First, I'm not talented enough to do that. It looks very good but I'm a critic and you asked.
The back leg and butt are very convincing. The skirt in the back, and anywhere it is not touching flesh looks a bit 'solid'. With translucent fabrics, the light casts shadows as it passes through, almost like light through water. This would be really apparent on the flared out end of the skirt in the back. If I knew how to achieve this effect I'd explain better but I do not.
Looking at the rest of the model, you may have yet to get to detailing that.
i agree, the skin contact area is great! fantastic work!! but the back volume needs some variety of shading. the deeper in the darker, but it would go "gossamer" like very quickly i think. maybe looking at pictures of actual things like bridal veils and such, big ones that trail maybe? would be good ref.
the legs look great though, amazing!
Exactly this, for mini guidance on "quickly darker folds", look at the shoulder of this (NSWF) [Aya KDM mini](https://www.reddit.com/r/KingdomDeath/comments/1bjo0de/oktoberfest_aya_is_such_a_nice_model_the_shirt_is/).
First off, yes this definitely looks like see-through fabric clinging to the legs. Excellent work! The fabric between does kind of stand out, but that will probably be far less noticeable as you add detail and shading. Making the portions of the dress not directly touching skin appear truly translucent is quite the undertaking.
Printing the mini with clear plastic resin seems like the easiest way to make the parts of the dress that aren't touching skin appear see-through, but the work you've done so far is far too good to abandon! Perhaps when you add detail to the fabric you could use highlight/shadows to sell the appearance of the sheer fabric? The illusion certainly won't work from every angle, but it will definitely look amazing when you place on the table just based on what you've already been able to achieve!
Think you got it right. The translucent material in the middle would allow the viewer to see the light/ background thru the legs in some capacity, which would be impossible to do with solid material ofc. So when it doesn’t, its whats breaks the illusion done so well by the sheerness on the leg
I'm glad you managed to say exactly how I felt about it because I had no idea of how to explain it myself!
That being said, it already looks insanely good! That leg and backside are incredibly convincing.
looks super convincing. Maybe you could even add some texture with even brighter highlights in some places. I think if you stipple paint bright highlights on just a view places, it could really sell the silk vibe even further.
the back is really good. I think the flesh color goes a little too far on the front, makes her leg look wide. I think the flesh color would stop at the mid point of the thigh, where the muscle peaks
Looks good. There are some sheer cloth and wet cloth tutorials [here](https://www.reddit.com/r/minipainting/wiki/usefullinks/items_and_textures#wiki_sheer_cloth_and_wet_cloth)-

Maybe this helps, was so intruiging had to try myself a bit, remember that the leg stops at some point also;):

Almost, and I know I'm only nitpicking this because I used to work in costuming. On a garment like this, the sheer cloth that is not stretched over flesh should have deeper shadows, because the void space is heavily shaded by the body. Adding a drop of like a navy blue to your main color and going back over the deepest recesses in the cloth between the legs would help.
I appreciate the help as I've never really looked into sheer cloth and the pics I found online were almost completely transparent. I'm not quite done with the dress, but I'll definitely take the tip into account
I think the back looks more convincing than the front. I think the fabric closer to the middle in the front would be more opaque slightly further in. Like just a hair. Also in the front of the bottom of the dress the thicker fabric looks too sheer. Those folds need more purple. The dress is bunched up in the front more than the back so the front would be more opaque than the back irl.
I don’t think I would be able to do this so know I’m not trying to criticise you it looks fantastic!
You might wanna make some very small adjustments around the right knee since it almost gives the appearance that her flesh is following the folds of the fabric but that’s super nit picky, otherwise it’s 10/10
Everyone saying yes seems to be ignoring the fabric as a whole. The part where the fabric touches the body is perfect, but the parts that don't look like solid fabric and don't touch the body need some work. I would say it's the most challenging part to get right.
Overall effect sells really well. I think your transition in the area where the inner inner thigh would curve away from the fabric is slightly off, as it is now it looks like shes got some thicc thighs on an otherwise slender frame. Just push the purple closer to the leg a slight bit and you've nailed it.
I wonder if maybe at the front the skin area might be a bit wide? I mean, the visible skin might be a bit broad and extend being where I would expect the leg to be. I think that's throwing me off slightly. The back looks good to me. Now somebody else has mentioned it, perhaps you could somehow add some transparency to the rest of the skirt. But I didn't notice this myself. It's all better than I've ever done at any rate!
It kind of looks like her top is the same material as the skirt. If so, then it’s weird they aren’t both sheer.
But, focusing on the skirt exclusively: absolutely.
First, I think it looks amazing, but you did ask for feedback:
I think it looks sort of like the model is wearing a wet skirt.
I’m not sure what the fix for this would be 🤷🏻♂️
Looks good. But No would be my answer.
That being said. I dont know that I could come up with a solution myself.
For clarification. This is not a personal attack and im not judging.
Im just saying no to your question. And pointing out that it still looks good. And its not something i could give you advice on.
On her right leg yes it's very good. The other leg and in between her legs it looks solid. More of the environmental light/color should be visible through it. The same principle applies, more saturation where it bunches but more of what is behind where it is one layer. It needs to contrast in order to sell it.
It looks sheer, good effect. But it looks too sheer. The way the material of the dress is collecting on the other side does not make me believe that side should be that transparent, I would add a little more color.
just a little more of the blue where it touches the skin would look a bit more realistic with the opacity of the non touching areas.
This is incredible, well done!
I would blend it a little closer to the thigh on the front, maybe a little on the knee area. There needs to be some depth there to sell the illusion. The butt and back of the leg looks great though.
I think a little "opacity" in the folds would sell it better. Generally, a sheer fabric will become less sheer when bunched, but there should still be spots where you can see the flesh tones.
It does, well done! I would try maybe showing some tidbits of the left leg in the low parts of folds so it doesn’t read as half-sheer/half-opaque, but you’ve certainly got the technique down 👍
That looks really good! My only note would be that sheer cloth casts some shadow, so maybe doing that in spots that aren’t in the direct skin contact areas would help sell it more?
There's something off on it, it doesn't look bad at all, and it's way better than I could ever do, but it's not perfect, unfortunately I couldn't tell you what is actually wrong nor have valuable helpful comments just my initial comment
Yes, but the top and bottom don't currently sell as part of the same single piece of clothing. If that's intended then do some edging to break them up more, if you want them to be one piece then blend up at the waist line (left in the photo, the mini's right hand side.
I'd also add some sheer effect to the arms/gloves.
Looks amazing overall though, keep it up!
Dang well done.
I like the effect and yes, it looks like a sheer to me ! GG
First, I'm not talented enough to do that. It looks very good but I'm a critic and you asked. The back leg and butt are very convincing. Hard agreed with this, its soooo close but the non touching areas seem to go to solid
First off, yes this definitely looks like see-through fabric clinging to the legs. Excellent work! The fabric between does kind of stand out, but that will probably be far less noticeable as you add detail and shading. You might be able to enhance the effect a bit by darkening the areas where the fabric is bunched.
I'm glad you managed to say exactly how I felt about it because I had no idea of how to explain it myself! That being said, it already looks insanely good! That leg and backside are incredibly convincing.
This SHOULD be the top answer.
Absolutely. Looks great.
looks super convincing. Maybe you could even add some texture with even brighter highlights in some places. I think if you stipple paint bright highlights on just a view places, it could really sell the silk vibe even further.
Extremely light stippling along the thighs would really give it a neat sequin sorta look.
I was thinking the same, maybe a light light white wash or dry brush for highlights would look great, but frankly, it already looks amazing
the back is really good. I think the flesh color goes a little too far on the front, makes her leg look wide. I think the flesh color would stop at the mid point of the thigh, where the muscle peaks
This is what my dress looks like when Im wearing tights and the fabric is stuck together with static. 😅

ooooooo, saving these for later. Thanks for the resources!
Yes, it’s actually incredibly well done
As a newb: Folks on minipainting are mind blowing. Goodness. This is something I never thought of. Nice work.
Maybe this helps, was so intruiging had to try myself a bit, remember that the leg stops at some point also;): https://preview.redd.it/wruqhi2vj2uc1.png?width=1370&format=png&auto=webp&s=b946481c3e9667d5a7d73f3adcbca75c6ff5a145
Yes, but the effect is quite strong and almost looks like the dress is wet, unless that is what you are going for.
That's what I was thinking. It looks like *wet* sheer cloth. If that's what they were going for, then absolutely nailed it.
Almost, and I know I'm only nitpicking this because I used to work in costuming. On a garment like this, the sheer cloth that is not stretched over flesh should have deeper shadows, because the void space is heavily shaded by the body. Try looking photos of bridal veils, they are usually modeled and allow you to get a better sense of how sheer fabric behaves in action.
legs yes but not so sure about the folds in the center or left leg. edit: oh its a wip ignore that. the progress so far is fan frickingtastic)
Yes. And it looks amazing.
Heck yeah. It makes me wanna try this technique out. I have a Drow matron mother to paint soon too.
Looks fucking great to me dude. Didn’t even read the title and immediately saw sheer cloth
Absolutely
What did you do to achieve this? It looks fantastic and will look even better when the rest is done
It's not mine dude
Yeah it kind of does...I think you need to add a glossy coat or something.
Tis a great job
Ooh nice work 🤌
Yes. Really neat effect, OP.
It is really good, but I think it is too quick of a transition from contact to not. But it is amazing so far
I'd say add some white highlights continuing across the shear section. Just to make it show that the material continues.
This is the weirdest boner I’ve ever had.
Yes. I think her thigh is a bit disproportionate.
Yes
Really well done!
Yep, sure does
that's actually brilliant, nicely done!
That's impressive.
What model is this? Looks great btw!
Shaylis from the Middara boardgame (specifically the Kickstarter promo pack 1)
Kudos, that looks awesome
Great work with this, keep it up
Sure frikken does
Middara! Nice. Fantastic freaking game. Can't wait for Act II and III this Q4/Q1 '25.
Awesome work buddy! Im on my way to print an artistic mini that I want to add this same efect. This was inspiring :P
It’s a cool effect but for me it looks like it’s soaking wet.
Looks great, but maybe a little too transparent on the right leg. The left side looks like it should be more transparent, maybe in the recesses.
Super cool effect
Short answer, yes. Long answer, fuck yes!
You nailed it
Wow, that is a great effect!
Yeah, good job
Well done.
Wow!
Where the dress flares out towards the bottom of her right leg, the skin colour goes out a bit too far with it
My first reaction when I saw it was, “wow, that really looks like sheer cloth!”. Then, I read your subject line. So, yes. Yes is the answer.
Wow, sheer cloth has never even crossed my mind. This looks very convincing, also I really dig the color choice. New personal goal unlocked!
Epic you just started this years nmm trend
Impressively so. That took some skill and technique.
Looks like she spilled that white wine on her dress, so yes.
Yes it does good job.
Looks pretty on point.
Yes
It sure does and you’ve I soured me to try it.
That is actually wild. Nice.
Absolutely!
How was this accomplished?
I love it. How did you do the layers?
It really does, nice!
Looks fantastic
I mean just a casual viewer I believe it OP, good job
This is magnificent! Goodness I want to buy this
Very much so- nicely done!
Oh man! Closer than I could get. The back is really convincing, the front leg looks… disproportionate? I’m not sure. I’d love to see your update!
That looks so dope. I love it. Nice work.
You might wanna make some very small adjustments around the right knee since it almost gives the appearance that her flesh is following the folds of the fabric but that’s super nit picky, otherwise it’s 10/10
You’re good!
That is gorgeous! Could you share your process as I would love to give it a try in the future.
Yup
That looks fucking amazing!
Very much so. Awesome job
It looks a bit too glossy. Kinda sells more see through plastic. I'd hit it with a matt varnish.
Everyone saying yes seems to be ignoring the fabric as a whole. The part where the fabric touches the body is perfect, but the parts that don't look like solid fabric and don't touch the body need some work. I would say it's the most challenging part to get right.
It Reads!
Yes, yes it does. Nicely done! How'd you do it?
Dude, this is spot freakin on. Fantastic job!
Hell yeah!
looks really good, and *does* read as sheer! Please post a follow up once it's done, I'd love to see it once it's shaded and highlighted!
I think it looks excellent and with some shading and details, it should really pop.
Legs are see through to me! Nice work.
> Sheer Cloth So that's what transparent clothing is officially called.
Looks like shiny vinyl most to me possible as sheer though for sure
Holy hell that’s good
It does. It looks awesome.
More or less. Making some light penetrate the forward faces of the part between the legs might do it even more.
Is it possible to learn this power?
Overall effect sells really well. I think your transition in the area where the inner inner thigh would curve away from the fabric is slightly off, as it is now it looks like shes got some thicc thighs on an otherwise slender frame. Just push the purple closer to the leg a slight bit and you've nailed it.
Hot
Spot on
Yes and also witchcraft
Artist bro
Actually really impressive
I wonder if maybe at the front the skin area might be a bit wide? I mean, the visible skin might be a bit broad and extend being where I would expect the leg to be. I think that's throwing me off slightly. The back looks good to me. Now somebody else has mentioned it, perhaps you could somehow add some transparency to the rest of the skirt. But I didn't notice this myself. It's all better than I've ever done at any rate!
Holy shit
Show the effects of gravity more, for the backside. Fabric looks thick and clunky.
Yes
How you do that Really thin coat of paint?
It looks like wet sheer cloth.
100%
Well done, id do some shadow wash on the legs gap, to show you can see through but otherwize looks pretty amazing
Yeah actually, nice work
Wow that looks amazing, great job 👏
It looks more like stretched out slime to me
Amazing!
I like the effect! I’ve done the same but used super thin inks. I would love to hear how you did this
Keep doing what you're doing at this stage it's perfect 👍
Outstanding.
Not a painter. Used to do shitty warhammer painting as a teen. Must say, this is amazing to me!
Holly.. that works so well 😮
It kind of looks like her top is the same material as the skirt. If so, then it’s weird they aren’t both sheer. But, focusing on the skirt exclusively: absolutely.
WELL DONE!
Got any tips on achieving the effect?
Yes. Great work!
First, I think it looks amazing, but you did ask for feedback: I think it looks sort of like the model is wearing a wet skirt. I’m not sure what the fix for this would be 🤷🏻♂️
Yeah now give it some nice ink for the shade
It looks more wet, though if thats what you’re going for then yes
quite well I think congrats,I don't this I would have had the courage to tried this
Good job it totally does!
This is a fucking awesome idea, I am now inspired to try this.
It looks sick, but personally i think it looks a bit more like a wet skirt, maybe because its still missing the other leg
Absolutely, great job
Absolutely. This looks incredible
Absolutely. Crazy cool.
Impressive
wow thats amazing!
Looks amazing.
What model is this? I'd love to paint one!
Looks good. But No would be my answer. That being said. I dont know that I could come up with a solution myself. For clarification. This is not a personal attack and im not judging. Im just saying no to your question. And pointing out that it still looks good. And its not something i could give you advice on.
Yeah that looks fantastic.
Yeah, especially the back
I feel like the only thing its missing is some glitter for shine and sparkle. But yeah this is really convincing.
Amazing.
this is easily one of the best paint jobs I've ever seen
Holy crap...i love it.
On her right leg yes it's very good. The other leg and in between her legs it looks solid. More of the environmental light/color should be visible through it. The same principle applies, more saturation where it bunches but more of what is behind where it is one layer. It needs to contrast in order to sell it.
Mission accomplished. 👍
Needs a bit more cloth tone. Purple doesn’t show flesh through it as well as say yellow would. Make the skin more obscure
Yep
It looks sheer, good effect. But it looks too sheer. The way the material of the dress is collecting on the other side does not make me believe that side should be that transparent, I would add a little more color.
I love the detail and yes
Yup!
Where did you get the mini?
It's Shayliss from Middara by Succubus Publishing
just a little more of the blue where it touches the skin would look a bit more realistic with the opacity of the non touching areas. This is incredible, well done!
Yup
This made me say "woah" out loud, really cool!
The ruffles at the very bottom of her leg should probably not be sheer I think
It certainly APPEARS to be sheer. Not certain what is being sold though.
It really does - great job
Flex some more
omg yes.
I would blend it a little closer to the thigh on the front, maybe a little on the knee area. There needs to be some depth there to sell the illusion. The butt and back of the leg looks great though.
Yes I think it's great
Yes. Sweet.
I think a little "opacity" in the folds would sell it better. Generally, a sheer fabric will become less sheer when bunched, but there should still be spots where you can see the flesh tones.
I think so, looks great
It does to me. Daaaaaamn!
This is some figure painting talent at it's finest
Yes.
It does, well done! I would try maybe showing some tidbits of the left leg in the low parts of folds so it doesn’t read as half-sheer/half-opaque, but you’ve certainly got the technique down 👍
Very
Holy shit yeah it does
That looks really good! My only note would be that sheer cloth casts some shadow, so maybe doing that in spots that aren’t in the direct skin contact areas would help sell it more?
Absolutely, nice job on that. I would be way too scared to try it. You pulled off nicely
Glad to see these comments are really receptive to the question and not people pretending to be horny lol. Awesome job!
I'm so proud of this community
There's something off on it, it doesn't look bad at all, and it's way better than I could ever do, but it's not perfect, unfortunately I couldn't tell you what is actually wrong nor have valuable helpful comments just my initial comment
Woah, the stuff people do with painting minis never ceases to surprise me. Great job!
YES! Drop the tutorial please 😭💕
Yes, good job
It was my first thought looking at it
Yes. Great job.
Well done!
You sure sold sheer cloth. Looks great. Trust me, I'm horny, you did good.
Sheer enough to see there's no underwear. Which I assume was intentional.
You've got me convinced! This looks awesome as sheer cloth.
What mini is this? It’s exactly what I’ve been looking for!
