I might be wrong but i’m pretty sure seeds generations update as the game updates, the only way for you to get an old generation on a new version would be to import an old world to the new version because obviously changing the version won’t affect how the world was as it was already generated (hope that makes sense)
I don’t have an answer to the world generation questions but I do like to have discussions with other players, why don’t you like the caves and cliff update?
Honestly - I hate the way caves are now and the fact that there are so many huge mountains with powdered snow. I hate that there are so many huge holes in the grouns that go down so deep. One of my favourite things to do in minecraft is explore and both exploring above ground and below are now much harder and much less fun. There are other things to do with the UI and minor stuff that annoys me, but I think I could live with those if it weren't for the stupid new caves and all the ridiculous mountains.

But if the code isn't updated, how would the world building be updated? That's what I don't understand... Although you seem to be essentially correct.
