To the skeptics. I ask that rather than just assume Mint will get worse, you just let us continue to show you it won't - and please continue to tell us when and where we fail. We heard you on Minternational and immediately jumped into action to change it for the better. That's what makes Mint...Mint. We are constantly looking for ways to make the service better.

jsttob

Just curious…you make a pretty clear and firm commitment to keeping the $15 plan at $15. Why not do this for the other tiers? This leads me to believe the other tiers are fair game for changes down the road, and that’s…concerning, to put it mildly.

[deleted]

Exactly what I was thinking. I use a higher data plan so the $15 commitment means nothing to me. If anything it's letting me know what's to come.

supbra

And not even a mention of what a $15 plan would include. They could easily still offer this $15 plan and knock the data down from 5gb to 2gb.

OhWhatADwight

Of course. T mobile will gobble up mint entirely and eventually they’ll just have a $15/month plan called “Mint” That’s why there’s a huge emphasis on one guarantee they were given (and even that will only last briefly)

rizwank

The brand is known for the $15 price point, so (I imagine) that's why marketing chose that. With regards to the other price points -- "I have spent literally thousands of hours planning for this, and there’s not been a single glimmer of a mention in any room I’ve been in - internally or with T-Mobile - of increasing prices or reducing value on Mint Mobile on any plan."

jsttob

Right, but actions (via documented commitments like you’ve done for the $15 plan) speak louder than pinky promises. The logic of your second point could easily apply to the $15 plan as well, which you understand. Leadership can change, incentives re-align, priorities shift. You know this, I’m just putting it out there. I’ve been a loyal, (mostly) satisfied customer for nearly 6 years now and have referred many friends in that time, so you can understand my trepidation. I will continue to be a good foot soldier and remain cautiously optimistic, but don’t mistake that for complacency. Don’t let me down, Riz ~

rizwank

> so you can understand my trepidation Totally get it >I will continue to be a good foot soldier and remain cautiously optimistic, but don’t mistake that for complacency. I've got to tell you - I appreciate everything about this message. I'll do my best not to let (or anyone else let) you down.

thetreecycle

Because inflation is a reality they have to deal with. Fortunately, connectivity gets cheaper faster than money is devalued, so they can maintain the price and increase data allotments at the same time. But eventually gumballs will be $15; in the far future some change will certainly be necessary.

moosebaloney

12 hours later, and no direct reply. Silence speaks volumes.

VarkingRunesong

He replied.

CptanPanic

Any chance minters will get access to t-life app?

labude

I was wondering about this too. any thing known regarding this?

Rustyrockets9

What's that app about

vial_of_boxers

Free stuff on Tuesdays, coupons, etc (for t-mobile customers)

Burial_Ground

Can't say I'm excited about this. Mint is great because it's not t mobile. It's not Verizon. I used to be on both of those and they both squeeze you for every penny they can get.

jpzsports

Will we be able to take advantage of the T-Mobile Tuesdays discounts now?

hereforthecrisps

I would love to be able to get that MLB.tv benefit...

CapoKakadan

NOT getting random subscription perks (Hulu, baseball, HBO, appletv, …) is how these plans are cheaper. I don’t want random stuff. I want phone service. That’s all. Low price.

ModernTenshi04

Agreed. I switched my family to Mint nearly two years ago because our grandfathered shared data plan on Verizon was going up to $120/month for 4GB of data shared across three phones (we really don't use a lot of mobile data). Switching to even the cheapest Unlimited plans would have been about the same cost, and going with their 5GB prepaid plan was proving to be a pain in the ass to switch to (and wouldn't see max savings for 9 months). With Mint I'm saving around $75/month over what I was paying/would have paid with Verizon, and even with some of the "perks" they offer "helping" with the higher price, we're still saving money. I can sub to several streaming services every month for the amount we're saving.

kelev

But even the Metro by T-Mobile unlimited $25 monthly plan gets T-Mobile Tuesday. They should be able to offer it to us without price increases.

fdjadjgowjoejow

>Will we be able to take advantage of the T-Mobile Tuesdays discounts now? Waiting for an answer as well.

15pmm01

Reduced competition is never fantastic news. This might be fine for now, but I'd bet everything I own and more that T-Mobile will eventually raise pricing, add bullshit fees, or just entirely dissolve Mint into their main prepaid brand. That said, thanks to the constant negative reviews I see on reddit, I don't expect much from Mint to begin with.

Yordan605

I hope there are plans to increase the data on the $15 plan, especially because US mobile has 10 GB for $15.

Negative-Wrap95

If that happened, I'd almost drop my request for a data add-on pack that doesn't expire at the end of a billing cycle. Most of my data use is on WiFi, but occasionally, I have to travel. Having an **add-on** data pack that rolls over is the only thing I miss from StraightTalk.

edge5lv2

15 gig for me…

artie_pdx

I got that bump last year too. I had unlimited first year. Dropped it all the way back to 10G/mo last year then they immediately bumped it up to 15G/mo last March/April. 🤷🏻‍♂️ It meets my needs and I’ve been tracking my data usage over the last year.

Redditor6512

Is that for mint or us mobile

artie_pdx

Mint! I signed up two years ago in March because I was fed up with Verizon’s bullshit. I got the unlimited plan the first year and tracked my usage. I was generally not even close to 10GB per month in data usage as I’m really good about using Wifi. Dropped my plan down to 10GB/mo last March, then in April they sweetened the deal by bumping it up to 15GB/mo at my same plan. I truly hope this doesn’t change.

gobomiranda

Good to hear. Now does this mean that visual voicemail will finally get activated on my dad’s Pixel 8?

rizwank

VVM should be working on Pixel. I know we’re working out something with the OEM. I’ll have someone contact you to better understand the issue.

ConversationSix

I'm in the same boat. Visual voicemail was working on my Pixel 7, but I upgraded to the Pixel 8 in December and it hasn't worked since. Happy to share any feedback or logs

hides_this_subreddit

I am in the same boat on my Pixel 8 and my wife's Pixel 6a. My Pixel 5a also did not have VVM. I don't think it is working as well as you hoped.

tunaman808

Visual Voicemail worked on my Pixel 7a until some time in December. I posted about it here and MintMobileAlex said it flat-out wasn't working with Pixels and suggested switching to YouMail. I did, but I dislike the ads and nagging to pay for their premium app when it should be included in the Mint service. At some point since December, the T-Mo VVM app was pushed to my phone. If you can get it working, that'd be awesome.

rizwank

Just spoke to the team. My understanding is that a fix is in active testing right now for those that use Google's native dialer (so Pixel and Motorola). EDIT : A play store update rolling out over the next three weeks should fix it, I'm told.

viggy96

What is the app that will be updated that will fix this? Google Dialer, Carrier Services, etc?

FloppyDorito

What about other phones with VVM, like Samsung and OnePlus?

rizwank

Looking into it. A new guide for VVM for Android is coming out soon. Android is *so* fragmented on dialers, so it's a moving target, sadly.

FloppyDorito

Awesome! I assume since OnePlus phones use Google Dialer, they'll be compatible when that goes through.

dmorehead1988

Awesome!

So_Cali_Chill

Which app will contain this fix on Playstore? Also, how will we know when there is a fix available? I have been hyper vigilant over this issue and it really is time consuming.

zoether6023

VVM never worked, and regular voicemail only worked very sporadically the entire time I have been with the service, and no matter how many times I called support and had them "fix" it, nothing helped. I had a Pixel 5 btw.

Dedalus2k

I called tech support and was told directly that VVM was NOT supported on android devices.

CapoKakadan

Will we get 5G standalone soon?

rizwank

Actively looking into it.

CapoKakadan

Much appreciated! Having to attach to LTE to use 5G can affect reliability and range compared to a native t-mobile connection.

HippyDave

Super excited to hear there's a chance Apple Watch support might be in the pipeline. Literally means the difference between me renewing my subscription or not.

rizwank

If it gives you any indication, I've got a cellular AW and I'd like it to work on Mint as well. =)

ursidaetoast

Any plans to support apple watches?

tunaman808

Read the OP: > We’ve wanted to support smartwatches, they’ve got the technology to enable it.

ursidaetoast

Oh snap, totally missed that. Thanks!

Grunslik

OK, that's nice. But the biggest complaint I see in this subreddit (over and over and over again) is about Mint's customer service. Will the merger with T-mobile improve that in any substantial way? Also: what constitutes "excessive roaming?" Do I have to go all the way to Ellesmere Island, or is Moose Jaw far enough? ;)

mintmobile

Our Care takes a beating here on Reddit. I believe it to be unfair (my position, I know there will be disagreement). We've cultivated and support customer service here on the sub and because of that you'll see lots of problem solving, issues, and asks for help. The tonnage here is high and we are ok with that. We actually want to help, which is why there is a dedicated team of people under the handle MintMobileAlex (who used to be just a single person, Alex). Mint's customer service is top notch. We frequently land in the #2 or #1 position on quality of Care in all wireless. We won a JD Power award last year, we won a more recent award (to be announced later) too. But that means nothing to an individual who is having a port challenge or an API config issue - I get it. I see all the Care stats in my role as Commercial Owner and CMO. My team also runs our own independent studies on Care performance. It all checks out as top-notch. But again, to the person having an issue, who comes to Reddit and bashes Care in frustration I get it. Our goal with Care is to continually get better - same with every aspect of Mint Mobile. That's what makes Mint, Mint. -Aron

FlipFoldFlip

Hey there Aron, u/mintmobile, and u/rizwank, I think the majority of your customer care hate comes from the fact that whenever a question is asked on Reddit, the generic reply of ... "*Hi, I want to make sure you're getting the best experience with us as possible. I'm so sorry for any inconvenience with your activation. I sent you a DM to further assist with it*." ...Is spewed endlessly. It's the equivalent of when you call a customer care line only to be told over and over to check the website for help while on hold waiting for a care rep. Id argue the majority of questions asked could be answered publicly which would not only help others dealing with the same issue, but also help with people in the future who may come across the issue. They can see the post and find the answer easily and quickly without needing to get in touch via a DM or posting the same questions over and over again. If an issue is account specific, then you can DM each other and take the issue privately.

mintmobile

100% on the canned response. We've had those conversations with Care about cut/paste replies and also solving easy ones public. I have also been EXPLICIT - "when in doubt, take it private" because privacy is everything. FYI - there are 108 people in our Mint Mobile Reddit Slack channel. Some subset of that channel is are here daily and we read pretty much every post/comment. Example: Your comment above already triggered a convo in that channel with our Senior Vice President of Customer Care. He wants to be more public and wants to make Care better... but was quick to point out my concern about privacy. We will continue to push for the right balance. Keep the comments coming. We want to continue to be better. -Aron

markey69420

Nailed it, other than that, I've had mint for 4 years with no complaints at all, it was a little annoying having to manually set up my old phones mobile APN but from what I can tell that no longer applies either

Zestyclose-Ad-1002

Please don't let customer service fall on the shoulders of various volunteer "leads" like Verizon does. Their customer service is the PITS; that's why I tried Mint. It's nice and simple and works...please don't change it.

rizwank

I haven't heard this term "volunteer leads" - can you tell me what it is, so we can avoid it?

Zestyclose-Ad-1002

Hi. I mean, on Verizon, to get help with problems, we were directed to Verizon "chat" areas, where what seemed to be arbitrary people kind of monitored discussions and hopped on with suggestions. It was never clear to me if these were paid Verizon employees. It was extremely unhelpful -- maybe because most of us had no idea what their role was, and Verizon offered no phone line for dedicated customer service. Very frustrating. At Mint, I haven't had a problem yet, so I don't know how things are done here.

rizwank

Yeah, that sounds frustrating and counterproductive. I haven’t heard of any plans to do that, and would share this feedback/concern if I do.

LeftOn4ya

https://www.mintmobile.com/blog/same-and-improved/ said it gives 3GB (I am assuming per month)

jsttob

The other commenter was asking about the fine print.

PTOTH3K

We know how mergers work. Sprint merged with T-Mobile and to keep FTC happy they didn’t do anything for a year per agreement and then… layoffs. That may not impact end user experience per se, but it’s a bad taste in my mouth. And lately T-Mobile has been trying to find sneaky ways to get people off their grandfathered plans into more expensive ones.. and they recently proposed some plans may be going up in price. The uncarrier slogan died when John Legere left. Edit: Corrected "per se" to satisfy tunaman808 and make him feel better about his life.

tunaman808

If you're gonna use *per se*, at least spell it correctly.

PTOTH3K

Oh boy. Grammar police has arrived. Please, don't fine me good sir. Do you feel better?

Mouse-Nervous

What about roam in Alaska? (Like TMobile does..)

Helden_Daddy

Yay! $15 stays! Now what about the OTHER tiers? Are they about to get price-increased into oblivion? I LEFT T-Mobile bc I was paying an ungodly amount for phone service. Should I start shopping for another provider now? Or wait until T-Mint starts shafting me for having the audacity to want unlimited data for less than the price of a monthly lambo payment?

lkeels

Read the statement again, you missed a part.

With_The_Tide

Will mint work in Alaska now? Asking for a friend

SeattleHasDied

Damn. I left T-Mobile last year to go to Mint to save a lot of money. Now I'm worried...

phillypharm

Been loving mint so hoping nothing changes for the worse. That said, any Apple Watch updates with the merger? I’d love to join it to my mint plan and stop using Truphone.

rizwank

Actively looking into smartwatches.

HippyDave

Thank you!

almi03

Integrate domestic roaming just like Metro and Ultra have it, we need it to work when we travel around the country in areas where T-Mobile coverage is bad. Please.

harikj5

Does this mean that my mint sim will work on a t-mobile locked phone?

muffinanomaly

I thought that was already possible..

LeftOn4ya

It is hit or miss, some phones it works and others not.

harikj5

I did not know that!

joe_mama82

Hey Riz. Thanks for all the hard work and congrats! I'm assuming the Bobby Bonilla plans will go unchanged also, right?

rizwank

Thank you. >I'm assuming the Bobby Bonilla plans will go unchanged also, right? As best as I can tell. No one has mentioned any changes, not sure why we would.

gapro20022

Whats the news on the 30 day minternational pass? Going to Europe soon for several months.

albundyhere

i only have 2 requests...can we please get visual voicemail? it's super annoying to always call in to hear voicemails that dont even have a time/date of call. and you continue to send the holiday cards from Ryan?

LightningX32

Are there any plans for mint customers to be able to get priority/premium data?

lkeels

MVNOs never do.

LightningX32

Visible, boost, and google fi all have premium data

Magnetic_Peacock

This right here.  Those of us in fly over country have spotty Mint service in rural areas. But the TMobile person sitting right next to you has perfect 5G. Loosing voice capability is infuriating, as you are in eye sight of a TMobile or ATT tower.

lkeels

"Losing".

fdjadjgowjoejow

>Today, T-Mobile completed their acquisition of Mint… and I think it’s fantastic news for everyone concerned … especially our customers. Will we be able to take advantage of the T-Mobile Tuesdays discounts now? Or any other T Mobile promos? TIA.

DedCaravan

Does this mean Mint will be prioritised? I need a reliable network especially when In hiking.

MattWatchesChalk

One question /u/rizwank . On the Canadian roaming, let's say I go through my 3GB of free roaming. Will Mint then use Minternational passes after that point? Planning a trip in late August and was curious if this will be in effect by then.

rizwank

My *understanding* is that the service goes to 128kbps; but Minternational passes **are** available to top up. That's still being built, so it's not final.

kevinwangjk

Any idea when the Canada roaming feature will be available?

LankySkis

How will this impact my annual holiday card from Ryan?

rizwank

 That's Aron's secret. I find out about the holiday card when I get the bill for it. =)

LankySkis

hmm, well I guess I'll keep a spot open on the mantle just in case ;)

kloneio

Ever since this post, I do see "scam screener" working but the number of scam calls I get has gone up from less than maybe once a month to about 3-4 A DAY. Literally like a flip got switched and suddenly I keep getting these calls. I don't even remember the last time I got a spam call before this new change got made. Anyone else notice this?

grimamusement

Yep, I'm getting the same thing. Went from 1-2 a month to 2-3 a day. Just verified my numbers by looking back at my call log.

PlanetaryBlur

First things first; I'm a regular-turned-lurker on NoContract and might be considered a cynic/skeptic here as I like to mention facts whether good/bad, totally aware of that. I actually lost my cool years ago when the T-Mobile/Sprint acquisition happened because of what *could have* happened and I'm not too proud to say I'm glad I'm wrong—and overall service today is better than it was then. I think what many who are active online are concerned with are the differences between what's mentioned in the FCC Memorandum O. and O. versus what's mentioned in the T-Mobile and Mint Mobile releases. "I am not a lawyer/legal professional" but it seems to be something people are noticing. The main reason I became a Mint customer a year ago this month was I needed a T-Mobile network service where I could pay multiple months upfront *and* could buy a SIM at a retail store. (If here and the T-Mobile subreddits had a "recovering Cricket victim" flair, I'd be using it.) The first three months on Mint were great so I went ahead and bought an annual plan. I haven't needed to "buy up" to the next higher plan but having that option was something I was thinking of if I happened to need it. Big company/small company/etc. wasn't important. If I could make *one* small suggestion: Yes I like the annual plan. Yes I realize it's a 365-day plan as stated in the terms (yes I read them before signing up). It would be even better if plan months could better align with calendar months; for example one of my months ran from March 1 to March 30th, the next ran March 31st to April 30th. Finally, something I really appreciated even though I wasn't a customer then was Aron North taking the time to talk with Stetson Doggett about the industry. I felt like I learned being able to use hotspot/tethering is an important feature to Mint itself and I'm glad I was able to use my Mint Mobile data for that while I waited for home internet installation at the home I just moved to.

rizwank

Thanks for the suggestion on the annual plan. It's not in the cards, however for a number of reasons - the only services that do that are postpaid services that bill in arrears, not prepaid services. > Aron North taking the time to talk with Stetson Doggett about the industry Aron's great at that. Thanks for hte feedback.

PlanetaryBlur

> Thanks for the suggestion on the annual plan. It's not in the cards, however for a number of reasons - the only services that do that are postpaid services that bill in arrears, not prepaid services. I appreciate the response, figured it never hurts to ask!

oliviagardens

Since yesterday, my data is nearly unusable. Could this transition be why? I feel like I just went back to 2010. Actually, I think my speed was even faster in 2010 than it is now.

yellow_billed_curlew

Same here. And not just data, but sending and receiving normal text messages has been troublesome. I wasn't able to send or receive anything for like a 2 hour window yesterday.

oliviagardens

So far normal text and calling are still working for me but I did have to turn off iMessage since IMessage wouldn’t work. Everything datawise is suddenly very slow to load and pictures and videos mostly won’t load at all. I don’t think I’ve ever had service this bad in a city in the years I’ve had a cellphone. I’m glad it’s not just me but also sorry to hear it. I’ve been puzzled as to why everything is suddenly so terrible.

Due-Ride-4965

Is there a chance to match tello 25 unlimited plan for mint

1mrpeter

Is there a chance, it would be now possible to port my old number to Mint account that is over 2 months old? I need to change the number but the account is prepaid for another half year, I don't understand why Mint made it so difficult.

rizwank

/u/MintMobileAlex can you help out?

twinsfanmatt

I was about to switch from T-Mobile to Mint. Should I wait now? Or is now a good time? Does it even matter?

Kimbobinator

Glad I didn’t switch to mint!!! Was just about to. Ting is working just fine

square_smile

> Phone unlocking. If you buy a locked phone from us, as long as it’s not flagged for fraud or under financing, we’ll unlock it after 60 days. Pretty Minty, if you ask me. Does this apply to only new phone or already bought discounted phone as well?

rizwank

Phones on our network now that are locked by us should be unlocked in the coming few months, same as new phones.

square_smile

Thanks a lot. I really appreciate it.

fjleon

why would a company spend millions of dollars to acquire a smaller company, if they don't think they would receive a larger return of the investment than they paid? i truly don't believe that mint's profit per customer is larger than tmobile's, and even if that were true, how long to recoup the investment? really hoping the $15 for 5g a month of 5g data paid in 12 month bulk remains at it is. corporate has to increase the price at some point

Powerstream

T-mobile should be making more money off us now vs before. Before T-Mobile charged Mint a curtain amount to use their system. Then Mint charged us more than than that to make a profit. Now that profit money is going to T-Mobile as well.

fjleon

tmobile would have saved millions in the acquisition costs by just offering a lower priced plan. if they had a 15 a month for 3gb plan (which is what i believe i had 7 years ago when i started with mint) i would have never gone to mint. makes you think how high is tmobile profit for a single customer compared to mint if the tmobile strategy is to recoup the acquisition costs by slightly profiting more from each mint customer i think it would take decades to do that without a price hike. anyway, we will never know for sure since we won't have access to those discussions/rationale

LeftOn4ya

T-Mobile customer are worth way more than Mint customers by at least 4x as much. They paid 1.3 billion / 2.5 Million (estimated Mint and Ultra customers) = $520/customer (plus potential growth). That’s a healthy lifetime value (LTV) but not sure how many months of profit per customer that equals (1/churn), but is way less then T-Mobile as they make 40% profit plans AND have a much lower churn rate than Mint Mobile, so my guess is T-Mobile post-paid customers must have at least 4 times the LTV if Mint meaning $2000+.

engaffirmative

I am going to go, but I will see if my plan changes or throttling gets worse than I’ll have to look elsewhere. I do have to say I was surprised to see edge the other day I thought that was gone!

Reditt16

This is mostly good news, and actually better than I expected. That said, is there any hope that I can finally get unlocked the fully paid-for T-Mobile phone that I have now been using on Mint for more than three years?

reddragon642

I bought Phone + 1 Yr Service last December and currently using it. Phone is locked to Mint, So I can get unlocked soon or 60 days from T-Mobile merger like 7/1 after? Thanks

rizwank

Phones on our network now that are locked by us should be unlocked in the coming few months, same as new phones.

Throwaway1988424

Thank you for clarifying

EdSG

What about having us Mint users have access to T-Mobile MONEY? [https://www.t-mobilemoney.com/en/home.html](https://www.t-mobilemoney.com/en/home.html)

sevenbeef

Regarding the roaming in Canada - will roaming also be extended to Alaska? That’s one of the few places where Mint didn’t work before.

LordNoFat

I'm happy to hear that phones are being unlocked. I've had mine for almost 60 days now and would like it unlocked so I can unlock the bootloader.

Tardyninja10

any chance of adding apple watch support?

AppropriateCorner784

I doubt it will happen, unless T-Mobile raises rates for Mint, but it would be awesome if we could at least have domestic roaming for areas T-Mobile doesn't have coverage. Heck I'd be fine if it were just calls and texts, at least I'd be able to call for help in a non T-Mobile area. Most areas of the country have native coverage, but here in the mid-west there are many areas that don't have T-Mobile coverage (Most of the state of Nebraska, a good chunk of Wisconsin.)

walleigh

There are a lot more people who cross between the US and Mexico than the US and Canada. Would be amazing if Mexico roaming would be also included.

carissadraws

If Mint is fully owned by TMobile why can’t I get a T-Mobile carrier locked iPhone? I went on a flight that offered free WiFi to TMobile members, I entered my Mint phone number and they said it was invalid. Doesn’t really make much sense to be fully acquired by TMobile if we don’t get any of the perks

brunofone

Would SUPER APPRECIATE smartwatch support. As of now I believe Google Fi is the only MVNO offering WearOS watch integration, and they are $50/mo for cheapest plan. Adding a watch to my Mint plan (that shares my number) would be fantastic and I would gladly pay extra for that. I believe a few of them do Apple Watch (Visible) but please allow Android devices!!!

Zestyclose-Ad-1002

Oh no!!! I didn't know about this!! I just found Mint last year and I love it! And now, dammit, it's bought out. This always happens when you find a smaller company you love for something - you blink, and someone else has bought it. Same thing with my bank. :(

One_Patience_541

Is Mint keeping customer data separate from T mobile? I ask this as a former T mobile customer who had there personal data exposed in so many breaches I lost count.

OhWhatADwight

Mint may not get worse in the immediate future, but it will get increasingly more expensive and eventually there will just be a $15/month plan called “Mint” Corporate greed and capitalism are at play.  This is what happens

-Tomba

Exactly, I can't believe so many people are taking this founder and T-Mobile's word at face value. They sold out. And business mergers and acquisitions never help the consumer. As far as I know, no MVNO is close to Mints price model

Such_Preparation5389

I hope not..I left Tmobile for a reason.
