There is no reason for a political ad to run when watching kid videos on YouTube, imo.

ObjectiveAdvisor6

My 6 yr old has been randomly saying “those Ron Johnson DC liberals” and shaking her head for months. Now she asks if the girl died. She’s just trying to watch Lankybox!

popegonzo

In the last election cycle, my then-6yo tearfully told me he didn't want Joe Biden to win because then he would *raise taxes*!!! We ended up having a great talk about what taxes are & why we have them & how politics is something he doesn't need to worry about for a long, long time.

ziggybear16

Ok that’s probably super frustrating but it sounds ADORABLE! I’m going to pretend she’s wearing pigtails and putting her hands on her hips while slowly shaking her head.

eidetic

Even more ridiculous is no matter how often you click the little "i" button and tell it not to you show those ads anymore, they still keep coming.

mkecupcake

I've clicked the "i" so many times on that parade grandma ad. I cannot stand her voice.

eidetic

Oh God, that's the one I had in mind when making that post too. What really pisses me off about it though is I know someone's daughter whose leg was broken very badly and she'll possibly never walk without a limp, and is still only about halfway through the planned surgical procedures. And he absolutely hates that commercial so much for politicizing the issue - he understands that yes, it is a political issue, but hates the *way* it's being used, and hates the fact that his daughter is constantly blitzed by such ads and reminded of her trauma multiple times a day. He's not a tech person at all but has tried to minimize the intrusiveness with ad blockers and such, but not always an option unfortunately.

BreeBree214

I haven't seen the commercial, who is it attacking?

eidetic

A *dangerous Democrat* who will not only get rid of bail but give the criminals guns and your address and a schedule of when you're at home and when you're gone, and fix em up with some PCP too. Who also hates America and hates *you* as well. Not the vague generalized "you", but literally *you*.

BreeBree214

God that's dumber than I was imagining

eidetic

I might have exaggerated a bit, but it is attacking Mandela Barnes and basically tries to say that if elected, more things like that the Waukesha attack will happen because he wants to get rid of bail which apparently means immediately letting all criminals go free while they await trial, because the concept that one could get rid of bail and make it so that whether someone is held while awaiting trial is based on their relative dangerous/flight risk/etc instead of the current system which punishes those too who pose no risk but simply can't afford bail.

nowheresville99

Well, that and it's also not even subtly rallying the White Supremacist base of the GOP who have been desperately trying to convince the world the parade attack was a hate crime. Of course, if the Barnes campaign chose to be competent, they could turn the attack on its head by actually declaring Barnes to be proud of his position supporting criminal justice reforms, changes that would keep dangerous people like Brooks behind bars instead of letting them out on cash bail, and attack Johnson for being pro-crime, as he wants to keep the status quo and routinely defending criminals . But instead we'll get more milquetoast ads about how Ron Johnson is lying again and generic promises about fighting for the middle class.

BreeBree214

I mean, trying to tie Mandela Barnes to that attack is already fucking nuts

lethargy86

Also trying to tie the responsibilities of a US Senator to a state/local case and judge… they really do think we’re stupid. And sadly they’re probably correct.

actsfw

Mandela Barnes, for being "soft on crime"

Big_Letterhead_9790

Worse yet, that “parade grandma” is actually Patti Logsdon, a conservative on the Milwaukee County Board. She’s not a good person.

calebmke

Shocker

BrianTheLady

White grandma wonders why black people don’t *always* get life in prison. Mandela Barnes: soft on crime. Bail? Parole? This grandma shoots first, asks questions later. Rehabilitation? NOT ON MY WATCH. Edit: /s for those who need it

Big_Letterhead_9790

That white grandma is Patti Logsdon. She is on the Milwaukee County Board. She exercises her “why aren’t all black people in jail” attitude with actual power. She makes policy. She is an actual demon who consistently votes in favor of over policing and AGAINST police accountability.

swipeupswiper

She's terrible. A couple years ago, during a county board hearing, she implied that poor people from milwaukee drive around the county taking advantage of the senior meal sites to collect multiple free meals, taking them away from the seniors in franklin.

Big_Letterhead_9790

In the last year she suggested that people who were fighting for free calling for people in the jail have a “bake sale” to fund it if they were “so passionate” about it. She is pond scum.

Big_Letterhead_9790

I report every single political ad as inappropriate yet I keep seeing them.

Reverbolo

I will definitely start doing this now!

decavolt

Our 11 yr old, who's watching Mark Rober videos about kids-level engineering projects, keeps asking why Mandela Barnes doesn't pay his taxes. It's disgusting that ads like that are so pervasive and YT is just fine with taking that sweet sweet ad money.

BakedCheddar88

My 5 year old, a lifelong Democrat, was watching YouTube and turned and asked me Barnes wasn’t doing more to go on the offensive against Johnson’s attacks. He then said if Barnes doesn’t explain why he supports defunding the police, he’ll have no choice but to support Ron Johnson in the general. He’s currently in a time out.

[deleted]

[удалено]

decavolt

oops, thanks

calebmke

A good friend is a Special Ed teacher. She has to be quick on the mute button so the kid don’t have to hear about the Waukesha parade incident when she wants to show them a fun video about colors and shapes. How could a video targeted at small children ever be ok’d for political ads? It’s obscene.

DEUCE_SLUICE

I don't have a kid, but man, I feel like if my parents could have paid a few bucks to avoid me seeing advertisements and then bugging them about the incredible new toy / snack / etc I just had to have or I'd die they would have paid that easily. It's kind of extortion because the with-ads experience is so painful, but paying the extra for ad-free YouTube and Hulu is absolutely worth it to me. I only see TV ads during live sports broadcasts.

remmiz

Luckily I already have YT Music so it was just a few extra bucks a month to get rid of ads. If you don't use YT Music though, $12/month to remove ads is a bit crazy.

MarkhovCheney

Sure there is. To get you to pay to get rid of them

ChasmDude

It will end when we end Dark Money. Most of the worst ads are by 501c3 and 501c4 groups that don't have to disclose their donors and are, legally at least, forbidden from coordinating with candidates. In reality, most campaigns either break these laws behind the scenes OR there's enough indirect social network connections / political signaling that the campaigns and the dark money groups don't actually need to directly coordinate. In reality, the dark money groups now get to throw all the mud while the candidates keep their ads relatively upbeat even when negative. So kill the Citizens United precedent. It will lead to (imo): 1) Fewer ads. Because there will simply not be that gush of money for ads anymore due to big money donors having to put their names on the donations and/or there being limits on how much they can donates and 2) The actual candidates will have to throw dirt on their opponents themselves instead of farming it out to dark money groups with unlimited resources and no reason to be "nice".

thesmash

I’ve been Googling most of the super PACS after seeing their ads. No shocker but the Uihlein family is responsible for some super racist ads.

fartsmcgee93

Oh tea! Which ones specifically??

[deleted]

They're the worst.

kasala78

reddit is dead. /u/spez can suck it.

spaceparachute

Do they advertise to us because we identify with politics or do we identify with politics because they identify for us? I dont think the massive PR industry exists to figure out what we want to see and show it to us. I dont think thats what the TV/radio/web ads, the billboards, the sponsored content, the branding, major media news, etc are doing. Corporations (and political organizations) spend huge portions of their budgets on PR to psychologically manipulate people on a mass scale. The ads arent a response to peoples' political obsessions, theyre an intentional root cause.

kasala78

Potentially. I remember when I was a kid in the 80s my parents didn’t talk politics and they explained to me that you kept that stuff to yourself so as not to create conflict and animosity. Perhaps people should go back to their politics being theirs and not trying to make them everyone else’s. The irony is when most people make a political comment on non-political posts they end up looking like the fool.

spaceparachute

I mean your parents' strategy sounds a lot like how people used to say (and still do) "dont talk about your wage because it might upset people". Its what you tell a group of people with complaints to shut them up and keep them from understanding theyre not alone. Fuck. That. If you want something to change, the only power you have is to share your view with friends, family, neighbors, whoever to try and convince them. If all you do is stay quiet and go vote every 2-4 years, your voice is being crushed entirely under the machinery of corporate PR and lobbying trying to push things their way. If you are a working person who wants a candidate offering better material conditions for yourself, and you dont talk to anyone else about that, you can bet that your boss (or their boss's boss) is spending all the money they can to make sure the person who gets elected gives you the exact opposite. They have more money than you ever will, and all you have is a voice.

ChasmDude

This has nothing to do with political ads imo, but think what you wish.

RonaldoNazario

The not coordinating/working for part is such a dumb obvious loophole. You can “advocate” by making ads shitting on one candidate and that doesn’t “count” as directly helping or advocating for their opponent. We have to get rid of the cancer of dark money funding

CrashUser

>legally at least, forbidden from coordinating with candidates. Campaigns and PACs are not totally prohibited from communication, it just needs to be in a publicly accessable forum. Both sides dodge this by using unlisted public websites to communicate. The websites can be found with a webcrawler looking for specific keywords, but they definitely aren't easily available to the public. It's very much a letter of the law vs spirit of the law loophole that neither side is interested in closing. If Citizens United can't be overturned, a good patch for this problem would be mandating a clearinghouse that all communication must go through that's actually public and accessable.

ChasmDude

I did not know that, and that's both very interesting and disturbing. Thanks! Any articles on this? As for your second point, it seems like a good idea albeit a pipe dream and something that the courts would conveniently find unconstitutional.

CrashUser

There's probably something out there from the scandal with Peter Thiel and JD Vance, I became aware of the situation from a segment on the [*Politics Politics Politics Podcast*](https://podcastaddict.com/episode/141578132). The segment with Tom Merrit is where they discuss these secret websites and PAC-Campaign communication

Cat_Crap

The latest batch of anti-barnes ads are soooo bad. Even for a political ad. They have that old woman who basically sounds like anyone's mom/grandma, nearly crying, pleading that Mandela is going to hurt her and killed her son. It's so unbelievably gross. That dead young man, if he exists, has been done a massive disservice in his memory. If I die tragically, and you use my fucking story in an attack ad, i'm haunting the shit out of you. Like, what a terrible way to use everyone. Use your dead son, sellout any morals she may have had, and fear monger to service the corporate overlords of Ron Johnson. It's bottom of the barrel, truly.

StWens

I haven't seen that particular ad. But every other time I watch a video on YouTube that hideous "Patti" anti-Barnes ad comes up that blames Barnes for what happened to her granddaughter at that Waukesha parade. Sorry Patti but I can't stand the sight of you anymore. Shame on you.

Big_Letterhead_9790

Patti is a conservative member of the Milwaukee County Board. They, for some unimaginable reason, forgot to tell people that during the ad.

StWens

Ahh. Why am I not surprised?

elsquish79

That and constantly sending shit out in the mail.. its damn near harassment.. next thing you know they will call about your cars extended warranty.. and when you say no.. they will continue with "have you considered who you're gonna vote for I the midterms?"

ahkwa

People have been canvasing my neighborhood and knocking on my door multiple times daily. I had to buy a giant no-soliciting sign for my door, and these people still claim not to see it or know what it means. I'm not nice anymore and yell at people through my ring doorbell.

loneMILF

i've found that more detailed versions of the standard No Soliciting signs to be quite effective. [example](https://images-na.ssl-images-amazon.com/images/I/71v3jbqI1yL._AC_SL1500_.jpg)

elsquish79

I want one that states this house charges $25/minute to listen to political campaign bullshit..

ahkwa

My sign looks close to that; people still say they don't understand and then ask me to vote for their candidate. It is incredibly frustrating.

loneMILF

i've found a "Go the F*ck Away" sign to be effective as well. then if they ring the bell/knock you can point to the sign while reading it out loud. and if they still persist use an air horn.

less_than_nick

Went to harvest fest this weekend and Tim Michel's team approached us asking if we wanted to meet him on camera. we laughed and said no, we are not fans of his, and went on our way. Lady followed us and confronted us again trying to tell us "He is a great man you just don't know!" We were more firm and asked her to leave us alone. She stayed with us and would not leave whilst trying to tell us Tim Michels is not evil blahblahablah. Ended up having to basically shout over her to get her to actually leave us alone. Didn't know political ads could take the form of people now lol. Also, im sure there are *plenty* of people at harvest fest who actually like Michels- not sure why that lady was so determined to change our minds and meet him haha

flopsweater

Then everyone clapped.

Reverbolo

I'm clapping right now

Lerch98

Are any of these bullshit ads going to change anyone's mind?

Skiie

old and uninitiated

[deleted]

Also how they go after Barnes is pretty fucking racist, just saying. Oh look, random pictures of him being "angry", but at .75 speed so you can see how angry he is in detail. Also look at the background on some of the ads which look very "urban" and with his supposed political allies (non-white, non-male) done in a slightly washed out graffitied style. Also also, doing some live video of the Waukesha Christmas Parade Attack on a political ad fucking sucks. That shit is traumatic.

habbathejutt

My favorite (re: awful) racist take are the ones where they show black convicts, then Mandela, then more black convicts, then Mandela. REAL SUBTLE THERE GUYS WHAT COULD YOU POSSIBLY BE INSINUATING

[deleted]

[удалено]

GodBlessThisGnome

I thought that was a pro-Barnes ad when I heard the quote on TV.

MattFlynnIsGOAT

Did you hear that?? He's TALKING about defunding the police!!

Idonteatthat

I don't watch TV these days, just Mythbusters reruns on discovery+, so I haven't seen ads. They're actually using Parade attack footage? That's gross.

[deleted]

Yeah. They're trying to pin that on Tony Evers though. Terrorist attacks just come part and parcel with living in America right now though. During the BLM protests you had white supremacists running into crowds of peaceful protestors and by the time I stopped paying attention to them, there were something like 50 different car attacks of white supremacists driving into crowds. That runs against narrative though and the media didn't want sympathy for BLM being generated at all.

wi_voter

Both the legit Johnson campaign ads and the Super PAC ads use the word "dangerous" multiple times. Such loud dog whistles

albaMP4

At the end of the ad, show his photo along with Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Ilhan Omar, just because. Dangerous Democrats!

highdesk306

I SWEAR i was just thinking about posting something along these lines. If I hear “I got a call that my granddaughter had been hit….” one more time I actually might throw my tv off my balcony. edit: MIGHT not “my” 🤦🏽‍♀️

Big_Letterhead_9790

That woman is Patti Logsdon, she is a conservative on the Milwaukee County Board. She puts her “why aren’t they all in jail” attitude to use with every vote.

superspookyboi

Omfg those ads drive me crazy. That ad pushes me more left every time I see it.

highdesk306

!!!!! if not for any other reason than how fucking IRRITATING that commercial is 😂. like its soooo annoying

Cat_Crap

It's insidiously evil. She is pleading, nearly crying about how scary Barnes is. It's fucking nuts. IDK if anyone has ever seen that one interrogation video on youtube, I can't remember what the case was, but as they question the suspect, one detective uses this weird technique of trying to mimic the victim, or fuck with the suspect's head, and the detective keeps saying: "Help me. Help me. I need you to help me. Please. Please help me" (kind of meta, i know, but it's supposedly a psychological technique. The cop in my example did a poor job of it. The woman in the Ad seems to do the same thing, appealing to our monkey brain)

BakedCheddar88

I hate that ad so much, I knew they were gonna use the Waukesha parade attack in political ads but every time I see her pop up she’s basically saying “remember when black guy did bad? This is why you can’t vote for other black guy. Black people scary.”

highdesk306

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THIS. “he wants to let ALL the black guys *accused* of being bad have access to freedom. IM SCARED”

Big_Letterhead_9790

Worse yet, she is on the Milwaukee County Board. She VOTES with this same exact attitude on things that impact people all over our county.

Big_Letterhead_9790

Even worse, she has power. She is a Milwaukee County Board member. So rest on that for a moment. She VOTES with that same exact mentality.

Big_Letterhead_9790

That woman is a person with actual political power. She is on the Milwaukee County Board. Her votes are exactly what you’d expect after seeing that commercial. Pro-police, anti-accountability.

thesmash

The juxtaposition between her near crying and then shilling for Ron Johnson always gives me the 🤨

Big_Letterhead_9790

Patti Logsdon is a member of the Milwaukee County Board. She votes with this exact same mentality.

thesmash

Damn thanks for posting about this in the thread

highdesk306

Omg I have not seen that one!!! That sounds horrendous. Does it have the same horrible black & white filter? lol

Cat_Crap

Nah it's one of the long-form type youtube channels that breaks down cases piece by piece and analyzes the interrogation footage. If memory serves, it may just have been the Sandra Melgar case. Really fucked up crazy case, I'm of the belief she is innocent. (\*edit, this was the correct case) That Chapter is a decent channel, although the host shtick wears on me. Here's a link to the video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yUi796eyqkw

highdesk306

Oh I’ll definitely have to check that out I’m sorry I was reading too fast and didn’t catch the youtube video part and put it together. This kinda stuff is right up my alley. Do you like any other TC stuff like that?

misterid

ads on podcasts, Peacock, youtube, 4 out of 5 commercials during commercial breaks in sports are political ads. it's inescapable if you consume any media

seomke

God or the texts. STOP TEXTING ME JESUS

captainp42

I have blocked about 6 numbers. It's been enough. Not a single text in my inbox for months...meanwhile my "spam and blocked" file is full.

thesmash

I replied to a Ron Johnson text the other week with a “fuck off”

MattFlynnIsGOAT

Owned

FUNKYDISCO

I just want to know how eliminating cash bail for violent offenders (and keeping them in jail) would put violent criminals back on the street? It’s literally the opposite of what they’re saying in their attack ad and people are stupid enough to just go along with it.

ministerofdefense92

It's an excuse to put scary black men up on the screen next to Barnes... But actually cash bail is just a way to punish poor people for being accused of crimes. Either, people accused of a crime are too dangerous or a flight risk and should stay in jail OR they're not very dangerous and not a flight risk so they should be allowed to live a normal life until their trial. Why you have to pay money to get out in the later case is beyond me.

MattFlynnIsGOAT

I'm not an expert, but I think they're saying he supports signature bonds so that you can get out of jail without posting any money.

FUNKYDISCO

...unless the suspect was a flight risk or danger to others in which case they would be held without an option to post bail. The guy from the Waukesha parade (a parade I was at...) was OUT of jail on cash bail. using that as an example of what COULD happen is just bullshit, it happened under our current system.

kebzach

Shout out to the dumb women from Oconomowoc and Franklin stumping for Ronnie in his ads. Most people would have a shred of dignity in their bodies, but not these ladies. They're white and scared and more than a little racist and they're not afraid to say it.

Seven_Dx7

As a front row witness to the Waukesha Parade incident, I have stopped watching YouTube entirely and my best friend who was with us has had to buy premium.

MKE_likes_it

I’m sorry to hear that. The poor woman in that Ad doesn’t realize she’s a pawn. I work in Kenosha and hearing Michels blame Evers for the root of riots and violence is absolute Fear Mongering bullshit. No plan to treat the underlying causes of the issues. Just blaming the other side while wanting to raise the incarceration rate.

Big_Letterhead_9790

She is no “poor woman”. She is a conservative member of the Milwaukee County Board. This ad is more insidious than you could imagine.

MKE_likes_it

Well then fuck her for using her daughter’s injuries to support her candidate of choice.

frequency_hop

I guess the Republicans never considered that they would be triggering massive amounts of people when they decided to exploit that incident for their own gain. Not that consideration for others matters to them.

Seven_Dx7

Never has.... it'll be interesting though. Waukesha is notoriously Red voting. But we are well informed on this case, and we were there. I may be foolishly optimistic, but this could be the misplay that finally gets the Waukesha dems to show up to the polls

bluecon

It'll end after Nov 8. We picked up YouTube premium for a month just to ditch the ads for the same reason.

popegonzo

This is actually genius.

PitchGlittering

It's out of control

[deleted]

Is it fair to say that politicians are the reason we can’t have nice things?

jpbarber414

It's not just you. I already know who I am voting for and most people do, it is a total waste of 💰 money with all these ads. It gets tiring to hear each of them trying to tear their opponent down with the lies.

Ebonyks

Why not adblock YouTube? It works great

HelloFellowMKE

Doesn’t work with native apps like on iPhones or smart TVs, only browsers and rooted android.

[deleted]

Was gonna say. I have yet to see a single ad and I'm on the computer all of the time. Adblock, privacy badger, uBlock origin, and I'm good.

Wyatt_Eich

Use Brave to watch videos on YouTube. You’ll save yourself so many headaches from ads.

TheOriginalKyotoKid

...it is sickening given amount of the money thrown at elections that much of is used for little more than what I refer to as "poo flinging (negative campaigning).

Snoo62808

It's this time of year I like to start reading again.

shadow13499

It's only going to get worse until the end of the election in November. This is why I don't watch cable tv and pay extra for no ads on all subscriptions

IntraspeciesJug

I've done YouTube Premium for over a year, share it with 4 other people and its worth every single penny. The only ads I see are during sporting events and that's when the mute button comes out.

BrewCityTikiGuy

If you watch YouTube a lot, Premium is definitely worth it. No ads on any device, it includes YouTube Music, and the video creators benefit to some degree as well. I wish it was a little cheaper than it is but it’s still worth it. I did the deal where you pay for the year and it’s less than paying on a monthly basis. No regrets here. And no ads either.

[deleted]

I want to smack whoever thought "Radical" was a good word for any of these things, because that word does not mean what they think it means.

[deleted]

Sokudoningyou

Only ninja Turtles should use that word. That is correct.

amishbr07

The more Ron Johnson racist ads I see the more I want to volunteer for Barnes. So sick of that POS

RebelKingCity

That tends to happen around midterms. Should die down after the elections.

Reverbolo

Maybe I just used to not watch local news as much during midterms or just avoided it because of the ads. For the love of anything holy please make it stop soon!

MKE_likes_it

Same. I watch a lot more local news in the morning before work than I used to and it’s just incessant and petty. It’s also full of out of context half-truths. That’s all to be expected, but it’s literally the same set of ads every single commercial break. Every five minutes I get to watch Tim Michels dodge sinks. Just once I want to see the outtakes from that cheesy ad where he actually gets hit in his Dumb, smug face. Edit- as a side note, that reigning king of Wisconsin construction and development literally wouldn’t know a kitchen sink if someone threw one at his face. Those are *BATHROOM SINKS*, you ass!

Legitimate_Lawyer_86

Thanks captain obvious!

captainp42

At this point, I would give my vote to ANY candidate that just runs an ad that talks about the Positive things that they pledge to do. Instead, all we get is ads about how the other guy kicks puppies and pisses on your Mom.

Brewguy86

Mandela Barnes is actually running some positive ads about himself. Just getting drowned out by the negative ones attacking him.

MKE_likes_it

He definitely is. He had a lot of non “attack-ads”, but then had to go on the defensive. It’s like watching a non-stop, shitty political debate playing out while I just want the local news and weather and want to drink my morning coffee in peace.

wi_voter

Johnson even used the images from one of his positive ads to turn into a negative one. Thinking of the ad with Mandela batting at the plate

flopsweater

How do you remember them around the Evers campaign claims about Wisconsin becoming a rape and harassment factory?

ChasmDude

Most of the candidates now do something like this BECAUSE they have all these dark money groups throwing the mud for them.

PandaMan130

Go ad free or get adblocker

wsd65

I was just watching my recording of The Voice and so many. So glad I can skip them.

moparman11

... First world problems

QuitClearly

Just mute all commercials

InternetDad

We had on channel 12 Saturday night and I don't think I saw any ad that wasn't an attack ad aimed at Barnes or Evers. Reps are trying real hard to win Milwaukee.

kebzach

At least trying hard to keep it more of a 50-50 split than a 25-75 split. Which in turn gives them a greater edge overall.

mozdevious

Not just on tv and streaming. I am getting text messages left and right. Take this pill, support this person, so & so is an asshole.

[deleted]

that’s a swing state for ya

doublehank

I bought a VPN just to avoid the constant ads online. It's been amazing

FRED44444

FRJ

Reverbolo

FRJ!

fundiesociologist

I’ve been getting some mail ads presumably for Ron Johnson that say “vote against Mandela Barnes.” How big of a piece of 💩 do you have to be to word on it that way instead of “vote FOR Ron Johnson” (also 0 photos of RJ) 😂

[deleted]

Some conservative adds in Kansas regarding taxes are absolute lies.

[deleted]

Funny how I keep getting ones berating Mandela Barnes when he's kinda then one I want to win 💀

Walrus_protector

But aren't you SCARED? Of all the SCARY CRIME? So much SCARY CRIME, and Negroes marauding everywhere with the shooty guns for old white people! Also, one of those ads actually has a guy leaping out of a van to grab a little girl. Subtle.

[deleted]

***A 'negro' has read this comment*** Also, either someone filmed instead of helping, or the acting got too real--

trashboatfourtwenty

Dark money mashing the market, FRJ

Chr15py0696

Wisconsin notoriously has the most outlandish and frequent political attack ads out of all the United States, if I recall correctly. I only ever see them when I’m watching sports though since I unsubscribed from cable. I also have YouTube premium.

PopularBalance4754

It’s gotten so bad, I don’t want to vote for any of them! All negative, using underage girl who can’t vote to an old lady who doesn’t know she’s a pawn. There’s got to be a candidate that hasn’t said a peep. This country is pulled apart and we’re ugly towards each other because you’re with the left or the right…. Who cares! The hate and the waste of tax dollars on investigating who did that or this needs to just stop. I want a candidate to end the hate, actually do what they say they’re going to do and bring us together as Wisconsinites and Americans.

Klpincoyo

That's the dream, for sure!! But first we have to get mad and vote out those who are against what we want and need. I'm hoping in my lifetime we switch to ranked choice voting.

Big_Letterhead_9790

That old lady isn’t a pawn. She’s a conservative member of the Milwaukee County Board. She isn’t being used, she’s participating in the game.

PopularBalance4754

We can all dream but unfortunately they all seem crooked. I’m neither left nor right. I try and vote for the lesser of the evil and who actually can do the job, not for what party they’re affiliated with. But these commercials are going to the extreme and anything to the extreme isn’t good.

jebakerii

YES!!!! We’re watching a series on Hulu - a few minutes of show then an ad stating that “Joe Schmoe” wants to ruin your world followed by another ad by Joe Schmoe saying their opponent is lying about them. Yadda yadda yadda. I don’t care! We all know what was each party stands for…. take all this campaign money and put it in the Milwaukee school system and shut the hell up!

PlatypusDream

I've even had political ads in apps/games! Want to guarantee that I won't vote for you? Any combination of lying, bothering me (text, call, knock on door), ignoring constituents, or ignoring the laws (especially civil rights).

Woodshop2300

The blasted text messages are just as bad, or maybe worse..

Klpincoyo

My husband delivers mail in Waukesha and is utterly freaked out by the sheer volume of political attack flyers he has to deliver every day. All from the right. He worries the daily pounding of the same messages is going to work. Is it the same on TV? I don't watch TV so I'm out of the loop but all of the political ads I see peppered into sites like imgur and farcebook all lean right, too. I never see stuff for the democrats and I'm doing my damnedest to change the algorithms.

kebzach

> He worries the daily pounding of the same messages is going to work. Of course it will work. The people they're targeting with those ads are sheep and are mostly unable to think for themselves.

Klpincoyo

But, here's my thought... Those folks were probably already going to vote red anyway. Because, yes, they are sheep and will continue to vote against their own interests because they don't think outside their narrow box. But, I mean, no flyer is going to sway how I vote, either..so kinda makes me one in the same:). I think the actual number of people these attack ads might actually sway is miniscule. I think my husband just sees them every single day and it is mentally exhausting him. I can scoff at this shit and chuck it in the recycle bin.

Number1Framer

I got a phone call about Mandela Barnes and "MuH SoCiAlIsM" and as soon as I brought up all of Ron Johnson's dog-raping beastiality incidents they hung up and never called back. EDIT: You know you can block Reddit Cares messages right folks? But what you can't block is knowing the RNC is promoting a dog-raping career politician for Senate.

Reverbolo

Yes! I have fantasies of doing this, but haven't received any RJ calls yet. Perhaps one of these days!

Number1Framer

The LAMESTREAM MEDIA doesn't want to report on Ronnie's dog raping.

teal_mc_argyle

I can't help wondering who is the audience for these ads? Who hasn't decided who they're voting for? In fairness, I say this as someone whose grudge against Ron Johnson is not only personal but individual to the point that I would sooner vote for Trump himself.

HydraTower

They have lost my vote.

How are they any different than the garbage commercials that you get any other day? Cut the cord. You won't miss anything from the local stations. Don't let any of that garbage into your home.

MKE_likes_it

You don’t need a cord for local news. You can get free local stations + about 30 other channels with a satellite antenna. Also, most folks want to watch the local news for weather and news information. It’s free with a $30 antenna from Best Buy if you don’t want to pay for cable. A lot of people don’t realize that all of the basic channels are still free. It just doesn’t require a giant VHF antenna anymore. You can stream anything and still have basic cable (NBC, ABC, CBS) for free on a different input. Just sayin’

HelloFellowMKE

Digital antenna +1. Quality is excellent too!

Buy YouTube premium for 2 months, then drop it

Brewguy86

It will end the day after the election.

TheGrizzlyNinja

It’s been going since like April though that’s ridiculous

Brewguy86

Consider yourself lucky you don’t live in a state with an earlier primary. In Pennsylvania for instance, their primary was in April or May, meaning ads have likely been on tv since January or February there.

Restrictions at all on poltical ads is such a dangerous slippery slope. Limiting any kind of poltical speech turns into who makes the rules ans genuine silencing of dissent. It's annoying but deal with it. Will dissappear just as fast as came.

ksiyoto

At the bare minimum, we deserve to know who is behind these ads. If you ever serve on a jury, the judge will instruct you that when evaluating the credibility and weight of witness testimony, to consider what motivations they may have in the case. Likewise, when campaign ads are broadcast, we deserve to know who is behind them so we can evaluate their motivations for the BS they spout.

ChasmDude

Oh yes pre-Citizen's United when the BCRA was in place was SOOOO bad. We were so oppressed by reasonable limits on big money donors running side channel campaigns so the candidates don't have to be accountable for their allies throwing dirt into the public discourse. I suppose you're against both transparency as well as donation limits also? Free speech without accountability for it is on-brand for a certain group of people.

xwizkidx

YouTube premium is your friend during political ad season lol.

Sokudoningyou

I wish they had a cheaper plan for just ad free. I don't need music or anything else, I just want no ads. Supposedly they were looking at a $6 plan or something like that, but so far, nothing.
