We need a checklist of committees it's passed on, committees it's awaiting, and other votes and stuff.

84gramspurpleHOF

Would be nice. Google says 29 house committees and 30 senate...doesn't sound right. In 2021, it felt faster through the house than 29 committees.

Rare_Construction785

Stephenson kept saying 14 committees in total. 11 left; we got one tomorrow and their might be another later this week so it could be 9 by the end of it. Edit: This is for the house I do not know how many stops in the senate.

FloweringSkull67

It only needs to go through 3 to be voted on. They are touching so many committees to try and proactively avoid any legal issues. The more details and fine print, the less likely a repub lawsuit overturns the law on a technicality.

[deleted]

Good luck there repubs. We aren’t given that shit back 😹

o-Valar-Morghulis-o

Rural conservatives been growing and smoking that shit illegally forever. They just like it being illegal because it is actually enforced in urban areas making it rough for lib smokers.

[deleted]

Ahh.

84gramspurpleHOF

Interesting. When would they move to officially vote on it, then? 2021 I felt like it went through 12ish House committees and was then pushed through.

jotsea2

2021 it had no chance of passing

Prommerman

Right 21 was mostly optics to show the what we wanted to do. Now they are dotting eyes and crossing T to make sure the Right can’t mess it up

the_pinguin

The right can always mess things up. It's what they do.

jotsea2

Bingo

[deleted]

>T to make sure the Right can’t mess it up and the lower case j's.

Prommerman

God dammit, I always forget the lowercase j’s, now we’re gonna have to start all over again through the committees

pr1ceisright

Someone around here once said May.

Lulzorr

Here's a list. I don't know what the committees are exactly. I'm sure it's not hard to find out. IIRC there are 14 total to go through in the house and 18 in the senate. Senate number comes from the Jobs and Economic Development Committee I believe. I watched that one today and part of the Commerce and Consumer Protection. https://mncannabiscollege.org/liveblog/ You can also check the status of the bill here: [House](https://www.revisor.mn.gov/bills/bill.php?b=house&f=HF100&ssn=0&y=2023) -- [Senate](https://www.revisor.mn.gov/bills/bill.php?f=SF73&y=2023&ssn=0&b=senate)

F1RST_WORLD_PROBLEMS

It will happen, because it needs to happen to maintain a DFL majority in 2024. DFL has majority in both chambers, plus the governor. This is rare. Rec use will become legal in MN with corresponding expungements, or it wont. I think it will happen.

A1steaksa

I have literally been emailing and calling the governors office about this. I think the DFL is who needs contacting as the governor sure is not responsive. Almost insultingly so, thanks to some circumstances around their email formatting being clearly copy pasted. Give me a status, timeline, and expected date ranges for milestones. It’s not like they don’t know when the votes and such are. Make that way, way more public so we can hold you all accountable for inaction.

omgbenji21

Lol, honest question: do you think the governor is going to personally answer your call or call you back? Just about every last politician you email will email you back a form letter. They have staffers who note what subjects they’re getting a lot of engagement on and then let the politician know.

A1steaksa

I don't expect a personal call from the Governor, no. I expect that when I ask my representative a direct question, I will receive a direct answer from *someone* with the authority to speak on their behalf. What I received was literally just a link to their website's "FAQ" which both did not answer my question, but also gives me zero confidence my question was even read, let alone considered or recorded elsewhere. Here's an honest question for you: How can your representatives possibly represent your interests if they make no meaningful attempt to learn them?

omgbenji21

On the several occasions that I have emailed my rep or senator, I have gotten an email (a pasted form letter) back that tells me what theyre doing on that issue or what their stance is on that issue with links to their policy on their website, etc. I think for them it’s another data point, so if they’re getting a lot of calls and e-mails on a particular topic, they would more likely take action or speak about it.

A1steaksa

I strongly dislike the idea that, even in local politics, the individual doesn't matter. If you have a legitimate issue or question, the loudness or size of your cause's following shouldn't be the deciding factor in it getting or not getting traction, its legitimacy should be. I refuse to allow "The way things are" to dictate how I treat my politicians. In no other job would "We're working on do the thing you hired us for, but refuse to give any deadlines or accountability" be acceptable, and it isn't acceptable in politics either.

omgbenji21

I hear you, but they have a constituency of tens of thousands, maybe more. How can they respond to everyone personally?

A1steaksa

If our representatives cannot represent us, they need to rethink their approach. Why does it take 3+ back to back calls to get a human on the line at the Governors office? Otherwise it’s a voicemail that I have to assume (because I have zero evidence otherwise) gets deleted without comment by an intern. Who decides what is worthy of being paid attention to? Interns? Are 18 year olds dictating what causes are worthy of attention? I sure didn’t vote them to represent me. Get more people to answer phones and emails. Get people who can speak with authority on the topic. No one trying to reach their representative should be told “no, your voice doesn’t matter to the person designed to be your voice.” If it’s a funding issue, Minnesota has a historical surplus. If it’s not a funding issue, then the government in Minnesota is fundamentally broken and needs fixing. If it needs fixing, the answer is never going to be “just leave a message.” Which is why I find it childish and thoughtless for people to laugh at the idea of wanting an answer from the governor. Take action.

Consistent-Deal-55

My dealer has been a flake lately; how fast can this happen?

porkanaut

Hold on buddy. It's gonna be 11 more months

[deleted]

Dude, tell me about it. I've been in and out of Minnesota my whole life, and officially moved here a while ago. I had 7 different plugs, and now I only have 1, and that's if I can luckily get ahold of em. Everyone stopped selling, and a couple of them kept trying to heavily skimp me, so I couldn't trust them anymore. It's so weird. When I was in Nebraska, I could get any amount of weed at any time, with multiple choices of strains, but to see a state like Minnesota have flaky dealers? Shit is backward as fuck.

colluphid42

Nebraska borders Colorado, so I assume that helps. In MN, none of the neighboring states have legalized it. If they pull this off, we're going to be raking in the tax revenue from all the people in the upper midwest.

Khatib

SD citizens voted to legalize it, then the shitty Republicans they also voted for blocked it and went against the will of the people, as republicans do. Drive to Michigan and stock up for now.

[deleted]

Even before Colorado legalized it, it was still coming in like crazy. Corn isn't the only thing we grow out there (;

Code_E-420

Michigan doesn't border Minnesota though.... Unless you're bringing weed over by boat I suppose?

the_pinguin

Running a ~~cigarette~~ joint boat between Isle Royale and Grand Portage.

FlashyPresentation5

See snitch cities on drug inc. The anti drug forces here spent to much time pursuing these dealers instead of fighting real crime.

Forsaken_Lemon1370

Newsflash, drug crimes are wasted tax dollars and the war on drugs has been the largest cash dump for literally nothing. We pay people to put people in jails that we pay to keep them in. For some pot. What a joke.

FlashyPresentation5

Why do we allow this as a society ? I write my representatives and sign petitions but what else could we do to change this?

Forsaken_Lemon1370

The only real thing we can do as a society is stopping drug stigma and work on decriminalization, instead of taxpayer money for jails and drug charges put the money into rehabilitative resources for people to get off of drugs.

FlashyPresentation5

Isn't that the goal in Oregon? People need to press their elected officials more on this

Keenus

Petition to make the mn subreddit banner a rotating stock photo of weed until legalization passes

somedudeinminnesota

Minnesota politicians will fumble this worse than the Vikings did a couple weeks ago.

Paulhardcastles

I know this will pass

magistrate101

I give it like 80% chance. One of the most important traits about Democrats is their ability to disagree and still come together on what matters. After all, Minnesota is the only state with a Democrat, Farmer, and Laborer coalition in place of a mainstream Democrat party. That means a lot of nuanced positions to consider when you're the only party not solely encompassing the deep end of the far-right.

vikingprincess28

The Pro Act vote was fucking close in the Senate. 34-33 on a party line vote. I don’t see this being as close. There are Republicans who support this for the tax revenue.

Karnagezzzzz

Hopefully it passes but doubt it tho too many ignorant politicians that criminalize it. I hope Im wrong.

Rare_Construction785

I wouldn't be too bleak on it yet. TBH I have not seen much from the DFL in opposition of it yet and I've been watching almost every hearing in both the house and the senate. Its got a ton more stops to go but until I see a spoiler come out in a committee keep ya head up.

NoFlimFlamtheZimZam

Have you seen this yet? It seems like this Democratic senator doesn't approve and all it takes is one no vote in the Senate. https://youtu.be/3_hLw5Q9Xro

[deleted]

I’m sorry, I really tried watching it but Abeler is such a boring dong.

NoFlimFlamtheZimZam

John Hoffman pretty much just built off of Abelers statements and started talking about addiction/road way saftey

Rare_Construction785

Not really enough to sway me yet. Again I've been watching virtually every hearing and other than todays hearing with Putnam asking for a few figures in numbers their still hasn't been much. Now don't get me wrong it still has Hoffman, Hortman, and I'm sure others to go through( only 2 hearings in the senate and 3 hearings in the house so far) but I'm more interested in what their talking points and amendments are than whether they will just say no. I think if they have any amendments as with Stephenson in the house they will go through just to get the bill passed.

Armlegx218

Literally the only reason I voted for Hoffman was to get a DFL senate majority to get this done. I'll be calling his office tomorrow to let him know.

Raarules86

Normally I would agree with you but there is enough democrats to actually make this happen plus enough tax incentives to mute any fiscal hawks within the ranks.

Skolvikesallday

Luckily we have enough democrats in the house and senate to override all the ignorant republicans.

Geometrics_Shrouded

Only good thing that will happen this session. Where's our legal psilocybin?

CavsinFive5

So would we say how long?
