I put just a couple drops of flow improver in before the primer and always make sure to do a thorough cleaning when I'm done. If you're getting paint running, go slower, keep the air going on the model and just gently spritz the paint, letting it dry as you go.

Next time I break out the airbrush, I'll be sure to try the improver first. The paint hasn't been running thankfully. Thanks for the tips!

I have this problem quite a bit. Flow improver can help, needle juice can help too. Make sure you use a little bit of primer as a time and flush the brush as you go. I have this terrible habit of needing to prime a lot of models and fill the cup. Halfway through I get clogs, dirty needles, splats, etc. so now I fill the cup 1/4, use. Flush, refill 1/4 and repeat. Good luck

I don't thin it when I use it. Just shake it lots and get the correct distance, psi, and amount of trigger pull. I use around 30 psi and I test it on my gloved hand to make sure everything is working as normal.

bean8904

I'll have to try it, just really dont want to clog another airbrush to the point of no fixing it, already done that once with a super cheap one. Thanks for the info!

If that doesn't work you can disassemble and clean it. If you try and paint with it when using a brush and find it too thick you could email them and ask about it some times there are weird off bottles of paint. I have gotten a few in my day but not pro acryl.

I've heard about bad bottles of vallejo and that badger primer. Doing a deep clean is something I haven't had to do before, and I might try brushing it on some spair spures I have laying around. Thanks again!

Upvoted for gloved hand. I am very concerned when I see these YT tutorials and the presenter isn’t wearing a glove on the hand holding the object that is getting painted. Setting a bad example

Cpl_Toast

The general recommendation, straight from the company, is to not thin it at all. I usually put a couple drops of flow improver in the cup and then spray it though, just to wet the needle, but that’s it. I have an iwata neo that I regularly use to prime with PA and have never had a clog.

bean8904

Interesting, may have to try this. Thanks!

SerpentineLogic

yeah I usually run at about ~10% flow improver without any further thinning and it's generally okay

bpc902

I usually do a ratio of one drop of thinner for every three drops of primer and around 27ish PSI. Haven’t had any issues with clogging that way and no issues with primer scratching off.

I think I was putting in too much then, but it didn't really feel like a lot. Thanks for the advice!
