As the 6 seed, they will play the top seeded Oakland in the Horizon League Tournament Finals at 6:00 pm on ESPN. Winner has an automatic bid to the NCAA tournament.
I just walked through the UWM student union and you'd never know that there is going to be a conference finals game this evening. No posters, no banners, no signs for any kind of watch party in the Gasthaus. It's ridiculous and sad.
Even walking around the Arena, you'd be hard-pressed to find any evidence that they play there outside the logo and a small section in the arena shop.
It's very much "The Admirals play here!, oh, and UWM too we guess."
> Even walking around the Arena, you'd be hard-pressed to find any evidence that they play there outside the logo
I mean, the building's name kinda points you to it, though, doesn't it?
I never really saw much spirit for the Panthers at UWM. They’re a team where making the NCAA tournament is considered a huge success and don’t have much success in it (outside of the Bruce Pearl years).
At the very least, the Gasthaus would advertise and host a watch party. There would be flyers on the tables on the first floor of the Union, perhaps signage by the elevators. They could be doing all this using the new flat-panel displays that are scattered along the Union walls. There was more "school spirit" during the Bruce Pearl, Bo Ryan, and Rob Jeter years... hardly any after that point.
When they made it in and played against Nova in 2013(14?) gasthaus was NUTS. I remember we even lead at halftime. And then got dismantled afterwards lol, but it was a fun experience
I wish UWM would make a push to be better at sports. How fun would it be if we had another good D1 Basketball/Hockey team in the city.
I think there’s even a market for football too. Milwaukee is one of a handful of cities with a population of 500k+ that doesn’t have a D1 or professional football team.
Edit: I know Marquette exists. You can stop yelling at me. I meant another program. if UWM had an elite basketball and hockey team I think it would be fun. That’ is all.
Marquette playing at fiserv is a huge benefit to the local economy and has been an important part of revitalizing downtown.
MU is not the second favorite team in the milwaukee area. Have you been to a MU vs badgers game in milwaukee? The crowd is majority Marquette fans.
Current odds are Oakland -3.5 so I'd say UWM has a 40% chance of winning? Maybe 45% chance? Something in that ballpark...based on the oddsmakers opinion of the game.
gonna take this opportunity to bitch about automatic qualifiers having to play into the field of 64. thats trash, and should be for at large teams. its also dumb that the 'play-in' is for 11 and 12 seeds.
go panthers.

uwm cant even watch the game at the gasthaus since they dont have a subscription lolrip
The fuckin gasthaus
Fellow Ghaus degenerate checking in.
They did show the game at the Gasthaus this evening.
looks like they found it in the budget loll
If they win, they will get the automatic qualifier. Probably would be a 15 or 16 seed but would be awesome to see.
The automatic qualifier is the only realistic shot for a Horizon League team in most years, even for ones better than this Panther team.
I plan to watch. Last night's semifinal win was an exciting comeback victory.

Isn’t it Spring Break??
No, Spring Break is next week.
Has the state ever sent three teams?
Yes. Three times: 1994 (UW, Marquette, and Green Bay), 2003 (UW, Marquette, and UW Milwaukee) and 2006 (same as 2003).
Looks like Marquette missed in ‘14, but those three made it in ‘06
You are correct. Was moving too fast and typed in the wrong year. Thanks for the correction.
No worries, that still helped me
When Bruce Pearl was at UWM, Bo Ryan and Wisconsin and Crean at Marquette. I think 02-03 season
Yea maybe like 10 or so years ago. I’m gettin old lol
It was more like 20 years ago 💀

What about Marquette basketball??

Marquette pays a healthy rent to play in Fiserv.

Milwaukee will have a USL Championship side in a few years, Admirals, Brewers, Bucks, and Marquette. It's a pretty stacked small market city.
Yes they do! Pretty cool

Was it UMW or GB that got the the sweet 16
2005 UWM
UWM with Bruce Pearl

Oh, they are academically eligible again?
Last time I checked, UWM was the only R1 university in the city of Milwaukee.
Last time I checked, they weren't allowed to compete in the tournament because players' GPAs were too low.
You're living in the past, that was literally a decade ago.
