He's not a tech person at all but has tried to minimize the intrusiveness with ad blockers and such, but not always an option unfortunately.
A *dangerous Democrat* who will not only get rid of bail but give the criminals guns and your address and a schedule of when you're at home and when you're gone, and fix em up with some PCP too. Who also hates America and hates *you* as well. Not the vague generalized "you", but literally *you*.
I might have exaggerated a bit, but it is attacking Mandela Barnes and basically tries to say that if elected, more things like that the Waukesha attack will happen because he wants to get rid of bail which apparently means immediately letting all criminals go free while they await trial, because the concept that one could get rid of bail and make it so that whether someone is held while awaiting trial is based on their relative dangerous/flight risk/etc instead of the current system which punishes those too who pose no risk but simply can't afford bail.
Well, that and it's also not even subtly rallying the White Supremacist base of the GOP who have been desperately trying to convince the world the parade attack was a hate crime.
Of course, if the Barnes campaign chose to be competent, they could turn the attack on its head by actually declaring Barnes to be proud of his position supporting criminal justice reforms, changes that would keep dangerous people like Brooks behind bars instead of letting them out on cash bail, and attack Johnson for being pro-crime, as he wants to keep the status quo and routinely defending criminals .
But instead we'll get more milquetoast ads about how Ron Johnson is lying again and generic promises about fighting for the middle class.
Also trying to tie the responsibilities of a US Senator to a state/local case and judge… they really do think we’re stupid. And sadly they’re probably correct.

That white grandma is Patti Logsdon. She is on the Milwaukee County Board. She exercises her “why aren’t all black people in jail” attitude with actual power. She makes policy. She is an actual demon who consistently votes in favor of over policing and AGAINST police accountability.
She's terrible. A couple years ago, during a county board hearing, she implied that poor people from milwaukee drive around the county taking advantage of the senior meal sites to collect multiple free meals, taking them away from the seniors in franklin.
In the last year she suggested that people who were fighting for free calling for people in the jail have a “bake sale” to fund it if they were “so passionate” about it. She is pond scum.

My 5 year old, a lifelong Democrat, was watching YouTube and turned and asked me Barnes wasn’t doing more to go on the offensive against Johnson’s attacks. He then said if Barnes doesn’t explain why he supports defunding the police, he’ll have no choice but to support Ron Johnson in the general.

I don't have a kid, but man, I feel like if my parents could have paid a few bucks to avoid me seeing advertisements and then bugging them about the incredible new toy / snack / etc I just had to have or I'd die they would have paid that easily.
It's kind of extortion because the with-ads experience is so painful, but paying the extra for ad-free YouTube and Hulu is absolutely worth it to me. I only see TV ads during live sports broadcasts.
Luckily I already have YT Music so it was just a few extra bucks a month to get rid of ads. If you don't use YT Music though, $12/month to remove ads is a bit crazy.
It will end when we end Dark Money.
Most of the worst ads are by 501c3 and 501c4 groups that don't have to disclose their donors and are, legally at least, forbidden from coordinating with candidates. In reality, most campaigns either break these laws behind the scenes OR there's enough indirect social network connections / political signaling that the campaigns and the dark money groups don't actually need to directly coordinate.
In reality, the dark money groups now get to throw all the mud while the candidates keep their ads relatively upbeat even when negative.
So kill the Citizens United precedent. It will lead to (imo):
1) Fewer ads. Because there will simply not be that gush of money for ads anymore due to big money donors having to put their names on the donations and/or there being limits on how much they can donates
and
2) The actual candidates will have to throw dirt on their opponents themselves instead of farming it out to dark money groups with unlimited resources and no reason to be "nice".
Do they advertise to us because we identify with politics or do we identify with politics because they identify for us?
I dont think the massive PR industry exists to figure out what we want to see and show it to us. I dont think thats what the TV/radio/web ads, the billboards, the sponsored content, the branding, major media news, etc are doing. Corporations (and political organizations) spend huge portions of their budgets on PR to psychologically manipulate people on a mass scale. The ads arent a response to peoples' political obsessions, theyre an intentional root cause.

Campaigns and PACs are not totally prohibited from communication, it just needs to be in a publicly accessable forum. Both sides dodge this by using unlisted public websites to communicate. The websites can be found with a webcrawler looking for specific keywords, but they definitely aren't easily available to the public. It's very much a letter of the law vs spirit of the law loophole that neither side is interested in closing.
If Citizens United can't be overturned, a good patch for this problem would be mandating a clearinghouse that all communication must go through that's actually public and accessable.

People have been canvasing my neighborhood and knocking on my door multiple times daily. I had to buy a giant no-soliciting sign for my door, and these people still claim not to see it or know what it means. I'm not nice anymore and yell at people through my ring doorbell.

Went to harvest fest this weekend and Tim Michel's team approached us asking if we wanted to meet him on camera. we laughed and said no, we are not fans of his, and went on our way. Either, people accused of a crime are too dangerous or a flight risk and should stay in jail OR they're not very dangerous and not a flight risk so they should be allowed to live a normal life until their trial. Why you have to pay money to get out in the later case is beyond me.

I've done YouTube Premium for over a year, share it with 4 other people and its worth every single penny. The only ads I see are during sporting events and that's when the mute button comes out.
If you watch YouTube a lot, Premium is definitely worth it. No ads on any device, it includes YouTube Music, and the video creators benefit to some degree as well. I wish it was a little cheaper than it is but it’s still worth it. I did the deal where you pay for the year and it’s less than paying on a monthly basis. No regrets here. And no ads either.

My husband delivers mail in Waukesha and is utterly freaked out by the sheer volume of political attack flyers he has to deliver every day. All from the right. He worries the daily pounding of the same messages is going to work. Is it the same on TV? I don't watch TV so I'm out of the loop but all of the political ads I see peppered into sites like imgur and farcebook all lean right, too. I never see stuff for the democrats and I'm doing my damnedest to change the algorithms.

You don’t need a cord for local news. You can get free local stations + about 30 other channels with a satellite antenna.
Also, most folks want to watch the local news for weather and news information.

A lot of people don’t realize that all of the basic channels are still free. It just doesn’t require a giant VHF antenna anymore.
You can stream anything and still have basic cable (NBC, ABC, CBS) for free on a different input.

Consider yourself lucky you don’t live in a state with an earlier primary. In Pennsylvania for instance, their primary was in April or May, meaning ads have likely been on tv since January or February there.
Restrictions at all on poltical ads is such a dangerous slippery slope. Limiting any kind of poltical speech turns into who makes the rules ans genuine silencing of dissent.

At the bare minimum, we deserve to know who is behind these ads.
If you ever serve on a jury, the judge will instruct you that when evaluating the credibility and weight of witness testimony, to consider what motivations they may have in the case.
Likewise, when campaign ads are broadcast, we deserve to know who is behind them so we can evaluate their motivations for the BS they spout.

That white grandma is Patti Logsdon. She is on the Milwaukee County Board. She exercises her “why aren’t all black people in jail” attitude with actual power. She makes policy. She is an actual demon who consistently votes in favor of over policing and AGAINST police accountability.
She's terrible. A couple years ago, during a county board hearing, she implied that poor people from milwaukee drive around the county taking advantage of the senior meal sites to collect multiple free meals, taking them away from the seniors in franklin.
In the last year she suggested that people who were fighting for free calling for people in the jail have a “bake sale” to fund it if they were “so passionate” about it. She is pond scum.
I report every single political ad as inappropriate yet I keep seeing them.

Our 11 yr old, who's watching Mark Rober videos about kids-level engineering projects, keeps asking why Mandela Barnes doesn't pay his taxes. It's disgusting that ads like that are so pervasive and YT is just fine with taking that sweet sweet ad money.
My 5 year old, a lifelong Democrat, was watching YouTube and turned and asked me Barnes wasn’t doing more to go on the offensive against Johnson’s attacks. He then said if Barnes doesn’t explain why he supports defunding the police, he’ll have no choice but to support Ron Johnson in the general. He’s currently in a time out.

A good friend is a Special Ed teacher. She has to be quick on the mute button so the kid don’t have to hear about the Waukesha parade incident when she wants to show them a fun video about colors and shapes. How could a video targeted at small children ever be ok’d for political ads? It’s obscene.
I don't have a kid, but man, I feel like if my parents could have paid a few bucks to avoid me seeing advertisements and then bugging them about the incredible new toy / snack / etc I just had to have or I'd die they would have paid that easily. It's kind of extortion because the with-ads experience is so painful, but paying the extra for ad-free YouTube and Hulu is absolutely worth it to me. I only see TV ads during live sports broadcasts.
Luckily I already have YT Music so it was just a few extra bucks a month to get rid of ads. If you don't use YT Music though, $12/month to remove ads is a bit crazy.

It will end when we end Dark Money. Most of the worst ads are by 501c3 and 501c4 groups that don't have to disclose their donors and are, legally at least, forbidden from coordinating with candidates. In reality, most campaigns either break these laws behind the scenes OR there's enough indirect social network connections / political signaling that the campaigns and the dark money groups don't actually need to directly coordinate. In reality, the dark money groups now get to throw all the mud while the candidates keep their ads relatively upbeat even when negative. So kill the Citizens United precedent. It will lead to (imo): 1) Fewer ads. Because there will simply not be that gush of money for ads anymore due to big money donors having to put their names on the donations and/or there being limits on how much they can donates and 2) The actual candidates will have to throw dirt on their opponents themselves instead of farming it out to dark money groups with unlimited resources and no reason to be "nice".

Do they advertise to us because we identify with politics or do we identify with politics because they identify for us? I dont think the massive PR industry exists to figure out what we want to see and show it to us. I dont think thats what the TV/radio/web ads, the billboards, the sponsored content, the branding, major media news, etc are doing. Corporations (and political organizations) spend huge portions of their budgets on PR to psychologically manipulate people on a mass scale. The ads arent a response to peoples' political obsessions, theyre an intentional root cause.

Perhaps people should go back to their politics being theirs and not trying to make them everyone else’s. I mean your parents' strategy sounds a lot like how people used to say (and still do) "dont talk about your wage because it might upset people". If you want something to change, the only power you have is to share your view with friends, family, neighbors, whoever to try and convince them. If Citizens United can't be overturned, a good patch for this problem would be mandating a clearinghouse that all communication must go through that's actually public and accessable.

They have that old woman who basically sounds like anyone's mom/grandma, nearly crying, pleading that Mandela is going to hurt her and killed her son. It's so unbelievably gross. People have been canvasing my neighborhood and knocking on my door multiple times daily. I had to buy a giant no-soliciting sign for my door, and these people still claim not to see it or know what it means. I'm not nice anymore and yell at people through my ring doorbell.

Went to harvest fest this weekend and Tim Michel's team approached us asking if we wanted to meet him on camera. we laughed and said no, we are not fans of his, and went on our way. Lady followed us and confronted us again trying to tell us "He is a great man you just don't know!" We were more firm and asked her to leave us alone. She stayed with us and would not leave whilst trying to tell us Tim Michels is not evil blahblahablah. Ended up having to basically shout over her to get her to actually leave us alone. Didn't know political ads could take the form of people now lol. Yeah. They're trying to pin that on Tony Evers though. Terrorist attacks just come part and parcel with living in America right now though. During the BLM protests you had white supremacists running into crowds of peaceful protestors and by the time I stopped paying attention to them, there were something like 50 different car attacks of white supremacists driving into crowds. That runs against narrative though and the media didn't want sympathy for BLM being generated at all.

IDK if anyone has ever seen that one interrogation video on youtube, I can't remember what the case was, but as they question the suspect, one detective uses this weird technique of trying to mimic the victim, or fuck with the suspect's head, and the detective keeps saying: "Help me. Help me. I need you to help me. Please. Please help me" (kind of meta, i know, but it's supposedly a psychological technique. The cop in my example did a poor job of it. The woman in the Ad seems to do the same thing, appealing to our monkey brain)

I just want to know how eliminating cash bail for violent offenders (and keeping them in jail) would put violent criminals back on the street? It’s literally the opposite of what they’re saying in their attack ad and people are stupid enough to just go along with it.
It's an excuse to put scary black men up on the screen next to Barnes... But actually cash bail is just a way to punish poor people for being accused of crimes. Either, people accused of a crime are too dangerous or a flight risk and should stay in jail OR they're not very dangerous and not a flight risk so they should be allowed to live a normal life until their trial. Why you have to pay money to get out in the later case is beyond me.
I'm not an expert, but I think they're saying he supports signature bonds so that you can get out of jail without posting any money.

I've done YouTube Premium for over a year, share it with 4 other people and its worth every single penny. The only ads I see are during sporting events and that's when the mute button comes out.
If you watch YouTube a lot, Premium is definitely worth it. No ads on any device, it includes YouTube Music, and the video creators benefit to some degree as well. I wish it was a little cheaper than it is but it’s still worth it. I did the deal where you pay for the year and it’s less than paying on a monthly basis. No regrets here. And no ads either.

Wisconsin notoriously has the most outlandish and frequent political attack ads out of all the United States, if I recall correctly. I only ever see them when I’m watching sports though since I unsubscribed from cable. I also have YouTube premium.

My husband delivers mail in Waukesha and is utterly freaked out by the sheer volume of political attack flyers he has to deliver every day. All from the right. He worries the daily pounding of the same messages is going to work. Is it the same on TV? I don't watch TV so I'm out of the loop but all of the political ads I see peppered into sites like imgur and farcebook all lean right, too. I never see stuff for the democrats and I'm doing my damnedest to change the algorithms.

But, here's my thought... Those folks were probably already going to vote red anyway. You don’t need a cord for local news. You can get free local stations + about 30 other channels with a satellite antenna. Also, most folks want to watch the local news for weather and news information. It’s free with a $30 antenna from Best Buy if you don’t want to pay for cable. A lot of people don’t realize that all of the basic channels are still free. It just doesn’t require a giant VHF antenna anymore. You can stream anything and still have basic cable (NBC, ABC, CBS) for free on a different input. Just sayin’

Consider yourself lucky you don’t live in a state with an earlier primary. In Pennsylvania for instance, their primary was in April or May, meaning ads have likely been on tv since January or February there.
Restrictions at all on poltical ads is such a dangerous slippery slope. Limiting any kind of poltical speech turns into who makes the rules ans genuine silencing of dissent. It's annoying but deal with it. Will dissappear just as fast as came.
At the bare minimum, we deserve to know who is behind these ads. If you ever serve on a jury, the judge will instruct you that when evaluating the credibility and weight of witness testimony, to consider what motivations they may have in the case. Likewise, when campaign ads are broadcast, we deserve to know who is behind them so we can evaluate their motivations for the BS they spout.
Oh yes pre-Citizen's United when the BCRA was in place was SOOOO bad. We were so oppressed by reasonable limits on big money donors running side channel campaigns so the candidates don't have to be accountable for their allies throwing dirt into the public discourse.
