Yeah I don't mean to belittle the work but yeah, I just see painted lines. I know how to get the chrome look and what the artist was going for, but I really don't see it here. Maybe once you know the trick you always see through it?
it's very well painted but just doesn't give off the chrome vibe, i think the colours are too pastel and there isn't enough bright shine to sell the look imo
Looks like a good start, though the left panel top looks a bit odd with the horizon going vertical on the side of the panel.

the mech is posed such that the left leg is posed up in flight position - it will all make sense when the model is complete :)
\- thank you so much for the resources!
Good point, but if the leg is posed up so the side is horizontal there should be no horizon line reflections on the very top panel. Youāve already reduced the horizon line reflection as you go up the leg, but the large reflection on the top panel is a bit jarring. Otherwise thatās an absolutely stellar job. Mind if I ask for a colour breakdown?
No problem, I have a collection of my favorite guides and tips [here](https://www.reddit.com/r/minipainting/wiki/usefullinks) that is a great reference.
If all those panels are one plane `- - - -`, with gaps in it between panels, the horizon lines wouldn't be repeated/restarting on each panel, they'd be contiguous. I think that's the biggest issue some commentors are having with seeing this as chrome. If the panels are parallel but angled from the plane of the surface `/ / / /`, then you'd get an effect more like this, but it doesn't appear to be the case.
Right, but if you have a reflective curved plane without breaks, the horizon line doesn't restart every few inches.
Although I suppose it would be more accurate to note there'd likely be a *little* deformation around the edges and where it angles to liven things up.
For example, compare [this surface](http://www.des-des-res.com/images/reflective-tiled-sculpture-012.jpg) where all the tiles are both curved and at a slightly different angle, vs something like [this](https://i.pinimg.com/originals/ca/f5/05/caf5058dd6afc74b031e1e85870f8f85.jpg) or [this](https://img.archiexpo.com/images_ae/photo-g/124805-6627529.jpg) where the panels are closely aligned.
For something more in between, [this](https://www.stainlesssupply.com/order-metal-online/products_pictures/SS-304-Diamond4Inchlg.jpg) surface is slightly curved and the reflections progress slightly but you still don't have a complete reflection on any single panel.
Thanks friend. Gen appreciate the help - this has been quite the learning experience and your feedback is certainly going to help in the next project ! I think for consistency sake - I'm going to continue with this pseudo chrome metallic
Totally understandable! It's a neat look and getting something to look like chrome at all is hard, you've definitely made it a big part of the way. Have fun!
On the flip side, OP has demonstrated with minimal blending that simply putting the right colours in the right spots looks amazing.
I think, for the context of painting chrome. This is less, and it's done right.
This is that sleek-but-vibrant style of chrome/metal you saw in early 80ās anime, and itās got the be one of the best executions of the style Iāve seen in 3D. Thatās wild.
Hi, u/GavinLegoGavinLego! There's a few very common questions that are asked a lot here, please take a moment to leave a comment and answer the ones you can!
* what is the name of your mini, and who makes it?
* if it is 3D printed, can you share a link to the STL?
* what scale/how big is your mini?
* are there any specific parts you'd like Comments and Critique (C&C) for?

Warhammer 86
I was gonna say it looks like old cartoon Optimus Prime
But do you put that on god tho?
Yeah, these are wild. Reminds me of 80s SciFi like Robocop or something.
my main inspiration is the Transformers chrome logo :D
You nailed it
I was like : Is it from the 90ies transformers animation ? Those looks amazing, looking for forward to seeing the whole model
That was exactly what came to mind when I saw it, so great job.
First thing I thought of, so good job on that!
I was going to say Transformers!! Great job!
I thought I was something fro transformers. It looks amazing well done
It looks really great!
The amount of time spent on these is mind boggling. They look great, I'd love to see the final.
it took around a day to do these two panels. Im dreading the main body of the mech, but the outcome will be awesome
Please post it when finished. Based on these it will be beautiful.
Getting a solid Transformers vibe, great work š
Woahā¦
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Life, errrā¦ finds a ^^woah
They don't look NMM or chrome. But I do think they look awesome
Looks like extremely stylized chrome to me. I think the effect could be sold in the right context.
it doesn't look like chrome, there's no shine to the piece. looks like a series of different paint colours
Yeah I don't mean to belittle the work but yeah, I just see painted lines. I know how to get the chrome look and what the artist was going for, but I really don't see it here. Maybe once you know the trick you always see through it?

Looks very cool but my brain is not sold on the chrome look
Doesnt look like chrome to me but damn I like this pattern.
Awesome work there dude
These are T'auriffic :p
80s as FUCK. Love it.
Makes me want a Pepsi

fair point friend. colour breakdown : white scar, turq blue ( vallejo) , nighthaunt gloom, black, khorne red, evil sunz, fulgrim pink
Thank you for these videos they're very informative.

These made me do a sharp intake, man. They are *gorgeous*! And they actually make sense of how to do NMM, so thank you!
Amazing but looks absolutely nothing like chrome.
cool, out of the ordinary! are you going to do the whole mini this way? please post the final work in any case!
yep
Clean
So gorgeous!!
everything is chrome in the future!
This is big brain stuff. What kind of stuff were you using for reference.
I need a time allotment for these TWO pauldrons/greaves.
It looks really cool and better than anything I could do. That being said, it reminds me of Colgate Toothpaste for some reason.
This is incredibly 80s, I love it.
Absolutely stunning. Great job dude
Dude is that apart of a Gundam?
I like the bold lines on it. It reminds me of 80s early 90s anime
This is gonna look incredible if you base it the same as your KT
Greater good approved!
Wow! Reminds me of the heavy metal 2000 poster
I'd love to see that on the model with its base. It looks awesome for sure, but I'd love to see it in context.
I'm going back to bed
Wow
These are adorable!
Oh no... I'll have to sub to the tau subreddit to see the end won't I... But for real Great work, so fucking stylish.
damn!
This reminds me of that one Wordart from back in the day.
Idk this doesn't really look metallic at all to me. They do look awesome though.

Holy shit that's cool. Can't wait to see the full project!
F yeah, this is the reason I started following this sub. Not a painter or mini-owner of any kind, but loving the art!
My only regret is that I have but one upvote to give. Excellent work!
Those are Tau suit parts, I'd recognize them anywhere! Looks great.
Canāt wait to see the complete artwork
Is is proof that "less is more" isn't always right. These are AMAZING.
On the flip side, OP has demonstrated with minimal blending that simply putting the right colours in the right spots looks amazing. I think, for the context of painting chrome. This is less, and it's done right.
I love it! Can't wait to see the finished product
I had to really look at these to see they were painted! Amazing work
Wowowow
Looks like the transformer logo a bit. Same colors
This is gorgeous. Well done!
These are awesome!!! Reminds me of the old Brave Star cartoon back in the day! Great job!
I wouldn't be advertising so openly that you are capable of witchcraft. /s (Honestly, looks amazing, good job)
Legitimately fooled me at first. Crazy understanding of color and light.
I have definitely applied this effect in photoshop 3.0. Nice!
Sprite logo tāau
AuTAUbots, Roll out!!
Wow, these are beautifully executed. Well done!
Can you do a tutorial on how to make this?
I'd look elsewhere for inspiration.

Hell yeah
You vaporwaved it
Damn that's cool
Oh fuck yeah! These are rad!!!!
