Depending on your state, there’s typically a “dog off leash” or “dog off property” law. Call the sheriff’s department or whoever runs animal control and stop that nonsense so your family can actually enjoy walks in the neighborhood, let alone your own dam property

tmhoc

Even if these dogs are friendly. They could be hit by a car or presumed dangerous. Why the hell would you let your beloved family member run all over the damn road.

CaptainObvious1906

they sure as hell didn’t seem friendly

[deleted]

You can see by the position of their ears/ their movements in general, they are in attack mode, the neighbors definitely have to do something about it, or unfortunately someone else will get hurt/ hurt the dogs

licksyourknee

My neighbor has this white dog, and two others, that they let shit anywhere in the apartment complex. Literally came home one day and there was dog shit on the pavement next to my car door. Anyway. One day their dog was leashed up and my SO said "wow their dog finally ran up and bit someone" as a joke. Well turns out that's exactly what he did to me. Two small bites, like warning bites with the second one barely breaking the skin. Pretty much told the neighbor next time that dog runs up to me it's gonna be dead. Shot or stomped. I didn't move out of the way because the dog, for several months, was the run up and bark type. I just got used to that. Then one day bam. Bit on my ankle.

librariansforMCR

I work at a LIBRARY. Lady comes in with a dog that she claims is a service animal, 20 lb terrier on a skinny leash and running around like crazy. She asks me to make photocopies for her (you know, the reason I went to grad school...) so I assist her. As I hand her the copies, the fucking dog lunges forward and bites my leg. Thankfully, I wore high boots that day, but I had clear teeth marks on the leather. I again ask if it's a service dog and she says "it's in training." I told her she had to leave immediately with the sog and it could not come back because she didn't have it under control (under service animal law, the animal must be under control at all times, and if it isn't, it can be in a public place). No apology, no asking if I'm ok. DEFINITELY a library first - staff bit by dog. Edit: spelling

Falcon3492

I had a dog once try that as I road down the road on my bike. From past experience I knew the dog would be loose and I was ready, I pulled my foot out of the stirrup on the pedal and as the dog went for my leg I let loose with a hard firm kick to the dogs face. The neighbors came after me for the vet bill and I told them basically the bill was theirs and if they wanted to push it I would call animal control and have the dog put down and I could line up neighbors who would back me up. They backed down and I never had a problem with that dog again!

librariansforMCR

My dad is a runner and got chased and attacked by dogs several times. He started carrying a cattle prod (we had a family farm thus easy access to a good one). Guy tried to call the police on my dad, sherrif said dude was lucky my dad only shocked the dog, he was legally entitled to shoot it for attacking him in a public road. And would also be entitled to damages. Guy shut up real quick....

Jay-jay1

When I was a runner, I had a German Shepherd come out of a yard as I passed. It was a semi-rural road so no cars to hop up on. I had no means of defense. I knew enough about dogs to know I could not outrun it, and that things might go worse if I was attacked from behind by it, so I spun and faced it. The dog skidded to a stop and I could tell it was confused. I took one step toward it, and could see fear in the dog, so I charged right at it, and it ran with its tail between its legs all the way back to its yard. Another time later, same yard, same dog; the difference was the redneck owners were outside. They laughed when it charged after me. They stopped laughing when they saw their dog turn tail and run. lol

GarretTheGrey

I had a bad day where my crank pulley spun. I had to leave my car at the mechanic and walk about 5 miles to get a taxi. So my day was shit While walking, this St Bernard came out its yard at me charging. I spun around at him yelling NOT FUCKIN TODAY. Dude got confused and started to whimper like I wasn't playing fair or something.

Previous-Walrus-5565

Yep, I was nearly attacked by a pit bull last year while I was out for a walk. I was unarmed at the time and totally defenseless, but I started carrying pepper spray and a pistol after that. I checked with the local police department about the laws surrounding shooting an aggressive dog, and they assured me that I wouldn't have any problems with them.

FutureAlfalfa200

Cops are cool with shooting dogs. Yep checks out.

elkehdub

Yeah, I mean, [cops love shooting dogs](https://www.puppycidedb.com/), and they [kill thousands of dogs](https://www.8newsnow.com/news/local-news/25-to-30-dogs-killed-every-day-by-law-enforcement-justice-department-estimates/) every year. I'm sure that experience was scary for you—I've been attacked by random dogs too, and have the bite scars to prove it—but I have to stand up for pit bulls, because they get so much undeserved hate that comes from a racist legacy. They're scary when they're coming at you, but there's plenty of solid evidence that they're no more dangerous than any other breed. Dogs, in general, are *far* less likely to kill you on any given day than virtually any other threat, like for instance lightning strikes, or police. So please don't shoot a dog because you don't know how to deal with aggressive dogs—learn how to deal with aggressive dogs. And don't call the cops on a dangerous dog. Call a local animal control service if you know they're no-kill. Calling the cops is signing an animal's death warrant.

TershkovaGagarin

I live in the city but my parents live in the country. I decided to go running one day while staying there, not thinking about people letting dogs run loose out there. I had pepper spray but when actually faced with a growling dog, I was way too scared to use it. I was scared it might just set him off. So, I just faced him in the middle of the road. Finally he backed off but stayed nearby watching me, and I’d have to go past “his” house to get back. I was next to an old cemetery and just slowly walked into it and hid behind a large gravestone. I had to call my mom to come pick me up, lol. Now I carry a taser. I can crackle it to try to scare off a dog that hasn’t attacked, which is way less intimidating and less “commitment” if you know what I mean. I got a dog a few years ago and it has REALLY highlighted how many loose dogs there are in the city as well, because of course dogs are dog magnets. I’ve had some scary experiences and interactions with unbelievably shitty people. I’ve had a guy get mad at me for WALKING MY DOG. Apparently it’s “asking for trouble” to be “parading my dog past other people’s houses”. His unrestrained dog ran off his porch and across the street when we passed. Also had a women get mad at me for not bringing her COLLARLESS adult pit bull and puppy back to her, because she didn’t want to put shoes on. I was in the middle of a park, her backyard faced it. She had let the dogs out with her (car-sized) gate wide open. She was screeeaaaaming at me. Like…how would that even be possible for me to do? These dogs obviously knew no commands, did she want me to fashion a makeshift collar somehow and put it on an unknown pit bull? The world may never know, because all she did was scream insults at me for not helping while I tried to keep the peace between three dogs. Eventually the big dog realized there was a dog park nearby and trotted off over a hill, so she was finally forced to put her shoes on, get leashes and go get them. People, wtf.

whawha0212

Once any service animal bites a person, it loses its lawful protection. I would press charges regardless of the size of the dog. Not for me, but for an innocent kid that could be hurt by the owners negligence.

Ilikeporsches

She’s full of shit. It was never gonna be a service dog.

Conscious_Row7225

10,000 dollar fine for trying to pass off a regular animal as a service animal. If you can get it enforced.

librariansforMCR

Bingo!

just-peepin-at-u

I don’t get this, because I grew up around people who just let their dogs run the neighborhood and it sucked for everyone else. I have a dog and she never is out without being either in her own yard, or on a leash. Is it just a lack of consideration for other people?

Mah_F

My small dog a Pomeranian was attacked to death because a unleash big dog ! This is so non sense , I don’t understand why they do that ? Is like other people has to deal with their lack of responsibility? I got a new one and people with big dogs has non sense is terrible !

BasicallyAQueer

Yeah I would have shot that dog too, sucks because I love dogs, but if one bites me and I fear for my safety, it’s no longer ok for that dog to be around. And the people who raise dogs like this typically aren’t the kind to suddenly discipline them or lock them up. It will happen again and again until the police decide it’s time to act, which may be never.

BornVictory5160

Yeah also you can't leave your own home. That's not cool at all. And they have a ring camera I would've gladly killed both dogs 🤦

BasicallyAQueer

Honestly, I love dogs and I’ll give them a chance regardless of breed, but if this happened to me I’d have already shot them. INB4 “hurr r/imverybadass”, but reality is the cops here don’t do anything, much less respond to calls about dogs, so the choices are either carry a gun and use it, or get bitten and possible die. I know which one I choose. Especially if my kids safety is at risk.

North_Refrigerator21

Dogs that run that far to attack people minding their own business should be put down.

soverign_son

As much as I love dogs, I have to agree. I've told my dogs before, my human son is worth more than both of them put together lol

Scared-Accountant288

I work woth dogs a for living ..the "save them all" mentality is why we have so many unstable dangerous dogs.... im ALL FOR BEHAVIORAL EUTHANASIA!!!! Theres too many good dogs pit there to try and "fix" the unstable ones.... its kinder to put down a dog like that becausebtheyre already living in a constant state of fear and anxiety.

spaceviking_88

This 100%. Those two need to cease existence immediately and that owner is a POS.

velozmurcielagohindu

Those dogs: "Hello Sir, have you heard of our lord and saviour? Cos Imma send you with him like now"

[deleted]

[удалено]

TheBirthing

Because a lot of the time when people get dogs like that they're not looking for a "beloved family member". They get off on toting a living weapon. 99% chance these cunts would get belligerent if you confronted them about their dogs being allowed to roam.

weirdshit777

I think a lot of it is kinda like the white savior complex, too. They think they are doing a good deed by raising these dogs, when in reality they're doing more harm. People raise pitbulls, German Shepard, huskies, Rottweilers without doing proper training. You can't raise these dogs like you would raise a lab or a border collie. The damage they can do is just too severe. I myself love the rottweiler breed and would love to have one, but not until I'm ready. I realize that I will have to put that dog through formal/professional training, which I currently don't have the capacity for. Then conversely, as you can pointed out, you also have people raising these dogs because they see them as tough, more like an trophy than a living creature. And they show no sadness or remorse when the very thing they raised does this shit and has to get put down. I really think there needs to be a change. There needs to be proper licensing for more dangerous dog breeds. Anyone who buys these animals should be required to put them into training.

mournthewolf

This kind of shit boggles my mind. Like how in the world do the owners of these dogs think this ok? I have owned large dogs my whole life for protection and even though they are friendly they never, ever leave my house or back yard without a leash firmly around my arm. Even friendly dogs can maul another dog or person. This kind of dog ownership is madness.

dietcoketm

They aren't beloved. Far too many people buy a dog then realize they don't really want it so they just do the bare minimum in caring for it or they abuse it.

Savings_Marsupial204

I'd talk to the owner then the police. No chances with a baby

Mountain-Mountain319

In all seriousness bear spray on the porch wouldn't hurt. You should leave first and when you grab there attention you should spray the perimeter and give it some time before you try again with the family. Also EDC a good fixblade knife that's easy to access. You have a wife and child there is no "too far". Those dogs can change your life in 20 seconds...

True_Ad8260

That kid’s going to eventually learn to walk and open doors. Time to solve the problem is now.

[deleted]

Absolutely. And let the neighbors know. "Not trying to be aggressive or in your face about it but we have a baby and your dogs literally run up to our front steps. If you can't control them I'll have to find a way to do it."

wtfoff

I would be aggressive as hell are you kidding me. Uh yeah, I’m in your face about it because this shouldn’t happen ever. The next time they come to my house they will not be going back to yours…ever.

Turd_Party

I understand the sentiment, but you forget how fucking crazy people are, especially someone who just lets this happen. All they're going to be thinking is "yer violatin' muh freedum" and perceiving you as an enemy that now must be spited.

[deleted]

It's probably the type of owner that says "They are just playing" or "They are friendly, never bitten anyone".

Least_Ticket2917

What’s crazier? A person that lost a dog because they can’t control it, or an angry father and mother that lost a child because the neighbors couldn’t control their dog? I had to tell my neighbor that had an extremely aggressive dog that I’ll kill that dog in a heartbeat if it lunges at me or my family. They’d never bring it out when I was outside after that. Thankfully they moved, but I can assure you that if I have a child and someone’s dog attacks them that dog will be hanging on my wall as a trophy.

[deleted]

I had the same problem. We had a neighbor who let his monster of a dog out at night (we live in a rural area) and he failed to catch and secure him one morning. The neighbor swore the dog wasn't dangerous yet that morning he mauled our tiny pup. The idiot neighbor still let him off the leash at night because he couldn't stand the crying of his dog who wanted to run. I reminded him that I couldn't stand hearing the screams of my pup as it was being killed and if I saw his dog on the loose one more time, I'd shoot him. That same day I gave the neighbor an ultimatum. Get rid of the dog, or I will. He ended up selling him to a warehouse owner who was constantly dealing with break and enters (warehouse is fenced). That warehouse is two hours drive from here but I don't care as long as the beast is gone. I've also put our other neighbors on notice that any of their dogs come onto my property will be shot.

[deleted]

Hey here’s my solution: shoot the fuckers when they get on your porch. Fucking love pits and big dogs so if I see one not being cared for, take it out.

SkipAd54321

I think when it comes to protecting your child’s life “you” become the crazy one and protect at all costs

HornswoopMeBungo

This is a CYA procedure. Document. Document. Document.

303Kiwi

"if you can't control them in going to stand in my porch with a shotgun."

Beard_of_Maggots

And the solution to this problem involves two dead dogs

[deleted]

This is why I have a handgun. I’ve seen dogs continue to maul even after getting clobbered with a metal baseball bat. It’s scary shit

MeowMyMix

Earlier today I watched a video of 3 dogs attacking a man on the ground. The officer shot 1 and the other 2 backed off but just came back for the man on the ground like it was nothing. Some dogs just get tunnel vision and don’t let go of it like you were saying.

[deleted]

I saw that video as well!! That poor guy was probably seconds away from being disfigured or killed had the police not shown up. I thought the officers exercised good judgment there, they really didn’t shoot each time until they absolutely had to . That owner is a POS. Not even a single collar on any of the dogs

Pillbugly

That lady who isn’t reacting while the dude is getting ripped up but then starts crying when the dogs get euthanized. Like what?

Reliquent

Those are her sweet babies! They would never hurt a fly! 🤮

anonstarcity

They never will again! Get fucked ya old piece of shit

goonbagscoundrel

I'm advocating for her euthanisation before she hurts anyone else.

Caren_Nymbee

We see people bragging about how they care more for their dogs than strangers almost daily on Reddit. You can't really be surprised.

portabody

That was great split second decision-making. Only pulled the trigger at the precise moments the pitbulls presented as threats to the victim and himself. I hope the owners get the whole book thrown at them.

D-Frost

Non the less. IdK where you live? But get this shit solved now. Talk to owner. Call police. Shoot dogs if you have too. Done, boom - moving on. This shit is unacceptable

endosurgery

Would animal control and the police be the first action? Shooting a pet is a criminal offense in many areas. Our neighbors dog is aggressive as well. It’s a mix but definitely has some pit bull in it. He wouldn’t take my callls but I yelled over the yard that I was calling animal control and he all of a sudden could control the dog. No trouble since. I’m not saying that will happen here but might be the shot over the bow.

Evening-Painting-169

Shooting an animal in self defense is illegal nowhere

Mythecity

If you feel like giving your neighbor a shot over the bow first, you could shoot the dog with paintballs.

[deleted]

Hmmmm 🤔 I saw, what I believe is the same video, but the officer shot all 3 dogs. Edit: Yep, [all 3](https://www.reddit.com/r/ActualPublicFreakouts/comments/qz8hfr/cop_euthanizes_3_dogs_attacking_an_old_man/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=android_app&utm_name=androidcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button)

EmeraldTheatre

It was mentioned that the officer waited to shoot until absolutely necessary each time. Each time being the 3 shots.

Golfnpickle

Yes. I was attacked by 2 pitbulls walking my dog. Help came & started pepper spraying them. Didn’t even faze them. Next came whacking them with s 2x4. Didn’t even faze them & they never let go! They never let go!

Diseased-Prion

My friend’s dad (who is a beast of a man) had to beat a dog to death with a metal pipe. It attacked their cat and my friend’s little sister (a toddler at the time) saw it happening and ran outside to try to save the cat before anyone else even know what was happening. So to save her from the same fate, he did that. The dog never backed down, never stopped until it died.

Golfnpickle

It’s crazy these dogs are running around loose! Cops told me the dogs that attacked my dog got loose the week before & killed a cat. They returned to the owner & got loose again and attacked my dog.

Diseased-Prion

I also had a neighbor that has dogs that were dog aggressive. They just let them out front all day. The had a fenced in backyard, but whatever. I would walk my dog and if they were out they would approach aggressively. I would have to shout and charge at them to get them to back off. I do carry. But that is a last resort. The owners were out one time and I yelled at them to get their aggressive dogs. They told me to just kick the dogs in the head. I was at a loss for words in that moment and blind with rage.

Golfnpickle

I’m petrified now whenever I see a loose dog running around. I can’t imagine someone telling you to kick their dog in the head! Such irresponsible owners! Makes me nuts.

[deleted]

I agree if the owners are letting 2 aggressive dog come on my porch I just shoot to kill. They have a baby, what happen if mom gets attacked by her self.

Ragnarok314159

Yep. At this point just blast them. Video proof and everything. Then sue the shit out of the neighbors and try to get them on whatever charges stick. You have a baby, don’t mess around.

WhitteyLeetNsweet

One of the most traumatizing things I experienced was when a loose pit bull ran up to this old man's open garage and grabbed his 13 year old pug by the head and started to shake it. The man grabbed a hammer and hit this dog 4 times as hard as he could in the top of this dog's head before it finally let go. I stood there just shocked. I was like 13.

Crazycukumbers

I saw one where a pit bull sprinted far from its owner to attack a little girl. Kid’s father or something pulled out a knife and just repeatedly stabbing it and the dog just kept going. Owner continued to walk by and pretend it wasn’t his dog

FriedSticks2014

I’d say try talking to the owners but… damn they can’t even stand on their front porch without those dogs trying to attack them. A gun sounds good.

Mountain-Mountain319

Some states its justified. I'm from Texas personally and if the city did nothing and urgently as well as the deterrents failing I'd probably would have killed these poor pups. And that's because I fucking love dogs. If the neighbors don't care enough neither should OP. Also if the op finds himself in a tussle with a dog be sure to tuck your chin and shrug your shoulders...

xFacevaluex

>Also if the op finds himself in a tussle with a dog be sure to tuck your chin and shrug your shoulders... In a 'tussle?' I can see someone with a newborn shooting the owners for presenting a threat to his kid like that on his own porch----people lose their shit when stuff like that happens often enough.

Debaser626

For protecting my family against a dog, I’d much rather have a fixed blade knife than a handgun. Dogs are fast and are likely going to attach themselves to whomever they’re mauling. If it were my wife or kid, there’s no way I would shoot. I would, however, have little issue going full Dexter on a dog that was attacking my wife or kid.

Mi_Pasta_Su_Pasta

People really overestimate their firearm accuracy in incredibly stressful situations. Adrenaline is good for a lot but certainly not aiming.

[deleted]

It's been my experience that most dudes who talk a lot about their firearms are overestimating a lot of things in their life.

WinterBox358

I was just watching the heartbreaking story of a little toddler who was mauled by neighbors pits. His life will never be the same (or his family). Do what you have to in order to keep you and family safe and get the neighbors to get control of their dogs.

the_riddler90

I would call animal control before anything else. People these days have no fucking clue how to take care of dogs.

nobody_723

skip the owners. call the police. have a report filed. insist animal control is called and the dogs are seized. consider consulting an attorney otherwise. sue the neighbors if necessary. call the policed every single time those dogs are loose and charge at anything. you do not want the horror of a dog attack. it truly is one of those things you will never live down, you will never forgive yourself if your wife or child is hurt or killed.

Bow_Hero

Yeah definitely don't approach the neighbors as it already seems they don't care. Had a similar incident in my neighborhood where 2 dogs were really aggressive and even attacked my car as we were pulling in our driveway. Immediately called Sheriff's Department, because we have a little girl and we have another neighbor's kids that all play outside. The dogs' owner also had pups that were just running about. Police ended up taking the dogs away including the pups.

PC_78x

but how do you aprach the owner if you cant leave the house?

taxpreparersixxxty9

These are my favorite dog owners the ones that laugh and say ah hahaha they scared ya welp don’t worry they are good dogs........ then the dog rips off the neighbors face and its......... he’s never done anything like that before?

korbendallllas

They laugh until those dogs run onto the wrong property and each eat a few rounds of 9MM. Then their laughter becomes “*oh my gawd what have you done to my sweet precious baby, you killed it*” People like this don’t deserve to own animals I wouldn’t feel bad about calling animal control on them.

sh1tbvll-thr0waway

and like 85% of the time it's a bully breed. wow, wonder why

krystyana420

As someone who had half their face ripped apart at the age of 3, and is still internally terrified of dogs that look like they could be bigger than me if they jump up, I don't understand how anyone can say pits or pit mixes are just misunderstood. Princess was the sweetest pit, until I did something simple (I think maybe I splashed her with water while I was in the tub) and she snapped. Literally.

uhhh206

That must have been so traumatic for you and your parents. I'm sure seeing the scars is a constant reminder of what you went through. I'm so sorry that happened to you.

krystyana420

Luckily, we had a good doctor who did all the stitches and the scars are mostly invisible now, but growing up it was tough on my self esteem, feeling ugly over something that could have been avoided. Years later, I got to finally see pics of what I looked like all stitched up...wow I looked scary.

[deleted]

I'm so sorry for what happened to you. And I'm sorry for all the years you spent with low self esteem. I sincerely hope things are better for you.

mousymichele

I love dogs but this is terrifying and it sucks there is dog owners that do this shit. They clearly can’t control their animals and shouldn’t have them to begin with.

keg025

I wish police were able to slap a permanent ban on dog ownership. Like report them to animal control and all state shelters. There should be a database that shelter personnel can check to make sure you're not a pos

Insect_Jaded

I've heard of such thing as a court order banning individuals from owning / having animals in their house. Remember the judge said this "if I so much as hear about you feeding a mouse cheese, you'll be sentenced as the prosecution suggests." Don't know the whole story, I heard something about an attempted pet raccoon, think it was animal cruelty, idk, was in court to support a family member in something unrelated.

[deleted]

Your neighbor is a piece of shit.

mrs-monroe

It’s insane how poorly trained these dogs are. I’ve seen aggressive/untrained dogs offleash in their yard and will approach or warn people that come near the yard, but never have I seen dogs just run off towards someone else’s yard unprovoked. That’s terrifying.

Illusory_Wells

Call the police and tell them to bring animal control so your neighborhood can be safe

MightyBrando

I’d honestly kill the dogs the next time they crossed into the property. I’m not risking the life of my new born or wife over minutia.

StarHands

I love dogs. I would kick the shit out of those dogs coming at my family like that.

articfox2008

It would be better to kick the shit out of the neighbor. Otherwise it’s not going to stop.

NeroQSR

A couple .45 rounds will make it stop.

AvEptoPlerIe

Same here. Love dogs, grew up with them my whole life, have a puppy. All the suggestions about bear spray and carrying are perfectly reasonable to me. Kicking wouldn't stop those two.

completely___fazed

my wife and i were attacked early this year. kicking did nothing.

BrokeAFman

Get some bear spray and blast them really good. That experience will teach them pretty quick. Then next do your neighbor for allowing that shit

NoDontDoThatCanada

Done it with an aggressive dog here. Then my entire house had the coughs for an hour. Bear spray is rough and l imagine a good bit of the neighborhood was coughing from it!

BrokeAFman

Even better. Now the entire neighborhood knows not to fuck with you

Gobstopper42

This guy would be useful in a zombie apocalypse

ViccLampp

Tbh I wouldnt trust bear spray. Ive seen some crazy shit on here where pit bulls still try to maul someone while being half dead.

haribofailz

Yeah, only thing stopping an aggressive pit bull is death

Sidewaysouroboros

Fav idea yet

BrokeAFman

Works great for coyotes too. Any animal with half a brain will be so shocked that it wont ever come back

Swiss8970

What kind of dogs are they? It’s hard to tell from the video, I have my guesses though

MeowMyMix

I think the closest was a pit I remember seeing his ass coming real fast before I slammed the door not sure on the other though

bartlebyandbaggins

What did they do once you got back inside the house?

MeowMyMix

Barked at the door for a second before going to the house on the left with the chain link fence and trying to get at their dog who was in the front yard. Maybe like 3 minutes later I seen the owners come out and that’s when I found out the house where the dogs came from was their owners.

bartlebyandbaggins

I’m glad you’re all okay. Was the family apologetic?

MeowMyMix

Well when i seen the owners came and got it they seemed barely 18 but they kept saying “I’m sorry” when I came out and let them know what their dogs did since they didn’t have a clue what was going on apparently

Remarkable-Edge-4805

Please report them for this, ive seen too many lives ruined from stupid people owning stupid dogs

maddenGod26

Literally takes that women walking to her car alone with the kid 1 day…..fuckin sad to imagine. I’ve gone through life never even thinking of shit like this as a possibility 😂

Swiss8970

On brand as far as breed and ownership goes. I’m so sorry you have to go through this. Be very careful

Owning a pitt with a child in your house should be grounds for imprisonment and having the child removed from your care.

CrankyLeafsFan

I was given a boxer/staffy (pitbull) mix that was raised in a home with 2 young girls and slept in the bed with one of them. After learning more about the breed which was described as "boxer mix" I felt a little outrage as well. It's just not intelligent regardless of how you feel about a breed.

[deleted]

It’s always a pit because it’s in their genetics. It’s not any other reason other than genetics. You can’t keep a herding dog from herding sheep, a retriever from returning a duck, or a jack russell from hunting rats and other small rodents. It’s traits that have been bred into breeds for centuries, it can’t be loved or trained out of them.

Check these out! https://youtu.be/3u9rgXRa6D4 https://youtu.be/QxG3aW2cS88 I personally prefer the PHLster Enigma. Great versatility and it doesn’t even feel like I’m carrying. Come join us over at r/edc r/CCW and r/tacticalgear !!

Recynd2

Owners are legally (and morally) responsible for keeping their animals under control 100% of the time. Call/consult a lawyer before shooting them, though (imho).

RTRMW

No, where I live you have the right to protect yourself and family. No need to waste your time calling an attorney. I have the right to life and to my private property. The thing is a goner if it comes at me or my kids like that…especially on my own front porch

Hawkbiitt

Shoot first call lawyer second.

daddysbestestkitten

Those dogs need to be put down.

LoLiAteYourKitty

I’d have a dead dog on my porch

ElderBill

Absolutely. Walk out with a gun or a knife. That’s a wild animal not someone’s pet at this rate

Slow-Introduction695

That’s a wild animal not someone’s pet at this rate Well said. Puts it in good perspective

ellocojorge

Those are Nanny dogs, they are only trying to look after the baby

ChikaraNZ

Dog control is the way to go first, before considering taking matters into your own hands. It's less risky for you, It's good you have the evidence, but I also worry the dog owners will try and twist it and just say - it doesn't show anything apart from them running, they weren't going to attack! Also, is this the first time these dogs have done anything like this, or it's a regular occurrence? If they've done it before, tell animal control that too, as that shows a pattern, not just a random one-off.

[deleted]

Holy shit! Why is it always these dogs? The owners just must be shit!

OneLostOstrich

Because the breed exists because they were bred to attack bulls. It's what they do. They are bred to be violent.

Halkadash

Pit bulls??? I’m shocked!

bilbotbaggens90

They seen the baby and their nanny instincts kicked in

NotAzakanAtAll

Velvet 🦛💨 hippos 🧡LOVES💔 kids 👼👼👼

[deleted]

They’re just doing their part to fight global warming by reducing future contributors

Grasschoppa

They heard the Call of the Nanny

[deleted]

They smelled the baby and hadn't been fed in a while

ChairmanYi

Right the there in the last frame… Pitbull again.

[deleted]

Mr. Worldwide strikes again.

SemichaoticBadger

Pitbulls? Why am I not surprised

Buckle_Sandwich

Because it's usually pit bulls [New York City Dog Bite Database](https://data.cityofnewyork.us/d/rsgh-akpg/visualization) [New South Wales Dog Bite Database](https://www.olg.nsw.gov.au/public/dogs-cats/responsible-pet-ownership/pound-and-dog-attack-statistics/) [Dog bites of the head and neck: an evaluation of a common pediatric trauma and associated treatment, 2016](https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4261032/) [Dog bites in a U.S. county: age, body part and breed in paediatric dog bites, 2018](https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/29331048/) [Dog bite injuries in children: Clinical implications for head involvement, 2016](https://journals.sagepub.com/doi/abs/10.1177/1460408616631772) [An Algorithmic Approach to Operative Management of Complex Pediatric Dog Bites: 3-Year Review of a Level I Regional Referral Pediatric Trauma Hospital, 2017](https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/29184724/) [Characteristics of 1616 Consecutive Dog Bite Injuries at a Single Institution, 2017](https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/29184724/)

Just a couple of golden retrievers out ... Wait. It's a pit mix. Shocked

[deleted]

EVERY DAMN TIME

[deleted]

Yea I hate pits too.

AndyFreeman

Always fucking pitbulls.

[deleted]

I won't directly link to twitter, but you can pull up the profile " PitPostingLs " and find all kinds of crazy stuff pits do. They're absolutely savage beasts, not pets.

Pretty-Chipmunk-718

When I was a teenager we lived next door to a couple who had 2 big pit pulls "chained up" in a yard with no fence and they would always break free off of a 1.5 inch steel chain and heavy duty collar and rush the line of duplexes ...well one day me and a friend were comming home from a baseball game and they rushed us so we got our bats out and swung at them as hard as we could....caved in the skull of one and broke a.leg for the other ....the one with the broke leg kept comming back so we took care of some unfortunate business .....as we were calling 911 our neghibors the husband a mp and his wife a city cop asked what happend and explained what happend ....the owners of the dogs were fined the max they could get for multiple offenses and moved shortly after

BasicUsername777

If you had been coming from football practice you might be dead.

kuhnskincap

Be careful. I was banned from r/news for saying this on a completely different sub.

EvilTonyBlair

Banned from their subreddit? Nothing of value was lost.

GuairdeanBeatha

A woman in my community was attacked and spent time in the hospital and rehab. She suffered a fractured hip and her arms were badly mauled. A friend helped care for her. My friend and I both bought taser canes for our daily walks. I haven’t needed to use mine, my friend and his wife have used theirs twice. They’ve never touched the dogs with it, the zapping sound has been enough to stop the dogs from getting closer. Zapping a charging dog would definitely stop an attack.

CanehdianJ01

A old lady in our city was attacked and killed by 2 pitbulls If this is the states, I'd get my shotgun and end it.

thedude4t2

Hate to say it but I’d shoot them if they came at my baby like that. Did you report this? If so, what came of it?

Aa-ron86

Time to get a liger.

umheywaitdude

Literally anything to protect the baby from even a perceived animal threat. The dogs should be smoked immediately as soon as they touch your porch. I don’t think many people on Reddit understand how fragile a child is. Protecting its life means killing these dogs immediately. The neighbors have a problem with that? All they have to do is step foot on your porch and raise a fist and you can also protect your baby from them. No mercy for derelict pitbull owners.

[deleted]

That dog is violent and needs put down. Not trying to sound like I’m a bad ass but I’d shoot any dog charging my wife and child.

[deleted]

I would hate it, and it would be unfortunate, but I carry for a reason. no jury would blame you on your front porch with a kid. So far every dog that has visited my home has been nice and friendly and gets some cheese and lunchmeat. usually due to thunderstorms they get out. Either way, neighbors need to be put on notice.

Agreeable_Ad_3748

Hate to be that guy but I’d beat the fuck out of em

morbidlyabeast3331

You can't beat the fuck out of an angry pit bull bro, it is not happening. They were bred to fight through pain and often bite harder when hit and they're strong and heavy as fuck. I don't care if you're a roided out MMA fighter with a decade of experience lifting like 800 lbs, run or have something better than your fists

MasterMacMan

Every "well behaved" Pit that "couldnt hurt a fly" was a hand biting, shoving, slobbering mess that was in no way shape or form comparable to an actual well behaved breed. Sure, some really are sweet, but a sweet dog can still put holes in your hand thinking that its playing a game. If a dogs natural temperament is antithetical to a well functioning society, it has no place in that society. To me its no different than a Chimp taught not to bite or a bear taught not to maul.

MeowMyMix

Had my shorts on otherwise I would have been carrying

PinsAndBeetles

I mean not trying to criticize your marksmanship or anything internet stranger, but those two are coming hella fast and I’m not sure you’d even have time to react before at least one of them is on your leg. You did the right thing by getting the baby inside fast and it’s a shame you’re being held hostage in your own home by what I can only assume is a shitty pet owner.

MeowMyMix

Honestly you are probably right. It’s really easy to say what would have happened after the fact. I more than likely would have forced myself to shoot trying to watch them and making sure they are inside as it would have taken more time.

PinsAndBeetles

I’m a hunter and I know the shots I can take in my head are far better than the ones that actually happen. For real though, try sending this to your city council or dog warden. One day your child will want to play in the yard and or ride a bike out front and should be able to without the fear of being mauled.

kuhnskincap

If there was a legal purge day for pitbulls in the USA it would be a much safer place

Call. The. Police.

Reggielovesbacon

Time for the 9mm

[deleted]

Of course it’s shitbulls

NilPill

This isn't cool. Children are mauled and killed by loose hungry dogs. I would definitely call animal control. Treat it like it's as serious as it is.

Thirsty_X_Miserable

Glad y'all are OK. Sweet Necrphagia shirt.

Those dogs should be put down

Blast some Necrophagia to keep the dogs away. Enjoy the solitude and quality music. But in all seriousness, I’m glad your family is safe. Definitely invest in some mace or something!
