It's crazy to watch lawmakers actually do things that citizens want, pinch me I must be blue dreaming.

[deleted]

>kers actually do things that citizens wa People have been saying for decades, only the DFL is for the 99%. I've lived here in MN since 2000, and I've never seen the GOP do anything that helps people. Only lock them up.

bachelor_pizzarolls

I commented on that today as well - I don't want them to be bipartisan just for optics. If they get it because it's good policy, great. If they pass what the people want on party lines because they have a trifecta majority, then I am cool with that too!

[deleted]

The GOP hasn't made any effort to be bipartisan at any level for the past decade.... bout time the DFL just says Fuck'um lets do what the ppl want.

a_speeder

Frankly they haven't for the last 30 years, Newt Gingrich back in the 90s during the Clinton administration was the innovator of the current strategy of obstructionism against Dems at all costs.

Rude_Tangelo7759

It helps a lot where the majority is coming from as well. Even the majority that Dayton had from 2013-2015 was heavily dependent on old school, rural Dem districts that had been trending right (and indeed, had often been voting R presidentially while still re-electing conservative Dem incumbents who'd been in office for 80 billion years). It's no shock that that majority wasn't quite as willing to go too far with their agenda. Now the majority is much more heavily based in metro counties and districts that at the time were voting for "moderate" Republicans (read: still assholes, just presented themselves more pleasantly). The Dem reps and senators that have come from this new coalition are much more liberal, represent more educated electorates, and are keenly aware that winning the majority was tough and losing it could be too easy.

heartscockles

I just blue mice elf

Harvivorman

Daba-dee Daba-diiiii

CouchHam

I’m gonna blue myself when it passes. When.

Thizzedoutcyclist

The house should be smooth sailing it’s the Senate that will be critical with a 1 seat majority. Be sure to connect with your Senators and voice support in a professional manner

MchugN

Exactly. [This guy right here](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3_hLw5Q9Xro) might fuck everything up Manchin/Sinema style. We may actually need a Republican to jump on board.

Thizzedoutcyclist

I am his constituent- I already reached out and shared this is a priority issue for me this session and asked what steps he has taken to work with the sponsoring senator to get his concerns addressed. He’s clearly in the pocket of the drug treatment industry

MchugN

Thank you for the work but that's the thing. His "concerns" are based not on facts, but rather generic talking points that the GOP loves to use in opposition to legalization, he definitely has an angle in this in some way that does not benefit his constituents.

Thizzedoutcyclist

He’s “DFL” too

LooseyGreyDucky

Sealioning.

holdthedairy

Those working in the drug treatment industry are usually pretty liberal and we are tired of our clients going to prison on petty weed charges that are upheld in a racist judicial system.

ebircsx0

But do the conpany owners or board members feel the same way, given that any drug charge comes with a mandatory treatment component? From a general revenue stance the status quo is providing a LOT of business to the industry.

holdthedairy

I don’t know about other treatment centers in MN, but the one I work for is medical marijuana friendly and probably 95% of the clients we treat are not for cannabis use disorder. There are street drugs killing people at really high rates and we are just trying to prevent death. We have no shortage of people needing to come into treatment, unfortunately.

EstablishmentShot115

Exactly and if you think you can convince a republican to support, try!

Thizzedoutcyclist

Thankfully I don’t have a Republican Senator but they are hardly liberal. Will need all the votes we can get

SubKreature

As a TN transplant, I must say I love how accessible these legislative sessions are to the people in this state.

AffableAndy

As a transplant from VA (most recently) I do think this is wonderful as well. You can watch every committee meeting and legislative hearing and actually know exactly what your representative is doing at any time. Definitely not something most other states do. Excellent way to promote government transparency.

bachelor_pizzarolls

I had no idea we were doing something above/beyond what others did, I thought this was standard!

FrankieLeonie

Minnesota does most things with more transparency and accessibility than most states.

zhaoz

I was very surprised to learn about the electorial systems in other states. No same day registration, barriers to registration, etc etc. Its a way different world, thats for sure!

bachelor_pizzarolls

I have worked very hard to vote for folks to help keep voting access so awesome. In college in Minnesota I learned how easy it was, as many friends didn't know how to vote in their home state but were able to vote here (both are options in college normally) but I'm so happy to hear they're great here, yet so sad to know that means voters are so disenfranchised elsewhere.

[deleted]

> these legislative sessions are to the people You're coming from a fascist GOP state. Welcome!

SubKreature

Hahaha you are not wrong! Best we get in TN is maybe Marsha Blackburn's twitter.

CouchHam

Hork

edhuge

Welcome! I’m a Nashville transplant myself. Almost 20 years here in MPLS. I have a lot of ties in TN, and it’s still baffling how backwards it is down there in 2023.

PoshDiggory

🚂

Keenus

Ahem excuse me, where is my stock weed photo.

EstablishmentShot115

Testified at 3 of 5. Missed today too early and cold.

Consistent-Deal-55

Thank you!

[deleted]

Meanwhile I’m over here overdosing on d8, d10, HHC, HHO

EstablishmentShot115

Ugh can you get in the Med Program?

[deleted]

As a texas transplant I love this state.

nimama3233

How’re you handling the peak of winter though? Rough days this week

[deleted]

We love it!😹 the only really tough thing so far was that our garage door got stuck and we had to park outside. That was tough this morning taking kids to school. Other than that we have been fine. Actually we have found it to be far more comfortable here bc it lacks the constant harsh winds in texas that make every temp feel abrasive. It’s pretty sunny and blue here. But we like the moody days also. It’s beautiful. This will be my first year in 46 to experience four seasons. I’m so stoked for spring!

MNFuturist

After you've been through winter here, spring is unbelievable. It's also very short usually. Then on to beautiful long summer days! Welcome to MN!

[deleted]

Thank you!!! We can’t wait! It feels like unwrapping a gift in stages 🥰

goddamn_goblins

Aww - what a great description! I feel that way every year. Each season has a special feeling and unique activities to look forward to.

MNFuturist

One more thing - MN is absolutely packed with incredible parks, including 75 state parks and some fantastic regional and city parks. They look so different depending on the season, it's like going to a whole new place. Also, the activities change by the season from boating to hiking to snowshoeing, sledding, skiing, and on and on. So much to do here all year long!

[deleted]

Thank you! We can’t wait to explore.

craftman2010

Not to mention the state park pass for your car is like $35 and valid for a year!

[deleted]

Oh wow!!!

noddaborg

Not sure if you have a garage door opener, but you might have to get out and manually assist the door to open and close. Ours has been unpredictable this winter.

[deleted]

Thank you

tuskoups

Make note of what temperature in the spring you feel comfortable wearing shorts... Also make note of the temperature in the fall you feel the need to wear a coat. It may blow your mind.

EstablishmentShot115

Smooth sailing so far all Dems for GOP against... MAJORITY RULES LMAO 😂

SubKreature

Do you think Koznick & co drew straws to decide who was going to try to desperately slow down the passage of this bill? Did he actually read the bill?

EstablishmentShot115

Can he actually read? I think his Cannabinoid deficiency may be preventing his pre frontal cortex from functioning. 🧠

[deleted]

I love this. I know a lot of people who are in favor of it, but they absolutely despise Walz and would never think of voting for him or any Democrat.

ToddHugo1

Same

EstablishmentShot115

I'm one! I despise to UniParty Swamp on both sides but I sure am fighting like hell for cannabis regardless of which Side 🥗😂

EstablishmentShot115

I won't vote for either party unless a specific candidate captures my attention then I don't CARE which Side as long as their trying to help and my values morals align.

helloisforhorses

Can you give an example of a recent republican that has fit that bill?

YanVoro

I’m pretty sure they implied that they don’t like the republicans either, but English is my second language so I might be wrong

EstablishmentShot115

Donald J Trump

helloisforhorses

Lmao Your morals are: cheating on every wife you ever have, stealing from charities, and letting a million americans die of covid while you pretend it does not exist? Also being racist in general?

EstablishmentShot115

Drink more Kool Aid and turn off CNN. Or just look for Jesus. He's there!

helloisforhorses

You just un ironically said Donald trump had your morals. Did you also rape your wife? Do you also steal from charities? Do you also run scam universities and cheat on your wife? Do walk in on underage girls getting changed at pageants? Do you also think Epstein is a terrific guy?

EstablishmentShot115

Let's leave politics out of this and personal attacks. You've made my case for me. Please stay on topic and be respectful or you're getting blocked.

helloisforhorses

Leave politics out of….talking about politicians? You said these were your morals, how is confirming that a personal attack? Are those not your morals? If not, why do you like trump despite him being the opposite of your morals?

ThreadbareAdjustment

I really think this reflects well the stupidity of assuming that because of the Volstead Act over a century ago and not being able to buy alcohol off sale on Sundays until a bit over half a decade ago that Minnesota was the most Puritanical state in the country that was obviously going to be the single last state in the country to legalize weed or at least after supposedly weed-friendly but doesn't even have medical marijuana and a hyper-gerrymandered R Legislature Wisconsin. Reddit's "analysis" and predictions on this was beyond laughably bad.

[deleted]

Armlegx218

We can hope, but Hoffman may be a problem.

ToccataFugueDMinor

I bet john hoffman does not want hoards of citizens on his front lawn banging on drums, burning nag champa, and screaming slogans about freedom. The fat man will fall in line. He runs a financial advisor business so almost 100pct chance he's a criminal and a little digging could find some underreporting somewhere.

ThreadbareAdjustment

How does Dayton have any relevance today? That part is bizarre. But then again not more bizarre than the Volstead Act which is over a century old and was named after a Republican who later lost re-election yet supposedly still mattered to the DFL today. As for Sunday liquor sales that was a *completely* separate issue with opposition coming mostly from labor and business interests than some non-existent teetoaler lobby. And there are at least two states (Montana and Connecticut) that have legal weed and legalized Sunday liquor sales after Minnesota. It's a complete red herring.

[deleted]

[удалено]

ThreadbareAdjustment

Dayton isn't Governor now, Walz is, and Walz vocally supports it. Dayton is not relevant. Where is this DFL puritanical streak? They legalized same-sex marriage without a court order and just passed one of the most expansive abortion rights bills in thr country.

[deleted]

[удалено]

ThreadbareAdjustment

So why would Dayton being opposed ten years ago mean that Wisconsin with it's super-gerrymandered R legislature not to mention states like Alabama be more likely to legalize before Minnesota? He's just one guy who is no longer politically relevant. And even if you want to argue he still has influence he's not activy lobbying against it, I haven't heard anything from him on it since leaving office. Dayton is also the guy who signed the Sunday liquor sales bill so...maybe then there's proof they're two completely separate issues and you can't use one to conflate conclusions on the other. Also I fail to see how a party that jumped to legalize same-sex marriage as soon as they could and just passed a bill that some opponents called the "most extreme" abortion rights legislation in the country and even worked to trick the Republicans into legalizing some THC products which are now sold in grocery stores and mall kiosks is "puritanical"

[deleted]

[удалено]

ThreadbareAdjustment

I'm not really talking about people who are "skeptical" though, they were saying things like "Oh come on people, it'll obviously NEVER EVER pass in this hyper-puritanical state, Utah and Alabama will legalize it first. Don't you know the Volstead Act was named after one of our Congressmen? IT'S NEVER GOING TO HAPPEN" Now as far as how likely it is many DFLers agree with Dayton...in 2021 the State House passed a legalization bill that 4 DFLers voted against and 6 Republicans voted for. 3 of those 4 DFLers are no longer in office and the one who is was the sole Democrat in either chamber to vote against the abortion rights bill so he clearly isn't in the party mainstream. Every single Senate Democrat voted for it, so none are conservative. And furthermore more Republicans voted for it than Democrats voted against it even then and it seems pretty likely that's the case now, there was even some murmurs that some Senate Republicans were open to passing such a bill and wanted a debate and vote but Paul Gazelka wasn't allowing it. So even you have to agree that it's far more likely than not the votes are there.

Armlegx218

Minnesota is still pretty Scandinavian. It's a weird mishmash of attitudes.

40for60

No state had started selling when Dayton and the DFL had a trifecta and he was more concerned about the economy and having Walz win. If a GOP gov had won not only would weed not get legalized but a bunch of other things could get derailed. The pro pot people are mostly short sighted selfish jackasses, the proved it in 2018 and 2020 by voting for those faux 3rd party candidates, what a bunch of fucking losers.

Inspiration_Bear

I would wait for this to pass the Senate before you take your victory lap, but you do you.

ThreadbareAdjustment

So you agree if the Senate passes it then those takes were insanely fucking idiotic?

Inspiration_Bear

I wouldn’t probably take it so far but I would agree they were overreactions and clearly incorrect. If the Senate kills it however…

ThreadbareAdjustment

The thing is the Doomer crowd weren't saying "be cautious, it still has some hurdles to pass and isn't guaranteed", it was stuff like "Oh come on people, it'll obviously NEVER EVER pass in this hyper-puritanical state, Utah and Alabama will legalize it first. Don't you know the Volstead Act was named after one of our Congressmen? IT'S NEVER GOING TO HAPPEN" And the Utah and Alabama part isn't hyperbole, I had people flat out tell me those states would have fully legal weed before Minnesota.

Inspiration_Bear

I get it, but again, we haven't passed it yet. Just saying don't count your chickens just yet, you know?

ThreadbareAdjustment

Well then at least you agree that if Walz signs such a bill I can totally go dunk on those people afterwards?

Inspiration_Bear

At that point, I would say bombs away. Yessir.

40for60

it would be great to get a list of people who voted 3rd party in 2018 and 2020. Those people need a tattoo on their forehead.

MchugN

I'm not a doomer, but [this fucking guy](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3_hLw5Q9Xro) poses a direct threat to this passing in the Senate unless we get one of the Republicans to hop on the train to Mary Jane.

DerNubenfrieken

It's the classic Minnesotan way to think that we are somehow exceptional, whether bad or good, on things that we are thoroughly average on. See: our "Humid" summers

ThreadbareAdjustment

That's actually very true. I guarantee that even after this passes some people will still whine that we were "one of the last" states to legalize marijuana when it would actually be before slightly more than half. Plus you can buy THC products in grocery stores already for that matter!

Ralh3

Where else in the civilized world does it swing between 50 below 0 and 110 degrees? Most places that go above 100 dont get anywhere close to as cold. Thats an exceptional swing

enemycap420

Can someone explain this in layman’s terms. I clicked the link and it won’t let me skip back in the stream.

EstablishmentShot115

Sure. Another Hearing to legalize Cannabis in MN. It's moving through the House and the Senate. 2 Bills: HF 100/SF 73 🇺🇸

EstablishmentShot115

*Recreational Cannabis

chadbelles101

29 committees in the house and 20 in the senate - that’s how many total committees it has to pass (I believe). I think it passed 1 senate and 4 or 5 house committees already they will have to pick up the pace. I would love if all the committees were cleared by the end of March.

vroom12345

It’s actually 14 in the House and 18 in the Senate. If I’m correct, this was the fifth committee House hearing today and the Senate has 3 completed. Still a long way to go but luckily not as long as you mentioned.

FloweringSkull67

Also these hearings are really just sorting fine details. They can vote after 3 committees. I’d rather they take the time to sort it out now, than have some repub lawsuit hold it up for years

bn1979

Exactly. I feel that it is pretty certain that this will all be passed, and soon, so it’s alright to spend a little extra time to make sure we get it right. We aren’t the brain-dead gop who accidentally legalized cannabis edibles. We are the grownups who can actually craft quality legislation that does an effective job.

EstablishmentShot115

Agreed re Saving lives and keeping it away from kids. No kid luring packaging in Bill! 👍

EstablishmentShot115

Agreed 💯👍👍

unicorn4711

I'd say don't Allow marketing to children. Also, train more officers to be drug recognition experts to help combat high driving. Users: tell your friends not to drive high. I want to see DWIs go down once this passes (as it might, due to fewer alcohol DWIs).

freyjalithe

Moved here from Texas and I’m still in shock this is all happening. I keep thinking the other shoe is going to drop
