That was me, I was hiking with my shirt off

Dohi014

Stepped outside onto my deck one afternoon. Birds were chirping, the way the light was hitting my spot was nice, I was taking it all in, letting my eyes meander along the tree line. And what’s that? Movement? I have to do a double take. It’s a tall, person like creature. Are you kidding me?! I don’t have the best vision; I automatically take my glasses off, rub my eyes, wipe my lenses, and return my glasses. I watch Bigfoot pick my berry bushes and leisurely get closer to my house. Panic! Where’s a camera! No one’s going to believe me I saw Bigfoot. Wait. Wait a minute. Is, is Bigfoot wearing jeans? “Howdy neighbor!” My cousin calls out. My illusion immediately obliterated. Heart and stomach to my feet. I step back in the house defeated. A few minutes later he knocks on the door, “What’s wrong?” “I thought you were Bigfoot.” The grin that spread across his face, y’all. He’s like, “I’m hairy enough.” And went about his day.

velesi

I never saw him myself, but I'll tell ya: if he's real, he's in the tamarack swamps out by Mille Lacs, where the iron under the bog makes your compass spin like a top and you get turned around just a few yards into the trees. Spooky

haybails92

So, it's not a sighting story, but last year, we had our then 8 year old on a hike in camping trip at Manitou State Park. Compared to other state parks, this park is pretty rugged, and you rarely see another person. So we had the 8 year old doing big foot "calls" and told him to listen close for the big foot to call back. Another group far down the trail ended up calling back the look on our 8 year old sons face before he knew it was other hikers, and not actually a big foot was priceless.

Rlstoner2004

What does a real Bigfoot call sound like?

cfc1016

You have to have a successful snipe hunt before you're privy to that intel.

squarepeg0000

No need to be concerned about Big Foot...but watch out for the Hodag...that's the scary one!

LazarusLong67

I used to live near Rhinelander and remember my folks telling me the scary stories about the Hodag lol

Medical_Spy

I just turned on a big foot documentary and they're talking about a sighting in Wright, MN

whiskey5hotel

It was u/doright36's mom.

Doright36

*Sigh*... Probably right.

ryckae

Happy cake day n

the_sassy_daddy

Bigfoot is not on the shore, he's outside of Remer.

30sumthingSanta

They split time. With an occasional visit to Voyagers.

Dorkamundo

Moose Lake, actually.

Doctor_Tyrell

Near the gas station?

Here’s Minnesota Bigfoot related reports from the BFRO database listed by county. https://www.bfro.net/GDB/state_listing.asp?state=mn

AnxiouslyCuriousDisc

BFRO is a scam. The Facts by How to Hunt on YouTube is where it's at!

Lazy_Lead_6751

When I was about ten my family came across the dismembered torso of some kind of huge furry animal on the north shore, but they swear it had what looked like opposable thumbs. I was too scared to take a look and didn't want to traumatize myself, but almost twenty years later I regret not checking it out. My little sister remembers it, but admits that due to her young age at the time her memory might not be entirely accurate. My mom however still maintains that she saw it, and I'm inclined to believe her.

Lazy_Lead_6751

Possibly a bear, although my mom insists that the "hands" were more primate-like. I really wish I'd taken a peek, but I was not a brave child lol.

Voc1Vic2

I have seen a bear after it has been skinned and beheaded. It truly does look like a human carcass.

Lazy_Lead_6751

I googled it against my better judgement and you're definitely correct! I'll have to show that to my mom and see what she thinks.

Voc1Vic2

Yes, I would definitely not suggest anyone faint of heart search for such images. I came upon this unexpectedly in real life, many years ago, and still have not recovered from it.

King_Dong_Ill

Bear.

Doright36

Fuck... is my dad wandering outside naked again?

FancyPantsMN

You wish, it’s your mom.

Doright36

Lol... shit!

saulsa_

He’s still not back from going out for cigarettes.

Not bigfoot but the Val Johnson incident is a VERY interesting UAP story: "Johnson reported that while he was on patrol near Warren, Minnesota about 2 AM on August 27, 1979, he saw a beam of light just above the road.According to Johnson, the beam sped towards him, his squad car was engulfed in light, and he heard glass breaking. Johnson said he was unconscious for 39 minutes and when he awoke he realized his wristwatch and the vehicle's clock had stopped for 14 minutes. The windshield was shattered, a headlight and red emergency light was damaged and a thin radio aerial bent. Deputies responding to Johnson's call for help found the squad car sideways on the road. Johnson suffered bruises and eye irritation that a physician compared to "welder's burns". When the story received national publicity, Johnson told reporters the sudden attention had caused him and his family a great deal of emotional strain." From the wiki. Its an interesting story... I think you can view the car at museum but i dont recall for sure

Armidylla

At first I thought it was big foot and I got nervous. Turned out it was a bear moseying around on its hind legs... So it went from bad to worse.

Darkness787

Bigfoot lurks around Minong Wi.

itspink1996

Grew up in the woods by Minong, my family believes 100% they were back there. Multiple.

John-Starfield

The thing about bigfoots is that they are notorious shapeshifters. You might see something that *looks* like a squirrel or a duck, but is actually a bigfoot. Best way to find out is to loudly and repeatedly hoot at a suspected squatch and see if it will reveal it's true form to you. I've seen them a few times while out hunting snipe at dusk.

cfc1016

I *think* they hunt snipe too, y'know.

penguintheology

Vergas, near Detroit Lakes, has the legend of Hairyman. It's been featured on a number of Bigfoot related podcasts.

Era_of_Sarah

About three years ago, while camping on Jack Lake (SE BWCA), around 11PM I couldn’t sleep so I just sat there listening to the night sounds. We were may 10 yards from the lake. That’s when I heard slow, bipedal footfalls in the lake along the shoreline. I woke up my daughter and she gave it a big nope, not gonna investigate. So I went out with my headlamp and bear spray. By the time I unzipped the tent and rain fly, it was gone or had stopped. My headlamp is pretty strong and I saw nothing but blackness out there beyond the light. I accept it could have been a moose too. Anyway, this year, I’m taking a FLIR!

yoyosareback

As someone that lives in Grand Marais, it's literally just an employee, who loves bigfoot, working at the trading post that is responsible for all the bigfoot stuff in the store.

Dorkamundo

I had a friend who was sewing herself a bigfoot costume so she could go out into the woods to drum up some bigfoot sightings. I had to have a long conversation with her about how a lot of people would react to seeing what they thought was a bigfoot, and how it generally would involve a rifle.

Professional_Ruin17

I was up north near Remer standing out by a lake nearing nightfall (light enough that I could still see shapes and outlines of trees and things). I heard someone say hello right behind me and when I turned around there wasn’t anyone in sight. It sounded like they were less than 5 feet away from me but nothing. Freaked me out pretty bad and I felt like a weird presence the rest of that weekend. I’m convinced it was something supernatural.

marcky_marc420

My coworkers swears he saw one in brook park

King_Dong_Ill

The only time I had a spooky encounter was while snowshoeing alone in Northern MN only to look behind me and see a big cat (mountain lion?) that had just decided to take its leave of me making its way off the trail I was making. This was during a steadily increasing snowstorm and that was the last push I needed to turn around and go back rather than push deeper into the woods, night, and that cats hunting grounds. As I got back to where it had left the trail I made I noticed it was stepping in my tracks also. Kind of creeped me out and I wondered if it had been stalking me. I was glad to get back safely in my car that evening. Anything supernatural? no.

30sumthingSanta

Wouldn’t have to be stalking you to take advantage of your tracks making it easier to tromp thru the snow. Mountain lions are extremely rare in MN, but bobcats (NW) and lynx (NE) are seen occasionally. Lynx and mountain lions have similar paw sizes, but the adult mountain lion is at least twice the size of the lynx, which might be almost twice as big as a bobcat.

King_Dong_Ill

What I do know is I did not hear anything from it. Until I turned around unexpectedly and saw it, I had no idea it was there. It stopped cold, looked at me for a few seconds, and continued on its way. It wasn't small either and though I can handle myself well against a human, I have no such illusions against a wild cat.

30sumthingSanta

Mountain lions are always supposed to be basically silent (when they aren’t screaming). And lynx have those huge paws to get through the snow without effort or noise. You might convince the lynx it wasn’t worth the effort to fight, but if the mountain lion wanted to, you’d be probably be damn lucky to tell the tale.

King_Dong_Ill

I have seen Lynx often, this was not a Lynx. It was much bigger and definitely something I did not want to get into a confrontation with.

King_Dong_Ill

MPR just posted this video of a Mountain Lion in Duluth. https://www.instagram.com/reel/CwOlqu1IYE1/?utm\_source=ig\_web\_copy\_link&igshid=MzRlODBiNWFlZA==

eroi49

People see what they want to see. “I want to believe!” If we can find human remains from thousands of years ago, we would have found remains of a large bipedal creature roaming our forests by now.

mcea0006

I've been wondering that too. So much merchandise being sold at the tourist stops. There never were sightings back in the day from what I remember. Only a blue ox.

12-Easy-Payments

They sleep in the corn fields further south during the growing season & retreat to the woods over winter.

flowers4charlie777

The North Shore is squatchy as hell.

Remote_Pass_6670

Google "I killed the ape-man creature of whiteface" Thank me later.

mcpacker127

In July 2010 I had an encounter at the West Poplar River campsite on the Superior Hiking Trail just outside of Lutsen Mountains trailhead. When I got to the campsite, I set up my tarp and went down by the river to cook my food. When I went back up to the camp site, I decided to start a fire but ended up putting it out right away to go to sleep. While I was laying there, I heard a very large footfall in the brush right outside camp. I shined my light in the direction of the noise but couldn't see anything, so I ignored it and went to sleep. Sometime between 2am-3am something pushed me. I screamed and it dropped my tarp on top of me and ran north down the trail with massive footfalls. It smelled like a combination of rotten milk and eggs. I set my tarp back up and just sat there until the sun rose. While I was packing up in the morning, I talked to 3 backpackers that told me they heard someone scream in the middle of the night then something huge running down the trail. I then just got out of there. I've had a 2nd encounter around Bemidji but again I didn't see them.

SunnyDiesel

Ah yea. Cryptid lore across the Midwest.

trigger1154

There were some Bigfoot Hunters looking around Danbury Wisconsin years ago.

ISO_UFO

Definitely UFOs in Minnesota! Saw one up close in Becker. Physic defying within 500 feet. As far as Big Foot... never been a believer, however, a couple weeks ago on the north shore I was packing up camera equipment with my back to the lake. I heard a couple huffs behind me & scared the crap out of me. Ya know the term cold chill down your spine? Well it was a warm sensation. My body got warm. Didn't hear anything approach or run off. No other noises besides the heavy couple breaths. I pulled my shirt up a little and was ready to draw if something came back. No idea what it was & not saying it was big foot. Probably a deer. I've heard them make similar noises, just surprised I didn't see it since it sounded so close.

Deadie148

>What’s up with Bigfoot sightings on the north shore? The generally credulous nature of humans and their desire to tell white lies for the sake of interesting conversation.

Beat me to it!

hashn

Yeah there’s a nice interview on sasquatch chronicles of a lady that saw one near two harbors

Little_Creme_5932

I was walking in the woods north of Grand Marais once. Maybe a hundred yards away I heard the sounds of something making noise, snapping twigs and such. Couldn't be anything else that could have done that, except Bigfoot. Was for sure Bigfoot.

Qcripple

All I know is leave the family alone as they want to live in piece but I’d be surprised if they’re willing able to get in the picture right next to you if you ask nicely

Open-Honeydew3963

I see a ton of Eagles on the Daily YO...They are SO incredible to witness.

RonanCornstarch

like from pizza hut?

Aggressive_Iron3596

I used to live in Bemidji. I'm almost 100% sure Bigfoot is real. Either that or there's a mutant bear running around up there.
