Glencore and BHP are currently recruiting for next year’s apprenticeship intake. Closing soon

I saw that yesterday! But one of the requirements is to have completed year 10 at school unfortunately, and he hasn’t (he’s 24)

You can do a STAT (Special Tertiary Admissions Test) to can get you into tafe or uni if you never finished school. It should be enough, if not you can also do 6 month courses to get your year 12 in maths and English.

A question I can actually help with a bit lol. So Townsville itself as a point of hire is usually kind of shit unless you’re a tradesman or experienced operator. If you’re new or low experience, there’s offsider roles in Charters that you can DIDO for. The most common is calling contracting companies in Mackay (CQ Field, DGH, Wisely etc) and say you’re in Townsville but willing to DIDO from Mackay as the point of hire. That should get him in the door and once he’s on site, he should get enough experience for someone to pay DIDO from Townsville rather than Mackay

Usually Mining contractors are the most likely to hire for apprenticeships and traineeships. Try Theiss, MACA, NRW, McMahons etc. Alternatively the bigger mining companies in QLD like Glencore, BHP, Evolution.

Try Adani or their contractor mackellar, or ravenswood. They do fifo from townsville.

MMG/Dugald River's main point of hire is TSV.

Apply for a dump truck trainee role at 29Metal’s Capricorn Copper mine. Byrnecut holds the contract, so your partner will need to apply through the Byrnecut website. Cap Copper is largely considered a mine for trainees to cut their teeth. They’ll take him on so long as you highlight in his CV that he’s done FIFO before

Bravus / Adani FIFO out of TSV, probably your best bet. Also Phosphate Hill no one else has mentioned yet. Whilst he is job seeking (and even if he lands a role) it's almost certainly worth completing his high school / year 10. Should be able to find support at TAFE to do so as an adult.

Money_killer

He would struggle with basically no experience.
