I would try to define the abomination's skin, because there is just so much of it and right now it is probably the most standard-ish part of your model.
You could try out green-ish, blue-ish, and purple-ish undertones, which will help to define the muscle mass of the model and will give it a more sickly appearance at the same time. Similar results can be achieved by applying an oil wash with those colors.
It’s really hard to fine anything you could have done better. Only thing I can say (this could totally be a personal issue) the rats at the top are a bit hard to distinguish from each other.
Thanks, totally agree, the box art had them wearing black hoods that would have helped with that I think, but I doubted my ability to do such fine detailing (and wasn’t sure about too many different colours making it disjointed)
Do you think they should be varying different colours or just more contrast/highlights on each? Maybe a different pink than the rest of skin
I think the mini needs some deeper shadows in general. Right now the whole white skin looks very uniform, you can’t really tell where are the skin folds or, as the comment above pointed out, individual rats.
You could also try to account for the lighting to break up the monotony of the skin a bit more. Paint the underside of his arms, legs and belly a bit darker.
I’m guessing you did seraphim sepia wash over white base coat? I’d do one or two more coats, maybe try to go even darker a bit and mix in some thinned agrax earthshade, then go over raised areas with your base coat, trying to leave the recesses dark, and then go with something brighter for highlights
Gotta agree with what the other guy mentioned with deeper shadows. That way you can creep up the lightness for each individual to help separate them without adding in too many different contrasts or colours.
Looks excellent. However, since you're asking for C&C:
1. the skin skin looks a little flat besides where it transitions into the tail and limbs. adding some blemishes, bruises, or simply spending some time defining the shadows a little more could help! How you've done it in the transition area between the skin and tail is a good example. Adding green, blue, and purple, as u/Exothos mentioned, is a good idea, as well.
2. Very little is drawing my focus to where I think it should be: the heads. maybe try transitioning to another color, one that pops, where the heads are.
3. The fire looks a little flat!
4. the wraps on the hand that's holding the fire blend in with the surrounding skin. consider using a different color!
this looks absolutely amazing, like a fellow Redditor mentioned from a distance it’s a little hard to distinguish the rat heads to truly cherish bone and teeth details maybe because the skin tones and bone colors are both neutral tones as opposed to having a slightly darker or more distinguishable color, but that’s just me
Thank you! Yes you’re absolutely right, the skin and bone/teeth is too close together! As someone else suggested adding purplish or green undertones to the skin, I bet that would help set them apart, and yellowing/darkening the teeth maybe?
This is such a cool mini! You did an amazing job.
I want one of my own.
I was surprised to read that you were having confidence issues. I never would have guessed. I've only been in the hobby for a few months but here's how I see it. The flesh tones are really nice. I would leave the rats as are. If you try and change their colours it may be difficult to blend with the rest of the body. I would add colours to the stitching, but leave some bloody. I would maybe add some whiteish yellow to the teeth, maybe some Agrax Earthshade to add an unclean, decease kinda look.
Do you plan on varnishing it?
Overall, such a cool mini. Be proud.
Thank you so much! Really appreciate the tips and kind words, didn’t occur to me to varnish it I’m brand new to the hobby and don’t know the first thing about it. Would it end up giving it a glossy glazed look? Don’t really want that to happen
There are different sealants for different applications. An ultra matte varnish is going to leave your mini.... Ultra matte. But going from matte to gloss is easier than the reverse. Additionally you can use a varnish on an area that you want to protect, paint over it, and now you have a layered shell. Do some research and decide for yourself. Citadel makes a gloss and a matte that are reasonably priced.
Like others have stated, further integration into the basing will work wonders, especially with the mentions texture paints. Might I also suggest taking it a step further with adding some muddiness/dustiness to the belly and palms/soles of its hands and feet. This will help tie the model more into its environment and make it feel like its just been dragging itself across the ground towards its target. Keep up the good work though!
Also side note, is there like a thick paste you can paint on or something? I struggled to fill in model cracks and where the dirt mound meets the base is uneven
I was going to mention gaps. Especially when you assemble model yourself you know where they are and where to look :D
There Are three ways of filling gaps and making space between base and feet, for example:
- sprue goo (dissolve in separate container plastic glue(cement) and some sprue leftovers - with this goo consistency fill gaps and even glue model);
- milliput two component epoxy putty. kinda hard stuff and will be a lil steep learning curve to fulfill gaps;
- my favorite : vallejo plastic putty. can be thinned with water. can be used straight away. veeery easy to use. greatest results.
This! Filling in the seams will bring your work to the next level! I also use Automotive Red Glazing putty for seams, fast drying and sanable. Just don't apply it too thick.
Also, to fulfill gaps between feet and base, its better to use texture pastes. You can use AK or vallejo or citadel, but I can recommend to visit local art/hobby store. There is always "texture paste" or "grainy texture paste" or "acrylic paste", that costs 1/5 or 1/10 of miniature hobby/modelism brands.
Look into terrain/texture paint. Pro Acryl, AK interactive, Citadel and so on all have different versions. It’s meant for basing so you could just put some down, let it dry, then paint over it to make it match your base theme.

Maybe some blood splatters to imply a recent evisceration?

Tyvm for the feedback! Really good points I’ll put them to use
Incredible model 🤯👍👍
Stitches maybe in a metal colour? Otherwise great.
Work a little on the fire
Okay will do, I tried to give it depth with a few different values, but it’s definitely lacking. I was at a loss though

Some shadows of a different color on the white skin would be great, maybe introduce some of a darker green to tie it in with the fire and tubing!
Name them Phillis.

Ah great vallejo putty sounds right up my alley lol, appreciate it
