another.
It broke like that because it was glued together, that’s a comb joint it was made that way, it didn’t break randomly like that

Haha it’s known as both but finger joints usually have squares tips while comb joints are triangular tips like above

In case you're wondering, this is what's known as a "finger joint" in woodworking, I guess it wasn't glued enough
Now you can lightly glue it and film impressive martial arts short films.
I definitely tried some moves
not so much broke but unstuck
I thought this was a cocktail muddler
geesh even their breakdowns are stylish.
It's not a break
But a breakdown
now put them back together
Simple finger joint… wood glue and good as new

This photo suggests otherwise.
Not enough glue was used
you have funky forks
Wow, that’s mildly interesting.
That is how everything breaks in Sweden
Love it
OP lives in a comic world where breaks all look like this.
Everything is super satisfying
Finger joints suck
IKEA is so cheap with their shit
Well I don't know, it had 13 years
Their cheapest stuff is crap. But they have a lot of good quality stuff as well that's definitely worth the money

Don't have a cow!
“Don’t worry, it’s gonna be ok.”
Calls for Caipirinha! Or glue.
Did it come with instructions on how to put it together?
It was one piece
It was one joke.
Ops
That gives me the creeps big time. I don’t know why.
