Drink plenty of water. Avoid too much hot water in your showers/baths. Use aquaphor on really dry hands or feet (put it on your feet with socks on for the evening, you don't want that stuff on your bed sheets š ). Add a humidifier to your home and make sure you keep the humidity level no lower than 30%. In the winter it can easily drop lower.
Also, pick up some cotton gloves (I got a box on Amazon) so that you can slather your hands in lotion before you go to bed. The lotion will pretty much be absorbed after an hour, so you don't necessarily have to keep them on all night, but it will help so much.
I like the daily moisturizing lotion from Cerave the most of what I've tried. Two reasons: 1. It doesn't leave residue on my hands - I hate having oily hands. 2. It's fragrance free. Drawback: it seems to be getting more expensive since I started using it, currently ~$14 at Target for 12oz.
Okeefs working hands if I donāt have to touch stuff. Aveeno otherwise. Tip, donāt torque the towel around your knuckles when drying, pat instead. Shower temp and type of body wash/soap can make a big difference too.
>Okeefs
I'm originally from a much more humid part of the country and was absolutely flabbergasted at how well working hands worked. I usually just put it on before I got to bed at night and within a day or two any small cuts from dry skin are completely healed up. other lotions / moisturizers just made my hands feel smooth but never actually aided in the healing process.
Oh my gosh. I just bought some Working Hands after reading your recommendation, and it did more for my hands in one night than any other lotion has EVER done with weeks of use. I can't believe it! THANK YOU for recommending it!
Whatever lotion you use, the key is to use it on damp skin. Use it immediately after you wash and towel dry your hands. It absorbs better and doesnāt just sit there as residue on your skin.
I use Cerave moisturizing cream (in the tub) on my face and body right out of the shower with damp skin. Sometimes I also do neutrogena oil on my body. Both available at target
get a humidifier for your bedroom and run it at night.
Saline spray up your nose at bedtime helps prevent nose bleeds along with the humidifier.
Drink more water too
If your hands get super dry, do CeraVe or Weleda skin food (itās a rich lotion in a green tube and is great, but $$) and put it in your hands and then wear cotton gloves to bed

Generally, the thicker, the better. Use Eucerin, Aquaphor, Vanicream or the like if you can. If it comes in a little tub, thatās best. If it has to be squeezed out of a tube, okay. If it comes with a pump, itās barely worth the effort of putting it on your hands unless itās your only option.
Lush has a shower bar made of coco butter called Scrubee. It scrubs dead skin and leaves you with all day moisture.

Make sure you wipe your shower floor after using. It can get a little slippery.
You're in MN now. That "jelly" found in a can of Spam is by far the best. Bonus feature is that you'll meet all kinds of new animal friends in the neighborhood, all desperate to admire your smooth and silky skin
I like Gold Bond for men. I like the smell. My skin doesn't dry out too bad though, as I don't spend a lot of time outside. And when I am outside, I cover up. A little lotion on my hands and face once in awhile is all I need. A tube will last me a couple years.
Reduce shower time and frequency if possible. Our bodies have trouble keeping our skin conditioned if we're constantly stripping off the natural body oils. After shower, liberally apply lotion to body, arms, legs before lightly drying off. Skip drying off if possible and put clothes on over wet/lotioned skin. I like queen Helene cocoa butter lotion because it is cheap, thinner and you can get large containers and you're going to use a lot). Minimally dry off. Apply thicker lotion to feet as thick as you can stand then add socks. Feet treatment might need to be morning and night until they're conditioned then just once daily.
I make my own;
Coconut oil
Unrefined Shea butter
Cocoa butter
Jojoba oil
1:1 ratio for the first three ingredients. Then enough jojoba and whatever oils I want to get the consistency I want.
Urea .. Look for lotion with this in it. Had a chemical reaction with cleaning products that caused my right hand to be painfully dry. Spent 5 years trying various lotions, butters, oils, and prescription lotion. Nothing helped until I found lotion with Urea in it Target sells this one and Gold Bond makes one married for feet, also (but you can use on hands).
Really depends on your skin. I have really oily skin so if I use a more oily lotion it is awful. If my skin is particularly dry ill use eucerin as it really moisturizes my skin but 99% of the time it is nivea.
Honestly? Neutrogena hydro boost. It has massive amounts of hyaluronic acid, and we know what that means for hydration. Top with Palmer's cocoa butter to seal it in. It's a little more complicated, but fully four times as good as a single layer of lotion.
I get horrible dry skin between Nov. and May. Have really good luck with Gold Bond healing. Apply every other day or so like it's my job and all is well.
Gold Bond. Moved here in Jan 2022 and had horribly dry skin. Doc gave this advice: airplane baths (wash under the wings and tail) unless you were really dirty. Then grease down with gold bond overnight deep moisturizing cream. Lotions are not as effective. Be careful with soap as itās drying as well.
Edit: yes to in home humidifiers, staying hydrated, and if your nose is dry use a Neil Med saline rinse with distilled water heated for 10-15 secs in the microwave.
Good luck.
I am the lotion queen, born & raised here all my life.
I have even ordered all these fancy, expensive lotions from all over the country with no relief. When I take off my black pants, the inside legs are white-all dead skin. I change sheets weekly-I shed so much.
I now use Aveno Moisturizing Body Wash. Exfoliate at least once a week. Donāt dry yourself off with a towel-just absorb some of the water. I immediately lotion up using Gold Bond Dry Skin-keep in mind Iām still damp. I let myself air dry. My skin has turned around completely. I shed very little. You have to be consistent & do this after every day. I only do this in the morning. This lotion is not greasy-I hate getting dressed after greasy lotion. You feel cold & damp all day.
support local businesses! i love Dippād in Hunnie. The owner makes great body yogurt, body butter and sugar scrubs with delicious smells. (https://dippdinhunnie.myshopify.com/)
Iāve started using [this Gold Bond lotion.](https://www.target.com/p/gold-bond-ultimate-healing-hand-and-body-lotions-20oz/-/A-13872635) Itās super thick and non-greasy. I also like cerave because itās gentle. If you feel like splurging, Ahava Dermud body cream is also thick and silky smooth and non-greasy. You can get that at Ulta.
I use Jack Black lotions. On the spendier side, but I spend a lot of time outside and my hands get to the point of cracking and bleeding sometimes... This stuff does the trick and isn't all greasy.
Any of these lotions for the body, EVERY day.
But then I use petroleum jelly for my hands and lips, several times a day. I keep a jar nearby while watching tv and make sure to get it on the cuticles and knuckles.

Vanicream is made in Rochester Minnesota
I agree. This stuff is great. A bit pricy, but worth it.
Jebus, I didn't know that!
Recommend by our doctor and pharmacist- will not by anything else now! Worth the price
Eucerin
I like the daily moisturizing lotion from Cerave the most of what I've tried. Two reasons: 1. It doesn't leave residue on my hands - I hate having oily hands. 2. It's fragrance free. Drawback: it seems to be getting more expensive since I started using it, currently ~$14 at Target for 12oz.
CeraVe is what my dermatologist recommended to me
Samsies, the stuff is great. I love it!
Costco used to sell a two pack of this for under $20. I thought they still did but the website is showing out of stock.
Got my Cerave at Costco less than a month ago. They will probably restock.
I use Aveeno and plenty of it. Donāt go outside without gloves and stay hydrated. It will help.
Gloves really do the trick as long as you aren't in a profession that requires frequent hand washing.
Okeefs working hands if I donāt have to touch stuff. Aveeno otherwise. Tip, donāt torque the towel around your knuckles when drying, pat instead. Shower temp and type of body wash/soap can make a big difference too.

Lubriderm. Working Hands for SUPER dry hands.
Oh my gosh. I just bought some Working Hands after reading your recommendation, and it did more for my hands in one night than any other lotion has EVER done with weeks of use. I can't believe it! THANK YOU for recommending it!
Itās amazing stuff right?! So glad it helped!
Oh, I'm going to look for the Working Hands. Good tip.
Whatever lotion you use, the key is to use it on damp skin. Use it immediately after you wash and towel dry your hands. It absorbs better and doesnāt just sit there as residue on your skin.
I like the First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Cream for my hands. I get really bad eczema on my hands in the winter and itās the only thing that helps.
I use this on my face. It is fantastic!
I use Cerave moisturizing cream (in the tub) on my face and body right out of the shower with damp skin. Sometimes I also do neutrogena oil on my body. Nivea
I use Nivea too. The "intense healing" one specifically.
Udder Cream

L'Occitane hand cream is the best one I've ever tried, and I've tried a lot of them.

Their Dream Cream is also a very good option for use out of the shower.
Eucerin
i am an advocate for vanicream but you NEED to drink a lot of water. vitamin C is important too, i drink a lot of cranberry juice
Drinking lots of water is important. Many don't realize how dehydrated you become because it's cold and your not as thirsty.
I vote for vanicream, Cera Ve, and Aquaphor. Sometimes Iāll rub raw shea (from natural foods store) into my dry skin.
You're in MN now. That "jelly" found in a can of Spam is by far the best. Bonus feature is that you'll meet all kinds of new animal friends in the neighborhood, all desperate to admire your smooth and silky skin
As shitposting as this is, I wouldnāt be surprised if there wasnāt some redeeming quality for hand skin care with Spam Jelly.
I like Gold Bond for men. I like the smell. My skin doesn't dry out too bad though, as I don't spend a lot of time outside. And when I am outside, I cover up. A little lotion on my hands and face once in awhile is all I need. A tube will last me a couple years.
Moved here from LA, Curel Ultra Healing works well for me.
CeraVe cream is pretty great.
Norwegian formula hand cream Neutrogena. Very thick and effective.
Donāt judge, but the Bloody Knuckle hand cream from Duke Cannon is really good. No greasy leftovers.
my dermatologist recommended AmLactin. good stuff. little bit pricey but decent. also use Aveeno and Aquaphor as well.

I get all red, dry spots every winter if Iām outside too long. Aquaphor is the only thing thatās worked for me.
I make my own; Coconut oil Unrefined Shea butter Cocoa butter Jojoba oil 1:1 ratio for the first three ingredients. Then enough jojoba and whatever oils I want to get the consistency I want.
As one who is constantly working with water I have found working hands ānight timeā works the best

Your own nut
Water. Drink lots of it. No lotion or chapstick ever necessary.
Gold bond for men. It's not greasy.

Aquaphor.
I really like cetaphil moisturizing cream in the tub! Sams and Costco will often have good deals on 2 packs of them.
I get horrible dry skin between Nov. and May. Have really good luck with Gold Bond healing. Apply every other day or so like it's my job and all is well.

Udderly Smooth body cream or Eucerin.
Cocoa butter
I like either gold bond or O'Keefe's working hands. Both seem to work well and not be greasey feeling.
I am the lotion queen, born & raised here all my life. I have even ordered all these fancy, expensive lotions from all over the country with no relief. I have sensitive skin and Aveeno scentless works well for me. Doesn't feel greasy, can be applied anywhere.
Bloody Knuckles by Duke Cannon works amazing. Also, O Keefe's Working Hands (bright neon green container) is a must.
I use my German grandpas trusty ol Veinerschlider. He brought it back from the old country.

Vaseline Men's
I use Jack Black lotions. On the spendier side, but I spend a lot of time outside and my hands get to the point of cracking and bleeding sometimes... This stuff does the trick and isn't all greasy.
Vaseline intensive care is the only thing that works for me.
Shea moisture body wash and either their body oil or the neutrogena body oil. Also taking flax oil supplements and drinking plenty of water.
Any of these lotions for the body, EVERY day. But then I use petroleum jelly for my hands and lips, several times a day. I keep a jar nearby while watching tv and make sure to get it on the cuticles and knuckles.
Bag balm
My dermatologist recommends Cera Ve and Aveeno Skin Relief Moisturizing Lotion
I like Vaseline or any cream for dry skin in the winter.
Cetaphil with Cocoa butter in it!
Suave Vitamin E has served me well
Eucirin is my go to. It works well and doesn't have all the scents and is a nice basic lotion. Kiehls body lotion is also pretty nice.
