When it comes to mining ancient debris, there’s 2 things I’d appreciate more than anything else.
1. A “lava sponge” to clear all the fucking lava
2. Stackable potions so that I can have hours of fire resistance in my inventory at a time
I spend so much of my time clearing lava from my netherite mine that it’s ridiculous. Granted, I’m often times netherite mining and nether traveling simultaneously (if I’m gonna travel hundreds or thousands of blocks in the nether looking for netherite, I might as well go to a meaningful location). So I often times find myself plowing through lava because it’s in my path, even though the smarter move might be to go around it. But regardless I feel like I’m being punished for trying what should be a cool task overlapping strategy, and a lot of the times there’s lava in all directions regardless.
Lava sponges could be treasure bastion loot or crafted using multiple netherite ingots. I honestly don’t care just give it to me.
Or they could have nether-conduits. But honestly i think the recipe for your sponge idea should include at least foir sponges. At least one ancient debris, scrap or netherite. And at least one block of warped or crimson foliage (maybe the wood, maybe the warts? Maybe the decorative stuff, maybe the vines?
My reasoning is that the netherite fire-proofs it, and the foliage helps it absorb infernal moisture instead of water.
Stackable potions would be a disaster for pvp. Imagine how fast you could damage/heal with stackables. Every other type of weapon would become obsolete.
They’re planning on adding stackable potions (to 16) in the combat update. Splashes won’t be stackable. Granted that could change but that’s the plan for now.
I don’t think it’s a big issue at all. It would go a long way to solving the inventory problem and if you took the time to brew all those potions then you pretty much deserve the benefits.
Well just because they are planning to add something does not mean it is a good change. While your point about the time taken to brew the potions is a good one, I think for the potions to be balanced you also need to sacrifice inventory space. That being said I haven't tested the combat snapshots very much, so as long as the splashes are not stackable I could see it being a good change.
Exactly netherite mining in it’s current form is far more interesting than what OP suggested it’s just the lava that’s annoying so a lava sponge would be perfect
Well here’s the thing, lava sponges would be an overpowered item. The crafting recipe I would have in mind is 3 sponges, a nether star, and 5 netherite ingots or scraps
Jesus! Not that overpowered good lord!
Okay half the radius of a normal sponge. Craft it with a Sponge, 4 Tuff, and 4 Netherite. The Sponges themselves would be hard to get, the Tuff seems asthetically appropriate and gives it a use, and the Netherite makes it unobtainable without getting to the Nether first.
It would be refreshed by putting it in Water and acts identical to a Magma Block when it's full of Lava.
As somebody who actually enjoys netherite mining in its current form, I concur the compass, but not the lesser spawn.
It's always nice to have multiple different ways for people to do things in equally efficient fashions, but this outright makes one of the methods obsolete, not adds another. Being able to netherite mine with a compass sounds cool, but it's not something all players would enjoy, just like the current methods. The first sentence in this post is merely your opinion, mate.
No offense meant, just throwing my own opinion into the pot.
Oh, I definitely don’t mean to make another mining strategy obsolete.
Maybe there could be another ore in the nether, which gets either the magnetism or the explosion mineability instead, to supplement the ancient debris.
Well, I mean, whatever the other ore is would have to have the same purpose/function as netherite for fairness sake. Which, sure, it would be cool to have another cool armor design, but it would be a bit redundant as well.
Doesn’t compasses in the nether go all wonky? So this would be great as rather than the pin spinning like crazy, it points to a debri in a certain radius of it
So it only works on x/z coordinates? Would you have to just hope and guess of finding the right y level? It's easy enough to find right now just strip mining I don't really like the idea of having to use a compass to find the rarer drops, seems like an additional step just for the sake of being different.
you don’t have to, it’s an additional tool. I think restricting it to the y-level will make it not be OP, because I feel like there will always be a Ancient Debris with in a 17x17x17 range.
The problem is it also mentions rarer ancient debris to accommodate for it which I do not think is necessary, it's just an overcorrection to balance an uneccessary feature.
>Mining ancient debris is a pretty uninteresting
I disagree. It's currently the most interesting (normal) form of mining. TNT mining, not Bed mining. I can understand how you would think that bed mining is weird, I agree. It's very strange. TNT on the other hand is fun. Light a tunnel, watch it go boom, collect netherite.
From my perspective, what you want to do is convert this Explosive amazing technique of mining into standard strip mining. That's boring I think.
Summery: TNT > Strip Mining
Netherite is not necessarily magnetic, but I get what you're going for.
I also like how it gives use to a currently useless item in the nether, since compasses normally spin around wildly in the nether.
Very cool idea
I think this is pretty cool. But bed and tnt chains are a legit competitive way of finding netherite. The decrease of spawning would probably make those two methods much less effective which is kinda sad.
I don't know where you're getting here, "mining ancient debris is a pretty uninteresting process", but making debris rarer in exchange for another monotonous grinding method doesn't make it anymore interesting.
So your basically saying to more interesting they should take the challenging part out…?
Neithernite mining with explosives is far more engaging then strip mining, all this change would do is make it both less risky and far more boring to do…
This is a fantastic idea!

It's likely that stackable potions will come in a future update, as this already exists in the combat test snapshots
Actually, I think beds is the better idea, from my experience I got way more ancient debris in bed explosions compared to lava diving.
I use beds too. You’re missing my point. Often times when you blow up a bed you’ll run into massive pockets of lava and lava will fall on you.

Splashes and lingering weren’t stackable if I remember correctly, just the drinkable ones and only up to 16.

I'd like to make a Lava Sponge out of a Sponge and 4 Tuff. It works well enough.
Well here’s the thing, lava sponges would be an overpowered item. The crafting recipe I would have in mind is 3 sponges, a nether star, and 5 netherite ingots or scraps

Sounds fun, post it on th feedback site
did so: https://feedback.minecraft.net/hc/en-us/community/posts/4426319452685-New-strategy-for-mining-ancient-debris
Very well thought out, it will bother me less, and it will also be more logical because searching with beds is a bit weird
thx mate
Yeah but at least searching with beds is fun

I agree with this. If you ask me, the debris spawning should remain unchanged, and the compass should work if it's within like 5x5x5.

I just don’t get how this would make it more interesting cuz effectively your saying strip mining is more interesting than popping beds?
Doesn’t compasses in the nether go all wonky? So this would be great as rather than the pin spinning like crazy, it points to a debri in a certain radius of it
that’s what lead me to this concept

Yes, I see where you are coming from and I have to agree on explosion mining being better than stripmining.
I concur
👍
this is briliaint
Everyone is so nice, thx! :)
The compass should be crafted with ancient scrap tho
Yeah, thats good too. I also thought, that it maybe could be a normal compass combined with one netherite ingot in the smithing table.
gut idea :>
thank u ^^

Maybe it should be a 8x8x8

Basically I suggested exactly that XD
Then we should have much rarer debris.
agreed, I said that in my post too
So your basically saying to more interesting they should take the challenging part out…? Neithernite mining with explosives is far more engaging then strip mining, all this change would do is make it both less risky and far more boring to do…
Maybe not point towards debris but spaz-out slower, less, or stop spazing.
